Bregor Rowain |
"Why you..."
Unlike many times in the past, The Green Man is not yet ready to unleash his rage, which means he has to grit his teeth and fight the pain inflicted by the filthy claws raking over his chest.
Stepping into reach of the ugly giantkin, he uses his enhanced speed to hopefully good effect.

Sonechka Alkaeva |
Sonechka grimaces and shakes her head as the others rush in to fight the monsters. She waves a hand at the closest of the beasts, focusing her ire on it and willing it to succumb to her enchantments.
It looks to me like Sonya has line of sight to Green's target; I'll repost if you disagree, DM. Evil Eye hex vs saving throws on monster next to Green, DC 17 or -2 to saves for 8 rounds. Will save reduces this to 1 round.
Dolgrym Sharpaxe |
The dwarf casts mirror image and suddenly 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 extra images of the mage appear. He then steps toward the giant, and stops directly to the left of Bregor.
If you could move me on the map, that'd be awesome, DM.
DM Bloodgargler |
Green's attacks drop the thawn to the right of the doors.
Norton avoids the claws of his target and the pit hidden under the tarp on his way to hacking into the nearest on the left.
It counters with a wide swing, and a grazing slash.
The thawn behind hurls a cleaver toward Dolgrym, dispelling one of his illusory images.

Bregor Rowain |
The Green Man actually pauses for a moment, surprised at how easily he had dispatched his foe.
The surprise is more than enough to dispel the rage building up in his mind, and as he turns around, he looks at the remaining enemies with a clear head.
Heading around the pitfall, he joins Norton in assaulting the next Thrawn.
As he moves, he marvels at the feeling of being so very fast.

Sonechka points at the thawn on the left and send a wave of baleful energy at it, as well.
Evil Eye vs AC. -2 to AC for 8 rounds; DC 17 Will save reduces this to 1 round.
Bregor Rowain |
"Just the one left! Come, let us end this now!"
The Green Man pounds the haft of the earth breaker against the floor and gestures a challange against the remaining Thrawn.
Dolgrym Sharpaxe |
The dwarf holds his ground as well, waiting on the remaining giant to enter his range, threatening with his axe.
Sonechka Alkaeva |
Sonechka extends her hand, focusing her baleful energy on the last grotesque giant-kin.
Same deal, Evil Eye vs AC. Though she hasn't been too effective with it this fight.
Bregor Rowain |
The Green Man once more thumps the floor with his weapon, grinning and making a rude face against the Thrawn.
Part of him wonders at this sudden aggressive behaviour on his part.
Hmmm, I usually do not fight this clear headed...but when I do I don't tend to ENJOY it this much either...
DM Bloodgargler |
The injured thawn goes into a frenzy attacking the earth elementals flanking him, but fails to damage either one. They subsequently dispatch him with their rocky fists.

