Family reunion this weekend - I'll try to get the info & bio posted by Sunday. If there is any NPCing to be done, Gilraen would like to spend a little time during the evening chatting with Sandara.

coincidentally enough, I've got a family reunion this weekend as well. I'll try to keep up as best I can. Otherwise... bilge pump, rat traps, not getting killed, and getting to know angry jake. Oh - and fishing uncooked bits of atlatl out of the bilgewater, after the pirates fillet and then lightly dice him.

I was hoping Zorg would smuggle down some tools, but he doesn't appear inclined to be supportive of that. well enough if he doesn't rat out the folks in the brig.

I understand and followed your profile edit directions, but no where do I see a place to enter a Bio.

NOWHERE I tells ya!!!

Poor Atlatl, he thought we were doing strength checks to get out of the Bilge, and that "up and out" was the next logical step. He better go back and re-read the storyline again...

Ahh... I think I understand now. You were looking for a PLACE to put your bio. There isn't one. Question answered?

There are only boxes for the stats and then one empty box at the bottom where you put everything else. The big, formless box is where you can put your background. Sidhon and others choose to format thusly, to condense info by topic:

(spoiler=Backstory)Waxing poetic here(/spoiler)

(spoiler=Crunch)Fighty stuff here(/spoiler), etc...

~~~~
You can do exactly what you intended, which is go out and away thru the hatch, but let me clearly outline the story so far and then your choices first.
(I still recommend reading thru the stories thus far, even other people's because A)it'll catch you up and B)there are some good chuckles in there):
So before you met up with these people this is what happened:
Atlatl only:
As we said, your previous ship, the Sea Sprite, was captured, the officers were killed, and your previous shipmates were given the choice to join or die. 3 joined, 5 refused (small ship and lets say some died in the original combat). Those that refused weren't killed immediately, but put in the brig instead.
Every night at sundown Scourge and Plugg put on a show, whipping and humiliating you guys and asking again if you want to join or die. Out of the 5 in the brig 2 more went over. Yesterday one was killed, leaving only you and Jakes in the Brig. You didn't know Jakes well on the previous ship, but he was always courteous, even a bit of a gentleman. And he had an honorable reputation. You suspect he's not feeling chatty because he won't "go over," and he knows he's going to die.-GM Hints, you've held out so far, but you know if you don't escape today you're going to have to surrender-- or make up a new character tomorrow ;) . The gill device hasn't happened yet (the sorceress isn't going to make time creating it if you don't join). But it'll happen tonight-
What Atlatl has experienced since the rest of the party has come on board:
Saving space, but anyone can read:
Atlatl was brought out of the brig for climbing tests with the rest of the new recruits. You attempted to climb (why not? maybe you could jump to freedom from higher up) but Plugg and his lackeys beat the crap out of you before you got far, and threw you back in the brig.
A little while later Sidhon (the short lizardy kobold guy) was brought into the brig unconscious, they tied him up instead of manacling him because of his little wrists.
I played Atlatl for a little bit, hopefully in character with what you would do, so that Sidhon could interact with you. If you don't like, tell me and I'll adjust.
Atlatl easily escaped from his manacles with his presumably good "Escape Artist" skill check. He bandaged Sidhon's whip wounds and untied him. Sidhon thanked him upon waking and attempted to engage both Atlatl and Jakes in conversation. Jakes isn't feeling chatty.
A while later you both heard banging around, goblin cursing, and then more banging around. You unlocked the brig door, with your presumably good "Disable Device" skill check. You went out to see what the ruckus was.
The kobold addressed the goblin politely. The goblin shoved the kobold. Seeing you make a run for the hatch, the kobold suggested you stay and help him with the bilge pump instead (cause you'll get killed if youre caught trying to escape.)
Which brings us to now. Some (but not the only) options are:
1. Explore the bilges. You've been stepping on stuff under the murky water. Some is icky. Some is....? If you take this option, give me two Perception checks (dice)d20+your perception bonus(/dice).
2. Help Sidhon with the Bilge Pump. There's a kind of roll called "Aid Another." Let's say you don't have "Knowledge Engineering" but Sidhon does. You go ahead and roll (dice)d20+Intelligence Bonus(/dice). If you get a high enough roll,(15 in this case) then you've helped Sidhon. You give him a +2 on his roll. Additionally, if you let Sidhon borrow your lockpicks, I'll give him another +1. They are not the right kind of tools, but still helpful.
3. Chat with the squabbling guys a while.
4. Go back into your cell and see what happens.
5. Ignore everyone and head out the hatch. (I'll say you haven't done it before now because there was a sliding bolt on the outside of the hatch door. But Zorg opened it on the way in, giving you your shot. This is what you said you wanted to do, so if its still the thing, then tell me and we'll go forward. I just wanted you to be clear on your choices.
@mike - don't worry too closely about sequencing in the posts. Nature of the media. Out of the slightly posting-word-salad, you can read storylines as Marguerite (sp?) has done above. There's a certain 'fog-of-war' detachedness to it that takes a bit of getting used to. Also, there's a certain art to breaking up your posts to make them easy for folks to splice their own contributions into - you can see that I spliced into Marguerite's post in this post because she segmented it nicely for response.
@Mike - ain't no thing. Atlatl's still in the brig for a reason. and he's big, and blue. So Sidhon's all down with the, "how do we keep the captivity- and humiliation- half-crazed blue guy from getting us all killed?" It's a much more understandable and tolerable circumstance than the "who is the little blue guy pushing me around?" thing.
Oh - and you undine-sorta folks may be enthused about breaking out of the bilges and swimming free, but my ancestors left behind that amphibious thing quite a while ago.
Looking forward to it. Listen, while I've got ya here, doesn't my Bull Rush do damage? Unarmed strike?
Noonan wrote:
"Bull Rush" is a combat *maneuver,* not an attack. Bull Rush lets you push people back. Improved Bull Rush gives you a +2 to do it, and lets you Bull Rush without provoking an attack of opportunity.
With the feat "Bull Rush Strike" you can bull rush *and* attack, but you do not have that feat (yet?)
I looked into "Charge" for you, because that does allow an attack at the end. But its slightly different. Charge *is* an attack move, using momentum to give you +2 to attack, but -2 to AC. You do not move the person like bull rush.
I almost let you do the charge instead... but... you need at least 10' to gain momentum, and it can't be difficult terrain-- like heading up steps.
So you successfully Bull Rushed Fipps and knocked him back 5'. No attack.
~~~

