DM Barcas - Kingmaker of Korvosa (Inactive)

Game Master Isaac Duplechain

When the King of Korvosa dies, the city plunges into chaos. Who will emerge from the ashes as ruler of the city, or will Korvosa tear itself apart before anyone can rise to the occasion?

Either would be okay with me, DM. If you don't feel like going through the recruiting process, adopting a player your know is reliable wouldn't be a problem for me.

I'm in!

I just have to get back in the habit of checking the boards!

Hooray!!

Yay!! I did actually learn how to use RSS, just so I wouldn't miss it if you guys started back up again. Just like I said I would. :)

I've been following the conversation, and I like Rica, and I'd love to see her and Acid come back. But I'm not optimistic. If you're interested, I have an orphaned character who could use a game -- and I really like yours.

I could easily rebuild Ghazwan Khazim as an ifrit sorcerer of the Celestial bloodline, and an immigrant from exotic Qadira. He didn't run into the others during the riot, because he was running around with a wet bandanna tied on his face -- to keep out the smoke while he rescued people from burning buildings. (He played with fire a lot as a kid, and so he knew that even ifrit need to breathe.)

If that doesn't appeal, I'm flexible. And I can always come up with more ideas. Maybe you don't even care about having an arcanist, and an urban druid could reinforce your strengths in melee and divine casting. Whatever. Whether as a spectator or player, I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next. :)

Welcome back Luca!

Frederick, you seem the eternal bridesmaid. I hope you are currently in a couple games, in addition to the intensive spectating that I see you do.

Working on Senjin's reboot. Will have it up tomorrow...it's too late to finish it properly.

Yes, I'm in four. But I have a lot of time on the weekends, which is better for catching up with reading games than playing them. :( I'm careful to limit my characters to what I can actually write during the week.

Tell me more about Ghazwam. I'm not wildly feeling him so far, as he is a little unusual compared to the grounded-in-the-city vibe I have going so far, but I could be convinced otherwise.

If you have other ideas, we could explore them as well.

Okay! I'm back in business! Lets get cracking!

I spent all last night re-reading. Some good highs and lows. I will have my post up soon.

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

I've been reading too. I hope to have a post tomorrow or the day after. Work has been a little busy.

AC 17, T 14, FF 13; F +1, R +6, W +1 (+3 vs enchantments); Max HP: 10, Current HP: 10

Post is up. Damn, but I've missed this game. So completely stoked to get it going again!

Fredrik, any ideas about Ghazwam or any other character?

Yes. I know Korvosa fairly well and I have an idea for a gnome wizard from Theumanexus College, but I'll be honest: seeing this game going again, I'm reminded of how stellar it is, and I'm not sure that I could meet the standards of writing that the other players are setting. I'll flesh her out anyway, but still. It's kind of intimidating.

Unfortunately, my nascent fears have been confirmed. After taking a closer look at the recruitment thread and starting to re-read the game to get a better idea of how to make my character, I can tell that it's not a good fit right now. I've never written in the narrative style that makes it so much fun to read; and I could learn, but I would be slow, and so then I wouldn't be able to keep up with all of my games on workdays.

I really appreciate that you would even consider me a possibility after DM'ing me before. ;) It was awesome to think that I might actually have a chance to play in one of my favorite games, but I think that it's better for me to be realistic now rather than later. /bows

It's cool. If you have a good idea and want a spot, just let me know and we'll try to work something out.

Sent DM Barcas a message back with my current schedule and such so he can decide whether or not he wants to take me back or try to get another player. I'm good with either though, honestly. I'm just happy to see this story continue, so I'll be reading along either way. :)

Good to see you, either way!

As I said in my email and PM, I'm more than happy to have you back. Let's get this story on the road!

Metaphorically speaking, of course. You're still in Korvosa.

I am reading the Guide to Korvosa to remember the dynamics of the major families, and I noticed an interesting fact. Alejandro and Lucadeno are actually related - the daughter of Waydrin Endrin married into House Jeggare about 300 years ago. That would make them x-cousins, where X is the number of generations since that split.

Heh. Awesome! I'd forgotten that link. Must re-read the book myself.

I'm so sorry I was all 'hi!' and then disappeared again. There was a death in the family and I had some of my medical stuff flare up, and I couldn't easily handle both at once. I'm seeing my doctor today, so I should know today whether or not the medical stuff will continue to be an issue or not, so I'll probably be posting tonight, or asking more about how much the pace has slowed down or sped up to make sure I can keep up in case of bad case health stuff.

I might be having some surgery on the 20th regardless, so for that day and a day or two after, I might be too woozy to post. Again, sorry for the...sudden quietness and blarg.

I understand. Don't worry about it. We'll make it work one way or another.

Hope your okay and that everything works out well.

Just some cool pictures I found. I'm pretty sure I've shown the first one before, but it's still a good picture.

So Arael is going to suggest pseudonyms for everyone, to minimize the risk of discovery. Alejandro and Rica are the only ones who don't have something, and Alistair might not want to go by Amycus just yet.

Yikes. Talk about a case of exhaustion. I've been overworking myself pretty badly, but it should be somewhat stable again towards the middle or end of July.

