Asha Ebele |
Wearing her dark clothes, Asha tries to blend into the shadows. She leans against the door, straining to hear what is happening on the other side.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Erodel Voralius |
Impressed by Idril's skill with a lock pick, Erodel gives an approving nod while continuing to scan the area.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
DM Bloodgargler |
Idril conquers the lock in a matter of seconds.
"Ante up... My deal."
"Aye.. watching you, Boy. Keep those cards up."
sounds close.. could be within sight of the doors.. you even hear the shuffling of cards.
As Idril unlocks the door...
"What? What is it?"
"Hmm. Prob'ly nothin." You then hear what sounds like a chair sliding back - as when someone is getting up from a table.
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
Standing in the background while Idril works, Indio strokes the short beard he had adapted into his disguise.
Big operation, calling for stealth and cunning, not merely fighting. It will be interesting to observe the capabilities of my comrades.
Asha Ebele |
Asha motions to Idril and the others to be quiet as she points to the door and whispers. "Guards. Playing cards. Very close." She reaches out to clasp Idril's hand. "If they come out, I won't let them hurt you."
Establishing Life Link with Idril.
Idril Ssethan |
Idril grinned and patted Asha's hand companionably before quietly rolling up her tools and putting them away.
Backing up, she pressed her hands together and prepared to cast Open/Close on the gate latch. She looked back at whoever was going to go first, waiting for their signal to open it.
DM Bloodgargler |
As the doors swing open, you see the guard who'd been moving toward the suspicious sound.
"What the-"
Just behind him, there is a drop-off into the salt pit - a cavernous circular chamber. A cart blocks a direct path to the other three guards seated at a table in the center of the front room.
(seated guards are only visible to Bgrae, Erodel, and Indio at the moment)
Asha: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bgrae: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Erodel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Idril: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Round 1
Erodel surprise action, then Bastargrae and Indio up for 1st round
Erodel Voralius |
"There's three more in here." Erodel says rushing in, pulling falchion along the way.
Partial Charge to (T,13). Rolls below assume the guard is human.
Falchion: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 2 - 1 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 + 2 - 1 - 4 = 10 (charge, favored enemy, power attack, non-leathal)
2d4 + 3 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 + 2 + 3 = 11 (favored enemy, power attack)

Indio focuses his glare at the guard at the door, doing his best to truly bore into him with his eyes.
"Oi! Ya lot 'ad better put up or shu' up!"
Demoralize opponent: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Hmmm, that line surely requires a touch more work I feel...
DM Bloodgargler |
The near guard evades Erodel's first assault. He draws his mace "Sure didn't see this coming. Bad idea.", and swings. The other three stand, and ready their maces as well.
The one in melee with Erodel backpedals a few feet.
Two come nearer.. one stalls.. "How many? Should I wake Kossrani?"
All are dressed and geared similarly to the Asmodean street thugs who you'd tangled with at the protest.
mace vs Erodel: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 4 = 16
non lethal damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Bastargrae, Asha, Erodel, Idril up
Asha Ebele |
Asha takes a step to her right to get a better view of what is happening. Having noticed the backpedalling guard, she raises a hand to him, her open palm facing him. "Stand down and you will not be hurt." She hopes the spirits will grant him the wisdom of not attacking her companions, as she doesn't want any bloodshed but she knows that her friends are not bound by the same feelings.
Forbid Action (attack) on the guard who attacked Erodel, DC15 Will to resist or he cannot attack for 1 round.
Idril Ssethan |
Idril hustled forward and hopped up on the wagon to (T,11)
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
She lashed out at the guy in (S,11) with her reinforced scarf.
Reinforced Scarf attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 = 10 for a possible 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 nonlethal bludgeoning damage.
Erodel Voralius |
Erodel grunts as he continues forward, taking another heavy swing at the guard.
5ft step to (S,12), targeting (R,11)
Falchion: 1d20 + 3 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 - 4 = 3 (favored enemy, non-lethal)
Damage: 2d4 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 3 + 2 = 12 (favored enemy)
DM Bloodgargler |
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
Indio, rather than attempting to imitate the natural grace of Idril, moves around the cart while he draws his blade, and when in position he attempts to distract the guard Erodel is currently fighting.
Move to T10
Aid another to hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
DM Bloodgargler |
The guard who'd been hanging back joins the fray - attacking Indio as he beleaguers Erodel's foe. The first guard to the fight now finds himself unable to attack. The other two fail their attempts to wallop Erodel and Idril.
T,9 vs Indio: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 4 = 16
if hits, non lethal damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

