Summoning monsters for silly suicidal reasons is one of the best things about being a caster. I remember a time using a summon spell to get something like 1d4+1 dire wolves and having them trip and grapple a bunch of people while I did transmute rock to mud. I made the mud as deep as it would go, in 3.5 it was something like 10 feet. Next turn, wall of force to cover up the mud pit. No save, just a bunch of dead things stuck in the floor after a while.

Zayne - Didn't mean to offend. I thought winky faces portrayed sarcasm. Then again, it could be a last resort. Go out in a blaze of glory? ;) <3

EDIT:
Gross, that heart icon looks a lot better on my phone...

Only reason for Drakor to sacrifice himself would be as a last line of defense while we run away as fast as we can.

Would Drakor be up for that, Zayne?

Other summons can easily be bait and stuff, but they don't stick around long enough to hold the line as it were.

Male Half-elf Summoner 1

im not so much into that, but i cant summon anything while Drakor is out anyways. now one of his mutations im taking at much later levels is "Immunity to Fire" due to where he's from, the plane of Fire, but thats just part of his character.

In fact, Drakor's answer to any question asking him to blow himself up is "Bad human idea" and then smooshing the offender lol. thats just how the character is. now if Zayne told him to hold them here while we retreat, then yeah actually he would stay and fight, and mostly likely do some significant damage before they killed him.

All of the summoners spells go into enchanting and buffing, thus u guys will probably see Zayne doing a lot of buffing magic on either Drakor, primarily, and anyone else who could need it.

Male Human Fighter (Armor Master) 4

There ya go - now its not a suicide mission if he is laoded up with a necklace of fireballs, since he will be immune to fire.

Lol, great story Ganit. I always love hearing about creative uses of spells. It really goes to show you how powerful casters can be. I always wonder why I'm playing a martial character when I decide to take that route. I guess I am just a sucker for the romantic notion of relying on mundane strengths to overcome challenges. There's just something missing in a character that can blow stuff up with some words and a point of his finger - always reminds me of the bad guy. (As opposed to the knight in shining armor who gets torn up by spells and still manages to overcome with sheer force of will and strength.)

Male Half-elf Summoner 1

actually its still not going to happen. drakor can still take damage (force of explosion) from fireballs erupting all around him. im not taking the evolution to make a kamikaze Carnivean, im taking it as part of his character. if u want zayne to try and cast Fire Immunity on Swane and then U give it a shot, be my guest XD

Thanks Lukan, I know what you mean. I thought about applying with a magus but then decided to go ranger for some reason. That reason was most likely because I had watch Jeremiah Johnson about 3hrs before I found the thread lol. It seemed like now should be the time to play as an archer because they just gained a huge competitor for their niche. Casters are my favorite because you can do just about anything if go about it correctly.

Summoner is a neat class because you get all the summon monster spells. Depending on what we're up against in the future Zayne, you may be better off dismissing your eidolon for a while and filling the field with smaller creatures. The augment summoning feat gives your summons +4 to Str and Con so a pack of dire boar or grizzly bears not only pump out a ton of damage, they also buffer enemies from you and provide flanking for the rest of the team. So you could potentially fluff a makeshift army to fight for you while you take a few turns to re-summon you eiodolon. You also get pits and walls so you can shape the battle field to better suit us. Honestly, Drakor is hardly your greatest strength to our party if you play cleverly.

Male Half-elf Summoner 1

he's why i made Zayne in the first place so i think i'll pass on the summoning of bears or wolves. ive plotted out most of Drakor's evolutions so far and i think by the time it matters Drakor will be the most useful to me. plus Zayne rly only has a connection w Drakor

ANYWAYS! back to lighter things where should we go next?

also it takes a full minute to summon Drakor in combat.

I think we're headed back to Oleg's for a tick, then back out to explore and die and all that fun stuff. Just waiting to hear if we survived to trip back.

Zayne wrote:

10 rounds isn't that bad if you're well enough protected.

Male Half-elf Summoner 1

easy enough to say for u but what is going to last over 10 rounds that ill be able to do anything useful? anyways im droppin it, thanx for the advice ganit but i think ill just focus on Drakor. I can make him one mean sonnova dragon-monster thing with all the buffs and evolutions i can give him.

