DM-All-Stars´ Darkmoon Vale Campaign

Game Master Tim Bürgers

This is a campaign where all players take turns in DMing. We play the Darkmoon Vale-Series Modules so far.

Here is the Discussion-Thread.

Stepping in with a freshly created alias, yet to be finished.

Male Varisian Human Thassilonian Conjurer 1

Conjurer-Wizards like Monks, ´cause then, Mage Armor rocks even more! :-)

M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1

Greetings all. As I posted in the recruiting thread, I am asking to be part of this group.

Ears, my wolf companion would be most appreciative of a mage armor now and again, at least until I can afford some chain mail barding. :)

Are monks treated as automatically proficient in APG monk weapons?
Can I choose an eastern monk weapon (such as a kusarigama) as a bonus proficiency from the Wanderer archetype?

You can choose any exotic or martial weapon as your wanderer-bonus.

From the APG-weapons you are automatically proficient with cestus, temple sword and brass knuckles.

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

Missed the links in the thread but Thorid is here and just posted in the gameplay thread.

Wonderful! The game is getting pace! :-)

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

Thorid's brief background/tie to Falcon's Hollow:

Spoiler:

Thorid was born and raised in the Dwarven city of Taggoret on the southern tip of the Five Kings Mountain range. His father, a weapon and armor smith, passed to him a very strong work ethic which he maintained as he followed his calling into the service of Torag. He believes Torag's use for him is to create and repair works that are practical and reliable. In turn, he himself seeks to embody practicality and reliability, forging deep friendships with others he views as holding strong to those values.

Recently, Thorid and his uncle Ulrok traveled to the Droskmere on an annual trip to collect mereswan gizzard stones. Stopping in Falcon's Hollow for supplies, Ulrok fell ill and Thorid's spells have been of little help thus far.

LastNameOnEarth has joined as well. Would you please add to your profile, which favored enemy you took? Thanks!

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

Ah yes, I was leaving that till later and forgot.

This issue is this, that from the path of the modules we have chosen, selecting Humanoid: Reptilian seems like a no-brainer. However, it also feels kind of cheap to use OOC knowledge like that. However, if I do not choose it, I am effectively hamgstringing the ability, since Kobolds are going to be the major player in the storyline, and probably the main villain for a while, or at least until such a level that I can choose another favored enemy anyway.

I wanted to ask the other players for their opinions.

M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1

Hmm. After careful consideration I have to say that I don't think you should cut in line. :P

I agree with you that, without a significant background story, taking that favored enemy is a little too much. But if your story is that somehow you have heard there is kobold trouble in these parts so you have come to lend a hand, since you are an expert in eliminating the pests. Just a thought. Not sure what the DM is good with.

I don´t know the other modules, but for Hollow´s Last Hope, animals is a good choice and reptilian humanoids isn´t.

Considering your falconer-theme, animals would also make a very plausible choice, because that´s what falconers are for: They hunt animals.

In Hollow´s Last hope, humanoid reptilian wouldn´t do you much good, either.

Considering the titles of the other modules of the series, humanoid reptilian wouldn´t destroy the game balance, I think. A title like "Hungry are the Dead" or "Carnival of Tears" hints nothing at kobolds.

So my advice is animals, but kobolds would be okay for me. Maybe the one DMing Crown of the Kobold King should state his opinion here, too.

It seems that we already lost two players. I guess we can play nevertheless. Four characters is enough. What do you think?

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

I say let's have a go with four. Perhaps if things get too close to TPK some form of divine intervention will help us along.

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

It's too bad, but ya, I say press onward as well. If they show up, it shouldn't be too hard to add them in a little late.

M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1

Rant mode on. I find it almost unbelievable that players drop so easily on these forums. Even on the ones with complex and time consuming selection criteria. Players work hours on character submissions only to drop in a week. I had hoped this would be better in this group of experienced DMs, but I guess it was not to be. Rant mode off.

I am happy to proceed with 4. We have arcane, divine, melee and range. Seems we only lack a rogue type to be pretty balanced. Not that I will be a perfect tank. But I will try.

We can hope that they are merely delayed for some reason and will still show up.

In regards to tanking, Thorid redesigned a bit to be able to help out front line, and Kestrel will be ok in melee as well, at least at low levels. We should be pretty good.

Male Varisian Human Thassilonian Conjurer 1

Tanking should be no problem. Bollon has a bunch of summoned creatures ready in round two. Even now at level 1 they will stay 3 rounds, which covers most combats.

So we are lacking only a rogue. Solution: The cleric takes one or a few find traps-spells at higher levels.

