You are woken from your slumber to a loud pounding at your door. Still half asleep, you ask who it is, and begin to stumble towards opening it. "It's, ah, . . . apprentice Cheele, <sir/Ma'am>. I, . . . You are wanted at Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch's office, urgently."
You can hear the fear in the novice's voice, and ask what time it is, but your question remains unanswered. You may recall such days, being new to the whole Society fad, (or my not), and conclude that, the message delivered, the novice has fled to continue his duties and avoid your irritation for being awoken.
And it was a good dream, too, as the final memories of your sleeping mind's wandering fade from memory.
Unsure just what that was about, you get dressed, and gather your gear, just in case it's a mission. Part of you begins to worry that it might be that fiasco for three days ago, that one you where sure no one knew about, coming back to bite you in the rear. But, calming yourself, everyone makes mistakes, right? And no reason to be worried, well, until there is a reason to worry. Right?
It takes you a few minutes, but once you are ready, you make your way to his office, only to find him, not there.
Please feel free to introduce your character, give a description, and RP a little.

Oloch is not a patient man ... er ... orc ... er ... priest. Anxious to get the briefing over with, he is dismayed to find the VC missing after so urgent a summons. Oloch shifts his weight a little, rocking slightly from side to side as he waits. Scars crisscross powerful muscles that bulge within the gaps of his heavy, spiked armor. His fingers tap out a soft tattoo on his drum, allowing the music to sooth his aching desire to grasp his greatsword and lay to ruin the world around him. Oloch is silent while his companions join him in the VC's office, his predatory gaze seeming to pass judgement on their martial equipment ... or lack there of. Death is coming ... and Oloch will be ready.
Celie |
This tall half-elf walks into the room. She looks around and notices no one is here yet. She calls to her fox to follower her into the room, while she sits down on a chair. Her fox is carrying what looks like a mixture in-between a troll and little girl that has been shrunk down into that of a doll. The fox jumps up onto her lap and falls asleep, holding the doll as a pillow. She moves her hand to her neck to fiddle with the necklace there, she touches each finger as she remembers each battle, until she reaches the last one and laughs at her foolish teammate who didn't want his finger back. She moves her backpack to use as a pillow and quickly falls asleep. Her black gown makes her look like a child wearing rags. Her hair is unkempt and falls across her sleeping face. She looks so innocent laying there in the chair. No one would expect the havoc she has caused.
Guilford Baldwin |
A tall, fussy looking man enters just after the others. He carries a fine looking haversack, but little weaponry and no armor. His clothes might have been fashionable enough... last year. He wears spectacles, which he fidgets with occasionally.
He nods at the others and offers a thin smile.
"Baldwin's the name. Student of the arcane, dontcha know? I forgot just how dreadful Sheila can be when summoning us agents."

Gentlemen and ladies, I'm glad you're here, we'll begin soon. You've yet to actually wake up. we at the Lodge decided to contact you via dream. Don't pinch yourself. I have an important briefing to disclose to you once the rest of you fall asleep.

Wait, are we in Korvosa? I think that's Sheila territory right? Just checking.
A stocky dwarf wanders in quietly with a dour expression on his face. His beard and hair are red, though the later is fast receding, leaving a shiny bald dome on top. He wears shiny mithril armor, of a distinctive Tien design, and carries a large ornate metal-studded club of similar origin. He takes up a practiced waiting position by the door, leaning his weapon against the wall nearby.
Heh, you forgot the -2 Penalty for changing genders! =)
Perception: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 2 = 23
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18
He looks at the each of the others speculatively for a moment, stopping to scowl slightly at Oloch, ignoring the obviously disguise Ramen {napping on the floor}, and seeming to spend more time pondering the small fox on Celie's lap then the woman herself.
When he speaks, its with an obvious Tien accent. "They call me Little Foot." He says gruffly, though his tone indicates he's not overly happy about the fact that that's what they call him, but seems resigned to it none-the-less as he offers no other name to use.
DM Beckett |
Keep in mind you get a bonus for bluffs that are believable and you want to believe. Shiela is, how can I put this non-offensively, . . . pretty notoriously highly mentally handicapped. :P
Seeing her show up nude, saying she thought it would be a wonderful idea to talk to you in your dream, just because, well, not too far fetched.

