As Newhaven rises, threats besiege it from all directions. To the north, the news of the last heir of House Rogarvia threatens the start of a new war. To the south, an empire of trolls and monsters grows.

Yeah my thoughts mirror Taisper's above -- Akiros as a PC started his part of the story right when the rest of the group headed out, so regardless of the geography I believe the treasure should be shared.

I know Eoin may be back as a player, even if on more limited posting time, and so I'm fine with that as well. From a character perspective, Tandlara has been pretty essential in the events with Akiros (uhh crit Enervation WOW), so that feels right to me as well. I'd rather see Tandlara take the Elven Cloak for example, rather than it be sold for coin. I don't view Tandlara now in the way I view NPC's such as Jhod, Kesten or even Corwin when he was alive. I would just like to see some cameo posts of Tandlara when she, you know, is conscious and all :)

My Rant of Irritation:
Okay so just a minor rant now about Alexius since we're talking about characters and NPC's that I have to get off my chest. Other than inspiration that Barcas may have with him as an antagonist or plot device, I would be perfectly fine with Alexius being dropped altogether. His role as a possible foil for Taisper was somewhat interesting in the Interregnum, but Taisper basically resisted the "dark path" that the diabolist had to offer him at the end of their year-long hunt. I'm totally fine with him skulking away to corrupt some other town, or even to emerge as a villain in our story, but I'd really hate to see him return as a player choice. His brief appearance as a full character really set my teeth on edge. "Oooh look at me I'm a dark magus guy with my darkblade and dark brooding darky-darkness so I don't have to talk much." Blech. As a reader I was rooting for Corwin from the get-go, but Alexius just cut against the grain. Admittedly this rant is biased and not based on sound principles of logic and objectivity, but there ya go. Okay end rant and now back to our regularly scheduled programming!

EDIT: Got a post coming for the night of the 26th for Berrin, but work has me skipping lunch hour today.

Okay, am I the only one who's completely lost track of what's going on with all the date-fragmentation in the gameplay thread? Yikes. The sooner we can consolidate, the happier I'll be.

Or, maybe I'm just being lazy. :-p

Reply to Rant of Irritation:
Frankly Alexius didn't even cross my mind when I was making the loot sheet.

I still think the character had great potential for opening up avenues of approach to the game unavailable to us goody-two-shoes types but he never really got of the ground imo. To be honest the character ground my nerves as a player as well but, also as a player, I saw potential in him and his story.

If anyone were to step up with heart to play him I'd say a hearty welcome and wait for the chance to have Berrin split his skull open.

With no hard feelings of course, just in lieu with the story.

Personally I vote the cloak goes to Zander if he wants it. Thematically it fits him the best (better than Taisper imo) as he's the stalking ranger-y type of a fighter.

Male Human Heretic 5 Master of Many Styles 1

Obviously, I agree with that. :-)

Talking about Zander, where is Meowzebub?

Male Human Heretic 5 Master of Many Styles 1

Yeah, haven't seen that cat in my game, either. Not for a few days.

I found Jemini's and Tandlara's e-mails, added them to the doc.

Missing Isaac, Steven, Meowzebub and Khaladon if you guys are interested.

Rant of Irritation:
I was pretty disappointed by him. I really wanted Alexius to make a difference in the game. His backstory was fantastic and his writing looked decent. Unfortunately, he really didn't live up to the hype. I've kept him around as an NPC, though I can't justify him being in storylines other than Taisper's. I considered him being part of Akiros's storyline here, though I decided against it. Tandlara's options represented the less-honorable path, and Jhod the less-lawful. Alexius didn't have anything to offer the story, so I didn't put him in where he didn't belong. I'll figure out something to do with him, but there's still a bit of drama left in the character.

Corwin was a good addition, though his story (bastard son of a Surtova) also didn't pan out. His death was really helpful in advancing the story, and the repurcussions of it will continue to be felt. He's probably hanging out in the CG afterlife now, content not to return.

Go Taisper perception GO!

Sorry, I forgot about the perception check and did my rolls all out of order. Didn't wanna change 'em 'cos that'd be cheating. :-p

Yeah yeah you just wanted to be the first to start up the SMACKDOWN admit it. :)

Working on the calender now, am I right that we've only spent one winter in the stolen lands? This is our second spring right? Because I've been having Berrin jap on about surviving in the lands for two years...
My bad, sorry.

Blame it on the 8 Wisdom.

I think the simplest solution for the loot list is the answer to the question- Did our DM calculate the loot given for 6 PCs, 7 or 8?

Case closed, no?

Uh, I just sort of eyeballed it.

I've copied out Zander's calendar sheet to my own and plan on starting to add to it tomorrow but if anyone can tell me how many days are in each golarion month it would save me some trouble. Thx.

