Looking at Retty
"I say little fellow where did you come from. I think your a little young to be buying drink for this man." Looking to the others for an explination as to why they have brought a child on this adventure.

Mandower Steel Strong |
Mandower will stand right by the entrance and block people from entering or exiting, so that if the door opens, it will push into his back. I'm assuming the door opens into the bar and not out.
Aeilín Ardghail |
Mandower will stand right by the entrance and block people from entering or exiting...
Wait, what?
Retty Wiggum |
Retty turns to Thoril and very politely responds, "Oh, I'm no child, though sometimes it can be advantageous to be perceived as one, my folk just don't grow as large as some of the more common dignified races."
The mutters under his breath,
"Though I may be giving you too much credit as "dignified", you big oaf. Honestly, my people are fairly common in most every human settlement, but the way some people consistently overlook us I sometimes feel like I'm back with my grandparents in old Cheliax."
all while smiling completely innocently.
DM Beckett |
I think it may be the spaces around the = in the first spoiler code?
Raman Sanjihartna |
I’d suspect the spaces around the “=“ to be the culprit, as well.
Also, I’m mostly waiting to see Raman/Retty’s diplomatic results with the book-guy before doing much else.
Still waiting for the man's reply, Raman gives Retty a sympathetic glance.
DM Beckett |
"Very well, I accept. As you've no doubt heard, my name is Yargos. Yargos Gill. I've been involved with the Pathfinder Society for years, but despite your friend Janira's best efforts, I'd rather work on my own time. I've already helped to save the world, twice, actually", he says, not in pride, but more matter of factly, "and well, I'm a simple man."
You are interrupted for a moment as a waitress brings you drinks, and as you ask to speak with Heryn Gale, the waitress says that that is her, but she will need to wait until she can take a break before discussing any sort of business, ad asks you to wait a few more minutes.
The two continue one with what you see is a sort of friendly grudge, the Halfling Pathfinder mentor trying to suggest reason for the old man to join officially, and jokingly mocking him while he continues to decline, even as the discussion moves to other things. All the while, both seem genuinely interested on hearing your opinions, and you get the impression the Janira is a good natured individual with an honest love of learning and exploration, but also for helping to mold other younger Pathfinders while Yargos is both very intelligent and well read, and gives some rather unique insights into the Pathfinder Society on all levels.
Finally, after delivering a tray of mugs and food to a last table, Heryn approaches you at the bar. "Alright, Pathfinders, I got a few minutes. What is it you needed? I only got a few, so lets make this quick."
Retty Wiggum |
Retty turns away from studying Yargos's book and smiles excitedly to Ms. Gale, "We were sent here by VC Dreng to pick up a package he said you had for him."
Then he whispers very discreetly to her, "He said it was some kind of wine, but we'll keep that to ourselves. It must be a very large amount to send all of us to pick it up, and I'm guessing he wouldn't want the whole tavern to know the extent of his.. umm.. fondness for the fruit if you will."
Mandower Steel Strong |
Mandower wants to answer to take a nap when asks what it is he needed, but refrains and keeps quiet, and he is confident this mission will be a piece of cake anyway and that he will have his nap soon.
Raman Sanjihartna |
Raman once again gives his customary, crisp Vudrani greeting to the Wisp's proprietess. "It is an pleasure meeting a woman who has the opportunity to run a business so paramount to our Society's history. A pleasure, indeed!"
He seems eager to be on the errand, but still can't seem to help himself from gawking at every new detail of the place.
Aeilín Ardghail |
Feeling that the Retty and Raman have things well in hand, Aeilín waits for Heryn to deliver the item in question.
DM Beckett |
"Oh, you should have said so earlier." not that you had the chance. "That's no issue at all. Just head down stairs and grab it. Oh, and watch your step near the break room down there. We've been meaning to get that fixed, but just never got around to it."
The basement of the Wounded Wisp is a stonework affair, having had its foundation strengthened following a significant donation by a Society member only to suffer damage during the quake of 4698.
A set of wooden stairs descends from the main floor into this tightly packed storeroom. Barrels, boxes, and crates of assorted foodstuffs and drink garnishes are pushed against the walls or under the stairs.
New map is up.
Just beyond that is the break room, normally reserve only for staff of the Wounded Wisp, and then just beyond that, is the wine cellar.
To get to the break room, however, you need to transverse a single plank that's been set to act as a sort of stairway. It doesn't look particularly strong, and it's doubtful that it would hold anything but a young woman or possibly a smaller Humanoid.
Retty Wiggum |
Retty takes the lead down the stairs to traverse the plank, looking around for anything particularly rickety or dangerous.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
"Guys, this board looks a little unstable, let me see if I can shore it up a bit"
Disable: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Retty can NOT find anything to fix the plank, but climbs down carefully anyway.
"Should be ok if we climb down one at a time
DM, can I just take 10 here? If so I want to be just 1 down from the steps on the top side
Raman Sanjihartna |
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Raman chit-chats with their hostess until she departs and he looks like he's enjoying every bit of this very mundane "assignment". At the rickety bridge, he looks across uncertainly at Retty, "Should we take any precautions as we traverse the little bridge?"
I see you mentioned taking 10, but on what? do we need to roll something to successfully get across the plank?
Mandower Steel Strong |
perception: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (9) = 12 no he doesn't see it, but Retty points it out and he can climb it easily. with a take 10. Edit Actually a take 10 for Mandower will be a 9 with armor check penalties included, but he has a spider silk rope which he can tie onto something if that gives him any bonus at all.

