Grau Soldado AKA DM |
You may all want to see this.... he says to the other group members after Grau leaves with Pestico in tow. To any of the others that come around to behind the counter, I am not sure what you want to do with all of this... he points towards a veritible mountain of gold, silver, and platinum within the chest, Jerin just kind of stands there in awe of that amount of gold. Open up the spoiler with my name on it...
As I said in many posts, I messed up with this, the wizard was overpowered and that wealth should equal the total of a character of that level, including the items. His Jaw will hit the floor again when he sees the xp...
Grau looks over to the group curiously.
"If you go not feel fit for aquiring his money, you could hand it over to the guards. We can hire more people to help patrol the streets and get this city back under control." he suggests meekly, not seeming greedy, but just pointing out it would help the city overall.
Grau Soldado AKA DM |
Due to the High levle of the character it would be a load of xp for him, however since he didn't actually have that many high level spells and he didn't use them then I'm going to cut his CR down. meaning you get 200 xp each for Mr. Pestico, the 3 normal dolls 265 xp, Tapestry and Aventi Doll 265 xp, Mrs. Pestico 135 xp by my counting thats 865 xp all together each. I think this is a lesson that I'll stick to the book and NEVER make another half-baked encounter in a AP.
"Very well, we will see to it that Mr. Pestico is well looked after, you have my word." as the men leave, Grau stays behind for a moment and turns to the group, looking at Tapestry. "Despite how I feel, it's best not speak against the queen at this time. The city needs to pull together and that's more important." he looks to Tapestry as he says this, but also the rest of you. He isn't giving you a telling of, but simply warning you as you would warn a friend.
Tapestry |
"Very well, we will see to it that Mr. Pestico is well looked after, you have my word."
Tapestry nods, supposing it's the best she can hope for in the circumstances.
"Despite how I feel, it's best not speak against the queen at this time. The city needs to pull together and that's more important."
Waiting until Grau has left, Tapestry leans back against the wall and sighs,
'When people warn you off speaking your mind for the sake of your own safety it can only be a sure sign of tyranny. I am liking this "job" less and less...'
Shaking her head she walks over to the chest of treasure... at which point her eyes widen slightly... but even so she says,
'Make sure to account for all of it, of all the people I'd happily rob blind, old Master Pestico isn't one of them.'
As the group are gathered, Tapestry holds her holy symbol of Calistria and bows her head in prayer to the goddess...
Can't recall how much damage people took, but I think there was some, so a healing burst: 1d6 ⇒ 2
'I guess,' the devil-woman adds, getting ready to leave the shop, 'we should go and see what her marshal-ship wants this time...'
Yup - I'm okay with scooting back to see the Marshal... if anyone still needs healing give a shout.
Grau Soldado AKA DM |
You left in the morning so I am going to suggest that it's still morning. Not as early, but it's not dark or anything
Grau nods his head to Tapestry as she says this "I will not speak ill of the dead, but the king was no saint or goodly person. he pauses for a moment then shakes his head."It seems ironic she would be the new queen, but I also pity her for being on the Crimson Throne." he looks at you all for a moment wondering if any of you know what he's talking about "Anyway I must be going. The streets need patrolling. he leaves making his way to the door not wanting to hold you up.
Curnach Daveck |
Ok...
23,050GP divided by 5= 4,610GP each.
Bracers of +3 Armour- given to Aventi.
Amulet of Natural Armour +2- claimed by Curnach.
Scroll of Dimension Door + spellbook + wand- Jerin.
Lets just go with an even split and remember that Tapestry and Krenn definitely need to have first share of the next bunch of goodies. DM Aron Curnach now has the money to buy a Headband of Wisdom +2, is he able to get that?
