Angelica waves off the ring, "Take it Buggy, I can roll with the fall, and I think Whiskers should be able to as well." Looking at the statues, "You all go first, I'll go last to keep distracting these things if they move on you for the jump."

She will wait for the others to go, then jump in last.

Zaphomil satrted to fly back down into the hole, but as soon as he hit the slow-fall zone, his motion came to an abrupt deceleration until he was falling at that interminably slow speed once more. As the darkness engulfed him, he looked up to see Shabbezz following him into the shaft.

Assuming everyone jumps in the shaft:

As you stepped into the shaft, you could feel the feather fall effect taking hold almost immediately. Then, the darkness washed over you. All light was extinguished and there was nothing to do but fall slowly into the darkness.

You fell for what seemed like ages, but must have been less than a minute. Finally, you popped out of the shaft and fell the twenty-five feet to the floor of a vast, well-lit, worked stone chamber.

The ceiling, walls, and floor were made of smooth gray marble. Ornate columns resembling the ones in the chamber above rise to hold the ceiling aloft. A ten-foot square platform nestles against one wall, atop which lies a brilliant white sarcophagus with a painted lid. From the left, facing the sarcophagus, and around a turning hallway, you can hear the sound of gently running water.

Here's the map

While waiting for everyone else to appear out of the shaft, Zaphomil casts detect magic and begins scanning the chamber, paying special attention to the platform with the sarcophagus.

After landing, Shabbezz took a look at her surroundings while still staying well withing the bounds of her stealthier party members. The sarcophagus immediately caught her attention, but wary of setting off any traps, she merely stepped forward a few feet and tried to see if she could make out anything useful about it without disturbing it in any way.

Approaching the sarcophagus, you can see that there is an image painted on it, one of a beautiful dark-hared woman with her arms crossed over her chest as if sleeping. Shabbezz immediately recognizes the image as that of the Runelord Sorshen, the Runelord embodiment of lust. The lithe, but voluptuous body depicted in the painting is certainly one that would spur the feeling, and many among the group feel uncomfortably drawn to the figure. The stone lid appears heavy, but there are no clasps or anything keeping it shut.

Until she hears from the others that the coast is clear, Shabbezz keeps her voice to a whisper.

"Another image of Sorshen," she gestures to the sarcophagus, "And it doesn't appear to be locked, not physically anyway. I'm curious, but it could still be trapped."

She refers to Harbug and Zaphomil.

"If either of wish to lend a hand, I'd like to know for certain what magics have been worked into it, if any."

If there's time, I want to cast detect magic (CL5) for three rounds on the sarcophagus.

Given the size of the area we entered, does my recent perception count for the sarcophagus, or should I roll again for it specifically?

Once comfortable that there are no new enemies in the area, Angelica returns to the sarcophagus at Shabbezz's mention of traps. A single eyebrow lifted in curiosity and interest.

Zaphomil looks more amazed than he has in his entire life. "Sorshen herself! This could be her remains! The actual, physical remains of a Runelord! This is unprecedented! Well, except for that incident in Xin Shalast, I suppose."

He rubs his hands in anticipation, barely restraining himself from attempting to push the lid himself.

I totally missed that. Sorry, my fault.

Shabbezz is not so certain regarding Zaphomil's enthusiasm.

"I would have expected the remains of a Runelord to be more heavily guarded. In fact, if I were an unimaginably powerful and devious wizard with massive resources, I would probably lay out a decoy or three as a trap, for spite's sake if nothing else."

@Angelica - Roll separately please.

Angelica's probing eyes marked something that none of the others had noticed, or at least hadn't commented upon yet. The light that illuminated this place didn't come from torches, but rather from the walls themselves.

The magic that illuminated the place was all that Zaphomil and Shabbezz could detect, washing away any other magic sources - including the ones from the equipment you carry - like the sun washes away the light of a candle.

Zaphomil peered at the sarcophagus closely, not seeing any scratches or marks that would indicate that it had been tampered with at any time.

Angelica eases up to the edifice, and gives it the intense scrutiny she learned to apply to things you fear may poses risks. She looks for any changes in tension, air flow, or even the unmistakable finite tingle of stored magical energy.

Shrugging, she moves over to the northeast corner of the thing and tries to get a grip on the lid. Indicating that at least a few others should grab the lid as well, she asks "Well, shall we open it up and see if this shard we're looking for is inside?"

Despite being very heavy, the stone slab shifted easily with Harbug's might behind it, and everyone else adding their efforts. Within the stone container was a beautiful woman, the embodiment of the painting on the stone lid. But, as in most things, the painting did not do this woman justice. No mere pigments could show the luster of her skin, nor the rosiness of her lips. The diaphanous robes she wore barely concealed the luscious curves beneath, and the massive amounts of jewelry she wore covered more of her skin than the flimsy cloth. She looked almost as if she were sleeping, not dead.

The spell clawing at your mind could not get traction as your mental defenses easily pushed it aside.

Angelica:

From the woman's chest burst the most hideous being you have ever seen in your life. Your darkest imaginings, and deepest nightmares seem like mere watercolor paintings to this creature. A beaked maw and tentacles with hooked tips reached for you, as its mental assault pummeled your mind. Your heart thundered in your chest as you vainly tried to protect yourself...and it was gone. Your heart hammered still, and you felt a warm wetness trickling from your nose. As it streamed over your lips, you realized it was blood. Angelica, however, flinched away from the sarcophagus and started screaming, waving her arms in front of her as if to ward off something terrible. As she got herself under control, she turned and you could see a small trickle of blood running from her nose, and a wild look in her eyes.

Zaphomil shoos away Jakscar's hand as he floats back down over the beautiful form. "Probably best no one else touch. Just like Angelica said, there's no telling how soon this magic will reset itself. Perhaps we should just grab the gold and jewels and seal her back up," he says, unconsciously rubbing the Thassilonian shard in his pocket.
