Terribly tiresome and utterly lacking in gorgeous sorceressess, my dear., the knight responds, hugging his bride and kissing her hair.

But we managed to hold in place the last of the thatch roofs. We can finally start on the wedding now we don't fear rain falling on our guests' aristocratic heads.

Hmn, it reminds me of Cambyl. He had one like that, I believe. Bronwyn takes the cup and analyzes the object. Not the same, though. Seems as good as motto as any, better than most. Less haughty than those I've heard up north in Brevoy.

A flood of relieve comes over Zorestar face as a warm smile spreads wide. "You really do love being with me?" Zorestar asks incredulously.

Alicia wrote:
"I have wanted to tell you for some time, but I was uncertain as you had no problem giving me my space. Last man who acted so kind to me...well. He preferred the company of other men."

"Well, you can certainly rest assured that I much prefer your company to that of other men! However, I guess I just wanted to make sure that you were comfortable with me! I confess that I have never had anyone ever take an interest in me as you have. I also admit that most females find me rather strange and eccentric. I just can't really believe that you would be interested in somebody like me! However, to know that you do, fills me with a great joy that I can hardly describe with words!"

Zorestar simply gazes back with a happy expression on his face, but is unclear what to do next. All he can do is beam with joy!

Anyone else checking the discussion thread? Discussing what building the group wants to build next. So far we have a few votes.

Alicia smiles, lost in the moment, waiting for him to do something, but instead he just talks and she then presses her lips against his. As she pulls back she puts a finger to his lips.
"Please, talk a lettle less." she says in a playful way.

DM Aron:

While the boys are off riding horses and doing manly things, Carina continues to move throughout the settlers helping them with their work when she can and keeping up morale. She is also working with many of the women of the group to plan a sort of surprise celebration for both the wedding and the founding of Vertaria. To help with the construction, she uses her ability to burn brush and other impediments to the work of the laborers. Also when something large or difficult appears, she will use her Enlarge Person to grow the workers making the movement of large stones and trees much simpler.

As the days approach, she continues to be as secretive as she can in the preparations for the wedding, party and grand celebration. She talks with the hunters and requests that they find the largest stags and boars for a great roast and makes sure that Svetlana has plenty of moon radishes to make her famous soup.

_______________

I know that Month 2 is already rolled, but I suppose we need a bit of a party here.

_______________

As the month of Sarenith comes to a close, the settlers begins to see the former Stag Lord's Fort begin to morph and grow into a fine castle sitting but a short distance back from the shore of the Tuskwater and the mouth of the Shrike River. Around this a small village is being formed and already there are rumors that a skilled blacksmith has come south from Restov to ply his trade. But what is most anticipated is that on the first day of Erastus in the courtyard of the new castle, Baron Bronwyn is to be wed to his beloved Carina under the watchful eye of Erastil, the patron of Vertaria. At the same time a grand celebration shall be held to thank all the settlers for their hard work and sacrifice in helping to create the new nation. Invitations have been sent to the nobles across the northlands and some such as the noble Lord Varn have agreed to bear witness to this celebration.

As the days draw near, you can see Carina becoming more and more worried as she tries to make sure that everything will be perfect for the wedding. She helps the girls pick spring flowers still in bloom and also makes sure that all the workmen are able to finish the castle on time so that the wedding is not held up or done in a half finished castle.

Delilah continues to try and get time talking with Jameson, wanting to learn about the valiant Cavalier. Due to they're last talk, she's avoided asking about his brother for the obvious reasons. She also mentions how she heard about Jameson being the one who delt the final blow that killed Tuskgutter.

He spends time with her taking walks by the lake, having picnics, playing Sjakk, or simply listening to her practice her harp. Zorestar enjoys her fondly, but still remains a gentleman.

One day, while visiting with Bron and Carina, he says, "You should really consider having Alicia play harp for your wedding. I don't mean to tell you what to do, but she really is quite talented and I am certain she would do a wonderful job for the ceremony. You should hear her Air and Variations in D. I was thinking that it would make a wonderful piece for the prelude of the service."

Carina listens as Zorestar speaks: This is a land of nature. I know little of music and culture. But, I have heard Alicia play her harp to entertain the workers after a long day. "Very well, Carina. I will speak to her, but I must ask you to let her play what she is most called to perform. Something that comes from her heart is always much better than any request you make. However, that being said, I will pass on your thoughts about celebrating nature."

"On another note, I would really like to see that a school gets started here in the capital and that the people are able to take advantage of the education that we can offer in this land. I am happy to teach some of the classes in mathematics and arcane arts, but we really should begin calling in sages, loremasters, professors and other instructors that can offer assistance in a wide variety of topics and subjects. I wish to send word to Vortexarium and speak with some of my former colleagues and request their assistance in this matter. I humbly request that you give me the financial assistance that I need in this matter."

