Please ONLY dot for now, (no RP or introductions), and please do so with the character you will be playing with, if you are able to.
DM Beckett |
Ok all. I just finished up my other game, so I hope to be able to focus on this and the other Game Day games more easily from this point on. Hopefully, Ill have a chance to do a proper pregame intro tonight or before the game kicks off. I'll also make sure that I have all the info for everything, and that Im ready to go.
Because there is a time limit involved, I do try to push pacing a little more than normal. Please do what you can to remain active and proactive. There is always the chance of running another scenario right after this as part of the Game Day, but I don't want this one to suffer to try to cram in more numbers. So, if people are interested, we can see. Also, please make any last minute corrections or changes now, and if anyone is thinking of purchases, now would be a good time to start making a possible list.
DM Beckett |
I've indicated below what all I'm missing from each of you. Please make an effort to get this finished by tomorrow, as we only have 2 days left before the game kicks off at this point.
1.) CariMac -> Pregen?
2.) CKelly -> Varuna Varghese: Swashtigator 3
3.) Daveak -> Thoril The Slayer: Bloodrage-Fighter 3
4.) Razfallo -> Valeros: Fighter 4
5.) Faire -> Faire & Leryn: Slayer 4
Varuna Varghese |
I would just like to point out that we have nobody that can heal at this point, not even a wand.

Game Officially Open
The sun beats down across this muddy plain, a scant five miles from the walls of Absalom. Fellow Pathfinders gather on all sides, including well-traveled field agents and more permanent staff from the Grand Lodge itself. In the center of the field stands a wooden platform, raised some ten feet off the ground. The excited chatter drowns out the buzz of summer insects as the gathered adventurers speculate on what’s to come.
Gatherings of Pathfinders always bring great excitement and great anticipation. They also usually take place in more interesting places than a mildly muddy field outside of Absalom.
Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shane observes the Pathfinder agents arriving into the field and calls out "“Yes, Pathfinders. A lot of you, certainly. Lovely! Well, find your places in an orderly fashion. We’ve got some truly exciting news today and I can’t wait to get started!”
The group just happens to be standing near each other at this point, but has NOT actually been introduced or directly met at this point.
Having been summoned here some days ago with little or no indication as to what you, and hundred of other Pathfinders where to do, it seems, from overhearing speculations from fellow agents all around you, that no one else hear really has an idea why so many Pathfinder Agents have been gathered here. Looking around, you see all sorts of characters as well, from mages to warriors to priests to others you can not easily identify. From the newest recruits to those that have just recently survived their confirmation or just been field commissioned to some of the Society's greatest modern heroes.
You still have a little bit of time as Kreighton Shane and the other higher-ups finalize some last minute details, and the massive "conference" begins, allowing you to meet some of the Pathfinders standing around you (the party), trade war stories, and pass the time.
Additionally, each character can attempt the following checks as they ask around the crowd to try to find out if anyone else knows anything, overhear conversations, or look into rumors. Keep in mind, right now, this is information that only your character knows, so if you do roll high enough to make a check, you are expected to share that info with the party in character. Please DO NOT read any spoilers you yourself did not make, or have your character say something like "I repeat what was in the spoiler". A part of this part of the Special is to have different characters spread different rumors/facts/possibilities.

As the Pathfinders gather in the field, a small creature emerges from the shadows, seemingly from nowhere. Those not paying attention probably didn't even notice him, slinking around, trying to catch pieces of information to find out why they were gathered. The small wayang is just over 3 feet in height, and covered in an old grey cloak. His features are tough to make out, as his face always seems to be covered in shadow. After piecing together some rumors he heard, with some of his vast knowledge, Varuna is convinced that some ritual with the Sky Key is bound to happen here. Seeing several other trustworthy looking Society members, he shares some of his thoughts with them.
When he talks, it's in a deep gravely whisper, "Hmmmph, Society scholar and casters very busy lately. Away from the public, in the shadows. Right after some secret conflict here. Working on Sky Key I believe. Lots of Sky metal incoming. Lots of Evokers too, hmpph."