Curnach Daveck |
Until the trial is over (and assuming he is released...) the stuff is ours. Curnach will happily hand over any equipment he bought with his money if that happens, but it doesn't seem likely... As a powerful wizard he'll be able to sell the equipment anyway.
If you want to keep the gold back in order to return it to him (assuming he is released) or invest it on his behalf you can do that with your share- but we were given custody of his possessions as a group and Curnach will be spending his to improve his chances of being able to make a difference in this city of chaos...
Aventi D´Gaudon |
Well, Aventi will improve his skill: pimping master and goes to the streets to bring order to chaos by getting the girls out of rival gangs. I believe also there is now a chance to pay a visit in Temple of Calistra :P Never really religious sort but hey, you need to pay respect from time to time
Jerin |
Jerin will be holding onto Pestico's spellbook until the trial is over and return it to him at that time, if he is freed and doesn't die of old age or something bad happens to him in prison..you never know. "I heard screaming from the cell but when I got there he was just torn in half and nothing was in the cell" (summon monster, wow talk about getting away with crimes!). But I will be using some of the gold to copy spells and buy items and such. I am sure at later levels I can pay him back.
DM Aron Marczylo |
Woke up sick today, so going to be a bit here and there. Yes it is possible to get the item if you have the money since this city is quite wealthy. The king made sure to bring in lots of trades. So everyone is going to the marshall then. Will get the post up in a sec.
Cressida Kroft AKA DM |
As you make your way into the marshall's office you find that this time she is not alone. Sitting in one of the chairs at her desk is a handsome man who smiles as you enter.
"Glad you all made it. Let me introduce you to a old friend of mine, Vencarlo Orisini. at this he stands and bows deeply as he is introduced, giving a dazzeling smile towards Tapestry as he stands straight again. "Although Vencarlo is a bit of a critic of Korvosa's government, he has always been a great friend and trusted advisor, especially in these dark times as he has been informing me about the general temperment and moral of the citizens which has gotten better thanks to you, however-
Vencarlo Orisini is one of Korvosa's most well respected teachers of the honourable arts of fencing and swordplay.
Vencarlo Orisini AKA DM |
Vencarlo cuts her off at this.
"What my friend says here, is true. Indeed, If Korvosa had more fine folk like you, we’d already be out of this mess." looking to Tapestry he gives a wink and a smile as he steps over, taking her hand and kissing the back of it softly Especially with a woman as beautiful as you assisting them, Mad'am. Please, take my seat. as he scans the rest of the group he smiles to you all. "You are all fine warriors. It has been many years since I have stood in the presence of a mighty dwarf." he greets Krenn with a honourable bow, shaking the hands of everyone else. "Such harsh teachings monks have to follow, same for Wizards and you, young man. I bet someone like you has no problem with the ladies."
Tapestry |
As per the OOC discussion, I'm going to go ahead and assume that Pestico's gold hasn't been dealt with yet, and is sitting in the bag of holding await an in-character discussion...
Especially with a woman as beautiful as you assisting them, Mad'am. Please, take my seat.
Smiling at the man's antics (and happily taking his seat) Tapestry replies,
'You are a flatterer to be sure, Master Vencarlo... although as a rule I always worry... at least a little... about men who take my devilish appearance in stride... it makes me wonder what company you may have been keeping that I present no surprise to you...'
Turning to the Cressida, Tapestry asks,
'What task have you to set us now, Marshal? I'd hoped to talk with the prisoner we brought you earlier, if possible - will there be time for that?'

