Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Ah, of course, but then for him it's just treated as a small masterwork longsword, which he *is* proficient with.

I thought of making a post about this, but figured it wouldn't come up. I would let him treat it as a mwrk longsword, but he obviously couldn't finesse it.

Thanks, but since Ambroze can't use weapon finesse with it, he would be unlikely to use it due to his Str penalty. Plus, since it is sized for a medium person, Ambroze would have an additional -2 penalty to attack rolls.

Would it be a good backup weapon for James or Tun'ada? Or maybe one of the NPCs?

Female Human Oracle 4

Indeed, it should probably be given to one of the NPC's. It has little realistic value anyway. I doubt we'll be encountering a mercantile store anytime soon. It'd be better off in Sasha's hands, I'd think.

Your Humble Narrator

As a dual-wielder, she would appreciate that. Currently she has a masterwork rapier/kukri combo going for her.

If you give herthe short sword i'll award you a +4 bonus on your next diplomacy check to influence her attitude, and a +2 bonus on her next will save to improve her morale (who wouldn't be cheered up by an expensive present eh).

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Yeah, that was my next suggestion if no PC wanted it. I support that.

So about sleep, who agrees or disagrees with my suggestion in the RP thread?

Male Dwarf Druid 1

I dont mind the sleep midday idea.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

I guess it could work. I would have to imagine any travel we would do would be slowed down because of the party members without low-light vison or darkvison.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

As long as it doesn't get too cloudy we should be alright with the moon and stars, we'd take penalties to longer distance perception checks, think of it from an RL point of view. Also, light is a cantrip.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Moon and stars are fine, depending on how dense the jungle canopy is.

Please don't think I'm arguing just to argue, think of it as more of a Devil's Advocate point of view.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Also, given the pace we've been making, a little IM discussion might prove useful sometimes. If anyone wants my msn address it's here:

On the sleep issue, I asked if sleep in the midday section would count towards refreshing sleep counting towards spellcasters 8hr requirement, but AK said no it didn't/ Not sure if that was cos I was sleeping up the tree or not...but if it doesn't refresh spellcasters then Chi will need a full 8 hrs at night.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Yeah, but that was just if the three hours would add to it. If we have our full eight hours then it should be fine.

Female Human Oracle 4

Yeah, AK will weigh in I'm sure, but if we were to sleep a full 8 consecutive hours during the day, that probably would be sufficient for casters, maybe I'm wrong.

I'm OK with it, I guess - but from a RP perspective you're asking a little much for a 16 year old girl, even a brave one, to be walking through a potentially hostile jungle at night just using the Moon and stars. I'd have to insist upon using Light pretty much most of the time. I'd probably be speaking nothing but Celestial even then.

Seriously, though, if that's what you guys want to do, I'll go along and give it a shot.

Also, Journal is up.

Your Humble Narrator

A full 8 hour sleep in the day will replenish spells etc.

I think its a terrible idea though, considering your vision will be severely impaired at night- even Flute's darkvision is only 60 feet.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

The journal is fantastic!

Hmm, maybe this isn't such a good idea. The jungle will be more dangerous at night, we'll attract predators with the light, we'll be less capable, and what are we getting for this? It's not like we're pushed for time.

Female Human Oracle 4

Thanks, James!

Yeah, I really think we should stick to adventuring during the day, if I'm to be honest.

Did you like how AK described those snakes? It was something like "...optimized for hunting at night..." - it was a classic DM nudge, very subtle and nuanced but directly to the point.

... Damn you caught me ;)

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

We are going to have to sort out any watch details to get the best cover during the night. Don't know if you want to decide it here and role play it into the story, rather than roleplay the whole way through.

I guess we need a list of the characters which require 8 hrs or whatever to make use of their abilities and those that don't.

Chi needs 8 hrs sleep and has Low-light vision so is good for dusk like duties. So 8 hrs 10pm-6am + 1 hr with cat, making 7am to start day proper. This is Chi's prefered schedule, best watch time 8pm-9pm.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

James does not require eight consecutive hours, but is merely human. He has decent perception though, and can hold his own until others wake up if necessary. As an Elf doesn't Chi only need four hours?

Sovereign Court

Pathfinder did away with that, even in 3.5 it was actually a Forgotten Realms thing that spilled over into the core rulebook somewhere between 2E and 3E.

Golarion Elves sleep for 8 hours unless house-ruled.

