Thorid Bofack |
Thorid's brief background/tie to Falcon's Hollow:
Thorid was born and raised in the Dwarven city of Taggoret on the southern tip of the Five Kings Mountain range. His father, a weapon and armor smith, passed to him a very strong work ethic which he maintained as he followed his calling into the service of Torag. He believes Torag's use for him is to create and repair works that are practical and reliable. In turn, he himself seeks to embody practicality and reliability, forging deep friendships with others he views as holding strong to those values.
Recently, Thorid and his uncle Ulrok traveled to the Droskmere on an annual trip to collect mereswan gizzard stones. Stopping in Falcon's Hollow for supplies, Ulrok fell ill and Thorid's spells have been of little help thus far.

Ah yes, I was leaving that till later and forgot.
This issue is this, that from the path of the modules we have chosen, selecting Humanoid: Reptilian seems like a no-brainer. However, it also feels kind of cheap to use OOC knowledge like that. However, if I do not choose it, I am effectively hamgstringing the ability, since Kobolds are going to be the major player in the storyline, and probably the main villain for a while, or at least until such a level that I can choose another favored enemy anyway.
I wanted to ask the other players for their opinions.

Hmm. After careful consideration I have to say that I don't think you should cut in line. :P
I agree with you that, without a significant background story, taking that favored enemy is a little too much. But if your story is that somehow you have heard there is kobold trouble in these parts so you have come to lend a hand, since you are an expert in eliminating the pests. Just a thought. Not sure what the DM is good with.

I don´t know the other modules, but for Hollow´s Last Hope, animals is a good choice and reptilian humanoids isn´t.
Considering your falconer-theme, animals would also make a very plausible choice, because that´s what falconers are for: They hunt animals.
In Hollow´s Last hope, humanoid reptilian wouldn´t do you much good, either.
Considering the titles of the other modules of the series, humanoid reptilian wouldn´t destroy the game balance, I think. A title like "Hungry are the Dead" or "Carnival of Tears" hints nothing at kobolds.
So my advice is animals, but kobolds would be okay for me. Maybe the one DMing Crown of the Kobold King should state his opinion here, too.

Rant mode on. I find it almost unbelievable that players drop so easily on these forums. Even on the ones with complex and time consuming selection criteria. Players work hours on character submissions only to drop in a week. I had hoped this would be better in this group of experienced DMs, but I guess it was not to be. Rant mode off.
I am happy to proceed with 4. We have arcane, divine, melee and range. Seems we only lack a rogue type to be pretty balanced. Not that I will be a perfect tank. But I will try.

We can hope that they are merely delayed for some reason and will still show up.
In regards to tanking, Thorid redesigned a bit to be able to help out front line, and Kestrel will be ok in melee as well, at least at low levels. We should be pretty good.
Bollon |
Tanking should be no problem. Bollon has a bunch of summoned creatures ready in round two. Even now at level 1 they will stay 3 rounds, which covers most combats.
So we are lacking only a rogue. Solution: The cleric takes one or a few find traps-spells at higher levels.

If anyone is interested, I'm recruiting for a Legacy of Fire campaign. Check it out here.

If anyone here is interested in running a campaign, I am in a Serpent's Skull campaign with pretty good players. We were about 3 weeks in and then the DM just switched the campaign to inactive and said he did not want to deal with the issues. Issues that we have all seen a dozen times on PbP. If anyone is interested, or know someone who wants to DM a Serpent's Skull campaign, please let me know.
Here is the OOC thread for the now inactive campaign.
We have a mwangi elf wizard, a vanara ranger, a human cleric (me), and a human bard(archeologist). If someone wants to take over, we can play with 4 players, this group is decently balanced I think, or pick up 1-2 more.
As I said, we had only played for about a month, so very little has happened and we could easily restart if necessary.

I'm still for it. Kestrel is going to bed as I am in favour of moving on quickly as opposed to messing about in the camp. In that regard, I can't contribute much until Ki finishes his investigations and DB progresses us to the next day.
A check in that everyone is still here and game would be good. I think the game forum is just waiting for DB to progress things. Maybe he got caught up for some reason.

I've been happy recently with an init roll at the start of combat followed by everyone posting their actions independent of order. Honestly, though whatever works smoothly for you as DM is very likely fine by me.
A few days (2-3) waiting for Ki should be enough after a PM I think. I will be out of touch Thursday/Friday this week due to work travel.
