I don't like Goblins, but I don't fancy attacked when unprovoked. I say leave the critters to themselves. Besides we don't know anything could be a small wandering group, as well as a huge camp nearby. Bandits will start smelling rot at sunrise tomorrow, I don't want them to see us coming.

He is trying to lead I think, but he is willing to listen. I don't know for sure, but I think that makes for a better leader, at least in my eyes.

The Green Man chuckles to himself.
I guess I'll just have to use my axe on anybody accusing him of being a weak leader, that should quiet any slanderous tongues.

Rubbing his nose thoughtfully the musing continues.
I'm supposed to be good at living in the wilds, but I am being upstaged here to be sure.

You move on... following around the perimeter of the woods. The treeline recedes like you have rounded the bend into the concave portion of a "one-third crescent moon" shape. The land to your left grows more lush the further south you go... rolling hills and greener grass... After traveling another six or seven hours you reach the top of a small hillock... Up in the distance crossing your path, you see a river that leads into the woods. ... maybe a little more than a mile away.
Less than an hour til dusk.

Ta'de-win:
It appears some of the tracks veer into the woods at this point ... some go ahead .. sun will go down soon survival check for more info if desired

Rogar checks the tracks but feels pretty confused about them... it seems to him they go back the way they came...

And with a wisdom of 7 what were you expecting? :D

Ta'de-win examines the tracks for a moment. "If I recall it was another hour's travel to the bandit camp, correct? If so, it might be best to travel the last bit by foot. If someone would lead my horse as well, I will scout ahead for the bandit's den. Under cover of night, we may quite well have an advantage."

Furiel is glad of the excuse to surprisingly gracefully dismount and brings the leads to Bregor. Ride1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 "I don't know if we made good time or not. We could be close. Green man, I would appreciate you leading my horse too. I can see in dim light well." Furiel picks up a couple of stones as he walks.

Norton thinks at Budgie's words and the other information he got.
"People, bear with me a moment, if you please. I had the impression the trip would last longer. Budgie could have got confused, but that would be strange, a night trip mistaken for a day and night one?"
"Chance are he lied to us, or the lot traveled slow, I bet on the second. Makes sense, a full day and night trip, and you'll get at Oleg's exhausted. They were no soldiers, they may have slacked on the march and got rested."
Norton pauses a second.
"That means Happs' lot won't be expected before dawn. We don't have to rush. I say: let's find a place where to hide, and stack the horses. Lady de'win can scout ahead, if at night, as I suppose, camp go deserted, we can seize it quickly and set up a trap for the incomers tomorrow morning. We must not forget we had a long day, while the scum is probably well rested."

Male Human (Ulfen) Skald Lvl 1 HP 10/10 | AC:16 | T:14 | FF:13 | CMB: +5 | CMD:15 | Fort:+2| Ref:+4 | Will:+1| Init:+2 | Perc: +3 | Speed 30 | Raging song 6/6 |

"Not a bad little idea."
The Green Man walks up to Norton and puts one massive hand his shoulder.
"I am with you on this."

Downtime Gnome Sorceror (draconic) 5

"I am not trying to be difficult, but imagine throwing a full quiver of arrows away. That is how I feel as a spellcaster now. I would prefer to push on one hour and see if we can engage them. My gnome sight is conducive to dim light operations. I would rather use the coming night to rest and recover spells. I have picked up stones to turn into light sources for those who cannot see well in the dark. If they are expecting visitors tommorrow morning, all the better to show up at night." Furiel casts a light spell on one of the stones to show the group.

Furiel walks to Norton "I realize we have a final voice and it is yours. I just want you to have all the information and perspectives you need to make it the best. I also do not know if other spellcasters depleted their resources earlier."

Male Human (taldan) Fighter (Aldori Swordlord) 03

Rogar smiles at furiel and moves closer to him and Norton:"What was that about a "final voice" my friend? You misunderstand: everyone has a vote here and we'll do as the majority sees fit. I, for example, understand your plight... night time will inconvenience us much more than them simply because they will have fire and torches while we will not be able to use them if we don't want to be discovered. Better to press on, on foot perhaps, and try to catch their sentries when they go out on patrol"

Male hp: 45/45; AC:17/14-ff16/14-tch10; F+7, R+4, W+5; Initiative 0, Perception +5

Norton looks at the gnome who clearly thinks him to be the leader.
"Another rusher, I hope I can bring this one and Rogar to milder thoughts before they echo one other in a frenzy."
"Mr. Furiel, as a group we don't have a final voice, and mine is not heavier than others."
"I concur, we must know our strength. I'm glad to hear that you can see true in dim light, and I have heard people like our good Green are good nighters to, but that makes only two out of six."