A witch needs 8 hours...I've not seen anything to say elves get less need for sleep, but I could easily be wrong.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Yeah, my bad, it was different in 3.5.

Female Human Oracle 4

Deevor, your avatar being a drow is really messing with my mind, lol.

I think I need 8 hours. We will have a whole camp full of people to watch, though... how many of them will be willing to do so, I don't know. I'd think Jask and probably Sasha will, at the least. I'm sure Tun'ada is a good watch candidate, at well.

Gwenyth wrote:

I wanted a very different elf, as the elves in the Expanse are a bit of an outcast type of elf. So its something your mind will adjust to over time, after all Drizzt turned out OK...LOL

I'll post this with my happy go lucky friendly avatar...:)

Strange I know, but I'm not an MSN user, but i'm on facebook if you wanna try that sometimes...TheAncientCoil. But James, anyone that stands up and hits things hard is always popular with me.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Someone has to cover the squishy Elf, I should know, the squishy Elf is usually me. Ask Alex. :P

That's what I hear, I believe he said something about you normally going for the maxed out DEX /AC combo.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Yeah, it's a bad habit. That's a big reason I'm playing this type, I want to get some more variation. The invulnerable barb is perfect for that, the early dr and lack of uncanny dodge and trap sense encourage you to take hits. Thus the high con.

Female Human Oracle 4

OMG, Max/Ambrose, I am so sorry I messed up your race in the journal!! Let's chalk it up to her confusion over being exposed to so many half-high people all at once, eh?

Gwenyth wrote:

No worries! That works for me!

Female Human Oracle 4

I'm leaving work, and will be out of commission for awhile, until I return home and get settled. If folks are posting quickly, please feel free to take my actions for me, AK. Heal checks to assist on Secondary Poison Saves as needed, Guidance, Channel, Etc. for the most part.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Watch pattern? Becoming a pressing matter, obviously Tun and I don't need eight hours in a row, so we can take advantage of that. If we centre sleep around an eight our period where all caster sleep, that's:

Ambroze
Gwenyth
Chi
Flute
Jask

As far as the other five of us go, we can stagger 2 hour watches over a course of ten hours, centred over the eight for the casters. All that's left to determine is order. Tun late, three npcs, James early?

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

I don't think the 8 hours have to be consecutive, provided we do actually make up the hours in the sleep cycle...so 4 sleep hrs....2 hrs watch...4 sleep hours can be OK

Anyway gotta go now...home calls.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

Hmm, I'm pretty sure for casters it has to be consecutive... but I could be wrong.

With respect to the 8 hour resting requirement: the caster does not have to sleep for every minute of the time, but must refrain from movement, combat, spellcasting, skill use, conversation, or any other fairly demanding physical or mental task during the rest period. If the rest is interrupted, each interruption adds 1 hour to the total amount of time the caster has to rest, and the caster must have at least 1 hour of uninterrupted rest immediately prior to preparing spells.

Male Human Invulnerable Barbarian 2

So the plan I laid out is still a fairly good idea since it gives you all eight hours to yourselves to rest?

Female Human Oracle 4

It'll work for me! I get to sleep :-)

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

I'm good with that.

Male Dwarf Druid 1

As long as Flute gets his 8 hours, he doesn't really mind.

Female Human Oracle 4

How's the fever today, AK? I read in one of the Rules threads that you weren't feeling so well...

Think I have shaken it off now. Will update the game pretty soon.

Saw a nice map of the Jenivere's route made by a fellow DM, thought it might be interesting to you guys.

Hi all. My gf is returning home after almost 3 months in eastern europe, and i've promised no forums on the 25th or 26th. I will return to normal posting on the 27th and 28th.

Female Human Oracle 4

You know, Alex, in your Kingmaker game thread, you told all the players there to bot your character while you are gone. I was hoping you'd done the same here. I had visions of scantily-clad native people walking out of the jungle, laden with food and chests of gold. And a map to the mainland, and a schooner. Alas, it was not to be :-(

I remembered to edit it out of my copied and pasted note for the many pbp games i play in- alas, I forgot for my kingmaker game. Heres hoping the players dont notice...

Hey Gwenyth, I sent you an e-mail to your thenovembertree address.

Female Human Oracle 4

Hi guys, I need to fix Gwen up - I deleted her by accident for anyone who doesn't know - but I hope to get that done tomorrow morning at any rate. Sorry for the delay, AK, I am just up to my eyeballs in things to do right now. I'll get her re-rolled ASAP.