Bregor Rowain |
"Well, that was...anticlimactic."
Scratching the back of his head, The Green Man turns to the others.
"Looks like we did it. Let's look around and see what information we can learn about this place and what the giant-kin did here."
The Green Man begins to search the bodies first, then going over the barn slowly.
Sonechka Alkaeva |
Detect Magic, please.
Sonechka grimaces at the huge corpses as she steps into the barn. "I am surprised the fey was bothered by the creatures. It makes me wonder what his interest was in this farm."
Bregor Rowain |
"Perhaps we shall find out? Of course, the fey are given to thinking in ways us "normal" mortals are not, so we may never truly understand either."
Bregor Rowain |
"Hmmmph, it does not look like there will be any answers found here.
Shall we move on and check the other structures then?"
Stroking his chin with one hand, The Green Man looks over his companions.
"I don't think anyone but me were hurt in this combat at all?
That is pretty good all in all, we used their size against them."
As he moves out of the barn, The Green Man still contemplates why these foes had him riled so?
DM Bloodgargler |
When Green leaves the barn, he sees more thawn by the ring of dead trees.. a clearing of dead flora a hundred feet to the south. Two are dragging lifeless deer, and another carries the gathlain toward the large tree stump in the center.
The gathlain calls out "My friend! Help!"
I'll take d20 rolls from all please
Bregor Rowain |
The Green Man speaks to the others out of the corner of his mouth.
"Careful now, something if off about this scene, he seems to be faking this..."
Dolgrym Sharpaxe |
"There's only one way to find out. Let's go see what happens..."
Bregor Rowain |
"Going into a possible trap, but with our eyes open eh? Fair enough. Let me go first and keep your spells and weapons ready.
The Green Man straightens and begins to walk forward, and since it LOOKS like someone in danger he doesn't have to pretend to not be tense and ready for attack either.
"You! Let him go, now!
DM Bloodgargler |
(the two hollows you see are at (H-I,19-20) and the tree south of it... both facing center)
The third - holding Balamew - lags behind, and flashes the claws of one hand threateningly.
I'm assuming the rest of the party is 15' north of Green at the moment. You can't see the hollow in the stump (pictured in map) from where you are, but you see them duck and appear to enter.
Dolgrym Sharpaxe |
The dwarf held his action. He could try and slow down the Giants, but he couldn't stop their attacks, and even one would probably kill the poor fellow. "Anyone got any fancy talking? My spells aren't going to get him free..."
DM Bloodgargler |
Bregor Rowain |
The Green Man continues his cautious approach, fingers slowly tightening his grip on the earth breakers haft.
As he gets closer to the giant-kin, he feels his face slowly twist into a death's head grin, but again, he is unsure where this aggression is coming from.
"Can't hide from me, can't run.
So better just stand and fight, it will be...quicker that way."
Furiel |
"I don't know if they respond well to threats." -- Furiel whispers to the others.
Furiel steps up and begins to speak to the giants, confident in his new titles and buoyed by the recent festival. "You are in luck. We have negotiated the new Unseely Accords, and giants are now granted favorable judgement under our new banner. We have the combined might of the fey empire, the kingdom of dreams and shadows, and the binding word of the master rune giant binding all of giantkind. Put down the innocents and we can work this out. You do not want to disgrace giantkind and become hunted by all giants."
Bluff: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
The words coming from the small gnome with the helmet seem to have an amazing amount of conviction. The gnome confidently strides forward, no weapons in hand, but a ball of fire is passed from hand to hand as he produces flame.
"The largest of the flame giants taught me this trick. Do not cross me."
The small air elemental shoots up from the ground and makes the gnomes cloak billow in the wind for few seconds as it sharply lifts up and drops down again.
DM Bloodgargler |
The mud giant holding Balamew stops short, and drops the gathlain as it looks up in the high hollow of one of the dead trees. You see a small creature emerge, and two more from other trees. They look like imps or pixies with bat wings.. small skulls hang from their waists.
"Even released... not free.. not free. Kept is his soul.. as yours will be."
The two further away fly to the top of the large stump, while the nearer plucks a skull from its collection, and hurls it toward Furiel.
The other two throw theirs at Green and Norton.
The thawn and Balamew merely watch.. both wide-eyed and stunned... both seem to fully believe Furiel's wild claim.
The tiny skulls shatter into small miasmic clouds as they strike Furiel and Green. Wisps snake toward their eyes.

CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (spider web)
EFFECT
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect webs in a 20-ft.-radius spread
Duration 10 min./level (D)
Saving Throw Reflex negates; see text; Spell Resistance no
DESCRIPTION
Web creates a many-layered mass of strong, sticky strands. These strands trap those caught in them. The strands are similar to spiderwebs but far larger and tougher. These masses must be anchored to two or more solid and diametrically opposed points or else the web collapses upon itself and disappears. Creatures caught within a web become grappled by the sticky fibers. Attacking a creature in a web doesn't cause you to become grappled.
Anyone in the effect's area when the spell is cast must make a Reflex save. If this save succeeds, the creature is inside the web but is otherwise unaffected. If the save fails, the creature gains the grappled condition, but can break free by making a combat maneuver check or Escape Artist check as a standard action against the DC of this spell. The entire area of the web is considered difficult terrain. Anyone moving through the webs must make a combat maneuver check or Escape Artist check as part of their move action, with a DC equal to the spell's DC. Creatures that fail lose their movement and become grappled in the first square of webbing that they enter.
If you have at least 5 feet of web between you and an opponent, it provides cover. If you have at least 20 feet of web between you, it provides total cover.
The strands of a web spell are flammable. A flaming weapon can slash them away as easily as a hand brushes away cobwebs. Any fire can set the webs alight and burn away one 5-foot square in 1 round. All creatures within flaming webs take 2d4 points of fire damage from the flames.
Bregor Rowain |
A deep rumbling growl of frustration builds in The Green Man's chest.
The pests that seem to be the current threat are out of his reach, and he is suddenly all to aware of his complete lack of options for ranged combat.
Moreover, the giankin suddenly might not be an enemy.
Finally, he decides to enhance his protection for now.

"Come with me, Balamew, into the woods. I will not die here."
Balamew leaps up in the air and flaps his leafy wings to follow.