Dhastrach Orisialis |
Dhastrach, a dwarf most would mistake for a duergar, arrives to the room last, only to witness the awkward situation. "And herre I wass, hoping forr decent agents." he says with his low, raspy voice. His voice has been tormented just like the rest of his body. His skin is pitch black as a result of being burnt in molten lava, and riddled with scars covered by black tattoos. As a result, he's a peculiar dwarf, lacking hair and beard completely.
Sighing heavily he heads in to take a seat, opening his leather-binded journal. He eyes the other agents with distrust; especially the naked lady sleeping on the floor. He yawns and feels somewhat jittery, making sudden jumps at various noises.

In walks a man in his late 20's clad in fullplate. Above his armor a black robe and around his neck a silve amulet of the spiraling comet. He moves without hurry and his manners are as solemm as if he was at a funeral . Strapped to his back a silver hammer clanks when the man walks. Looking at the naked women on the floor Fredrik says.
Shouldn't we awake Mrs Heidmarch? ...Maybe give her some clothes... The cleric removes his cloak and covers the sleeping form of Sheila Heidmarch while trying not to stare at her nakedness.
Celie |
Celie lifts her head to look at the other new comers in the room. She yawns and distributes her sleeping fox. "I guess it's time to wake up." she sits up straight in her chair.
"My name is Celie of the numbers. Where i come from before i entered the pathfinders, is not important, i am here now to do good." she points to her fox. "This here is Fox, don't harm her or take away her doll and we won't have any problems. she looks over at the sleeping Ramen on the floor. "Let him sleep, for now."
Dhastrach Orisialis |
"That is not Mrs. Heidmarrch." Dhastrach says, frustrated. "That is a baffoon who thought it would be funny to botherr the rrest of uss with childish playss.
The dwarf shakes his head and turns to greet everyone else in the room with a slight nod. "I am Dhastrach Orisialis, a prriest of Nethyss, a scholarr of the Pathfinder Society. I trrust you are well-equipped forr whateverr we arre going to face. Though *yawn* the earrly hourr puzzless me."

Celie |
Fox jumps off of Celie's lap and scurries over to the sleeping Ramen. She sniffs at his fur and makes her way up to his head. Where she nips him in the ear and runs back to Celie, causing Ramen to wake up.
DM Beckett |
Just as the shenanigans come to a halt, the office door opens once more, and a fully clothed and serious looking Shiela Heidmarch steps inside.
"Pathfinders, the Society seeks your assistance in a matter most urgent. Recent engineering works uncovered a series of lost chambers beneath Janderhoff, but the company that began exploration and refurbishment of this space soon encountered trap-related difficulties. I quickly assembled a group of nearby agents to explore the lost corridors in exchange for a brief window of time in which to study anything found within. I have not heard back from those agents, and a contact has informed me that the team has been missing for two days, prompting the Mithral Mallet Mining Company to send a team of its own specialists to find out what became of them."
"Nobody has heard from either group since. It is rare that we have an opportunity to document the interior of a Sky Citadel, so your task is twofold. First, find out what happened to the first team of Pathfinders. Second, explore the recently reopened chambers, and recover or document any historical treasures found within. I doubt that representatives of the Mithral Mallet will be pleased to see additional Pathfinders, so contact Rukha Borthwick, the sister-in-law of one of our agents in the first team. She is a resourceful dwarf and likely knows what steps to take to get you into those ruins. Luck be yours, Pathfinders."
Old Fction Missions if anyone is interested, for fun.
Dwarves are not egalitarian, and it might be more irreverently said that they’re stuck in their ways. Show them that equality born of many voices can also be worthy of respect. As you negotiate passage through their Sky Citadel, ensure not only that the dwarves are impressed but also that your companions add their voices to the dialogue. Freedom cannot exist without everyone having a voice.
As Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch indicated, the original mission sent beneath Janderhoff was ill conceived. For that we are both apologetic and embarrassed, but I am also suspicious as to whether any of the original team’s allegiances were directed toward another organization. In particular I am concerned about one Shu-Lin Foo, a Tian mystic whose record shows that she is curiously the lone survivor of several recent missions. This cannot be coincidence, and I would like to know what inquiries to make in case a larger plot is afoot. Please confirm for us to which faction she belonged.
As you are aware, the Ruby Prince suffers greatly at the hands of a mysterious illness. Although efforts to find a cure progress, there are always items and elements we seek to hurry his recovery. Thus far, the dwarves of Janderhoff have been reticent to share with us any of the rare minerals mined beneath their great Sky Citadel, so desperation demands that you secure a sample of a rare raw material during your exploration. Precious metal is of no interest; I seek something truly rare.
All of this world is built of locks and keys, and long ago the dwarves forged a very special kind of each. We have only limited information about these special six-sided keys, and it’s reasonable to assume our enemies are just as ignorant. While you’re in Janderhoff, try to acquire a key or two, make some form of copy or sketch of it, and return it with none the wiser. I can only imagine the look of surprise on an enterprising upstart’s face when he sees us using dwarven locks!
Noble Servant,
A wayward child of a potential ally has become swept up in the riddle you seek to solve. Marcetta Larch-Bough, the daughter of a Varisian noble, was with the original mission you seek. Find her, so we may be the first to tell her mother the good news. If she has fallen, bring her signet ring so that her family may grieve their loss. The ring is shaped after her name, in the form of a larch branch.
Sorry, was still editing things.

