I haven't been playing Ansha impulsively enough, so I thought I'd start by doing what I did when I played her in PnP games: I do the first thing I think of.

PWO - did Jakob end up furnishing Qhude with anything for his armband?

On the road- will post late tonight.

As far as can tell he was never asked. Or did I miss a post?

Mind you that might be the best course for qhude to persue at the moment. Jakob is not feeling very group oriented at the moment. I have no clue what to give.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Here, here, and here.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

I am thinking no.

Though Jakob would try to avoid hurting your feelings by claiming to have to think about what to give you.

He would consider giving you the Medal but he is not 100% sure that the pirate ship was a set up (looking at you Ansha) and he does not want to insult those folks who actually earned this kind of award.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Roger that - I'll put that down to an uncomfortable silence followed by an 'I'll think about it'.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

That sounds perfect.

Jakob wrote:

I always knew Ansha was a villainous mastermind.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

I must admit I do not understand why Ansha is withholding the information from the pirate note.

Jakob considers it increasingly unlikely that someone with Anshas knowledge and skill/power could be stymied by a code simple enough for a pirate captain to manage. He is likely to ask for the note back to see if he can manage it now that he has Linguistics to toss a Nat Div on.

I am not sure how he will react when he learns that it was all kabuki and that the crew died as part of the game.

I'd tell you why, but then I'd have to kill you. ;P

Assuming Ansha fails in accidentally killing oKOyA's PC before he even achieves consciousness, I vote we decide that waking him would be an unacceptable risk and seal the room back up again. ;)

At the very least, Mind Wipe seems like a fun way to make sure no one ever has a use for him!

Male Human

Now now, Joana. I am sure we should welcome our new member with open arms, even though he is a stranger found in stasis in a strange pyramid-like structure. After all, strangers should be welcome in an already established party, right? And no, of course I am not using this as a parallel to a certain similar situation of my own. Perish the thought... :-P

Dark Archive

No longer matters Drow Lich Epic level Wizard/Cleric of considerable ability

Sovereign Court

To be fair- if anyone's character had died this would have been my proposed "in" for their new character too. Otherwise... this would have been a NPC.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Well for what it's worth... Qhude is surprised that he hasn't died by now :P

o_0 ?

Sovereign Court

Eh, you've waited this long :P.

Male Human

Heh... I just noticed that Ansha gave up and kinda sorta leaves the mysterious sleeper behind.

Also... he is pureblooded? As in... +2 to all ability scores? Yikes! Although I do see some custom rules/weaknesses to balance that out.

Your Humble Narrator

In terms of RP (race points) it balances out. Appreciate that isn't a perfect system but can tweak as necessary.

No bonus feat for him as you all have (obviously no Human bonus feat or Skilled either).

A drawback with no bonus trait to compensate.

A negative custom feat.

No downtime bonus trait you all have.

May have been some other penalty I forgot about.

I'm a bit surprised, since in the initial recruitment thread you said no Azlanti purebloods. And no, Ansha hasn't given up yet- she's looking for something's skull to put in the device, since she's not about to wake up an Azlanti without first trying to pry his secrets from him.

Your Humble Narrator

This was a planned NPC from Day 1 when I wrote the meta-plot. Then I realized it could also be an PC replacement. It is a fairly monumental discovery itself to find a living (sort of) Pureblood so there was no way one was just going to be wandering around Sargava.

It's forty-seven point buy. A feat and a skill point per level aren't worth 22 extra build points. That's a whole other High Fantasy character, plus 2! I mean, plug in Grall's stats at level 6, and it's still only equivalent to a thirty point-buy.

He has a drawback and a negative feat that will both impact the whole party as much as they do him. ("Oh, no! The 47-point-buy combat beast just failed his save vs. dominate! We're all dead!" or "Damn it, he takes a -4 to Climb for the next hour which means we're all stuck here waiting at the foot of the cliff until then.")

An NPC who breaks the rules is one thing: We can all hate and resent and work to undermine him for showing us up. One isn't supposed to feel that way about a party member.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

Have to agree with Joana that the statline he has is somewhat abusive.

He's got superhuman stats in all combat relevant statistics, where as the rest of us plebs only have one exceptional stat (Qhude's 18 strength, Kieran's 18 Dex, etc). He has higher HP than Qhude, hits just as hard and has better AC to boot...