"Why meet here? Arcane circles, like conjuration ritual, all over. But different. Don't line up correctly, something new perhaps?"
"And the field, bloody history, Bloodwatered Meadow. Invading armies frequently defeated here. Most famous before even Absalom. Linnorm King Yardvun Skolson clashed with Thuvian warlord Attagesha. Both wanted city, but fought with each other instead. Hmpph, couldn't cooperate. Destroyed each other, got nowhere. Then Pathfinder excavations found ancient sites. Old Azlanti relics. Storied history, this spot."
"Don't know what all means though. Still putting it together. Maybe Sky Key complete?"
Haven't played any of those with this character.

DM Beckett |
Kreighton Shaine, the Pathfinder Society’s Master of Scrolls and de facto Master of Spells in the wake of Aram Zey’s untimely <kidding>, assassination, steps forward. A broad smile graces his youthful, elven features, and his golden hair shines in the sunlight.
“Welcome, my countless eager scholars! Today we are about to witness a wondrous and strange new chapter in the Pathfinder Society’s history. But first, please everyone take a moment of silence to remember our lost Master of Spells and my close friend, Aram Zey. While many of you found his manner abrasive, he fully believed in the Society’s goals of exploration and cooperation, and I know his loss will be deeply felt by us all.” After a moment, Kreighton Shaine continues.
"And now, before we begin, I'd also like to personally thank a few individual agents whose excellent work and dedication to the mission have made this all possible. Thoril, please step foreward." Kreighton Shaine continues calling off a list of names, adding in "please step foreward" after each. Once the small assortment of Pathfinders are gather near him, he once again addresses the crowd. "The agent's standing before you exemplify the core values and strengths of our organization, and where directly responsible for retrieving one of the components of the Sky Key. And for that, we would like to recognize them." Suddenly, catching everyone by surprise, the elf shouts, loudly and clearly that everyone, however many thousands of Pathfinders gathered in the field can hear him, Pathfinders. . . Attention!" "By the approval of the Ten, we hereby grant each of you a small boon of good will and as a symbol of your achievement and good standing." he goes down the line, reading off a list of accomplishments, before shaking each of the individual's hands. When he comes to the little kobald-like reptile with the huge axe, "Thoril, for retrieving a piece of the Sky Key, but also dispatching a known Aspis brute, allying with a tribe of Grippli, obtaining the friendship of the Golden Guardian, finding and returning the remains of one of our own, and also completing his life's work, we would like to honor you with this" in one hand he holds out a small satchel, stamped with the Glyph of the Open Road, and in the other offers a hand to shake, both to help make the ordeal more personal and partially for the crowd.
“You may have heard rumors about the Sky Key, an artifact coveted by the dwarves of Jormurdun. A few of you even managed to recover pieces of it. But—and this is the important part—the Sky Key is no dwarven relic. The dwarves found this artifact in one of Numeria’s many wrecks and struggled to master its abilities just as we have spent the past several months doing. But now… now we have this assembled... wonder.”
The Master of Scrolls pulls back a canvas tarp, revealing… a bed of withered roses.
“The Key itself is secure in a small chamber we’ve constructed below this field, and it is connected to the surface here by a series of adamantine rods and mithral cables.” He taps a dark metal shaft beside him. “This formerly-award-winning bed of roses, however, we have left sitting here for two weeks without sun or water.”
His hands weave an arcane pattern, and arcs of lightning leap from his fingertips to the rod. A chest-shaking hum rises from somewhere below, and a bubble of green light enfolds the roses, revealing a flower bed of vibrant reds, purples, and yellows where only withered brown stood moments before.