R,11 vs Erodel: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 3 - 4 = 4
Asha, Bastargrae, Erodel, Idril up
Erodel Voralius |
Erodel continues to swing at the same guard, hoping for a better result.
Target (R,11)
Falchion: 1d20 + 3 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 - 4 = 9 (favored enemy, non-lethal)
Damage: 2d4 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 + 2 = 10
"Damnit, just back down. I don't want to start trying to kill you..."
Idril Ssethan |
Again Idril lashed out at the guy in (S,11) with her reinforced scarf.
Scarf attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 4 = 8 for a possible 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 nonlethal bludgeoning damage.
Asha Ebele |
Asha moves up behind Erodel, attempting to reassure him with her presence at his back. "Do as he says, please, we don't want to kill you. He really is very good with the sword."
Aid another, attack: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
Realising he won't be able to take such blows for long, and that he cannot convince the enemy to back down now that battle is already engaged, Indio quickly reverses his grip on his weapon and jams the hilt towards the nose of the guard to his left.
Attack (Subdual): 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 4 = 8
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Then he steps back, hoping to separate himself from the fray long enough to catch his breath.
5' step to U11, or U10 if U11 is illegal.
DM Bloodgargler |
One of the guards barks at the one fighting Idril "Afraid of a scarf?! Just grab her!", then to the one fighting Indio... "Crack him again... he'll go down."
Indio avoids another mace strike. Idril's attacker clumsily lunges, but fails to get a hold of her.
The two fighting Erodel swing wide... one growls.. "Tired of pulling my punches here..."
T,9 vs Indio: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 4 = 1
S,10 grapple attempt vs Idril CMD 14: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 provokes AoO
S,11 vs Erodel: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 4 = 5
R,11 vs Erodel: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 3 - 4 = 13
AoO for Idril. Asha, Bastargrae, Erodel, Idril up
Idril Ssethan |
Dodging the clumsy grapple attempt, Idril lashed out him. AoO: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 - 4 = 6 for a possible 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 nonlethal bludgeoning damage.
Idril Ssethan |
Frustrated at her inability to hit anyone, Idril took a step back to (U,11). Waiving her arms and singing a soft tone, she cast Sleep on those targets at (R,10), (R,11), (S,10), (S,11). Will save DC14 or they fall asleep.
Asha Ebele |
"Idril, that was amazing!" Asha blurts out as two of the guards collapse. "You see, this is why you don't want to fight us. You don't want to, right?" she addresses the guard to Indio's right.
Forbid Action (Attack) on S,10 - DC 15 Will save.
Erodel Voralius |
Erodel steps over the sleeping form of his former opponent, moving into a flanking position with Indio and takes a swing at one of the remaining conscious guards.
Falchion: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 + 2 - 4 = 17 (favored enemy, flank, non-lethal)
Damage: 2d4 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 + 2 = 10 (favored enemy)
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
Indio steps up to the guard and holds his blade ready to thrust, smiling the kind of smile that is friendly, but does not reach the eyes.
"This is where you decide to be either bold but foolish, or decide that discretion is the better part of valour and surrender."
5' step to T10, ready attack vs attack
Asha Ebele |

