Carry on without me, got to prepare for a Con and attend a Con this weekend ... back Tuesday..
Want to purchase some scrolls, like fly, cure mod, cure light, will work it all out after the Con....
Chi will use 1 scroll to learn a spell and others to take along for good measure.
She will probably get a ring of ... (maybe feather falling) ... if poss.
Back to work again now ...
Chi T'reignial |
I'm doing this before I get back into the game, so it keeps it a bit fair.
If Chi can take a 10 on spellcraft, then her familiar will know all the spells below, and 1 scroll will be used in the process (except Comprehend Languages which she doesn't learn).
Chi will buy ...
2500 1 ring of sustenance
0125 5 x Scrolls of Cure Light Wounds
0050 2 x Scrolls of Comprehend Languages
0300 2 x Scroll of Feast of Ashes
0300 2 x Scoll of Web
0300 2 x Scroll of Summon Monster II
0300 2 x Burning Gaze
----
3850gp
Also 6 flasks of Oil....
What I need to do is see if I can afford all these things...
But I will have to look at the game pages to do that...

Its fairly apparent that Tanner isn't going to return any time soon. While i'm worried about him and the baby that arrived just before his disappearance, I have to put the game first in this context.
Is anyone willing to bot Tsura permanently until he either returns or I can find a way to write her out or kill her off?
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Thanks, appreciated. I'll update soon.
As for the caravan coming through here... i'm going to have to retcon that. Considering it actually makes no sense, at all (can you imagine taking wagons through here?). There will be some other intangible benefit (basically passing through it allows you to swiftly scout a route for the caravan once on the other side).
DM Aron Marczylo |
"Don't mind the undead trying to bring the ceiling down. We've actually re-inforced it with adamantine so they can never break through, but it is entertaining to see them try." and that's when the undead with a power drill comes into play.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Msc actually... I wish I had the excuse of a Phd.
I guess Tanner disappearing again got me down too.
Was considering asking if you guys wanted to drop this game in favor of me running Slumbering Tsar, for a while. Book 3 of Serpents Skull is weak so i'm going to have to make a lot of changes to it anyway.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Well the way I see it, we've just lost Tanner and as much as Aron's always nagged me to get into one of my games ;), he doesn't seem too enthusiastic or attentive to Serpents Skull. I suppose we can open the floor to a discussion on the possibility of doing Slumbering Tsar. I don't really know if you guys are feeling the AP now. I think the first chapter was great but i'm not so sure from this point...

At the risk of speaking for anyone else I think its the realisation that:
- good game where DM is enjoying himself > good game where DM is not enjoying himself except it is not quite as good because the DM is not enjoying himself
Aron has AK pegged you above? I imagine that as the newest player you might feel least entitled to comment.

I like this band of happy travelers ... and I was really hoping Chi would have a bit more life left in her, I really liked what we've been doing together as a group and AKs DMing. It's been a great AP so far and I'd really like to finish this Race to Ruin so we get to a point where there is a good break. But in all honesty if AK, you have too much work to make the 3rd book work and are uninspired with it, then knowing you have to have a DM committed to make the game work, its best to go with AKs choice. I really like what AK's done in Race to Ruin so far and I think its been fun and you're doing a great job with the story, despite the occasional lapses when we've stuttered.
I know Tanner's departure has been a shame, but the length of pbp games makes these things likely and RL catches up with people.
I think you've probably been more busy with your masters than you were when you did you BA/BSc (whichever it was), which also hasn't helped .. but thats life.
Damn I'm gonna miss this bunch of characters ... (wipes tear from eye).
But ... I'll join whatever you decide, cos your games are good.
said my piece, time for me to shut up.

I agree. I'd really like to see our group get to Tazion for closure if for nothing else, but I'll be happy with whatever AK decides.

Lol only just noticed these comments. Anyway have to admit, I have learnt of Slumbering Tsar recently and does sound like fun and I agree that if the DM isn't enjoying it then it won't be too good for the rest of the group. I'll go with the DM's choice.

Ok. I'm still undecided having looked at the rest of the AP in detail as well as Slumbering Tsar.
Rest of AP-
Unfortunately, Tazion itself wouldn't actually provide a lot of closure
to the characters or story arc.
A lot of it is very uninspiring to me from here on out; while I fell in love with the first chapter and the set-up of it, I was dubious about the second (especially the remainder of the journey to Tazion) and the third and fourth are a hot mess (something about Paizo hiring a guy from ENWorld to work on the 3rd and he epic failed). The AP also seems to suffer from cleric BBEG overload; even by Paizo's standards...
I am willing to continue but i'm worried the AP will either get pretty stale/frustrating for you or i'll have to do a lot of work to modify things to keep it fresh.
Slumbering Tsar-
It looks very promising but it is long. It would be a long haul game with a very first edition feel- characters will die and I would not pull any punches with the game. It does however, feel very different to anything i'm running right now and the writing quality really makes me feel I got my moneys worth purchasing the .pdf's.
It would take a little work to make it fit into Golarion or for you to make characters that would work in the campaign. But on the bright side, its somewhat modular in nature, being split into three rough parts. I'm drawing strong contrasts in my mind to Temple of Elemental Evil, which may be as appealing for you as it is for me (although I can promise the whole thing is not a single dungeon crawl).
It feels like it encourages grittiness. And i'd kind of like that change in flavour, a little less high fantasy and more fear in the hearts of my PC's ;).
I'm not incredibly enthused on the mapping style but I could make it work. Reviews are generally very favourable.

Alex,
Sounds like you are leaning heavily toward Slumbering Tsar, which is fine by me. First Edition feel isn't a problem for me, hell it might even be a point in its favor - as that is the edition I cut my teeth on many, many years ago (sadly, well before your birth, Alex).
As far as character death goes, it is part of the game. If there is no threat to the characters, what's really the point of playing the game.
