Harbug recognizes these creatures as constructs known as Marble Sentinels. These creations are typically used to alert their owners of intruders, and pack enough natural weaponry to delay or remove intruders altogether.

Angelica stabbed deeply into the first head, flaking off a good-sized chunk of marble. Jakscar tried to dive past the thing, but his feet slipped in the dust, and his head rang with the sound thumping the creature's metal claw landed on his noggin as he stumbled to the ground next to Angelica. Fang jumped over the catman, clawing and gnashing at the marble creature. The stone yielded fractionally to the battle-cat's bite, but Fang yowled as his teeth raked off the hard stone. The pair of claws grabbed onto Fang's forelegs and raked the cat repeatedly, drawing even more yowls of pain. That brought Harbug thundering in, his longspear jabbing at the stone head, shearing off yet another large chunk of marble. That foe looked to be little more than metal legs and a hand-sized chunk of stone, but still it fought on.

In the corner, Zaphomil conjured a magical weapon that proceeded to swing ineffectually at the nearest head, which ignored it altogether. Shabbezz launched some magical missiles at the damaged head, but it still wasn't enough to down the creature. The other two opened their mouths and rays of green light shot out at Shabbezz and Zaphomil. Both of them immediately felt their muscles beginning to lock up.

Changing his leap this time, Jakscar uses the walls and column to propel himself further. Landing neatly he lashes out at the creature in front of him to distract it from the wizard and cleric.

Through Nethys' intervention or, far more likely, pure chance Shabbezz managed to avoid the effects of the green ray shot forth from the head.

Barking the command for the wand again, she spared a moment to rack her brain for any information on what these beings are and what their weaknesses might be. If a lightning bolt could improve their outlook, she wouldn't hesitate to use one.

After a quick glance to see that Shabbezz is unaffected by the beam, Zaphomil raises his holy symbol high and sends a wave of healing energy through his companions.

Angelica's strike cut the last bit of stone from the legs, ending the magic that held the construct together. This freed Jakscar up to launch himself at the head attacking Shabbezz, chipping a large flake of stone from that one. A few more chips flew off as Shabbezz used her wand to launch missiles at it. The grippli's frazzled mind could not recall anything about these marble sentinels, other than their basic description, but the magic missiles seemed to be working so far. Harbug and Zaphomil applied their healing, but then the gnome was assailed by the nearest marble head. Its metal claws tore into him, leaving wide tears in his side. Shabbezz was also hit once, the heavy metal smashing her delicate cheek.

Angelica struggles in considering her options. She saw Jakscar bounce off the last one they fought, now she would have to go through one and past the other. Granted, she was certain she could tuck and roll better than the catfolk, but the crowds around the things will make it harder. She decides that she would give her new bow a pull or two. She puts away the rapier, and draws the new bow.

Shabbezz reeled backwards with the force of the blow; her mouth was a bloody mess. Desperate to get out of melee range, she covered her face with he hands and slipped backwards past her companions.

Withdrawing as a full-round action to AA-61. this will open up a space for Fang to move in.

Withdraw:
Withdrawing from melee combat is a full-round action. When you withdraw, you can move up to double your speed. The square you start out in is not considered threatened by any opponent you can see, and therefore visible enemies do not get attacks of opportunity against you when you move from that square. Invisible enemies still get attacks of opportunity against you, and you can't withdraw from combat if you're blinded. You can't take a 5-foot step during the same round in which you withdraw.

If, during the process of withdrawing, you move out of a threatened square (other than the one you started in), enemies get attacks of opportunity as normal.

Angelica moved in to get a better ranged position while the others hacked and slashed at the marble heads. No one managed to harm the stony creatures, though the distraction was enough for Shabbezz at least to scurry out of harm's way. Zaphomil, however, was stuck. The gnome managed to get a spell off to shield him better, and it was well he did. Both marble heads attacked him with their metal claws. The flurry of blows mostly skittered off the gnome's displacement shield, but one got through, gouging Zaphomil on the left thigh.

Angelica is ready to try and put her new bow to use. She draws and nocks an arrow, and gives the thing a pull. Having been a while since she's toyed with any shot other than her hand crossbow, she finds the pull is tougher than expected. She resets her stance, and yanks back the bowstring, only to have it slip from her fingers and launch the arrow right at Jakscar's calf. She just barely nicks him, not even drawing blood, but it's enough that she is completely embarrassed by the act. "Oh, my god Whiskers, I'm so sorry. When we kill these things off, I'll kiss it and make it better." Sheepishly, she decides that maybe the cramped quarters wasn't the best place for her to practice, and puts the thing back in place.

From the back of the melee, Shabbezz spits blood onto the stone floor, then attempts to return her attention back to the battle.

Although she can only catch glimpses of the stone heads past the press of her companions' bodies, the magic missiles that she casts from her wand can still reach their target as long as they have less than full cover or concealment. Moving into a better vantage point, she raises the wand and practically hacks out the activation command.

Harbug adn Angelica got in each other's way as they fumbled their attacks, spoiling Jakscar's blow as well. in fact, teh only one that managed to get an attack in was Shabbezz, whose magical missiles chipped yet more marble from the head. Zaphomil took advantage of the creatures' unliving nature to channel some health back into himself and the others before the clacking metal claws thrashed at him once more.

With that statement, Jakscar throws himself forward in a flying kick, which allows him to push off the creature and drop behind it. As he flies over he twists in the air to scrape his blade against the stone head.

Despite his wards, the strange constructs were still too accurate with their attacks. He sends a burst of healing energy once more, then risks more damage as he withdraws from them, falling back behind his comrades.