I just envisioned a extraplanar summoner drawing a humanoid forth from the material plane as his summon. "Buff me, mortal!" hehehe

Ganit, I feel sorry for you. More than 10 rounds of combat? Ouch. That'd make my brain go numb. Who is your evil GM? That would just suck as a player to wait for 10 rounds of combat to go past before you could do anything. Summons are a good fall back. Like being surprise attacked when Drakor is not summoned.

Oleg's was the plan if we could make it back before dark... Otherwise I suggested we stay put for the night (not sure if anyone disagreed with that or maybe the consensus was Oleg's no matter what?) Hopefully we will have a GM soon =)

My two biggest campaigns were run by a DM who would put combat as a secondary thing. We'd have a battle once every 2-3 sessions if we were lucky. He had our group of 3 lvl 2 PC's face off vs 3 shielded clerics and a paladin in full plate once. It was terrible. I was playing a monk/wizard gestalt and I ended up in a fight with a cleric that lasted for like 30 rounds with the two of us missing each other each time we attacked. It was the pits. He was a notoriously tough DM. He practically went out of his way to kill any tanking PC's because he thought they were useless outside of combat and he barely did combat. Needless to say I switched out to something less brainy. Unfortunately the DM I switched to after that wasn't a very good story teller so basically everything we did was hide and fight and hide and fight. Never really had a cozy middle.

Hehehe, just teasing. But really, curiousity may kill the cat.

Is it me, or did that spider seem just a bit too easy. If we have any more encounters like this, the DM is going to start adding templates to the baddies ;).

Also, if we intend to camp in the greenbelt lets make sure everyone is sufficiently prepared (with food, camping gear, etc). We may all be able to chip in and buy a big tent with cots and use one or two of the extra horses from the bandits to carry it so we can camp in style and luxury.

heh, well you weren't expecting to head straight into the biggest threats so close, were you? The game is balanced so I wouldn't be so cocky as to think things have been too easy. You havn't found the bandit camp yet or any of the many other large places ;)

Male Human Fighter (Armor Master) 4

heheh....Ruhoh, please don't mistake my geniune fear for cockyness. The fight at Oleg's could've gone either way. Just happy we got the drop on them. I always get scared when the group destroys things fairly easily. I had a DM that would take that as a sign to dramatically increase the next encounter's difficulty

I've done that once before. Fighter, "Do it I have improved will. I'll save" I cast it and he is the only one that fails his save, lol.

Ganit, as an OOC prod into your character's mind, he may want to be a bit more alert about these mercenarys' deserter. All those master-craft weapons would definitely come in handy. I'm just saying this because your character is a tracker/hunter guy and this seems like it would be a great opportunity/challenge for him. Just a thought.

I have considered it and I'm sure it would be a great test for him, but at the moment I'd say Ganit is in "Mission Mode." All of these side quests are on the back burner for the time being. If we stumble across a tatzlwyrm or fangberries or whatever we can deal with it while we're there but securing the outpost is top priority.

You guys know its like a dc 10 survival to supply enough food for everyone......also the charter says securing all the land so Ganit's obsession is kinda misplaced cause if we just go for main quest we will miss alot. unless he is just meaning around olegs which is fine but again dc 10 to provide food thought id mention it

I figured it was something simple to get food. I had planned to throw a survival check or take 10 if possible to gather berries or hunt a rabbit. I did mean around Oleg's but I'm the kind of person who runs along the borders of maps in video games so its all clear. So don't mind my OCD :)

Running around map borders was the only way to find your way around in Everquest lol. I couldn't imagine how aweful that game would be if it came out now. It wasn't user friendly in the least bit.

It is relatively simple to keep yourself fed with your own survival skill. Its a completely different thing to feed 5 other people all day long. If Ganit were to be the only one gathering food for the rest of us, I'd imagine that would slow us down considerably. We'd have to hunt for large game, and Ganit would be focused on food rather than potential enemies, traps, etc. Much less scouting the sector.

It's 5sp a day to keep Ganit from having a heart-attack trying to feed us all. I think it's worth it. Ganit would probably agree.

Ganit I sure hope your joking cause are you even thinking? I joined this game because I thought this was going to be serious roleplay with good characters and players. So correct me if im wrong in what world do you see a summoner or anyone just here ya go guys heres one of my special abilities to summon freaking dinner. Come on man.