They're the same as our months. They just changed the names.

Male Human Fighter (Archer) 6

Sorry, Trying to play catchup. I am working 14 hour days trying to meet a work deadline. It has curtailed my internet access and leaves me exhausted in my off hours. Will likely still be very busy through the end of the month, but I think the worst is behind me. I feel like I missed a week of my life...I think Thursday was the last time I was on line. I think I suffered some withdrawal symptoms.

Loot wise, I am happy with the bow. I will take the cloak if that is deemed best use, but I would lose a +1 cloak of protection. Will think on that.

@rants. I enjoyed Zander's interaction with Arikos. He definitely rubbed Zander the wrong way, but I took that as a good thing for the story.

LOL! Well, actually, if I had done the rolls in the correct order, then everything would have gone perfectly. As it is I made the Intimidate check but blew the other two. But re-labeling my rolls after the fact would be supremely s##!ty and uncool.

I don't know if it's come through but I think it's about time for an alignment shift for Berrin to Neutral Good.

I feel that the past year should have been a year of growth for the big guy, growth from individualistic hedonism to some sort of (emotional?) maturity so to speak. Working in a group, heading a nation, the things he's seen in council and lastly finding a form of lasting comfort with one person should all have worked him in that direction as hard as he's fought back.

What'ya guys think?

btw. I have no idea if that anarchistic burp made any sense, it sounded plausible but I have no idea if it would actually work. Just sounded Chaotic...

Don't think I've ever been as glad for sick days in my life as I've been the past few days, I'd never have gotten all this posting done if I weren't home with the flu.

Calanderic difference; The days in a month seem to be the same except the golarion year is a day shorter that the earth year with a leap year every year divisible by 8 instead of every 4th year. The leap year day is 31. Arodus (August) who then by default must regularly have 30 days.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Sounds good for a new alignment.

Yeah I thought that was actually a very good representation of that philosophy - sounded plausible and accurate to me. Of course I have to play Verik as being on the other side of that argument, but in my monthly home campaign my CG Cleric/Fighter of Trithereon would be right there with Berrin going "Yeah yeah right on - what he said! And FREEDOM!" :)

NG is actually my favorite alignment to play. I'm personally glad when I took up Verik that Rellen had him LG and not LN, because while I understand how to get at LN it's hard for me to play that to the hilt.

Male Human Fighter (Archer) 6

I actually really enjoy LN. You live to a personal code or honor, be damned what is happening around you. Great for Monks, Mercs, Military...and clerics and wizards who have a perspective above the events swirling around them...they have glimpsed the big picture, as it were.

I finished setting up the calenders for 4708 and 09 and shared them with you lot (except Meowzebub who I don't have the e-mail for) but my days of happy posting galore are drawing to a halt once more as I'm off to work tomorrow. I guess filling in the comments of events will have to be a long term project but I gave you guys editing rights if any of you gets the urge to fill something in.

Or perhaps Barcus you could add it to the Game info page?

Excellent time in the story for a critical hit.

You may want to roll a 1 on that suicide though.

err... ok...? Not sure how to proceed from here... Are you looking to end Akiros's story at this point Khaladon or asking for a dramatic intervention from Berrin or Taisper?

If the latter than I guess your giving a heads up for your next rounds action so Isaac; We're still in initiative right? And do we spot Akiros's intentions? Any rolls needed for this? Sense Motive or Perception perhaps?

A little ranting of my own this time around:
btw. I f$*@ing hate suicides and have a hard time feeling any sympathy for them personally. The victims are the next of kin, not the selfishness-driven suicidee imo :) Ok? I'll try not to have that reflected in Berrin as he'll rush to the rescue for Akiros if need be.

I think his intentions are likely pretty clear.

And you're still in Initiative. He'll need a full round action to coup de grace himself. You'd need to disarm or grapple him to prevent this. Or use your words, but that's not Berri's style.

Rant Response:
Having been to a lot of suicides, I understand how you feel for the most part. It sucks for the family.

Then Taisper is up. Not that he'll give a whit.

Weird turn there. Hey does this mean that Barcas gets to use one of the insanity conditions for Akiros out of the Game Mastery Guide? ;)

Updated alignment and added links to the google docs in profile, working on Valnyr now.

Question; Could Berrin commission a suit of mail, helmet and arm-and leg bracers to upgrade his +1 agile brestplate to a +1 agile half-plate or would he have to sell off his breastplate and buy a new set of armor?

The brestplate costs 1550 off the rack (775 selling price) and the half plate costs an even 2000. Would he have to pay the full 1325 gp differance (effectively selling the breastplate and buying the half-plate) or is there some in-between way to get this done? (Of course I hoping you'll say he only needs to pay the 450 difference but frankly I'm not expecting it.)