That all made me look at Atlatl's situation more closely. He had to move to close with Syl. He moved in a 5' step and he attacked. He wouldn't have the chance to move again to do acrobatics. So no attempt, no fail, no attack of opportunity.

EDIT: I just reread Gilraens post. She's right, an unarmed strike by itself provokes an attack of opportunity. Sorry if I mislead ya, Mikey. Narwhal 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 MISS, Syl1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20HIT Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

~~~
For Zorg's spell, making it go off this round after a full action works for me. (Is that an official thing? I'll give it to you in either case. I just want to know if I can use it as a player in other campaigns.)
This figuring out the rules from a GM perspective is challenging. But its forcing me to learn 'em.
Thems my rulings. If we get into situations where "I woulda done sumthin different if Ida known..." tell me and we'll try to figure something out.
When you begin a spell that takes 1 round or longer to cast, you must continue the concentration from the current round to just before your turn in the next round (at least). If you lose concentration before the casting is complete, you lose the spell.
so... no, not really. full round spells suck. My DnD3.5 druid with all the 'summon nature's ally' spells spent way, way, way too much time on full-round casting, until she could gin up one of the several different 'speed-up the full-round spells' feats.
Noonan definitely would enjoy the "dirty trick" combat maneuver. I think it's described in the Advanced Player's Guide, but also here:
Dirty Trick
Male HP: 15/15 | DR? | AC 14 | T ? | FF ? | CMD 19 | F ? | R ?| W ? | Init +4| Per ? (?) Human Barbarian/1
LOVE it...love the sound of "Greater Dirty Trick" even more.
HEY, I'm have some difficulty full understandning raging:
1. My AC dips, which sucks...
2. But I get some extra temporary HP (2 per level, right?)
3. Since my strength increases, by 4, shouldn't the modifier and, therefore, my attack bonus increase? How about damage?
Hokay... the Improved Dirty Trick looks really good for Noonan. If you want, you can swap it for Improved Bull Rush. We're still early in the game. You can then pick up Greater Dirty Trick with a future feat.
If you do that, your first round action stands (just to make my life a little easier), but your second round punch to the 'nads will have extra oomph.
You are correct on Rage:
-2 AC
+2 HP per level
+2 to hit and damage in melee (not ranged weapons tho)
Also the flanking gives each of the flankers *+2* to hit.
From what I read of unarmed attacks... double damage for critical hits is not ruled out... so go for it. With the extra +2 and x2 what was your total on him?
Male HP: 15/15 | DR? | AC 14 | T ? | FF ? | CMD 19 | F ? | R ?| W ? | Init +4| Per ? (?) Human Barbarian/1
Yeah--I noticed that + 2 from above too late...I'll remember...wouldn't have mattered here, though--20 is a 20.
I'd love to swap the Improved Dirty Tricks with the Improved Bull Rush.
OOOOMPH! :)
My damage would be 9 and not 7 with the rage, then...
THANKS for letting me play dirty!!!!
(hp 4/10 | AC 17 (T 17, FF 11) | CMD 15 | Fort +2 | Ref +5 | Will +2 | Init +5 | Perc +6 | Prof (Sailor) +5) goblin witch (sea witch) 2
Well, I think Improved Dirty Trick requires Combat Expertise and an Intelligence of 13. The latter seems really iffy for Noonan. :) But of course, the GM can always house-rule something.
Arrgh! Did not see that. I looked over Combat Expertise, and I don't see that as being a feat that Noonan will really want (sacrifice "to hit" to increase AC-- Opposite of Rage).
I don't see why you'd have to be smart to be good at throwing sand in the eye or kicking someone in the groin. So I'm just gonna houserule that you can have Improved Dirty Trick now. To get Greater Dirty Trick Noonan will have to fulfill the last requirement... a BAB of +6.
Aagh. I'm no good with rules that don't make sense to me. I'm never going to be a Pathfinder Society GM.
Other issues--
Improved Dirty Trick does *not* provoke attacks of opportunity, so we're good there.
I keep using old D&D rules where "20" is automatically a critical, but actually Noonan, you have to roll again to confirm the critical. It's definitely a hit, so you keep the first damage roll, but roll to hit again to see if you get to keep the second. You have to beat Fipps' CMD of 15.