Male Human Bard 4

Bronwyn doesn't resist the temptation.

The best songs do come from the heart, Zorestar. On an unrelated note, how fares your relationship with Alicia? Should me and Lord Varn be discussing heritage matters?

Female Changling(Hulking) Sorcerer - Orc Bloodline/5 - HP: 12/28; AC16,T14,FF13

We will listen to her, if she plays as she has on the occasions I have heard her, I am sure that Alicia will have some beautiful music for the wedding.
_____________

Regarding your interest in advancing the learning in the nation, I agree that it will be vital to the survival in this northern land. I will speak with Bron, but I doubt that a school of higher learning will be something that we can afford in the next few months. Perhaps we could build a library where the children and servants of the land will be able to increase their knowledge would be affordable soon.

At present, I think that the plan is to focus on those projects that will allow us to defend the nation against attacks which are likely at some point in this wild land, with projects that will increase our economy. As you know, we first replaced the eyesore that was the Stag Lord's Fort with this beautiful castle which will serve as a center of government and a place to welcome dignitaries from other lands, and is also a place where the settlers can retreat to should some fell force seek to attack us before other defenses have been prepared.

At present, I believe that for the next few months, the plan is to build a smithy for the skilled blacksmith who recently joined us. Also, while perhaps not my choice, I believe that there needs to be a place to entertain the good folk who are here. You may have noticed that many young men have joined us to lend their strong arms in James' guards and to work in the fields. Unless you wish for crime to increase, these men need a place to enjoy the fruits of their labors. Thus, I believe the men, without my full support, have commissioned a house of ill repute to be constructed. I am making sure that this will be as far as possible from the castle, but I am sure it will not be far enough for my liking.

Next up will be a town hall which will give us a place to move the more administrative functions of government. It will also hopefully have space for you to teach some courses should you wish. After the town hall, James has said that we need a place to care for his horse guards, so I believe we will be constructing a Stable and possible a barracks. Then, perhaps five or six months from now, I would think that a library could be in the works. I would like to see it earlier, but leaving our workers disgruntled and our defenses unprepared is not something I am willing to do at this point.

At present, I believe the plan is:
Month 2 - Smithy
Month 3 - Brothel
Month 4 - Town Hall
Month 5 - Stable
______
Month 6 - Library (perhaps?)

Obviously this is very dependent on how many BP we have. I think that we should slow down the acquisition of more hexes for the time being. Also, we might want to slow down buildings somewhat. We are making 6-8BP/month and have very little costs right now, so if we were to wait 2-4 months without building anything, we could get one of the big items like a Guildhall or Theatre or Market. The guildhall is nice as it halves the cost of the Stable and Tradesman and Pier

Calm down Zorestar. I myself don't care for the idea, but we had around two hundred workers that came down from their lands in the north to work in the castle and in the construction of the town. And we have about a dozen single women coming down south. Most women came with their families and their husbands. To whoever is at the meeting, (even vagrant hermits living in holes in the ground):
We have built a castle which is the centerpiece of this great land and the center of our government. As you know a smithy is underworks to supply the equipment necessary to build this land and the arms to help Ganit and James defend it. The question is what to build next. While I understand the concern many of you have, I feel that an establishment such as a brothel is a necessary evil. Without it, the single men, and likely some married, with have to find other ways to satisfy their needs. Carina stares from male face to male face. And we all know that men have needs.

If we do not build such an establishment, then we are likely to have these same women plying their trade on the streets which I view as inviting crimes. If it is done in an establishment sanctioned by us, then this should greatly diminish the warden and guards from having to arrest people for the rapes, muggings and murders which are likely to occur without it.

To put this another way, I would like any of you to find a single major city on Golarian that does not have such establishments. Even in the most lawful of nations I am sure such places exist, and they exist for a reason.

Now then, we need not build this immediately, but I imagine that a failure to do so soon is likely to lead to more problems than the business is likely to create. If you all vote in a majority to favor not condoning this business and would prefer a mill or brewery or similar establishment, then I have no problem with that. Carina turns and looks at James, Ganit and the others. But, do not come crying to me when we have to build a second jail to hold the young men who should be in your guard because of a night of excess drinking that ended up in a rape or a murder instead of in the brothel.

Carina then sits back and crosses her arms waiting for the men to respond.

"Settle down? Yes I suppose I will. A corner in the barracks, I will be able to supervise the men and see to the horses easily there. Thank you for the suggestion Delilah!"

"Your argument is flawed by it's very nature. You suggest men's base instinct will lead to unwanted attention while allowing such behavior to flourish with your laws and tacit approval by building a state funded brothel. You call us pigs and threaten to burn us with one breath while steadfastly maintaining we should build a house whose only purpose is to cater to that lesser nature."

