Yay!! I did actually learn how to use RSS, just so I wouldn't miss it if you guys started back up again. Just like I said I would. :)
I've been following the conversation, and I like Rica, and I'd love to see her and Acid come back. But I'm not optimistic. If you're interested, I have an orphaned character who could use a game -- and I really like yours.
I could easily rebuild Ghazwan Khazim as an ifrit sorcerer of the Celestial bloodline, and an immigrant from exotic Qadira. He didn't run into the others during the riot, because he was running around with a wet bandanna tied on his face -- to keep out the smoke while he rescued people from burning buildings. (He played with fire a lot as a kid, and so he knew that even ifrit need to breathe.)
If that doesn't appeal, I'm flexible. And I can always come up with more ideas. Maybe you don't even care about having an arcanist, and an urban druid could reinforce your strengths in melee and divine casting. Whatever. Whether as a spectator or player, I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next. :)

Yes. I know Korvosa fairly well and I have an idea for a gnome wizard from Theumanexus College, but I'll be honest: seeing this game going again, I'm reminded of how stellar it is, and I'm not sure that I could meet the standards of writing that the other players are setting. I'll flesh her out anyway, but still. It's kind of intimidating.

Unfortunately, my nascent fears have been confirmed. After taking a closer look at the recruitment thread and starting to re-read the game to get a better idea of how to make my character, I can tell that it's not a good fit right now. I've never written in the narrative style that makes it so much fun to read; and I could learn, but I would be slow, and so then I wouldn't be able to keep up with all of my games on workdays.
I really appreciate that you would even consider me a possibility after DM'ing me before. ;) It was awesome to think that I might actually have a chance to play in one of my favorite games, but I think that it's better for me to be realistic now rather than later. /bows

I am reading the Guide to Korvosa to remember the dynamics of the major families, and I noticed an interesting fact. Alejandro and Lucadeno are actually related - the daughter of Waydrin Endrin married into House Jeggare about 300 years ago. That would make them x-cousins, where X is the number of generations since that split.

I'm so sorry I was all 'hi!' and then disappeared again. There was a death in the family and I had some of my medical stuff flare up, and I couldn't easily handle both at once. I'm seeing my doctor today, so I should know today whether or not the medical stuff will continue to be an issue or not, so I'll probably be posting tonight, or asking more about how much the pace has slowed down or sped up to make sure I can keep up in case of bad case health stuff.
I might be having some surgery on the 20th regardless, so for that day and a day or two after, I might be too woozy to post. Again, sorry for the...sudden quietness and blarg.

Just a head's up, I've been unable to catch up on my online PbPs for a little bit. Once this week is up, I should have some more time to devote to posting, but I wanted to let you know that I do not intend to disappear for good. I just have a massive deadline coming up at work and have been working even over the weekend.

Senjin stamps his foot and makes several warding hand gestures.
His exposure to true magics have been limited, up until he was the beneficiary of healing and blessings of his new companions. But where those provided comfort, this display was very unsettling. What spirits laid hold of her and what is their intent with us?
"Don't care a bit for that last bit. It hard enough fighting the living...let's leave the dead out of it."
They might be allegorical ghosts.
Or real ghosts.

I know...I had him take that quite literally...but after what Senjin just witnessed with the wind and the eyes rolling back, he is not ready to believe that the allegorical ghosts are more of a threat.....if he even knew what an allegorical ghost was. ;-)

Senjin, no worries at all. That's the beauty of conveying a character's emotional state through description of action and demeanor, instead of just telling what he's thinking and feeling. It allows for reasonable and natural misinterpretations that makes everything all that much more real.
Elrith counters young Senjin's proposal, Senjin withdraws and looks unsure, so Elrith speaks up to assure the young man that she wasn't rebuking his ideas (probably one of the first times in this game that Elrith has shown a concern for anybody else's feelings, which is contrary to her standard persona), except he wasn't thinking that at all, but was showing a different vulnerability. Probably the most satisfying role-playing moment I've had in a game in ages. Aaron Sorkin couldn't have written it better, so thanks to you, too.

Sorry I've been absent as well. Work has been crazy! I'm actually going on vacation next week, so I won't be able to post at all during that time. Hopefully I'll be back and well-rested enough to jump right back in with time to create some more substantial posts.
Until then, feel free to DMPC Alistair.

Sure. Between part of Arael's purse and the gold on the nobles, each of them will have an additional 60gp. If you all took and sold the masterwork swords and daggers off the nobles, it would be much higher (about 500gp each). These weapons are reasonably recognizable, so selling them might put you all at risk of discovery unless you take precautions.

I've been rather derelict in my DM duties this week. Sorry! At least I finished my summer session - all I have left for my Master's is the tiny matter of doing a thesis.
I am buying a house, and all the craziness that such a purchase entails. This may continue to press upon my time for a few weeks. I was supposed to close on Friday, but they had to push it back. Hopefully I will close on this Friday and move over the weekend.

I really hate to do this now that this game started back up, but I'm going to have to take leave from PbP indefinitely. I was recently promoted, and as work is where I did most of my posting, I just don't have time any more. Not to mention, it isn't the most ethical thing to do at work anyway.
I had fun while it lasted though. I hope I'm not throwing a wrench into things by leaving. Take care everyone!

That's too bad, Alistair, but RL always takes precedence. Good luck with the promotion.
And congrats on the house, GM! Take your time, and Elrith and I'll be here when you're ready to continue again.

If I may be so bold, I should think that bringing in 'fresh blood', so to speak, either in the form of new players taking over existing characters or in the form of new players bringing their own characters, should be a relative walk in the park. Certainly, as far as I can tell, people seem to be rather interested in getting in one of this particular DM's games, so even the old-fashioned way of opening up a new recruitment thread should bear fruit relatively quickly. And then there is always the option of having the players already in the game ask some of the people they game with in other PbPs.
Well, my two coppers anyway...