"I am no stranger to people who look a little different. Where some people see disgust on the scars I see someone who isn't afraid to show the pain she has been in." he smiles as he is clearly a charming but also intelligent man.
Cressida Kroft AKA DM |
Forgive the random pointless breaks between her talking, the AP gives it as a massive wall of text but I assume that's too painful to read so I thought this would make things easier.
"Yes well...as I was going to say, Vencarlo has often come to me with news of important changes on the streets and this is no different-indeed, what he's learned could degrade into sanctions, embargos or even war against Cheliax is we don't act now. This problem is a man named Darvayne Gios Amprei. You might have heard of him-he's an ambassador from Cheliax whose disdain for Korvosa is well documented, and yet he's taken great pleasure in what our city has to offer. Even before this recent unrest, his man was ready to recommend to his government a sanction on trade or perhaps even an embargo." she points this out quite seriously.
"Vencarlo has learned though his own considerable sources that Ambassador Amprei's actual goals are to undermine Korvosa's economy to the point where he can buy up large portions of the city from desperate landholders and establish himself in a position of power here. Whatever the ambassador's reasons, we can't let his bias or personal plans hurt Korvosa. Yet neither can we take drastic action-not only would killing him be wrong, but it'd simply martyr him in Cheliax's eye."
"Fortunately, Darvayne has his foibles. Again, Vencarlo has learned that Ambassador Amprei has been making fairly regular visits to a place in Old Korvosa called Eel's End. This den of vice is run by a dangerous man named Devargo Barvasi, better known in Korvosa's alleys as the King of Spiders. I'd love to put Barvasi out of business, but he pays his vice taxes regularly and never causes any problems-in fact, since he keeps his business constrained entirely within the five ships moored at Eel's End, he's actually one of the least of my worries."
"Truth be told, I can’t decide whether Devargo is a stirge or a kraken. He seems like a bloodsucking pest most days, but sometimes I fear just how far his tentacles have wormed their way into our great city. In this case though, his insidious web stretching across Korvosa’s underworld might prove to our advantage. Devargo would never let someone he recognizes as an ally of the Guard into Eel’s End, but your group’s a different case. I’d like you to pay a visit to Eel’s End and secure an audience with Devargo. Find out what he knows about Amprei, get proof of any illicit goings-on the ambassador might be involved with, and bring that proof to me to use to undermine any forthcoming attempts by him to get Cheliax to cut us off. Devargo might not be willing to part with his information easily. I’ll supply you with some gold to bribe him, and whatever’s left over you can keep for yourself. Remember: the man is dangerous, but so are you—if things get violent, I wouldn’t mourn his passing."
She hands over a coinpurse over to you, placing it on the desk.
"This is 1000 gold coins to bribe Devargo. You can find him by-
Krenn Weststone |
Krenn squirms uncomfortably at the description of the request. Sounds chancy, but I'm in if everyone is willing to try it.
No offense intended to you sir, but in that part of town we may be seen with you showing us the way, which may link us in ways we are trying to avoid at the moment.
After Vencarlo goes, Krenn will as Cressida for a moment of her time.
Krenn will take the gold for the party. That's a sack with twenty pounds of gold, and I don't think anyone wants to take that encumberance hit.
Jerin |
So we are bribing the criminal to extort the corrupt Chelaxian politician...sounds like fun! Now I would be more helpful if I could rest and get my spells back? But if we need to go now I understand. If he gets out of line I can always put him on the other end of this lightning bolt wand... he draws it out and starts to handle it absently...
Tapestry |
'I've worked Eel's End before,' Tapestry comments casually, 'getting in shouldn't be difficult. I too would like a chance to... recover... a little from a recent poor night's sleep. I'd also still like to talk to Verik, Marshal, if that's possible?'
The fact she's worked Eel's End is in her background, and has been from the start, so I'm guessing it's okay?
Aventi D´Gaudon |
This new mission sounds understandable. As the others speak, I understand them and rest would be good for all of us. I see us more talented, hm, during night than day so we could use this time to see around. After all, no one really cares or worries about something what happens in night Aventi speaks now after long time silence as he take a fast look at Vencario
Cressida Kroft AKA DM |
That sounds fine, though the interior would've changed just for sanity's sake.
Although he doesn't leave right away, but seeing what the dwarf says he bows in respect and leave the room, showing a spring in his step and a twinkle in his eye that hints at the vibrancy of a man half his age.
"If indeed you do not wish to me accompany you I will be on my way. Continue to do your great work for the city my lords and lady." as he says this he gives everyone another respectful bow before leaving.
You notice that the last two fingers on Vencarlo's right hand are smaller than they should be and appear to be stiff too. Where normal fingers would bend, these do not.
"Please take him with you. I would rarther not fear something happening to him on the way to his acadamy and I can't spare the men to escort him. He is truly a dear friend." she sighs knowing that she can't force you to do anything you don't want to.
"I will keep this safe, however I have not heard the case of Mr Pestico, but I am sure I will hear of it sooner or later."
"Some people would say everyone from Cheliax are corrupt, but then again Varisa was once under their grasp as was this city but I do not believe all are bad. We have many Cheliaxian citazins who have moved here afterall and many are upstanding nobles." she looks to the door where Vencarlo left from "I would like this delt with soon, but I understand spellcasters and their need for rest. As I have said I do not know if Devargo is a stirgin or kraken. He might take the money and do as we bribe him or turn on you. If you feel a lot more safe from resting, then by all means you can rest as your work for the city has helped quell the chaos from how bad it could've become.
At the mention of Verik she sighs but nods.
"Yes, but I do not believe he will tell you anything. He believed he was doing a great justice for the city however you all revealed that he was fooled into it and the men he hired were simply thugs. You may talk with him, he's in cell 309."
Jerin |
Since Jerin has no idea who this person is he would probably retire early to his room and wake up early the next morning to change a cantrip to read magic so he can get the list of spells from the spellbook to see if there are any he is interested in copying for today's action.