"You will agree we need to know our enemies strength too. I'm not going to rush in unknown terrain, against unknown foes. Some of us can scout ahead, your senses could be of help in that, gather information, and get back, unseen, to the others. If the place is to easy to defend we might have to lure them out, or wait them to leave and then seize the place. If we can turn the place in a trap, we can lock them in and have all at our mercy in one blow. We need intelligence."

Male Human (taldan) Fighter (Aldori Swordlord) 03

Rogar glances at Norton:"I don't know about rushing.... these are just another bunch of mangy scavengers... surely we won't need too complex a plan to deal with them, their camerades were easy enough to deal with after all. But I can agree with a little intelligence gathering only if I could accompany ms Ta'de-Win, I won't let her risk for us all alone!"

The Green Man chuckles and directs a grin at Rogar.
"As long as you think you can keep up with her, but it is her choice you know. Both in going and in taking you or not, so let's just ask her."
The Green Man then turns to Ta'de win.
"What say you? Do you want someone to watch your back? Do not look at me, I am willing, but lack your grace or speed. Alice or Rogar would do better."

Male Human (taldan) Fighter (Aldori Swordlord) 03

I can cast light to give light to those that can't see well at night, but we want to decide which of us should accompany our scout with no stealth skills. Rogar wants to go, but not only has no stealth skills but wants to bring some jingly armor along."

"I say the ladies go ahead and I'll back them up at a discrete distance. Rogar, Norton and Green can follow behind be at a distance and lead the horses. We'll all convene the moment the ladies see something. I do not like splitting everyone up."

"Lady Ta'De-Win cannot and she was going to go alone. I also suggested putting them in pockets. We shouldn't need them until dark. I can see well in dim light, which should persist for a while. I also suggest we keep together; splitting up can be dangerous. We can keep the armored and the horses well back."

The evergreens of the northern woods and the still bare branches of the southern deciduous meet here. The sun starts to drop behind the forest... a reddish sunset. Bugs .. gnat type things start to be a nuisance now that you've stopped moving.

Male hp: 45/45; AC:17/14-ff16/14-tch10; F+7, R+4, W+5; Initiative 0, Perception +5

Norton was keeping an eye on the conversation, he had no eagerness to run into the unknown. And starting a fight at this point would just be crazy, he had to ponder his words as best as he could.

"Still we don't know were the camp is and it could be so well hidden we don't see it until to late. Nor we have cover, chance are at dusk people is going to gush from the liar: is more like they will spot us than otherwise. I don't like to send Miss de-win alone but the six of us plus horses are going to be an hard-to-miss event. Let's find cover for the one of us that are not useful stealth-wise."

Downtime Gnome Sorceror (draconic) 5

"Sounds like a reasonable compromise. Miss De-Win ahead, Alice and I will follow at a discreet distance."

Male Human (taldan) Fighter (Aldori Swordlord) 03

Rogar seems rather offended by Furiel words:"I beg your pardon, gnome, but how can you tell I can't be stealthy if I want to? Did you know me before meeting me a few hours ago? And as for armor, I can move with it just fine, thank you"

Downtime Gnome Sorceror (draconic) 5

"Sorry Rogar, you just look like the deadly fighter type. I guess the four of us go."

"Let's not overthink the task at hand. I think it is time to go foward."
Stealth and Percpetion checks for when needed. Alice will of course let Ta'de-win lead ahead. This assumes all agree this is the course of action to take.

Rolls:

Stealth 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

If this is the way it must be, so be it.

"Remember, the secret is not to sneak upon the enemy as a viper in the grass. With the numbers we have, it would be difficult as it is. No, our stealth is as a hawk, looking upon our prey with distance between us, not knowing we even approach. We will not be getting close to the den tonight."

Not my best anology on that one. The plan is to lead ahead and rely mostly on my perception to detect enemies and maintain a good distance, rather than sneaking up too close. I don't plan on getting that close to the camp.

My rolls as well:

Survival 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 +2 for natural surroundings
Stealth 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Downtime Gnome Sorceror (draconic) 5

rolls:
PER/Stealth 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Just glad to be moving without a horse

Male Human (taldan) Fighter (Aldori Swordlord) 03

Seeing Alice and Furiel volunteer somehow manages to dull Rogar's enthusiasm for the task:No, gnome, I think I'll stay here now, 3 people are plenty for this task, and too many of us will probably cause them to discover us. Just remember I don't take kindly to insults and we'll be fine. Now go... and try not to be discovered"

Downtime Gnome Sorceror (draconic) 5

"No insult intended. I think we share a common desire as 'creatures of action' to get things done and come off as brash and impetuous. I am just eager to prove my worth."