sorry, it's a DC to Climb down using the "trap" plank, or you can also use Acrobatics to go down the side. I mistakenly placed it into the spoiler. Ben very busy these last few days. :(

Getting down to the level below is not difficult, just requiring you to walk down cautiously one at a time. This chamber is where the Wounded Wisp keeps its supply of specialty wines and ales for important
occasions. Sitting there on the shelf is a single bottle of the particular vintage you seek, but as you grab it, sliding it out of the small slot, it suddenly stops, as if caught on something. Then suddenly, the shelf itself begins to slide back, then to the side, revealing a short stone tunnel that leads into the hidden room.
A sturdy silver chain jutting from the ceiling ends in a glowing orb that radiates yellow light across the rectangular room. A simple desk of polished wood, stacked with documents and scattered notes, shelters a pair of wooden chests against the south wall. A series of cracks along the eastern and western walls form makeshift entrances into exposed caverns.
At the far end of this new chamber, is a single desk. The desk contains various notes and leads penned by Selmius with Adolphus’s later annotations. See the development section below for further details. The only light source in this room is a plain rock that bears a continual flame spell and hangs from a chain. The illumination is enough to brighten the room but leaves the connecting tunnels dark.

I move up to the spiders in melee during my surprise round.
Aeilín Ardghail |
Sorry; just getting to check this over the weekend. @Mando: I think you have to make the perception check to see them/gain surprise round.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 La la la... nothing here...
Leb Unin |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Noticing the spiders, Leb approaches them, stopping 20 feet away. He lobs a bomb at one of the spiders.
bomb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
fire damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 4 = 13 5 splash, Reflex DC 14 for 1/2
scatter: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Mandower Steel Strong |
okay then perception: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (8) = 11 to see the spiders.
Aeilín Ardghail |
Aeilín stops short as Leb hurls a firebomb into the mass of arachnids.
DM Beckett |
Yes, when I put something in a spoiler with a DC, only those that make the check should be reading it.
Aeilin: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Leb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Mahd: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Refl 2 DC 14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 <fails>
Mandower Steel Strong |
sorry about that, I get ahead of myself. I'm use to reading everything on the forums, and forgot this was part of a game where you aren't suppose to click on spoilers until you make the check, and I'm usually pretty good about not clicking on the spoilers, but I'm use to reading forum threads on stuff like runescape, kingdom of loathing and spoiler tags are used to condense things, or to hide interesting things that people rather see for themselves. I try not to click on the spoiler tags before making the checks, just have that habit of reading everything I see from having visited so many other sites. sorry about that.
anyway I double move to the position I'm in now.
DM Beckett |
No worries. I've done it before, myself.
Retty Wiggum |
Could someone move me 1n of spider 1?
Attack with rapier vs flat footed AcC (I assume)
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 to hit for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sneak attack for additional 1d6 ⇒ 1 damage.
Mahd Gajol |
At seeing the door open mahd says
"what the. Great some sort of secret door this man must really love his wine."
Upon realizing that there is no wine in the secret he says
"Shit there's no wine in this room we've been dooped. Slippery little drunk, I hate being lied to."
After Leb tosses his bottle Mahd notices the spiders and says
"Well for this he could have called the exterminators, but at least I get to fight something"
Mahd attacks the spider Leb weakened
Starknife: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Aeilín Ardghail |
Movements updated on map.
Seeing no opening to attack, Aeilín takes a defensive position at the entrance to the secret room.
Total Defense | +4 AC
DM Beckett |
Sorry, work is pretty crazy right now.
As Mandower and Aeilin begin o move into the room, Retty and Mahd spring into action, inflicting some major damage on the closest overgrown arachnid, and severing a few of it's many legs, but not enough to destroy it.
Springing back on what legs it has remaining it attempts to bite Retty, while the other one begins climbing up the wall, sticking just above the other inside the cave and bites at Mahd.
Attack Retty (AC 17): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 <miss>
Attack Mahd (AC 16): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 <Hit>

Leb lobs a bomb between Mahd and Retty, aiming it for the back side of the creatures.
Aiming for the grid intersection the spiders share on the back side.
Attack vs. AC 5: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 4 = 18 5 fire damage

”Rally, my friends! And fight!” the Vudrani man shouts as he circles the combat, ”Send them skittering back into the darkness!”

Giant Spider 2 (-7)
Also, just wanted to point out, if it wasn't clear, the two spiders are not in the same square, but rather one is on top of the other, walking on the ceiling of the cave. Nevermind, #1 is dead.
