That might just work

Man, pbps are hard. We have been trying to figure out how to proceed for a while now. In a game table it would be a 10 min conversation tops. I guess the easier answer would be to get back to whag we were doing before. Lets keep following the captai.ns track, if we bump into another ambush we deal with it when the time comes.

Dorf

Lien that plan

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

OK, see you all in the cannibal's camp then, tied down to some rack waiting to be chosen as dinner.

M Elf Wizard 4

I dunno, in my tabletop game, this sort of dilemma will take an entire session. I play with a bunch of overplanners.

My vote is to go around the coast if possible; looks like some of the shore might just be cliffs down to the water, though.

Failing that, either follow the tops of the bluffs (on the side opposite the ambush) or strike out through the bush.

In any case, attempt to make for the lighthouse. The captain is probably there. If not... Then we can find him after we fight the cannibals.

OK. pink line is direction captain's tracks go.
blue line (I believe) Is Tol's suggestion. Which puts emphasis on finding cannibal camp and avoiding being ambushed rather than track the captain.

What're the two x's?

Think they are the lighthouse and the cannibals camp

the x's are Kekkaw's two possibilities of likely spots for a lighthouse. The circle around the x's is where he believes the camp is.

M Elf Wizard 4

Yup, blue line is my suggestion.

Bah! I hate Summer.
A lot of f***ing work (and hot climate) and gaming dies :(

I'll start pushing tonight when I get home (about 9 hours from now)

Srry guys, its been hard to post. I have been overrun but work this week and my home's internet died. Fixing it this weekend. Next week things should be better.

M Elf Wizard 4

Man, mine too. Finally got fixed today though!

Shadow Lodge

Mook lvl 12

I have tried to set up a meeting with a guy from the phone company but the only day i had avaible this week the guy didnt show up. He is coming tomorrow...I hope.

M Elf Wizard 4

I've seen some other PbP's where people use Google Translate for dialog in other languages. I think it's awesome! I'm using Ukrainian for Dwarven, because Cyrillic is the most runic-looking alphabet used by a language available on Google Translate.

Also, just want to say that that whole tirade is intended in fun. Tol hasn't been berating Gatherine enough recently. Also, he's too polite to call Syndlara "the elf" in Common, but I had to work it somewhere. ;-)

The ironic thing is, in a few more levels, he'll actually have some sort of crazy exotic pet himself. Remember this moment, so you can give him a hard time about it!

Dorf

Too bad she can't have a chupacabra

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

What language of Golarion would you use Italian for Gordon?
I used Romanian for Varisian.

M Elf Wizard 4

I generally wouldn't use Italian in a PbP, because it's fairly likely that one of the players will be familiar enough with romance languages that they would be able to read it. If I had to pick a Golarion language for it, though, it would be Common/Taldane, as spoken in Cheliax. Of course, I would only bother with that if the standard language of the campaign were not Common; for instance, in Legacy of Fire or a Tian Xia adventure. (Actually, I prefer Esperanto for Common, haha!)

I actually just posted my languages list today, here.

If it were in Google Translate, I would use Romany for Varisian, but it's not. Romany is actually much more closely related to Hindi than it is to Romanian or other European languages. I picked Hindi for Sylvan, though, because it has a neat alphabet (and a related Google-ified language, Bengali, using the same alphabet, which I used for Druidic). Google Translate doesn't have any Indo-Iranian languages that use the Roman alphabet, so I settled on Basque. It looks neat, very few people speak it, and Basque country is, more or less, in the right place on the map to be Varisia.

M Elf Wizard 4

Haha, it's generally best to put the translation in the spoiler Gatherine. Reverse-translating from Google is a good way to make gibberish: "I do not even know why my father would appoint me guardian first. My sister has, as I have not arrived?" I can sort of make sense of that...

Female Elf Bard (Dervish Dancer) 4/Fighter 1

I prefer going straight to the roots and using Quenya for Elven.

Dorf

Just posted Gatherine throwing a tantrum. The reason her elder yet squishy sister doesn't have a bodyguard is due to her being smart and strong enough to take care of herself...and despite the fact she has been kidnapped thrice --estranged mother, previous farmhand who wanted to be her bodyguard and marry into Deepheavy clan(think dwarven Gaston ) but was foiled due to underestimating her abilities and the fact a pack of worgs chose the time to assault the farmstead, and then she was kidnapped/tricked by dwarven isolationists who needed female dwarves of...exceptional breeding from Droskar's Crag, which she handled solely before trudging home. And big sister hasn't settled on a bodyguard she likes yet. But she picked dependable Tol to watch her sissy!

But wee Gatherine gets kidnapped by degenerative half goblins from the Tangled Wood along the Lost Coast and almost forced to marry their insane 'prince' think Princess and the Goblin, she gets rescued quickly and a bodyguard slapped onto her.

Dorf

Wow it is gibberish. She's complaining about why she has to get a bodyguard and her elder sis doesn't.

M Elf Wizard 4

@Syndlara: I actually went straight to the roots of the roots; Tolkien was inspired by Finnish when he designed Quenya. More to the point, I don't know of an online translator which can translate arbitrarily large chunks of English text to Quenya (or Sindarin, for that matter). The vocabulary really just isn't big enough for general-purpose use. Furthermore, the Tengwar aren't in the Unicode standard, so they wouldn't show up on most people's displays. (There is an outstanding proposal for inclusion, and a few fonts that have them in user-space.)