So your "to hit" is +4 str, +2 bonus str, +1 Conchy, +2 flanking, *and* another +2 from IDT = +11
EDIT: Given my role, I believe I should role again for critical?
Second role on punch to the goodies1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 13
So, does this mean he's not looking dead anymore?
No, you still critical. You didn't add enough plusses. It should be (6)+11= 17.
But the first 11 damage was nonlethal, so its in a "dude, when you wake up youre gonna wish you hadn't" world-of-hurt holding pattern.
The next 14 was lethal, So, he was at -3. Then he failed to stabilize, and took another -1. He's at -4 now.
Male HP: 15/15 | DR? | AC 14 | T ? | FF ? | CMD 19 | F ? | R ?| W ? | Init +4| Per ? (?) Human Barbarian/1
I'm fine keeping Bull Rush--I agree it doesn't make much sense to need a higher intelligence to do that silly stuff, but given Noonan's shiny 7 for intelligence, I'd feel wrong getting it. I guess the only difference with that last turn would be that I would have been lucky as opposed to strategic--everything else would remain the same, right?
Nothing like a lucky shot to the family jewels.
Male HP: 15/15 | DR? | AC 14 | T ? | FF ? | CMD 19 | F ? | R ?| W ? | Init +4| Per ? (?) Human Barbarian/1
It looks like ya' didn't see that last post above and I just wanted to bump it back to your attention. My understanding is that a regular attack wouldn't have given him an attack of opportunity...but I'm willing to take the damage just for having complicated things.
Unarmed Attack= Attack of Opportunity
Dirty Trick = Attack of Opportunity
Improved Dirty Trick if you have it = No Attack of Opportunity
Bull Rush = Attack of Opportunity
Improved Bull Rush if you have it= No Attack of Opportunity.
I presumed we were keeping the Dirty Trick. But even if you switched to a plain old punch, still its unarmed, and you didn't take the time for the brass knuckles so... Either way.
@Gilraen... good suggestion. I'll try to incorporate it with the next map. In the meantime...
PC's are blue.
Friendly-ish NPC's are yellow.
Hostile NPC's are in red circles.
A thought for the future is we do a little combat practice on Maptools one night. To helps the players (and the GM) learn more about combat maneuvers.
Everyone would have to download maptools, a free program. And Skype, another free program. My maptools tutor even said he would be willing to host. Maptools basics don't have too steep a learning curve. So a little initial stuff, and then we could just practice for a while. So let me know if anyone's interested.
It looks like we are mid round 2, and I do not have an action yet (as round 2 was done for me via DM)
The rest of this weekend is a little sketchy for computer access, so pleas move for me if I don't in a few hours.
I have not even had a chance to look at all the new excitingness that Goddess DM has put up, so I have some catching up to do....
MAPTOOLS! Loving it! I am in a Jade Regent campaign where we are playing "live" with Maptools and Skype.
If people are online together at the same time, then the map is interactive and everyone can move their characters and see whats happening. It does lots of fancy stuff that I could gush about too.
But the main reason I'm bringing it up to y'all again is to see if we wanna schedule an optional maptools night to practice combat maneuvers. It would help the newish players, and it would help me because there are a lot of maneuvers I've never actually used before.
A second bennie for more experienced players would be an intro to maptools from an adept friend (from the above Jade Regent game).
Maptools (free download) and Skype would be needed.
Whaddaya all think? One night to practice combat and maptools a bit?
It's scary, but I imagine it's far harder to be the PARENT of an exchange student who gets sick (or gets his face broken riding a bike, but that's another story). They've done CAT scan, XRay, Ultrasound and ruled out a bunch of stuff, but have no clue what the problem is - just intensive, very localized lower abdominal pain and nausea. Right now she seems to be doing better than the last couple days - hoping the trend continues.
If this is the case, here's the move I was hoping might become possible:
Top Secret:
Noonan throws the dwarf down the stairs at the bad guys and then positions himself for an attack of opportunity about 5-10 feet away from the trip wire.
