DM Aron Marczylo's Curse of the Crimson Throne Part 3
(Inactive) Game Master

Vencarlo is found and the party now know where the Senachal is, but something still lurks in the shadows of the labyrinth, hunting them down relentlessly.
I rather doubt it would be the same. I am going to have to do all kinds of tweaking. The dungeons will probably remain the same. But, since my version is all in AD&D (elves have a 2 in 6 chance of seeing secret doors, everyone else 1 in 6 for instance), I will have to decide for every trap and every door what the DC for perception and disable device are. I have a version of the ToEE on the computer, but I do not recall how it goes as it is probably 10 or more years old. And since I use a Mac now and it is a PC game, I could not even try.
If the ToEE try works, there are 4 more modules that follow - Scourge of the Slave Lords (A1-4), Against the Giants (G1-3), and then the Drow series (D1-3, Q1). I have T1-4, A1-4 and G1-3. If the campaign lasts that long, I will find a way to get the Drow modules (D1-3) and the Queen of the Demonweb Pits(Q1).
If you could take screen shots of the maps from the computer game, it would be interesting seeing how closely they follow the actual modules.
It is a project for me. I will have to see what I want to change and what needs to be changed. That way even if we get some ToEE players who have played the computer game, it will still be new and different. The module actually goes from level 1-8, but finishes with you interacting with some rather nasty stuff potentially, so there will definitely have to be changes. Some of the monsters which a mid-level party in AD&D could handle would wipe out a party in PF. For instance 20-30 swarming rats could do a lot of damage in PF, whereas in AD&D most of them would not even be able to his a moderate AC.
I might search the forums to see what I can find, might speed some things up.
The GDQ series has always been one of my favorites. I remember running it in high school for my friends, and it was awesome. D3 and Q1 can get pretty sandboxy, but G123 and D12 shouldn't be too tough to go through.

Its my gf's birthday today and I expect the celebrations will continue until tomorrow. Don't be alarmed if I am a little scarce for a couple of days. Bot Curnach if necessary. Remember the dino expires very soon.

kk, it's fine and understandable. I'd be sure to tell everyone if I was in the situation. Have a great time and wish her happy birthday from me.
Absolutely. If the axe weren't across the room where he'd dropped it, I'd switch right now. Also, in Krenn's profile I flushed out his primary and secondary weapons, breaking down the bonuses for each to make any switch ups easier down the road.
Ugh. Just lost a long post, but the gist of it was I appreciate you and Alex helping speed the search of the rooms. Our dynamics as a group are well enough established that you know things like Krenn won't balk when one of the others nods to him to open a door. It keeps simple things (that would take a minute ro two at the table) from stalling out the pace of the PbP. Thanks!
A safari version (3.0, scroll down a little) is available on that page.
I fine generally people are more willing to spend ages making posts complaining about the Post Monster than downloading a quick plug in. Not even sure Aron has bothered to download it yet.
Thanks. I think that most of the time, the post monster is me clicking off the page after hitting preview more than the post monster. Usually I can get to posts by just hitting Back, and then re-posting them.
I have probably lost less than a half dozen posts in the 5000+ that I have made in the last 10 months since I started playing here.
Question for you PF gurus. I now have the Temple of Elemental Evil into a nice Word Document (actually Pages since I use a Mac). It is a mere 175 pages single spaced in 10 point font. So there is a lot to go through.
Is there information somewhere on the best way to convert monsters and traps from AD&D to PF. In AD&D for instance, you just found a door 1 in 6, 2 in 6 if you were an elf or ranger or thief, and so forth. For secret/concealed doors, I will just have to decide on Perception DCs I assume. But for traps it is a little more tricky. For instance in AD&D, 50% of the poison traps were - fail your save and die - type traps. I am just wondering if there is a good read on how to convert traps such as these to PF so that they are reasonable for a party.
I have looked over all the Trap stuff in the book and converting the mechanical/magical traps should not be that tough. It is just the poison ones that are screwy..
Finally, monsters. I only have about 250 rooms. For a lot of the monsters it is simply change the stats out - a gnoll is a gnoll. However, there are some rooms with 50 rats and stuff like this. In AD&D, this really was not a problem as the rats had such a low hit probability if one had a decent AC. But in PF, especially with crit hits, this many small monsters appears to be a tough fight, even for a medium level party if not properly equipped.
If anyone has any advice as I jump into this project, it would be appreciated.
Does anyone have an opinion (or can point me to a ruling) on whether or not the Lunge feat could be used to extend reach up?
Well the feat merely says you extend your reach, doesn't specify which direction and it makes sense you'd take the penalty if lunging forward, up or down so I'm sure it'd be fine.
Some thoughts:
Use standard DC's for secret doors...DC 20 perception check unless very well hidden.
Remember traps now have a DC and attack value, you should convert them just like monsters with Poison DC's if they hit.
Lots of rats = Ratswarm. You don't want to play out a battle with 50 rats anyways...waste of time for a battle that isn't vital to the plot.
As an FYI for all, I may be off the boards from Friday the 18th until Monday the 28th. I have attempted to download a program which allows me to tether my PC through my Iphone, but do not know whether it will work where I am going. Thus, I hope to keep up with my characters, but if I fall behind, feel free to DMPC me as necessary.