Ive played so many games in real life where I have to deal with stupid stuff like that that im sick of it. So if you were joking I apologize and you can ignore my post. However if anyone keeps suggesting my brother uses his eidolon as a bomb dummy or summon creatures instead of his eidolon or summon monsters just to eat I swear ill freak out. It is his character so let him play it the way he wishes to play it. If this keeps up we both will leave just pisses me off when everyday I see you guys post stupid things like that so please lets just have a good game where I dont have to calm my brother down sense you guys seem to harass him and tell him how to play his character.

So to calm things down a bit please dont suggest stupid stuff like this im sure the DM doesnt appreciate the way you seem to think that a seriously good game like kingmaker is going to be determined by fire immune creature with alchy fires walks in and destroys encounter.

I'm not sure why people are suggesting silly summons, but I don't think You or Zayne need to worry about it. I never thought they were serious suggestions.

My apologies Zayne & Tholamin, I didn't mean to offend. I though the "lol's" and tongue face gave away the light hearted nature of my post. If you look carefully, that face is simultaneously winking AND sticking out it's tongue. I don't know if you've ever seen a person winking and sticking their tongue out at you but assure you that it is a legitimately silly face. I'd like to think my serious posts are distinguishable from the absurd ones.

I'll be sure to properly mark my future posts.

I was actually serious about the poison thing though...

For doses I'd say 3, just being generous and also Cambyl had some of that sticky stuff on his neck and in his system, but he obviously faught it off as none of you saw him getting weaker :p

As discussed further down I assumed they were joking. Afterall, it wouldn't make sense to use an Eidolon bomb. Summoned creature it would make sense because they don't die, just go back to their plane...however I'd hate to meet the group that did that and felt filling whatever plane with half-dead creatures wouldn't lead to repruccussions :p

Much better use for summons is to have them help the team either as a flank or a distracting. Afterall, that Ogre will have trouble dealing with the party if all of a sudden he has three eagles pecking and scratching at him. Again, good for flanking and makes rogues happy :)

I can see where he's coming from with common sense being wisdom based, however a wis score of 10 = average joe.

So basically he's saying that the average person doesn't have the mental capacity not to set his friends on fire with one of his own bombs? That's just stupid. Again, 10 is a average person's score like a random commoner in the street. He's not wise enough to make sure to check everywhere for traps in a dungeon and will most likely walk into one (had a friend with a low wis character that put on whatever magic item it found) but he's wise enough to go "An alchemist's bomb landing in that area will harm my friends. I better instead try to join in the fight." though if he had more wisdom, could aim for a square near the giant, but predicting where the blast would go so not to harm any of his companions.

The guy is clearly roleplaying a Wis score of 5 or possibly much lower. Hell even Ogres aren't that stupid and they're Ogres!

I've always enjoyed creative but utterly stupid ideas. Then again they tend to be few and far between. I would think it would probably pretty annoying too if it was a constant thing. But Tholamin and Zayne please be easy on us. We just want to have a bit of fun. I'm sorry if you felt it was at your expense. We were not aware of your sensitivities.

Pathfinder is a game and is intended to be used to have fun. Everyone should be allowed to enjoy it. Thanks for letting us know how you feel. We would never try to force anyone to do something with their character and all of our suggestions are purely rhetoric when it comes down to the absurd.

well not as bland as 3.5 :p

atleast here you get your weapon expertise so that you can become really awesome with your weapon and no warrior or barbarian can out kill you with your weapon of choice.

They are fun though and the build you've selected my friend Alex really loves with the sword and spiked shield. Plus I learnt the other day you can get a feat called shield focus or something where your bonus for shields increases by 1. There are sooo many feats for fighters.

Not to sound like im complaining too much about the said Gnome alchemist, but it amounted to that the player himself didn't care at all that he could potentially kill off other society members in a way he can't be penalized for, in fact if someone started to make too many jokes about him he seemed to make a point to throw the most bombs towards that person while engaged in combat.

also he refused to take another weapon besides his bombs so he wouldnt join the fights any other way. lolz now u see our exasperation.

I have a friend who makes gnomes his favored enemy every time he plays a ranger. Also he makes it a point to make at least one very large scale battle with gnomes when his DM shift comes around. This kid is also the person who taught me how to play the game so his prejudice has unfortunately been imprinted on me.

I say you should beat up the aforementioned alchemist and force him to make shoes for your once prestigious but now failing leather shop. It's the only reasonable thing to do. :)

Anyway, on this stupid course from the job centre so my replying will be slow this week and next week.

I couldn't remember if you had said this before or not, but what are you using to make the maps?