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

And for the rogue, both I and the monk should be able to cover climbing, acrobatics, and stealth. I have darkvision as well, so scouting is easy.

Sorry for the delay, got some troubles preventing me from showing up in time.
That said, I have seen games which started with 50+ posts per day, only to dissolve in a week. I post slow, but steady. Hope it's okay.

I say: Welcome back!

...and the story begins... :-)

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

Sorry for no posts the last day or two, I should be back to regular posting later this evening.

That reminds me of post frequency. Is one post per day a number everybody can live with?

We all know that sometimes this may not work, but then give a short signal, okay?

Did this run out already? That would be disappointing indeed. :-/

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

I'm still here. Don't jump to conclusions; its the last week of summer and a long weekend.

Long weekend? Not in Germany. Maybe that´s why I got a bit nervous. Sorry everyone.

We can of course reduce post-rates. I just like clear basic conditions. If we say e.g. one post per week I´d be fine with that either.

What you think?

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

Once per day posting is normally well within reason for me. I was travelling for work and stuck in a hotel with horrible wireless service. I'm home again and will be catching up on the thread today.

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

It's labour day weekend here in Canada, and I think it's the same in the US.

Once per day usually works fine for me too.

Now there is only Kis post missing. I sent him a PN.

M Wayang Cavalier of the Sword (Emissary)1

Hi all, Sorry for my absence. I responded to your PM. I am back from Dragon Con and catching up. Will post soon. Access was a real issue there. I would have thought it would be better.

I won't be at home this weekend. Depending on internet access, it might happen, that my next posts delay until monday.

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

No worries, have fun!

Back again!

Sorry, can´t post until monday. Have a nice weekend.

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

If anyone is interested, I'm recruiting for a Legacy of Fire campaign. Check it out here.

If anyone here is interested in running a campaign, I am in a Serpent's Skull campaign with pretty good players. We were about 3 weeks in and then the DM just switched the campaign to inactive and said he did not want to deal with the issues. Issues that we have all seen a dozen times on PbP. If anyone is interested, or know someone who wants to DM a Serpent's Skull campaign, please let me know.

Here is the OOC thread for the now inactive campaign.

Serpent's Skull

We have a mwangi elf wizard, a vanara ranger, a human cleric (me), and a human bard(archeologist). If someone wants to take over, we can play with 4 players, this group is decently balanced I think, or pick up 1-2 more.

As I said, we had only played for about a month, so very little has happened and we could easily restart if necessary.

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

Are we still going? Gameplay thread seems to have tapered off a bit over the last week or so.

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

I'm still for it. Kestrel is going to bed as I am in favour of moving on quickly as opposed to messing about in the camp. In that regard, I can't contribute much until Ki finishes his investigations and DB progresses us to the next day.

A check in that everyone is still here and game would be good. I think the game forum is just waiting for DB to progress things. Maybe he got caught up for some reason.

What Kestrel said. Still here and waiting for DB to advance the time.

AH, sorry everyone!

I usually only checked on the campaign-overview in my user-account. For some time it showed no new posts in our threads.

So I didn't answer.

It seems, I have to enter every thread once a day.

Sorry again. Let's advance.

We will soon have our first combat. How do you suggest to organize it? Should everyone post in initiative order or should we post by "first come, first serve" and then take a look at all actions in ini-order afterwards?

Method 2 is faster, Method 1 is easier to understand.

I have sent Ki a PM to check if he is still interested after my considerable delay in the past weeks. The story goes on as soon as he answers or after ... days.

What do you think would be a reasonable amount of waiting-time?

HP: 11 (11 total) M Dwarf Cleric (Artifice/Construct Theologian) of Torag | lvl 1

I've been happy recently with an init roll at the start of combat followed by everyone posting their actions independent of order. Honestly, though whatever works smoothly for you as DM is very likely fine by me.

A few days (2-3) waiting for Ki should be enough after a PM I think. I will be out of touch Thursday/Friday this week due to work travel.

As soon as Gunnar and Thorid have made their gameplay posts, story goes on.

Hey guys,

I hope, someone of you is also interested in playing/DMing DnD 4. If that is the case and you have some spare time for another online game, than please participate:

PBP DnD 4

No response from Gounar since Nov 10.

Is everyone okay with a replacement?

Female Aasimar Summoner 1

I'm never usually in hurry to replace someone. Did you PM him? He posted yesterday in his own game, so he should be around. Maybe this game dropped off his focus list.

Sorry guys, the game dropped from my radar for a while (the dot disappeared and RSS was broken), and then I didn't have any time for a few days. I'm getting back now.