'Don't be so hasty, Master Orisini,' Tapestry calls out after hearing the Marshal's request, and hurrying after the man, 'Uncle Krenn may be quite capable of taking on anything Old Korvosa can throw at him, but I for one would love the pleasure of your company... if you can but wait until we've rested and recooped from our recent outings?' She offers a winning smile...

'Thankyou, Marshal,' Tapestry replies.
Tapestry will head to cell 309 to have a chat with Verik, if anyone wants to come along. Otherwise I think it's just a good night's sleep... Unless anyone has a better offer... ;)
Aventi D´Gaudon |
Not really I guess. Aventi is going to sleep, since no need to stay awake and sleep is good :)
Turning to others and binding good night, Aventi heads back to tavern Little bit tired and not so much into talking with people this late, if you excuse me... i am little bit tired and exhausted
Oooh, just noticed about in OOC. @Tapestry: I didn't mean like asshat or being tight about it. Just described maybe as a another way or something. Not seeing it as a bad thing or being something else :)
Verik Vancaskerkin AKA DM |
Those who go to meet Verik notice that as before, there are very few guards about. The absolute minimum required who are either stationed alone or with atleast 1 other pwerson.
Verik simply sits in his cell, having eaten his meal of simple bread and water, awaiting for what punishment is to become of him. He appears to just stare blankly at the floor and say nothing.
"..." it doesn't appear that he notices you at all and looks a depressing sight.
Tapestry |
Tapestry casts Guidance on herself, Krenn (and anyone else who's in need) before entering the cell...

'Maybe we're all being fools,' Tapestry counters, 'all being played... We've seen a few things - you being in here, an old man being dragged away by the guard when he could have been a great help to the city - which are making me wonder if we're on the right side... if there are, indeed, sides to the madness going on these days. I thought... well, I hoped... that you'd possible know of someone we could talk to about such... doubts... someone on a different side, with a different point of view than the supporters of the Queen?'

Pesky city watch dragging away murderers eh Jerin... Curnach says quietly to the wizard with a chuckle, but not loudly enough to interrupt or detract from Tapestry's conversation.
Krenn Weststone |
Verik, it sounds like someone put you up to this, then pulled the rug out from under you. What happened? I hate to say it, but our situation is sounding eerily like yours before we intervened.
After giving Verik a chance to respond if he feels like it, Krenn will also ask Is there anything we can do for you? Any friends or family we can contact? Something to make you a little more comfortable here?

