Venetia is home and doing better. They never did figure out what was wrong, though, so all we can do is hope it doesn't happen again.

I agree entirely with the kudos - I didn't expect to like this as much as I do. In fact, I'm thinking about adding it to my game when I start back up so that we can have virtual sessions when we can't run for periods of time.

On an unrelated note, Jim & I are trying to get corporate sponsorship for Dad to take an Antarctic cruise. :) (95 year old finally achieves goal of visiting all the continents!)

Everyone who is headed up the stairs - take a look at "total defense" and "withdrawing" if you aren't attacking and don't forget the "on higher ground" bonus if you ARE attacking.

When I am fully healed I am at 10HP. Does this mean I am at 6?

Also...if I wanted to wait at the top of the stairs and if any foe comes up KICK them back down so they get stuck in the lower deck, how would I do that? Is that just a standard attack but I would just say what my intention is?

It's a 'readied action'. you declare your action, and what will trigger it. As soon as an action that would meet your trigger is started, your readied action goes off, interrupting the trigger, and potentially messing it up (your damage acts as a penalty).

Remember, if any actually die, so do we. I tend to think we've proved we can hold our own. Right now a little grace may be in order so that they become less hostile.

Makes total sense and I'd like to comply but I have to accept that grace from a Barbarian in rage is a hard thing to come by.

Following up in Atlatl's question regarding nonlethal damage:

What's the difference between real and nonlethal damage if when you reach 0 with either you become unconscious and then have to save to become stable?

Non-lethal damage heals faster.


Nonlethal damage isn't considered "real" damage until it brings someone to zero. It heals at 1 point per hour. And it can't kill you unless its really, really bad.

Something I am not understanding is why was Syl attacking us (I thought she was in with Noonan and Gilraen.)? And then why are we 'helping' her (other than to escape the wrath of the captain)?

If this is part of the storyline, then don't spoil it.

She does seem unstable from her Bio and lead up, so maybe we can leave it at that....


She gave Noonan extra stew-- her only previous party interaction.

Noonan decided on a great fondness for her on that basis alone.

Through gossip with the rest of the crew you will find out... she is chaotic evil, insane, and escaping serial homicide charges when she was willingly recruited by Plugg. When Plugg or Scourge tell her to hurt someone, she will do so quite cheerfully.

If you notice, she forgot the "nonlethal" part of the attack at some point, and switched to actually trying to kill Rosie.

Noonan's unexpected fondness for Syl will be quite interesting...

Especially since it will probably upset Rosie and Conchobhar...

I'm almost ready to give xp at the end of this day. Have to see how a few last things unfold. You all have the 50 xp from revelling in my wonderful maps.

A question for the gallery...
This kind of day aboard ship is scheduled to go on for a good bit longer.

Are you happy with the current pace (Pretty slow with all the roleplaying?)

Would you like it somewhat faster? (medium)

Or would you like the expedited version? (fast) aka...

"Its morning, your job is "X". Roll. Your activity is "X", Roll. Next day..."

Also there are only a couple more combats scheduled for the next while. Would you like me to throw in a few more encounters? (It slows down the story, but may make it more fun for you while its happening.)

I'm happy with our current storytelling pace. Slower than some other S&S games running concurrently, but richer in detail. But I'll pick up the pace if you guys want.

The current pace is fine for me. I'm in a Pathfinder Society pbp game which moves at a very quick pace so I don't mind the more leisurely, role-play heavy approach here. But if others want to bump it to medium, that would be OK too.

Yeah, I wish I could convey better in storytelling prose, rather than just spelling it out, but here are the 3 differences from this morning.

1. This morning the odds were 8 vs 8. Now that most of your friends are outta the room and everyone one else is in it, its 20-1

2. The healers were at full spells. Now they got zip.

AND

3. This morning they were just hazing you as the new kids on the block. Now, after being pummeled and humiliated by you, they hate you with a fiery passion that would make an iv drip of molten lava seem refreshing by comparison.

It is difficult to die from non-lethal damage, not impossible. 20 guys doing d6+3 non lethal damage (90 hp average total) is still kinda dead.

So... if you wanna go back, and follow Fipps and Maheem up to the deck, we can do that.

Fipps and Maheen may be affected by fatigue from their earlier beating and time in the box and ALSO, perhaps, the alcohol (Constitution Damage, Fatigue in Hours), right?

Just wanted to make sure that it was factored in if it should be as your ongoing management of 4-5 different storylines and experiences must make such details difficult to remember (assuming they ARE details that matter right now).

OK - been looking at maps. Seems to me there's some stuff we ought to have noticed by now..
Descriptions for areas a4-a5 (and subparts)? Specifically, who bunks in a4?
Who bunks in a7? I'm pretty sure we haven't been in there, but we should have observed who comes/goes.
Player knowledge (Sidhon hasn't been in the galley at all) - is A9 the locker of ships stores?


I've updated the tags for several areas on the maps.
A4 seems to be officers quarters.
A5 seems to be the captains quarters- locked.
A4a, A4b, A5b- are all locked.
A5a is open if you wish to look while youre exploring.
A6 is the middle hold, and I've designated it as a place where people eat and hang out.
A7 is likely to be Fishguts' and Groks' quarters.
A8 is the galley.
A9 is the quartermasters store where you've just gotten a small peek.

Where people eat, gamble, play music, tell tales, and drink isn't specified. So I'm going to say some are in the Middle Hold, and some are on the foredeck.

For the purposes of current activities we'll say people go to pee off the poop deck (but not too close to the captains' quarters!) Also not specified, but I wonder if in fact this is why it is called a poop deck?

From Wikipedia:

In naval architecture, a poop deck is a deck that forms the roof of a cabin built in the rear, or "aft", part of the superstructure of a ship.

The name originates from the French word for stern, la poupe, from Latin puppis.

This isn't actually what I heard last time I was on a replica of one of Columbus's ships, but either way, it has nothing to do with the bodily function.

In fact the facilities are at the very front od the ship. Prevailing wind on older sailing ships is back to front - so the smelly bits are up front. That's also why the galley is forward - cook-fire smoke goes off the front, rather than streaming down the deck. Steamboats confused people because the prevailing wind stopped being predictable, hence tall smokestacks.


Alllrighty then! So Noonan & Company are actually on the foredeck!

I couldn't figure why the captain would want his quarters next to the latrine.

I just wanted to chime in, that the pace is good for me. If it were possible to give us (for the admittedly more inexperienced)players some trials that would have us expand our knowledge of the actions we have available to us. Other than that, the pace is great. (+1/2 is ok too)

Atlatl has been doing some reflecting, as a ninja, and though full of piss and vinegar at the start, is realizing his roots and how being less obvious, sneaking in shadows and less 'in your face' is the WAY of the ninja, and his bet asset (he had to take that class 3 times in college for he kept picking fights in broad daylight. This is why he stayed out of the Noonan fight.

You said 'if' but then then you gave me details. Are there possibly more details if I Perception Check?

Also...I am going to Southern California Wed Morning till Monday, with questionable internet access. If I don't chime in, please play my character as you see fit to move the story ahead. Keep in mind I prefer to lie low and stay out of the limelight, but will help if all my chums are in a pickle, UNPROVOKED.

I will do my best to check in every day.