Asha feels a wave of relief flood over her as the fight is over with little bloodshed. She pleads with her companions. "Oh, please, don't hurt them, they barely fought back. Just... tie them up or something." She prays to the spirits to give wings to her words, for she has in mind a bold strategy. Turning back to the guards, she coaxes them. "You are all good people, I know you are. Listen. Kintargo as you know it is under threat. Your lives, our lives, are under threat. The paracount doesn't care about you, about me, about anything and anyone, other than himself and his mad ideas. You think you are on the winning side now, protected, safe, but sooner or later he will proclaim another crazy edict and who knows what will happen then? How long until someone in your family makes a wrong step and the dottari, or even the Hellknights, come for them?" She takes a deep breath, looking each of them in the eye, her eyes pleading and her expression intense. "Listen. I will not ask you to put your life in danger by opposing the Paracount. But please, help us. Do the right thing. I know you can make the right choice here."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 2 = 27
Assuming that the rest of the party ties up the rest of the guards.

One guard speaks.. the others say nothing to quiet him.
"Prisoners are locked up in a room beyond that door. Kossrani's got the key, but seems locked doors don't stop you. Free 'em and go... if you're quiet, you won't see any more guards." His voice takes on a sardonic lilt "No one else needs to get hurt."
"But you're wrong... I am devoted to Paracount Thrune." He looks down to his Asmodean amulet "Kintargo will no longer be a disgrace to Cheliax."
The other three guards nod resolutely in agreement.

Damned sheep...being led to slaughter and don't even realize it. Erodel thinks to himself, shaking his head as he walks over to the door and begins to work on the lock.

Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
Indio smiles wryly, both at the unintended irony of the guards statement, as well as the tone he uses while offering "encouragement".
Amusing to think that being a disgrace to Cheliax may make this city seem like a haven of good graces in the eyes of OTHER countries.

"Hardly a fight good sirs, I would term it no more than a case of aggressive negotiations followed by a spirited disagreement."
"Now, unless you have grown overly attached to your enviers, I would counsel a swift rising and ask that you kindly accompany us to a slightly more hospitable locale."
Asha Ebele |

Asha cannot hope but feel slightly disappointed at her failure of bringing the guards over to their cause. But at least they did get what they came for, and all without loss of life. She decides to be content with that. To the guards, she nods. "I understand, and I respect your views. Thank you for your cooperation." To show her gratitude, she approaches the guard that had been skewered by Bastargrae's bolt. "Will you allow me to heal your wounds?"
Then, rushing to the former prisoners' side, she checks them for any injuries or illness. "Are any of you hurt? Can you walk? We need to hurry before the patrol comes back this way."
If the guard allows Asha to heal him, she cures 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 HP.
DM Bloodgargler |
"Best offer we've heard today.. we'll accept. Forvian Crowe.. this is my crew."
All appear human. Five men and one woman all showing the signs of brutal forced labor and beatings.
"We've not had the kindest keepers, but we can walk... thank you."
As you make your way out, the bound guards avert their eyes... ashamed of their plight or avoiding taunting looks from the escapees.
leaving?
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
"Have we got all the prisoners kept here?" Indio doesn't address anyone in particular, allowing the question to hang in the air for a moment.
As he does, he tries his best to see if he remembers coming across the name Forvian Crowe previously.
Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Jacques "Indio Black" Jhaltero |
Heh, short memory, my flaw, not my characters.
"Very well, we should not outstay our welcome, it would be most impolite to our hosts.
If you gentlemen and lady are quite prepared, we should take our leave."
Indio then decides that "accidentally" slipping the name of the group might serve to enhance the reputation somewhat in the long run.
As such he leans in and shakes the hand of Forvian while speaking in a low tone, knowing full well that in a small room, a low tone can carry better than most people realize.
"The Silver Ravens are happy to be of service."
Then he winks roughish before bowing and indicating the door.
DM Bloodgargler |
Forvian has a dark curly bowl-cut, prominent misaligned nose, and broad-shouldered and lean figure. He glances at Indio, and flashes a crooked smile as he processes what Indio had whispered.
He shakes his head.. responding to Erodel. "No.. just us."
You go out into the streets of Old Harbor.. no sign of danger.
Forvian adds.. with a nod to Indio "Good to hear that name again... no better time, if you ask me."
Wasp's Nest or elsewhere?