I will wait for Alex to address your concerns as this is his deal. :P

Your Humble Narrator

I've been giving some thought to what's been said. I'm not certain the incredulous tone of the thread right now is helping (it certainly served to demoralise me, if i'm honest) but I completely understand your concerns.

It did all balance out in Race Points but looking at that system its obviously not a great one to do this. I was balancing against a normal Human who can get +2 to two stats and nothing else and penalising based on that to give an equivalent of four more +2's, including not allowing Okoya goodies that others have such as the bonus campaign feats.

I'd like to have found some way to make it work but between an Azlant Pureblood's stats, Okoya's desire not to be nerfed and the group's desires to not be overshadowed I think I will just retcon the whole thing.

Proposed Retcon: The body you found lying in Stasis is actually Mwangi (which I suspect might change Tebati's reaction at the least). This is completely consistent with the fluff of the Order of Arioch (I appreciate your not aware of all this yourselves yet). Okoya's character will still have limited memories (which may return in time), but no mechanical penalties and a normal Human. Okoya, I appreciate you may have wanted to go Elf, if I recall correctly, but thats not really an option i'm afraid.

Male Human (Mwangi - Bas'o tribe) Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist archetype) 4

DMAK - wasn't meaning to be incredulous... but still stand by the assertion that the Azlanti pureblood +2 to all stats allowed for a degree of minmaxing over and above what the rest of us had available.

I know and appreciate that there was an attempt to haul him back down... and the penalties do make a reasonable effort at that outside of combat... but just not in combat.

Making him a mwangi is a better fit fluffwise as well in my eyes... as I can't see General Morvius allowing an Azlanti pureblood to be risked by remaining out here in peril - I'd think he'd be shipped off back to the capital pronto.

Updated as Mwangi human

Can I still leave him in stasis? ;P

Sovereign Court

Yup. Just not got to my IC's yet.

*shrug* Tebati's far from a force in combat, so it's not a personal affront. But the thing about Azlanti pureblood is that they're not meant to be 'balanced.' The whole point of them existing is that they're head-and-shoulders above everyone else. They're Khan: eugenically-gifted supermen who make everyone else look like lightweights. If you could 'handicap' one down to being the same power-level as everyone else, seems like it would miss the whole point.

You might apply the physical middle-age penalties for the sheer accretion of centuries, preservation magic or no, without including the mental bonuses, to model the mind-wipe. That would take him down to a 30-point-buy equivalent (16, 16, 15, 10, 16, 10, iirc).

Ansha wrote:

If it's just a skull you want, you could use the unfortunate inmate of the neighboring cell. ;P

I was thinking of that when I said 'skull,' actually. But I'm not sure it doesn't require another living thing to instill the memories in.

Male Human

I am thinking one of us could be the receptacle. After all, it would stand to reason that memories would need to go from one living brain to another, if they are to be transferred and preserved.

Sovereign Court

What could possibly go wrong? :)

This?

Oh oh. We might be needing a few more stasis chambers. :P

Thankfully, there's a few vacancies!

Sovereign Court

I am away on holiday from today until Wednesday the 18th. I will not be able to post during this time. We'll pick up the game on my return.

I'm presuming that a) Kieran and Tebati won't be aware of anything happening until Jakob warns us, and b) if we move to where the spirit is in our line of sight, we'll also have to make a save vs. fascination?

Sovereign Court

I've ruled your aware something has made your companions slack jawed. Yup on B. About to fly out...

Have a safe trip.

On the bright side, I don't have to make a save vs the fascination. ;)

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Hey Akirra what is a "paueliel composite longbow"? I found info on paueliel trees on the Pathfinder Wiki but no rules impact but you appear to be able to use full str with the bow w/o it being a str bod or enchanted past the +1?
Did I miss something somewhere?

Sovereign Court

Curious about that myself as I couldn't find it in Special Materials on D20PF.

Inner Sea World Guide says its stats are as darkwood but with 7 hardness and 150% as expensive.

Sovereign Court

Probably had its name changed, D20PF are annoying with that lately.

So, are you back now, AK? Kieran, you're still up in-thread.

I thought it would be a bit of exotic flair for my long sleeping ancient warrior.

It is a str rated bow, the cut and paste from HeroLab does not show it I guess.

Male Human

Yeah, I will get to it as soon as I get home. Work was a wee bit tiring these last few days.
