Oh yeah awesome entrance there, and the pic is freaky good! Of course I went straight to look at your character's stated appearance, but since you're not a halfling with two shortswords I figured you are still working on getting all of that written out :)
Verik of Abadar |
Sweet! Looking forward to some dynamic interaction between Akiros and his pal Tandlara ; )
Oh and speaking of creepy -- uhh Akiros good luck in the cultist cellar, because that can't be good!

Yeah, I was on and off tour (or sometimes "tour" :-p) for the last couple weeks, and similar to LK, the project I'm currently contracted on has entered death march territory. So in addition to shows and an overbooked studio, I'm also doing some long hours at the day job. Just finally had time to get caught back up on all my threads today, hopefully can keep things going now that this spate of gigs is done.
It killed me to miss the "what to do with the kobolds" discussion, but I just couldn't devote the time to it that it deserved, so I let TS be silent, and then finally just now worked through it with what I just posted.

Boy, some people will use Any kind of minor excuse to get out of stuff, eh?
But seriously bro, no worries! Was just checking in. Get well and rested and post when yer feeling better.

All-
For whatever reason m computer consistently refuses to load Paizo or send posts. I am posting two and three times every time I want something up. Posting from my phone is slow. So I'l try to tough it out and diagnose the problem when I'm not working. Please be patient with me. I dig the character and everyone's roleplay.

Eoin gave it the go-ahead, and told me that he looks forward to things calming down in the summer so that he can explore whatever deal it was that she made.
I had planned for Corwin to sacrifice himself around here in the story (namely to make room for Berrin to step down). It just came a little faster than I unexpected thanks to Malgorzata's critical hit.
Vorduvai |
That was eventful. I didn't expect the rolls to fall as they did, yet they did.
Tandlara is well on her way to a dark place, by the way. Keep a close eye on her. Who knows what deal she made with her patron for that power, and for the dice to favor her so?
I've never heard of an Enervation crit before, and max levels too to boot. Can't script that any better really. Turned the fight around too, because otherwise that was looking like three dead Founders.
In a way though it was a fitting end to Corwin with how his story progressed as an NPC, as he was a character that never could get over his demons. A worthy bit of text there to cover that I thought.
Of course, none of us are going to know what happened in that dark cellar with Tandlara - not sure Akiros is going to understand it fully himself but it really sets things up between them. One thing's for sure - there's going to be some great potential for conversations when everyone returns to Sanctuary and finds out what happened.
(Well assuming all of us live through hags, witches, trolls and lizardmen that is hehe)
DM Barcas |
Akiros likely heard about her sudden surge of power during the fight against the Stag Lord, though he did not witness it (on account of being blinded by Tandlara) himself.
I went to the witch spell list to find a 3rd-5th level spell that reflected a dark, dark place and had the potential to even the scales with Corwin down. When enervation crit, and then 2d4 rolled 8, I knew it was meant to be.

"Crazy-man is man who crazy." Jabber answers Berrin's question with what the Steward could swear is sarcasm.
Hehe that is the best! We need Jabber to give us more insight like this throughout the trip.

For those that missed it: in South Africa we're celebrating National Cleavage Day today :D (yes, it's a real thing). Every year I do a post on tenletter for the day that combines cleavage and DnD. Everybody welcome to enjoy the day!
Verik of Abadar |
Haven't done it yet because Verik is messing with him, but I'd have Verik agree with Berrin's idea of going into the swamp and taking on the lizardmen.
Also remember that crazy man is man who crazy...

I'm thinking of adding a few house rules regarding a few spells. Neither have really come up yet.
1) Haste is the single most over-powered spell in the game. I propose that it be changed to 1 target per 3 levels rather than target/level. As it is, it is exponentially powerful.
2) Cure X Wounds is great, but I would like to add a little more long-term danger. I see Wand of CLW turn people from death's door to 100% in a matter of minutes, and that really takes me out of the game. I propose that a given character who receives more than a quarter of his or her hit points in healing in a day is fatigued, and anyone who receives more than half is exhausted. This fatigue/exhaustion can't be magically removed.
What do you all think?
Akiros Ismort |
I think you're proposals make perfect sense Issac, well done.
Will post Akiros's next move today if I can manage it, want to give the death of a founder due respect and not rush it