"We are a nation of people. These people will need laws to guide them, and any person, man or woman, who forces themselves upon another shall be hung until dead and buried in an unmarked grave for the carrion eaters to find. Anyone who doesn't want to follow our laws is welcome to leave and go back to the city they came from."

"Building such an establishment by claiming it is inevitable is a house built on horse apples. If such an establishment does find root in our community then we shall tax them and regulate them as any other. But I do not, and will never, think the state should condone such activity. Even if I were to concede that human nature made it inevitable then you have undermined the very family values we seek to promote. Why marry Sir Raslov if you hold commitment to one person so lightly? And where is your orphanage to care for the unwanted children such a place would produce? Or perhaps Jhod can set up a temple to Erastil instead of an orphanage? Surely Zorestar must know a spell or concoction to help."

Jameson stands and prepares to leave.

"I have spoken my peace and will say no more on this matter. I go to patrol the northern lands, do as you will."

"Calm down Zorestar. I myself don't care for the idea, but we had around two hundred workers that came down from their lands in the north to work in the castle and in the construction of the town. And we have about a dozen single women coming down south. Most women came with their families and their husbands. It was either that or be facing several potential fights for the few unwed women in town or even attacks on their *ahem* purity. If you would suggest another course of action I'm willing to hear."

"Well . . . " Zorestar says as he leans back in his chair and strokes his beard. "We need not have a culture that focuses entirely on carnal gratification. Would you consider a public house for the performing of music, the reciting of poetry, and a library for reading and learning. If you feed the mind, people will not be so desperate to satisfy their carnal appetites. Besides, physical relationships without the emotional commitment nearly always lead to disastrous results. I mean, we are more than savage animals that run around following instinct. We are much nobler creature with reason and thought and I believe we should optimize such resources and minimize the rest. Would this not make sense in creating a rich culture of learning and prosperity?!"

"If we do not build such an establishment, then we are likely to have these same women plying their trade on the streets which I view as inviting crimes. If it is done in an establishment sanctioned by us, then this should greatly diminish the warden and guards from having to arrest people for the rapes, muggings and murders which are likely to occur without it."

"Carina, the only reason these people are on the streets is that they have not had the exposure they need to practice and appreciate art, culture, and learning. Let us get right to the heart of the problem and solve it from the start. It all begins with education! Without it, our problems will only grow worse!"

"Thank you, Jameson! At last we someone who is speaking some sense! Thank you for your well spoken words!"

After the discussion, Bronwyn approaches Zorestar.

You know your words really well, Zores. Have your tried your hand at a poem? Poetry is... pure arithmetics, my friend. Just as there are many kinds of different equations and they all follow particular rules, there are many sorts of poems, each with their own metric and rhythm. Instead of numbers and variables you use verbs, nouns and adverbs, all which I'm sure you know plenty. It is about not only saying what you mean to say, but doing so following specific rules to agregate an aesthetical value to the message, lifting it from the mundane and unto the sublime.

"Hmm? I like this idea! I have heard that poetry is a mostly mathematics and rhyme. I suppose this is very similar to music. Hmm?" Zorestar considers as he strokes his beard. "Tell me, Bron, what are the arithmetic rules that I need to follow to create a love poem? I presume I must use an appropriate number of syllables arranged in a correct order. This sounds like a very exciting challenge to embark upon."

Bronwyn spends some hours per week teaching Zorestar about metric and rhyming schemes, happy to be able to teach the knowledgeable man something in return.

Aron, can we get to or through the wedding day?

Agreed. Also, when are we supposed to venture to the hexes to the south? It seems like we can easily make day ventures to the hexes around Evergreen which we definitely want to clear of dangers like boggards and tatzlewyrms and grumpy hermit druids.

"I don't know of a better person in my life." she points out as she crosses her arms "You have been through hell, but you remain strong, taking out bandits instead of joining them. You are better than you believe or do you really think you are the same as the Stag Lord? A drunk who uses his gift with the bow to spread terror and drink himself into a stupor? Ganit, you have a good heart you just have to open it up and take a risk instead of seeing yourself as some kind of monster. That's not how I see you at all." as she says this she wraps her arms around him tightly, burying her head into his shoulder.

Sure you can get on with the wedding whenever you like. I'm leaving the roleplaying up to you. Also for the moment you won't be exploring further south till the swordlords send the next charter. The current charter means you own the land you have discovered so far, plus you'll most likely want the kingdom to be strong and stable so that when you go adventuring you don't have riots to over-throw you nor be destroyed by roving bands of brigands, thieves and what else might wish to level your city to the ground.