“This is the power of the Sky Key: It creates a window into the past. No longer will the Society have to pick at the precious few scraps history leaves behind. Instead we can watch the greatest moments of Golarion’s history unfold before our eyes! We can watch the Eventongue Rebellion shatter Taldor into a dozen smaller states. We can witness Irrisen before the coming of Baba Yaga, or study the godcallers of Sarkoris before the Worldwound. We can witness the Starstone plunge Golarion into an age of endless night, or watch Aroden himself pull Kortos from the sea in its wake. Anything we want, we can study. And all it requires is lightning!"
“Unfortunately, we must content ourselves with study. While our modern forms can enter these temporal bubbles unaffected—” he reaches a hand into the shimmering energy and plucks a rose. Pulling it from the iridescent field, the flower ages and crumbles into dust, “—anything removed collapses under the weight of time itself. We can witness anything we like, but any treasures of history, or great figures, belong to their own age, beyond our reach.”
“It takes the magic of one accomplished wizard to reach back thirteen days. How far, then, do you imagine twenty will reach? A hundred?” Several other teams across the field begin assembling adamantine rods. “Our math says: The Age of Serpents, some tens of thousand years before the present. And that is where all of you come in. If this works—and it will, mind you—then we estimate we’ll have four to five hours to see what Kortos looked like at the dawn of the Azlanti Empire, when our earliest ancestors still warred with the serpentfolk empire of old. We need all the eyes and ears the Society can muster to take notes and make observations. Oh, and keep those eyes and ears from getting killed. Anything in the bubble can’t get out, but these roses... they still have thorns.”
He nods, and Pathfinders across the field begin casting spells, directing arcs of lightning into the waiting sky metal rods. Something deep below the earth thrums, and across the field a massive bubble takes shape, expanding to reveal a cube of earth and stone hundreds of feet to a side, as if sliced from the land and laid out in celebration. Low, stone buildings peek over from the very top, while networks of caves riddle the lowest level. Ophidian faces peer out, then retreat back into the darkness.
“It seems the ground level was a bit higher before the Starstone drove it into the sea,” Shaine observes. “Regardless. We have three-hundred and seven minutes remaining. Let’s make the most of it!”
CariMac |
Kyra stands in shock as the Society decides to play with the very fabric of time. How is this going to end well? Not very I think.
She moves closer to the others she has been speaking with. "As fascinating as this is, playing with the fabric of time cannot end well. I'll do as Master Shaine has asked and observe history. May the Dawnflower protect us all during this time."
Varuna Varghese |
Varuna is torn over the actions he just witnessed. His endless curiosity races at the thought of seeing history unfold before his eyes. But he also fears the repercussion of such powerful magic at play. "Hmmph, no choice it seems. Hope we return from shadows of the past. Feel uneasy, yet excited. Anxious."

PART 2: The Temple District of Sessegishoss!
The map has been updated, (specifically slide 2 & 3). Slide one will remain the current combat map.
Just as two realms collide, margining into one, Shaine's last words ring in your ears "“Regardless. We have three-hundred and seven minutes remaining. Let’s make the most of it!” All around you various Pathfinders form small groups with the folks nearest them, and Shaine summons many of the newly initiated agents yet to pass their Confirmation, servants, and other scholars working for the Society to act as go-between, going from group to group to deliver notes, make observations, and basically do anything but help you out in any mechanical sense.
The Temple Plaza above and the Zoological Gardens below the tunnels to which are exposed thanks to the different ground levels between the Age of Serpents and the present. The Temple Plaza lies nearly 400 feet above Kortos’s current ground level.
I also need to warn everyone that this one is partially very character driven, and also very fast paced.
With this large ancient city before you, you can see how it looked so many thousands of yours ago, possibly even BEFORE the coming of Earthfall. The architecture itself is highly reminiscent of some of the ancient works you might have seen in the Mwangi area, where odd stone temples and towers seem to spring out of the ground or from the midst of the jungle. One thing you do notice nearly immediately is that as far as you can see, every single surface, every wall, every path has intricately designs carved into nearly every single inch of it's surface, all of it showing a high reverence for snake, but also serpent-like patterns such as spirals.