I agree with the spirit of what you are suggesting (it was like when I had to house-rule 2nd Edition Stoneskin). I think I would tone down the curing thresholds a bit, though I like the application of fatigue and exhaustion as concepts.
If you took Verik's current hp's to this ruling, it would mean that he'd take a fatigued condition at a 7hp dmg hit, which could be all too common.
If hit points are more about skill to lessen or avoid a fatal blow and less on how much physical damage is taken to the body, it might be better to apply 'fatigued' at under 25% of max hit points, and 'exhausted' whenever reduced to negative hit points (kind of like the 2nd edition old "Death's Door" rule). That might be easier to understand and calculate as well, but keeps the principle intact of "you can't be mostly dead and then all fine again" after a quick set of cure casts. That's my 2cp on the subject there.
Steven T. Helt RPG Superstar 2013 |
Actually, I am usually loathe to tinker with spells like that. I'd say trust us to roleplay being crapped out after a hard day, or suitably careless during rages. Fatiguing players who are blessed by their healing God makes less sense - can your god heal or not? And I don't think haste is broken. You are more than capable of zoofing us at will, and if you need to fudge the occasional damage roll because we get a leg up early some combats, I'd say that's preferable to tinkering with mechanics.
Not that I'm a purist. Back in 3.5e, I'd drop an experience cost on half of the Spell Compendium if I felt I couldn't challenge players. Lookin' at you, fortunate fate. Screw you.
Now, all that said, you know I dig how you play and I'll be playing regardless of your decisions.
I didn't mean to get lost the last couple of days. I was exepcting a reply from jemini and we moved on to the next day. The Stag will move the football here in a few moments.

I'm 100% behind the change of haste - which I also think is overpowered. The way I was tinkering with balancing the spell in my home game was have the level 3 version of the spell last 1 round; and have a level 5 version that acts as the classic spell.
Another variant: split the benefits, haste attack grants an additional attack (no other benefits); haste bodies grants bonus speed, reflex, attack and AC bonus.
1 target per 3 caster level is a nice balance, I could entirely accept that.
I share the concerns with the 25% and 50% curing. The values, particularly at lower levels, is pretty easy to breach. On the other hand - Kingmaker lends itself to a 1-encounter-a-day, so it wouldn't matter much.
I'd definitely allow magic to overcome the conditions though, so a lesser restore should be able to lift the fatigue at least. A full restore should lift the exhaustion.

Just realized I never finished Nikolai's skills. Hopefully you'll accept he'll max his ranks in Perception as a ranger. Also...do we have anyone besides me that can track this missing friend? I am not caught up enough on where we are to have tried, but I'm happy to roll or try when we get our bearings.
Akiros Ismort |
Sorry again for the delay. A good friend with two young daughters has been having a particularly tough time involving her abusive ex and custody of their youngest daughter. She's needed a lot of help the past few days and so I haven't really been home. Hoping to get some home time tonight or tomorrow

As I see it, Akiros should have an AC of 17 against the hag rather than 19. 21 as normal, minus 2 for the charge, minus 2 for Cleave. Keep in mind that he only get +2 to hit and AC against the target of his challenge when his target is also targeting him with a challenge/smite/quarry/etc. I think you've been factoring a +2 to hit on his attacks against the hag, which he should not be getting. I'm not going to go back and retcon her to have higher hit points, but make sure to account for it properly next time.
Ah, ok, sorry about that, I see now how Samurai Challenge and Ronin's Challenge are two different things but I was combining them into one. I guess I missed the 'fine print' when reading over the ability. Seems rather weakened this way to me though. I mean, how often will Akiros be getting challenged, quarried or smote? Ah well it is what it is.

Woot new page! Just in case you missed it and didn't add this to your inventory, don't forget the crafted items back on page 1 here
After considering it further, I believe I will have Verik learn the ways of crafting wands for his 5th Feat, as he can make wands that can be used by himself, Taisper and Jemini. I like the idea of scrolls for Verik but feats don't grow on trees :)
Since we have Khaladon and Steven with us now, there was an earlier discussion about which players actually enjoyed going through the Kingmaker monthly choices and selections (hex claiming and development, building development, edicts, army creation, etc.) as the months pass. Many are not interested, though Sigz and I both were and I'm attempting to keep up with the mechanics via spreadsheet at home. If you like the Kingmaker building aspects please say so and perhaps we can solidify how we want to do that going forward, though we have time as it looks like we're set through the next month of Desnus - we'll have to retcon a leadership change event though with Corwin's passing next month.
EDIT: Oh and Khaladon nice job on pressing the fight to that Hag - that's a tough break on watching 'Mrianne' get away from the cellar while finishing off the hag herself.