"Trrap-rrelated..." Dhastrach sighs with his unerring voice. "Skycitadel... unforrtunately my knowledge of old dwarrven constrructions arre dated, so I can't say anything with confidence." He then turns to Sheila Heidmarch, making notes in his journal.
"So, I'm guessing what you can tell about thiss assignment, Rukha can tell more? If that iss not the case, please detail the following: Firrst, what werre the engineerring worrks, that uncoverred the chamberrss? Second, werre these worrks perrforrmed by the very same Mithrral Mallet Mining Company? Thirrd, what can you tell us about the Mithrral Mallet Mining Company? Fourrth, wherre is Rukha Borthwick?" Dhastrach is ready to write everything down.
Celie |
Celie looks at Fox and they have a quick conversation.
Celie "What do you think Fox?"
Fox "I think he is cute."
Celie "what..No, not about the loud mouth. What do you think about the mission?"
Fox "There might be shinnies."
Celie "What would you do with a shiny?"
Fox "I don't know, but you always like them."
Celie "Well, someone has to keep you fed."
Fox "I don't eat that much... Will there be cake?"
Celie "I highly doubt there will be cake."
Fox "But cake is delicious. Why wouldn't there be cake?"
Celie "The cake is a lie Fox, it is not good for your health."
Fox "I don't care, i like it. Will you ask if there will be cake?"
Celie "Alright, but don't get upset if there is no cake."
Celie looks up at the Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch and nods in acceptance of the mission. "This sounds like an interesting job. I just have one important question. Will there be cake?"

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Little Foot remains silent at first, listening to what others are asking and how Sheila is answering.
Eventually, he asks in a low gruff voice. "Ran into a dwarf once, after that business in the Aspodell Mountains, who mentioned these ruins beneath Janderhoff. He said they were far too dangerous and were closed off because of it."
He snorts slightly, before adding. "For a dwarf to call a place dangerous, it has to be truly so. Any idea why they shut it down?"

A bar fight would be entertaining at least
Ramen |
Yeah. groggily wiping sleep from his eyes, according to what frederik found, a half elven pathfinder was in a bar fight at a local brewery. maybe we can ask around about him there? We have to find out about the first team that was sent in. That information and contacting this Rukha woman should help us do that, before we go into the tunnels ourselves.
Celie |
Celie nodded her head and pointed to Ramen. "Yeah, he has a good point this time. We should ask around the bars and see if we can gather some information." she smiled and patted Fox on the head. "And while we're at it, we can have a few drinks."
Fox looked up at Celie.
Fox "Do you remember what happened the last time you had a few drinks?"
Celie "Hush now, it all worked out in the end. And no one died."
Fox "Yeah, but it was close. those poor guards had to explain why they were naked and tied up like that."
Celie "Well, they started it. How was I to know that they were the Night Watch?"
Fox "Maybe when they said, Night Watch, stop what you're doing."
Celie "Will, next time those two will think twice before confronting a witch. I did learn from Granny Weatherwax for your information."
Fox "Just be less..." Fox pauses for a few moments to think of the right word. "Destructive this time."
Celie "I'll try."
Celie looks around, "Guess I'll try to get some more information.