A large group of Pathfinder begin to cast spells, drink potions, or otherwise read off scrolls before taking to the air to rush into the temple area at the far side of the district, hoping to make it up the stairs to the entry way quickly, though you can tell from their caliber and gear that they are likely all much, much more experienced agents than yourself. On the other hand, you see a cave entrance leading down to what seems to be a zoological garden area, somewhat displaced due to the magic that is merging timelines to allow somewhat easy and unrestricted access. The choice is yours, and you don't have much time. Where to begin?
Varuna Varghese |
"Hmmph, others exploring temple. We should go to cave. Cover more areas for research, hmpph." Varuna pulls out some paper and a quill from his sack and starts jotting down notes about what he sees and drawing some of the carvings.
Pregen/Zadim |
"Let's go to the cave. As Kyra said the Dawnflower would protect us"
Zadim joins Valeros.
DM Beckett |
Travelling through the caves towards the Zoological Garden is tedious at best. Unlike most caves, this one's path is smooth, and along the way you find multiple large scales, each around the size of a large coin. The way is completely dark, and also oddly silent. The walls also seem to be covered in some sort of odd, organic slime, reeking of a strange unpleasant scent.
It takes you 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 minutes to get down closer to the area you seek, but just before leaving the cave system, just at the edge of your light, and likely reacting to it, you hear a sudden movement of something awaking.
At first you see nothing, only hear an odd creeping from somewhere off before you. There is sucking noise, but it is isn't until you spot what appears to be a tiny bit of sand falling that you look up, just in time, for the beast is coming at you, and it's hungry!
Natura camo causes the creature to appear very similar to a part of the cave ceiling itself, this dark blue creature has a conical body covered in angry red eyes and numerous tentacles, two of which are longer than the rest.

And with Valeros's mighty swing, the creature goes down, wailing a strange, somewhat insectoid scream as it's last breath. This allows you to fully make your way down, and begin to set about exploring it more.
Please take a little time to heal up as well.
The lowest level of the temple complex consists of sprawling networks of caverns and artificial tunnels used as animal pens, stables, cave gardens, and training facilities for guards beasts, and draft dinosaurs, and what seems to be holy animals to some strange religion.
The stink of animal scat and rotting meat fills this massive cavern. Shelves, passageways, and fixtures have been carved into the wall by careful hands, each stylized to resemble a serpent’s head or body. Unlike the rest of the area thus far, this section is lit, with multiple skulls hanging upside-down from chains attached directly to the walls every few feet. Some sort of thick greenish-brown paste burns within, similar to a candle.
Just a head's up, this is going to be very fast paced, and combat heavy.
As you turn the corner into a long hallway with many small pens containing a variety of beasts lining both sides, you spot what seems to be a patrol. A large reptilian beast with a massive fin on it's back leads the way for two reptilian humanoid creatures. Lizardfolk!
It's strange, as even rudimentary knowledge of the Lizardfolk holds that they are tribal and shamanists, and tend to avoid living in areas without lush swamps and jungles, which they favor. Both Lizardfolk carry only heavy wooden shields, reinforced with large scales, but each also has a Morningstar hanging from their belt, three javelins on their backs, and wear only a crude loincloth. The oversized, finned iguana has nothing.
Both groups seem to spot each other at about the same time, leaving neither group surprised, or at least more surprised than the other. (I'm going to say that Valros has 4 rounds of Enlarge Person remaining, (assuming it's a 1 Min spell), and Kyra's Bless is still up.)

Quickest to react, the Dinosaur, a breed called a "dimetrodon" by smartypant guys like Varuna, twitches in anticipation, then lets out a loud roar. The two Lizardfolk seem to have a blank expression on their faces, albeit reptilian, and you are not entirely sure if they show abroad range of emotions. As the beast growls, it breaks free, rather easily, of the loosely held leash that the Lizardfolk had been using to direct it and moves closer towards you.