What is the gp limit for Sanctuary atm?

Male Human Samurai-Ronin 4/ Oracle-Battle 3 | AC 24/ T12/ F23, HP73, F+8/ R +4/ W +7, Init +1(Roll twice), Percep +6, Sense Motive +10

Hey wow, didn't mean to cause any upset here folks, sincere apologies if that's the case. I never take in-game situations into real life, as the two are very separate for me. But I do understand how that might happen.

As Barcus said, I thought my intentions were pretty clear, but at the same time, I didn't want to dictate Berrin or Taisper's actions, which is why I didn't post here in the OOC "Save Him!" or anything of the like. If I'd intended to end Akiros' game here though, I would've posted something different, or just said bye. To be clear, that is Not the case at all.

Rant response (these seem to be getting Popular! ; ):

As for the opinions on Suicide, I completely agree. It seems to be so against the Natural Order of things. That being said though, I don't think any of us (given the fact that we're all still here) can really know for sure the full, true, mental and emotional state of those who choose, and more importantly, go through with, such a 'way out' .

One of my favourite movies, 'What Dreams May Come', starring Robin Williams and Anabella Sciorra (Cutie!!) gives what I feel to be one of the best depictions of suicide. Basically that by choosing such an action suicides are not 'judged' by anyone (there being either no one/thing To judge, or the Thing that there Is does Not judge at all) but do actually create their own hell for themselves. Their 'act of escape' instead actually trapping them in the very same torment they were trying to escape from.

Anyway, as I said, I agree with the stated sentiments that the worst part is for the families and those left behind. Thing is, in Akiros' case, he killed all of his 'family', and so....

As I've indicated before, the way I write it usually feels that the characters write themselves, and when I read what Akiros had to say, it certainly seemed appropriate to me, given the circumstances.

But again, sincere apologies if I touched on any sensitive issues for anyone.

Peace

Please do read the spoiler as well.

Perhaps temporary insanity might be more appropriate? : ) Considering all he's been through, that certainly doesn't seem a stretch to me.

And both Berrin and Taisper will both get to go before Akiros does. (And ya, wasn't really counting on Taisper to save Akiros' life ; )

In reply to my own question; buying limit 2000 gp, selling limit 10000 gp. Does that mean that there's a 75% chance that the thing already is available?

Chasing after the dwarven smith in Restov to upgrade for Berrin has a certain more charm to it though...

That's an interesting way to do it -- kind of like how you'd build armor in the Ultimate Combat variant rules. While that mechanic seemingly has some big flaws in it, the notion of constructing an existing half-plate template seems pretty sound. Plus, you'd look cooler in the half-plate - girls dig the look ;)

Haven't checked those rules, maybe I'll give them a once over. I thought about going full-on fullplate, with the sash it's the option that offers the most imo, I just love the idea of Berrin wanting a less movement-restricting option.

Valnyr is up in a spoiler on Berrin's sheet, I don't have much experience with animal companions so if someone would take a look for me I'd much appreciate it.

I don't see any problems with upgrading the breastplate to half-plate. Considering that this one and its cool embossments were special-ordered by a dwarven smith in Restov (IIRC), he could likely upgrade it for you. Maybe an even 500g. Because he's a dwarf.

If you want to detail NPCs in your area of influence, feel free. Less work for me. Make them 15 point buy, 2nd level (3rd for a "lieutenant" style NPC).

I thought about it and realized that if Akiros was just a suicide, you'd be right. Taisper would likely let him do it. However, in this case, Taisper feels (perhaps rightly so) that Abadar is intervening on Akiros' behalf, recognizing the erstwhile samurai's usefulness to the endeavor of building a new nation. As such, Taisper is horribly offended that Akiros would dare reject such a blessing.

Also, Taisper still has Akiros "marked" from back at Stagfall, which means if anyone's gonna take his life, it's going to be him, or so he thinks.

Male Human Heretic 5 Master of Many Styles 1

Oh, and also, we had a very large tree branch come down in our back yard last night that ripped all the lines out of our power pole. As such, while we got power back within a few hours, we still have no internets since we have to wait 'til the tree guys can clear everything away so the cable company can get us back up and running. On top of this, I leave for a major trade show (Sweetwater's GearFest - kind of a junior NAMM, sort of) in a couple hours and won't be back until very late Saturday night. As such, I may not be able to post again until Sunday, and if I do, it'll just be short updates.

Just a heads-up.

The most difficult thing so far in updating the calender is the naming of events. For instance; Should I call the first time we met Ilyana and Nicholas Jr. A Troubled Wife, Cabin in the Woods or just "Doggy!" after Nick's epic reactions to the tylacyne?
