A foul omen looms in the sky over the scoundrel city of Riddleport, an ominous shadow that defies the light. Is it a curse laid millennia ago by forgotten mages? Does it forewarn against the return of some terrible foe? Or does it portend a terrible
I'm assuming Kel would get the best rolls for negotiating prices, but she could use an assist from her well known companions to help drive up the price for our goods. I thought the amulet was going to Lefrik, he needs any AC buff we can get him.
Then that would be an additional 1,000 gold, assuming we get the standard half-price for selling it (so 286 total for each of us and 300 for party funds).
A fetching smile to up the price of sale, framed by a brawny barbarian, burly dwarf, bright eyed goblin, and devotee of calistra that killed no less than 33 thugs according to the rumors.

Good idea. I'm thinking of picking up Craft Magic Arms and Armor if I make it to 5th level. ;) Combined with that scroll of Burning Hands and my new Magic Weapon-spell, I can probably set you up for a nice +1 Flaming Rapier or similar -- provided we have the cash and the time.

If no one else has any questions for the Cypherlords, I guess that means the flashback is done now. ^^ Everybody pile on back into the T.A.R.D.I.S. for the voyage back to the present! Next step -- after this gang meeting, that is -- organizing poker night for the unaffiliated mages of Riddleport at the Golden Goblin. :p

My network crapped out yesterday evening, and there is no telling as of yet when it will be back up. Please NPC me until my return? I hope it may be today, but can not be certain...
Not directly related to this campaign, but I am experimenting with Photoshop to bring my mapmaking skills to the next level. Here is the first map I have made for a dungeon I am building for one of my other campaigns. What do you guys think?
If this works out, you guys will benefit from the new maps as well. Just thought I would solicit your opinions on it.

Wow. That is huge...which is handy to folks with poor eyesight like myself. I can see the grain of it contrasting nicely with the "smoother" parts.
Wow, looks very nice. My one thought from using Photoshop for PBP maps is make sure the grid isn't too small, as it makes it harder to see which character is which. That's a problem I've got with some of the maps I'm taking from modules (the character icons get reduced to 14 px-by-14 px, which can really pixellate them).
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. The grid is 50x50, which is pretty good for the icons. I'll probably still import the map into MapTools for the actual usage, so I can get the coordinates and other tools I use.
Looks really good! As you create objects save them as individual files you can then copy and paste into new maps, creating a 'library' of objects for continued use. I use Campaign Cartographer 3 for home grown campaign maps and one of their big strengths is having a library of objects to drag and drop then scale to any map, makes things real easy. Not sure if layering is utilized in photoshop (I assume it would be), that's a great cartography technique for making digital maps easy to adjust and edit.
Just curious, I'm assuming everyone knows the basic plot of this AP?
Actually, not so much. I've heard it takes off on some tangents that not everyone liked but it was said a good DM could work around it. I've also heard that some of the encounters are pretty harsh (Which after some of the fights we've had I believe it) and can TPK if you're not careful.
I assume that somehow things tie to the inkblot in the sky given how it is stressed and the names of the adventures but that's hardly detective work. EDIT: And then I read the gameplay post and that confirms it :)
And , with Saul, I suspect treachery is a consistent theme.

I know but little, certainly not all. I am eagerly awaiting further revelations - and also the opportunity to kick Saul in the fork, if he really meant to sell us out to wererats.
Kelendra -- why not let yourself be surprised? I'm happy to not mention any spoilers (I've only read through the AP description myself, so it's not like I'd be saying a lot, though I have some suspicions about the mysterious character).
Yea, I'd prefer that, of the 5 regular PbP games that I'm in, 4 of those I selected because they were adventures that I didn't know and hadn't read. The surprise factor as the story unfolds is one of the highlights of the games. Don't let me derail the party at any point by going in a wonky direction, but I'll just remain clueless about the AP if that works for everyone :)

Alright, then let's talk about what we do next.
I'm not trained in Disguise, so my checks would be at +0. Taking 20 will take over two days for the lot of us, and I don't want to wait that long. The best option for magical disguises would be potions of Disguise Self, but that's 50 gold a pop, and only lasts 10 minutes. Best option? Whoever has the best Charisma takes 10, and Calla bolsters them with Guidance. If Bigrin will let us, we could try to assist the leader for better results.
Something else to keep in mind: if we're disguising Anklebiter as something other than a goblin (and we probably should), that's a -2 to the check.
After that, we make our way to the Goblin, and try to sneak in. What are our possibilities for entry? Front door, back door to the kitchen...is there a way into the basement?
I still don't quite understand why we think we need disguises. Just because we survived doesn't mean Saul knows we know he set us up.
I think we just go in acting normal long enough to get us with Saul (possibly alone) and then take him down. He's going to be surprised to see us so even if his first reaction is to attack (and does he have other guards? I forget), we'll be more prepared than he is.
Or we wait for night, enter as we normally would (his other employees should have no reason to think anything's amiss) and capture him in bed.
A night time raid might be more our characters style, but the problem there is we don't know when or IF the wererats were supposed to check in with someone