Angelica can't take the cramped conditions any more. She needs more people moving out, and Whiskers moving further in. He tried twice and bounced off of them, she figured, that the things have left her unscathed enough to try for herself. She jumps to the base of the nearby column, and using Jakscar to vault off of leaps lengthwise across the nearest head. She grabs the next column and drops on the other side. Somehow, during the whole exchange, she managed to once more pull her rapier and attack the one she landed next to.

(With the +5 DC to move through, and +2 DC more for an additional enemy, she still beats a 24 base CMD.) Hopefully, that does it, these things have been hard to get around.

In a flurry of jumps and twists, Jakscar and Angelica both flip and dodge past their opponents, ending up side by side on the far side of the heads. Both swords flick out to chip the last bit of stone from the damaged head. The construct collapsed, even as Shabbezz's magical missiles swerved in. The blue-white missiles swerved past the dead construct and impacted on the remaining one, flaking away a few stone chips. The glowing starknife finally landed a blow, chipping away some more. Zaphomil healed some more, then ran for it, accepting the hit on his hip as a price worth paying to get out of there. Harbug and Fang moved up, cutting the casters off from any more immediate danger from the head. The marble head, seeing its immediate prey escaping, turned to Jakscar, but found the swordscat a much more difficult target to hit than the gnome.

Looks like the AoO would have dropped me. So no retreat, I just fall where I was. (It's just as well; I was going to be paralyzed this round anyway.)

She moves back north, past Fang, to try and step nimbly into the space over Zap's prone form. Even though he can't hear her, she tries to reassure him, "Don't worry little man, we'll get you to safety, maybe force a potion down you."

Zaphomil's fall spurred his companions on to greater heights, and they attacked in concert, chipping away at the metal-legged marble bust until nothing was left but a small pile of stone chunks. Then, the immediate threat dealt with, they turned to offer aid to their dying friend.

After looking to make sure the construct was truly destroyed, Shabbezz sheathed her wand and made her way over to Zaphomil. Her face was still bruised and throbbing, but the gnome seemed to be in worse shape.

Angelica is happy to see the last one finally stop moving, but it is short-lived, as the care for Zap becomes priority. While Shabbezz tends his wounds, Angelica reaches into her haversack and grabs one of her potions. Moving over to the little man so they can work on administering it to him.

Shabbezz clamped off the worst wound, and helped stabilize the gnome while Angelica rummaged through the pack to find a healing potion. Pouring it into the gnome's mouth revived him, and Zaphomil looked up into both the burglar's and the grippli's faces.

She pointed to her damaged jaw.

"Incidentally, once you've attended to your own needs, could you deign to bless me with some of Desna's healing magics? This is actually quite painful."

I was out of range the last time Zaphomil cast channel energy during the fight.

Initially running over to his stricken friend, Jakscar cools off as he sees Shabbezz and Angelica bring him round.
"You gave us rather a scare there. I know you get excited about all these old statues, but stay behind us larger types next time."
After admonishing the cleric, Jakscar starts bemoaning the chips in his blade, whilst wiping it down on a bit of soft cloth."Alas, this blade is going to need one hell of a polish or it will end up serrated. When are we going to stop chipping stone and fight some real villains."

He dusts himself off and looks at the others. "The good news is, I don't have to patch you tall folk up as much. Next room, I'll stay in the middle, since the front and the back are both hazardous."

Angelica looks between the two little ones, "Are you both certain you want to continue? You've used a lot of healing magics since that glass statue. If you don't have enough left, another fight like that might be too much more." She looks at the others, noting that Zap is right, in that the rest of the group suffered very little during that last bout. "I'm just fine, and can keep going, but I don't want to risk anyone else just because I live a little recklessly."

More importantly, I still have the magic of the shard which can speed up everyone's attacks, giving us a decided offensive advantage if needed."

Angelica shrugs, and getting no disagreement from any of the others, continues to take the lead in creeping cautiously forward through the complex.

Angelica began leading the others around the corner and down the hallway, motioning for the little ones to stay behind her this time. When she reached the corner, she saw something that didn't look right. Kneeling down, she looked at the stones in the floor and saw that they didn't really seem to look right. She scanned the floor and decided that the area that was different extended about ten or fifteen feet ahead, filling the width of the corridor. There was a bump out in the hallway wall to the left of the different are, and there seemed to be plenty of room beyond the area for a running jump, but on this side there wasn't much room to build up speed.

Angelica stops everyone, holding her hand up behind in warning, "Okay, guys, I think this hallway is trapped. Back up around the corner while I try to disarm it. It could be either magic or a pressure plate, so even after I disarm it, we should pass it one at a time." With the warning given, she draws out her tools, and waits until the group is clear before starting.

Disable Device 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25 and Careful Disarm (Ex): Whenever she attempts to disarm a trap using Disable Device, she does not spring the trap unless she fails by 10 or more. If she does set off a trap she was attempting to disarm, she adds double her trap sense bonus to avoid the trap.

"I can cast fly on someone in order to help us bypass it," Zaph offers. When Angelica start a to disable it, he grows quiet but keeps it ready in case of an ambush on the other side of the pressure plates.


It took the better part of a minute, but Angelica finally managed to rig the floor in such a way that she was pretty sure that it wouldn't fall out from beneath them...hopefully.

Not willing to punish anyone else for any mistakes she might have made, She lets the group know, but still goes first across it. "I can't confirm if it's perfect, but here's the deal. I'll go first, and everyone else cross single file afterward, taking the same path I did. Only one person on it at a time." With that, she tentatively steps to the first edge, then crosses over to the middle of the alcove, then back on to the last portion, to end up on the other side. "There, just like that." Once across, she moves far enough to allow the others to follow, while returning to her scouting stance.