"I was blind to a beautiful woman. Virmanda Arkona...one of the Arkona family, but I still do not understand why she wanted me to give away this free meat." he just seemed very distant, though you are sure that he's being treated better than most prisoners.
Krenn Weststone |
Well, thank you for your candor. If we find out anything that will help your case, we will let you know. Let us know if anything else comes to mind for you.
With that, Krenn will leave if no one else has questions. Once back with the rest of the group, he will tell them Verik was very despondant. He did what he did because of love, a woman named Virmanda Arkona. Apparently, it was her idea to give away free meat. Doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Sure, give me a sec.
All of the words are written in Draconic, language that all wizards often write in.

You can tell most of these were used in order to create his dolls as certain constructs need to be created with different spells.

Tapestry having seen that Verik has been well taken care of, atleast compared to most criminals can see that he is wallowing in his own misery of trusting men he thought were trustworthy men to the cause and then find out they were rotten and no better than thugs.
Assuming you all go to the Inn after this as you all wanted to rest
The next morning Tapestry announces her departure.
"I am sorry my friends, but the temple requires my aid. The chaos has affected my sisters it seems, however I have brought with me a fellow follower of The Savoured Sting. I would like to introduce you to Mister Skender Ghaelekin." she introduces the young man to the rest of the group, allowing him to make his own introduction.

I would like to introduce you to Mister Skender Ghaelekin." she introduces the young man to the rest of the group, allowing him to make his own introduction.
A solidly built man in a bronzed breastplate stands before you. He wears a pair of cesti on his hands, brass plates reflecting the sunlight. High black leather boots rise up to his knees. Gold buttons line the outer edge of his black suede breeches that appear so tight as to have been painted on his legs. The yellow doublet is fashionably cut to show the black of his silk shirt. He holds a hand crossbow. Hanging from his hip is a vicious looking barbed whip. He is a yellow jacket, one of the vaunted inquisitors of Calistria who practice seduction, subterfuge and slaying.
Obviously a varisian, he seems somehow more, as if he were what varisians were meant to be. Hair so black as to be blue grows thick and long. His copper skin shines. Golden orbs look out at you yet it isn't the lack or irises and whites which leaves you feeling unsettled, but rather the penetrating gaze of a hunter boring into your being, measuring your soul.
Tapestry's fellow clergyman turns and nods to the priestess of Calistria, 'Thank you for introducing me to your companions. I feel there is an opportunity for great deeds here.' Looking back to the band of heroes, Skender nods to the group. 'Hello. I have heard a story of your exploits. I am honored to make your acquaintance and hope to be of some value in your continuing efforts.' Skender stands quietly, awaiting responses from the members of the group.
Curnach Daveck |
Note to Drayen- Curnach is extremely shy, which has mostly progressed into grumpyness and aloofness. Take none of it personally, welcome to the game :).
Leaning against the wall, a tall and lean looking human watches the newcomer closely. The way he starts and always keeps his back to a wall is somewhat reminiscent of a cornered animal. After watching Skender for some time he speaks, a soft voice that seems unused to forming syllabyls.
Unless Tapestry has spun a grand tale from our limited accomplishments you may find us wanting, Skender. Curnach Daveck.
Jerin |
At the table sitting next to some cold, uneaten porridge is obviously a wizard. He seems to be focused entirely on a large book in front of him. He looks up for a moment to size you up, or potentially to give his eyes a break, Oh hello...ummm...well met I am Jerin, fairly new to this group myself. You should join us and have some breakfast. Don't listen to Curnach, from what I have observed to date, he is actually a Druid of some power, no one here likes to talk about themselves as people of import, but I wouldn't underestimate any of them. Tonight should prove to be VERY interesting. We are bribing a criminal to extort a corrupt Chelaxian politician! Now tell us all about yourself.
You get the feeling that this one may be a talked once you get him started.