DM Beckett |
You are in Varisia I believe (it doesn't really say for certain), and need to travel there.
DM Beckett |
Sorry, I've been on the road all day, and I just had a massive post eaten.
Sheila raises a hand, offering what answer she has, "The Mithral Mallet Mining Company is a Dwarven group, both tasked with securing, exploring, and excavating the tunnels and areas around Janderhoof. They have been both allies and rivals to our own agents in the past. They are now in charge of the site we seek to get into, but had been working with our agents up until they failed to return. They sent their own tea,, which likewise has failed to return." Stopping for a moment to arrange her thoughts, "We need as many allies as we can. The Pathfinder Society has a, well, lets face fact, a terrible reputation, and one we have earned for ourselves. If you can, yes, rescue the Dwarven company. Oh, and the other Pathfinders too. But your first priority is to get down there and find out what you can about what's been lost, and report back."
"Other than that, you will really need to peak with our contact near the site. Rukha is aware that agents are coming, and knows to expect someone. If there is nothing else. . ."
She gives you about an hour to make any last minute preparations before having some arcanists within the Society send you to Janderhoof, walking the roads of magic. For those of you unaccustomed to teleportation magics, the sensation is, unwelcoming. Similar to being picked up and hurled across a room, though instead of a hard landing on that far wall and tumbling to the ground, you simple take a step to brace yourself and find you have simply appeared somewhere completely different.
Finding Rukha Borthwick is not difficult, as after 80 years spent as a civil engineer specializing in the trenches and pipes that channel water around and away from Janderhoff, the brunette dwarf has developed a modest amount of status. She ushers you into her office without delay and you find her willingly answers any questions that she can.
In regards to the other Pathfinders:
"My brother-in-law Sandricaan Molnworret led tha group, and he is a mage of some talent. I know that he brought three others with him — a halflin', a human, and a half-elf."
"Sandricaan mentioned that the Tian woman has a reputation as a jinx, having been the sole survivor of several previous missions. Ya can imagine we where none to keen on havin' her about if that where the case, uh. Don't get me wrong, Sandricaan’s no saint either, especially after his stint with the Aspis Consortium. Still, family is family, and I would rather see my sister’s husband safely out of there.”
As to how the tunnels where discovered:
"Hones'ly, it was luck. Though looking at it now, that might 'ave been bad luck. We where doin' some work in another tunnel, and someone hit what they thought was a weak spot in the wall, as impossible as that seems. Well, that's what we thought, but turns out it opened not into a pocket in the stone, but was an ancient tunnel of it's own."
"All I know is that they appear to predate the Rendin', which means they are at least 800 years old. They might be even older than that. That's why we hired yur Pathfinder buddies to take a look. When they didn't come back, we sent our own, and now that they have not come back, well, the Mithral Mallet has decided to close the area off. I take you to meet with the Mithral Mallet toughs that guard the entrance
to the tunnels you want, but I will go no farther, an' I have no intention of loosin' my job on your account, if you catch my meanin'.”
Any other questions for her?
Celie |
Celie smiles "As lon as there is als, I am...." Fox nipped at Celies fingers. "owe, little devil."
Fox "Don't forget about the cake."
Celie "Yeah, Yeah."
Celie "And cake, were good to go. Celie patted Fox on the head.
I'm just wondering, who all is reading the Witch talk posts?
Theo Rosevale |
GM: Can I assume we leave my animal companion behind?
I'm ok with that, was trying to figure out how to not get it to treat Celie's fox like a possible snack =)
GM: Can we assume that, for the remainder of this scenario we will be considered 'Underground'? (For favored terrain reasons)
Celie: how does one define 'witch talk'? Is it like a one-sided conversation, where Celie is the only one we understand? Or is it both sides 'yippin' in fox-like fashion at each other? Or something else entirely?
Little Foot does not seem at all pleased with the magical mode of transportation, much preferring to walk.
When they meat up with Rukha, he remains quiet, though does show a moment of interest when she mentions one of the Pathfinders was a Tien woman, as well as the reveal that her brother-in-law was an Aspis member now apparently working for the Society.
Celie |
yeah, you'll see Celie making noises and the fox responding. The fox will stay with Celie, usually around her feet or in her bags. I'm not at the point where I can leave my familiar behind and use spells.
Dhastrach Orisialis |
Dhastrach leaves to the shops after the venture-captain so permits, purchasing himself a new cloak of resistance +1. Gleaming, it's black as his burnt skin.
Dhastrach curses his tiredness under his breath, trying to keep himself awake even under duress. While not entirely accustomed to teleportation magic, he is not frightened by it. After the ordeal and finding Rukha, he again opens his leathered journal to take down notes.
"You speak of a Tian woman. Would thiss happen to be a cerrtain pathfinderr we've hearrd about summoning a brrawl at a local barr? What iss herr name? Arre we allowed to enter the chamberrss even if it's closed off?
Ramen |
great, an ex-aspis, a jinx, and a half-elf that likes bar fights. shouldn't be too hard to track them down...

your brother in law has an aspis checkered past? can you tell us more about that?
The human woman is a jinx, Sandricaan is a wizard. What do you know of the halfling and the half-elf?