I sent Rica a message hoping to find out if she'll be back.

I am coming out of a rough period and should be around a bit more than I have been the last month.

Working hard on a paper for my Homicide Investigation class. I have not forgotten you guys.

Just came off my pain meds so I should be around and posting today (if I can get caught up) or tomorrow (if not), that is, of course, if I -can- get caught up at all. If I've missed too much, I completely understand. Either way, I'll be around more. :)

Awesome! Glad to have you back!

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

Just a head's up, I've been unable to catch up on my online PbPs for a little bit. Once this week is up, I should have some more time to devote to posting, but I wanted to let you know that I do not intend to disappear for good. I just have a massive deadline coming up at work and have been working even over the weekend.

Again, not a problem. We probably will still be slowed down for a little while.

They might be allegorical ghosts.

Or real ghosts.

I know...I had him take that quite literally...but after what Senjin just witnessed with the wind and the eyes rolling back, he is not ready to believe that the allegorical ghosts are more of a threat.....if he even knew what an allegorical ghost was. ;-)

AC 17, T 14, FF 13; F +1, R +6, W +1 (+3 vs enchantments); Max HP: 10, Current HP: 10

Senjin, no worries at all. That's the beauty of conveying a character's emotional state through description of action and demeanor, instead of just telling what he's thinking and feeling. It allows for reasonable and natural misinterpretations that makes everything all that much more real.

Elrith counters young Senjin's proposal, Senjin withdraws and looks unsure, so Elrith speaks up to assure the young man that she wasn't rebuking his ideas (probably one of the first times in this game that Elrith has shown a concern for anybody else's feelings, which is contrary to her standard persona), except he wasn't thinking that at all, but was showing a different vulnerability. Probably the most satisfying role-playing moment I've had in a game in ages. Aaron Sorkin couldn't have written it better, so thanks to you, too.

Sorry that I've been so absent, guys. I have been working a particularly difficult case, which combined with my other requirements... It's been a tough few weeks, and I've got a few more tough weeks ahead of me... But I will make it through!

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

Sorry I've been absent as well. Work has been crazy! I'm actually going on vacation next week, so I won't be able to post at all during that time. Hopefully I'll be back and well-rested enough to jump right back in with time to create some more substantial posts.

Until then, feel free to DMPC Alistair.

AC 17, T 14, FF 13; F +1, R +6, W +1 (+3 vs enchantments); Max HP: 10, Current HP: 10

We're we able to pick up any coins from the bodies of the nobles we fought in Old Kirvosa? It would be nice for Elrith to have more than four gold pieces.

Sure. Between part of Arael's purse and the gold on the nobles, each of them will have an additional 60gp. If you all took and sold the masterwork swords and daggers off the nobles, it would be much higher (about 500gp each). These weapons are reasonably recognizable, so selling them might put you all at risk of discovery unless you take precautions.

AC 17, T 14, FF 13; F +1, R +6, W +1 (+3 vs enchantments); Max HP: 10, Current HP: 10

Elrith would like the masterwork long sword from the noble whose house she's stolen. Masterwork dagger, too.

I've been rather derelict in my DM duties this week. Sorry! At least I finished my summer session - all I have left for my Master's is the tiny matter of doing a thesis.

I am buying a house, and all the craziness that such a purchase entails. This may continue to press upon my time for a few weeks. I was supposed to close on Friday, but they had to push it back. Hopefully I will close on this Friday and move over the weekend.

Male Human (Chelaxian/Varisian) Inquisitor (Preacher) 1

I really hate to do this now that this game started back up, but I'm going to have to take leave from PbP indefinitely. I was recently promoted, and as work is where I did most of my posting, I just don't have time any more. Not to mention, it isn't the most ethical thing to do at work anyway.

I had fun while it lasted though. I hope I'm not throwing a wrench into things by leaving. Take care everyone!

Bought a house! Moving today. Will be MIA for a little while.

Take care!

That's too bad, Alistair, but RL always takes precedence. Good luck with the promotion.

And congrats on the house, GM! Take your time, and Elrith and I'll be here when you're ready to continue again.

So, guys, we need to make a decision. We haven't been able to match any sort of pace that we used to have, and we're down two players now. I'd like to continue in some fashion, but it's seeming increasingly difficult to me.

I would love to continue if you have it in you. Definitely need some new blood to replace Rica and Alistair and that might help invigorate the posting by getting two eager participants.

Male Human

If I may be so bold, I should think that bringing in 'fresh blood', so to speak, either in the form of new players taking over existing characters or in the form of new players bringing their own characters, should be a relative walk in the park. Certainly, as far as I can tell, people seem to be rather interested in getting in one of this particular DM's games, so even the old-fashioned way of opening up a new recruitment thread should bear fruit relatively quickly. And then there is always the option of having the players already in the game ask some of the people they game with in other PbPs.

Well, my two coppers anyway...

I meant to get back to you via PM, but didn't get around to it.

I'm thinking of having an in-game event allowing all who want to stay to make their interest known, then giving s hook with which to recruit more. What say yall?