Norton stays silent, while the comrades got into the argument.
"Not good, not good at all. I was worried those two could push each other into unplanned actions, but fighting one another? That most be dealt with."
Then he thinks at his past experiences.
"Why are the people, that speak with less concerns, the ones who are more concerned about the speaking of others? I wish master Godil was here, I'm not sure I can handle the situation if it gets south."

Norton, Rogar and Green remain with the horses at the edge of the woods as Alice, Ta'de-win and Furiel enter... It is a good sign of their ability when the seem to disappear noiselessly just a few meters in.

Alice Ta'de-win Furiel:

You enter the woods and go along the narrow path where some of the tracks veered. There is a gentle decline .. more so than along the treeline ..The bugs continue to harass you.. high survival roll extras Ta'de-win finds the amount of insects strange.. considering distance to water and having heard or seen no natural predators of insects..
The horse tracks that veered this direction are deeper.. steeper hill must be difficult when muddy for heavier horse and rider. The tracks look like they rejoin main treeline trail at base of hillock.

Norton Rogar Green:

Green's elderly draft horse looks into the woods and then at Green... less than a minute later her eyes close and her head droops. Norton notices a fat crow sitting on a branch facing them 40 feet away, barely visible in the partially cloud-eclipsed pale moonlight.

"Hmm, I do hope they will be successful, and by the looks of things, they will be indeed. Quite stealthy that bunch."

The Green Man gives both Rogar and Norton a slap on the back.
"Hope for the best, plan for the worst, is that not what you warriors say?
If nobody minds, I think I will follow my horse into the land of nod for a moment. If one of you get tired, wake me in a few and I will take over again."

The Green Man finds a comfortable tree to lean against and closes his eyes.

Male Human (taldan) Fighter (Aldori Swordlord) 03

Rogar shrugs at the Half Orc words and answers:"Let's hope they don't get into trouble, I would hate for them to steal all of the fun!" but as he speaks he feels his tone isn't as jolly as he meant it to be... maybe he's more worried than he expected.

Alice Ta'de-win Furiel:

Roughly 60 feet into the woods, on the edge of the trail, you see a couple "deer trails". As you inspect them, you hear off in the distance (somewhere to the west of you) "Kaw Kaw" .... a few seconds later, much closer, but the other direction you hear "Kaw ee-aw ee-aw ee-aw"... knowledge (nature) check

Norton Rogar Green:

You hear a faint "Kawing" of a crow that sounds like it is coming from deep in the woods. The crow near you lifts of the branch and responds "Kaw ee-aw ee-aw ee-aw" .. and then he starts circling above you.

Male Human (taldan) Fighter (Aldori Swordlord) 03

"Bad luck travels on black wings..." Rogar quotes an old Brevic saying.

Downtime Gnome Sorceror (draconic) 5

DM and Alice:
Furiel is following close to Alice leaving the druid to scout. With no nature skills, Furiel has no idea if these bird call are appropriate for the time or genuine, but he is highly cautious and will keep his eye on Lady Ta'De-Win the pointwoman for signals. He will signal his confusion to her with the universal sign (palms up shrug and shaking of the head if she is looking his way).

Put my actions in spoilers only as I do not even know if Ta'De-win can see them. I will let DM decide.

The Green Man opens an eye and looks skyward at the crow.
"Bad luck or no, it is robbing me of sleep. And it does not strike me as a particularly normal behaviour for an animal either."

"There may just be something to that saying of yours old man, and as someone once told me, one knife-edges worth of preparation is worth 10 000 arrows in the back."

Norton doesn't believe in sign and bad luck animals, but the wariness of Green put him at unease.

Alice Ta'de-win Furiel:

You continue west along a well worn deer trail... Alice is needed at times to lead through darker areas. (In evergreen dominant areas, not enough moonlight gets through for even Furiel to see well)
After roughly a quarter mile, you can spot a horizontal plane of dim light peeking through the trees... a clearing .. ground reflecting moonlight.. roll 1d20 .. I'll add bonus from your sheet You hear the first "caw" again .. much louder this time "Kaw .. Kaw" and behind you proportionately quieter "Keh-Kaw eyaw"

Norton Rogar Green:

The crow continues to circle .. you lose sight it at times against the black sky. After several minutes you hear the same caw from the woods.. "Kaw .. Kaw" ... the crow above you stops circling, and heads roughly the same direction your scouts went.. letting out a loud squawk "Keh-Kaw eyaw"