And I am still thinking about adding 1 DM to that list once I get my module pathfinderized, fallen a little behind on that as actual work keeps getting in the way.
Yeah I keep myself at a low number as I game quite a bit and do reading and job search so I need to free up some time. I got DM fatigue when taking up CC so I'm happy as I am, though I have been brainstorming a homebrew campaign.
I still want to run a Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. Gotten through converting the first part, but need to finish the second and third before I can really consider opening a recruitment thread. Considering all the applications for the S&S campaigns, I dread how many applications I will get when I do.
I am currently playing:
Dwarven Fighter, Way of the Wicked AP.
Elven Ranger/Wizard/Rogue, Rise of the Runelords AP.
Human Paladin, Kingmaker AP.
Dwarven Fighter/Ranger, Curse of the Crimson Throne AP.
Halfling Rogue, homebrew.
Human Wizard, Legacy of Fire AP.
Human Wizard, Age of Worms AP.
Elven Fighter, Jade Regent AP.
Elven Bard, Realm of the Fellnight Queen module.
Human Cleric, Council of Thieves AP.
Elven Wizard, Serpents Skull AP.
I had a self imposed cap of ten games, but then Lucendar started a homebrew campaign that started with a gladiator style winnowing of the players from more than a dozen to five. Who would have bet on the halfling rogue to make it?
As a note, I will be away from home for the next week. Should be able to post in the morning and evening, but there are no guarantees. If I miss a day and am holding something up, please have someone post for me. I doubt I will miss a day, but one never knows being in the road.
retcons will be allowed concerning traits however not feats, but feats will be allowed. I hoped there would be more traits for uncommon races like Changeling but I like the many traits Tiefling and Aasimar.
This probably won't retcon anything for most of you, except Llyra.
actually just looking at the book it does have for humans and dwarves too. Shouldbe okey, I havn't seen any of the silly stuff for races like Tieflings having bigger arms like in Council of Thieves which also found it's way into blood of fiends, though that is made more for a DM book than anything else.
This may sound like a foolish question. But how do I start a pbp campaign on Paizo? I think I am just about ready to start the recruitment thread in a few days and want to make sure I know all the stuff I can do as a DM before I get a million applications.
What I mean is do you start with a recruitment thread? Or can I create a gameplay thread or campaign thread first. Just cannot figure out how to do it and would prefer to not create something incorrectly. - Thanks

Not sure about the new system, but usually you just start with the recruitment thread, then after recruitment is done make a OOC threat (since it's a discussion thread it can be a "holding area" for the PCs to finalise their characters if need be) and then the campaign thread, atleast that's how I did itso whilst PCs are in the OOC thread I can write up the opening of the campaign thread.
Lol - I am not planning on using the real villans in this campaign as the deities and demons have all changed (gotta remember this module was initially 1980s World of Greyhawk, not 2012 Golarian). Nonetheless, it seemed fun to be the arch-nemesis of good for my title. I might change it, but it seems like fun. I will probably use the DM AKA XXXXXX like you all do, I just hate trolling through so many aliases to find the one I want. Decisions decisions, oh well, I will figure it out at some point.
As an example of how the power levels have changed here is an example of how someone converted one of the main baddies to 3.5

For some reason I think that she might be a tad more powerful than most PF level 8-9 parties can handle.
I was thinking that because the CR is indeed 32 :p also I think the only weapons that have +6 are epic so could be epic instead, though epic exsisted in 3.5 so wrong there.
I am not going to use this, it just happens to be somebody's conversion to 3.5 that I found on the web. I have decided to either use a powerful demon of some sort, or possibly create a nascent demon lord. It will be fun. Either way, even if you have some very buff high level characters, AC41 + 661 HP is a tough fight. Especially if the enemy can summon demons and fungi at will.
Will be up in Wales for a week, but I will be replying since my nan has internet access, but I'll also be busy with the family at times to I apologise ahead of time that I won't be able to reply so often nor fast.

I'll be out of contact until the very end of July, due to a trip to Kiev followed by days spent packing up the flat i'm living in here in Ukraine followed by a 3 day bus journey back. Its easier to just declare my absence now rather than try and keep up with things during this busy time. Roll on August!
If you guys want to put a temporary hold on this for the next week or two, I have no problem with that. I am probably going to start a recruitment thread to my own campaign in the middle of the week and having one less campaign to worry about while getting it started would probably not be a bad thing.