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

Speaking of translations, these are funny (but one has to be familiar with both English and Italian, i'll try to translate the best possible way)

  • Un chierico che non può più trasformarsi in non-morto (this phrase appeared on the italian edition of i don't remember which Forgotten Realms novel. Read the way it is written it could sound like "A cleric who lost the ability to change into undead"...it doesn't make sense. That novel was about the age of disorders, during which a lot of deities died or were replaced, and therefore many clerics lost their ability to turn undead.
But in Italian "to turn" may be translated with "cacciare via-cast them away, make them run" or "trasformare-to change shape,to become something else".Simply the guy who did the translation knew nothing at all about rpgs or Faerun and picked the first translation he saw for "to turn undead".

  • Do you know what a "Pulciorso" is? It is the fusion of the Italian words for "Bug-Pulce,Insetto" and "Bear-Orso".In other words (always speaking of a time when rpgs where unknown here, and people tranlated literally) it is the tranlation of the goblinoid called Bugbear, but its't very cool to meet a "Pulciorso" instead of a "Bugbear" (today a lot of english names for the various monsters aren't translated, thanks God.

  • Female Elf Bard (Dervish Dancer) 4/Fighter 1

I generally avoid using translation software--and I actually study Quenya and Sindarin for fun, so I just use my own head. Using standard Roman letters, of course.

    M Elf Wizard 4

I wouldn't want to use translation software to actually translate something I intended someone to read in the target language. I do sometimes use it to translate something in another language to English, so that I can read it. But for the purposes of PbP, the point is to make phonologically consistent gibberish, assuming nobody in the group speaks the language. For that purpose, Google gets the job done fast.

When I was in college, I really wanted to learn Quenya. I read about the Tengwar, and I wanted to understand more about the logic behind it. I ended up getting a linguistics minor, and making some headway on my own constructed language... But I never learned Quenya.

I'll have map up perty soon. Brain stopped working again.

    Dorf

Got bored. And impatient. And aren't shocker lizards little aggressive jerks that attack anything in their turf? Hey,Gatherine has a fishing net! She could catch one! ...or raid their lairs for eggs.or young. Heh heh heh!

    Oracle lvl 4 [ HP 26/34 | AC 21 T 12 FF 19 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +3 | Init +2 Per -2]

    Hmmm...scramble eggs...hungry...
    /lick his lips

    M Elf Wizard 4

Yeah, despite Tol's complaints, after we've killed the big ones, there's no reason not to raid the nests for young/eggs. Except that then you have a pet that electrocutes you. ;-)

Gatherine - you're up. your shot before was a surprise round.

    M Elf Wizard 4

Here is a translator that does fantasy language. It's just a simple character substitution cypher, but it's cool. I wonder if it is unicode-capable, so that it could do non-Roman scripts.

Hm, I think that's the translator I've seen the DM of another game I'm in use.

regarding the lizards ability... I read it as "contributing lizard(s)" are the ones other than the primary. Now that I read it again I see you are right. Oh well, maybe the injured one has a low battery. They will be able to try again in 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds.
(and yes, one save for the combined shock)

Mugambi - Gatherine is in your way to charge to E,13. You also said you were charging the lead lizard so... how about F,11?

    Oracle lvl 4 [ HP 26/34 | AC 21 T 12 FF 19 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +3 | Init +2 Per -2]

Whoops. Forgot u cant charge through a space occupied by a friendly. Sure lead lizard sounds good.

    Dorf

Wanted to say sorry for rushing into this mess. Gatherine is paranoid and shot on reflex,I swear! The others are gonna be mad.

Feel free to roleplay interactions as you like. Imma be in the hospital for a few days. DM,feel free to DM-PC Gatherine as you see fit.

Male Mazinger-type Fan of Go Nagai level 38

No problem, pathfinder is combat heavy system after all.
Whatever you are in the hospital for, i hope it is nothing serious.

    Dorf

Function. Kinda swooned and fainted and kinda fell off my porch into a sturdy rose bush. Walking with a cane coz I got sea legs.

    M Elf Wizard 4

Yeah, Tol's going to be mad, and he's going to make Gatherine feel guilty about it. But we're about to win the fight, I think, and like Gandal said, combat is a big part of what the game is about.

In the face-to-face game I GM, the players are all really careful and want to plan everything out and be cautious, and it just ends up taking SO much longer than if they had someone impetuous in the party, who just rushed in. So having Gatherine being trigger-happy is kind of a breath of fresh air for me.

Hope everything works out at the hospital.

Tol - yeah you're right... and I knew that too. DM'd from 6pm to 3am saturday night. I just barely remember posting sunday morning, and spent the rest of the day feeling like an old man.

    Hope all is well Gath.

Dwarf Beast Rider Honor Guard (Cavalier) 3; AC 18/11/17; CMD 17; Saves +5/+2/+1 (+2 vs. pois., sp, sla); hp 28/31

Looks like Mugambi and the lizard are missing from that initiative order...

Ha... Yeah, doing much better today... Thx

    Oracle lvl 4 [ HP 26/34 | AC 21 T 12 FF 19 | CMD 17 | F +3 R +3 W +3 | Init +2 Per -2]

Get well soon Gath. Hope everything turns out alright.

    Congratulations friend. Happy birthday!

Happy birthday Gordon.Have fun today (or when you originally posted).

    Dorf

    Happy birthday!

And I'm outta the hospital! And my paycheck looks anorexic.

Now....can I get myself a pikachu lizard for a pet?!

Sorry all... kept thinking I'd get some time. School has started and I was supposed to be done with work... sneaky vacation time planning by my boss made me have to choose between leaving when I said I was or not having a job for next summer.
