Alex are we safe to update our characters to 5th?

Your Humble Narrator

Yup, go ahead. Was going to run an event before you levelled but I think i'll pass this time- post all changes in discussion thread as always.

BTW we just broke ground on founding the city that will encompass the temple of Erastil. Fenna, you have been offered the lordship of this city as a member of the Lords of Kardas and granted title. You may choose the name of this city as well as how it will be developed. Please let us know what you wish to name this city?
Congratulations!

Your presence is requested to observe the wedding between Vaysh Triesente, honorable Magister of the kingdom of Kardas, and Malthir Al Dagon, rightful ruler and Baron of Kardas.
On the 11th day of Abadius, the two will wed under the holy light of Iomedae and Erastil in the Grand Cathedral of Kardas to inaugurate its completion and open it to all of the people of Kardas.
There the two will become one and be joined in Holy wedlock. Peace and love be with each of you and may your happiness be as great as the loving couple as they look forward to this wonderful day.

Aww bless...will have to shop for a present now :) How far away is that date? Also, I'll buy that potion of Cure Moderate Wounds if noone else wants it.

Its been paid for out of group cash so just add it to your profile.

My initial idea was something along the lines of Erastholme, but I think it might be better to have something welcoming to all faiths so that the it can be developed as a religious centre for the region. Any ideas?

Well, if you go down a slovak route, "Viery" means faith. You could just call it that. Or "Centrum Viery" means centre of faith. "Mesto Viery" means city of faith. "mesto veriacich" means city of the faithful. Just a couple of suggestions.

Heekataoul- Temple City.

Hmm, I kind of like the sound of Veriacich, though it might have one too many syllables to roll off the tongue. How about Vierkirche? Combining faith from the slavic, with the germanic form of church for something along the lines of Church of Faiths.

Edit: or four churches in German alone, but nevermind that,

Regarding Kalev's purchases, I'd like to suggest that the party funds pay for all potions and alchemical items. That way, we can save our money for more permanent items. As it is, the party funds are overflowing and we could all use our own gold for stat boost items.

Duke of Kardas, First Sword of Iomedae HP:51/76 AC:27 F:+14, R:+8, W:+12 CMD:23/24 P:-1 Init:+0 AOO:+16

Alex, back on post 251 we were putting in an order for alchemists fire with Bokken, a dozen containers. Can you tell us how many he has been able to make by this time? It is about a week later.
Here are a few things I think we should go ahead and buy with party funds:
Alchemists Fire x12 600gp
Potion of Neutralize poison 750gp 1d100 ⇒ 97
Scroll of Breath of Life (Fenna can cast with a 20% spell failure chance) 1125gp 1d100 ⇒ 59
Potion of Invisibility purge 750gp 1d100 ⇒ 67
Scroll of Silence 20' 150gp 1d100 ⇒ 37
2x Potions of Fly 1500gp 1d100 ⇒ 87 1d100 ⇒ 47
Total of 4,875gp - items not available 1500 = 3,375gp from party treasury.
Also who wants to take the ring of feather fall?

Your Humble Narrator

Lets say he's made six containers, with six more in a week's time.

Everyone, don't forget to add an alchemists fire to your character sheet. Fenna, you got two.

Fenna also add to your character sheet:
Potion of Neutralize poison
Scroll of Breath of Life
Scroll of Silence 20'
You might want to look at a Handy Haversack :)
Casimir, why do't you add the inviso purge potion to yours
I will add the potion of fly to mine. Also I will pick up a potion of bless.

Your Humble Narrator

Anyone who wasn't crafting, i'm happy for you to roll up three week's worth of Performance, Crafting, Professsion or Hunting gold earnage, earning half the sum of your rolls in gold pieces over the period. You have the ranks in the skills, no use for me to never let you use them past level 1 :).

After spending about a month and a half back in Swordhaven preparing yourselves both physically and mentally for the Stolen Lands after your near-death experience, you are ready to set out once more, at least for a short sojourn. The kingdom has been exceptionally stable lately- the rising numbers of nobility within Swordhaven having little to squabble over, and Kardas generally being a very pleasant place again after a period of unrest was suppressed- some unpleasant elements of the Swordhaven underworld having been arrested and locked away for the good of all by the Spymaster and Akiros, the kingdom's Warden. The rumours of trolls have the people worried, but most people assume it was just an unfortunate, isolated incident that should be remembered, but not fretted over.

The people are pleased to hear of the pending marriage between their ruler and the incredibly popular Magister, Vaysh Triesente. Quiet teasing and subtle hints are thrown towards Kalev, Fenna and Ilya- the current bachelor's of the Guardians. Jhod Kavken is less subtle in his hints, gravely reminding the three that they must think about their legacy and have family ready to succeed them- although he mostly talks to the shorter-lived Kalev about this, acknowledging that Ilya and Fenna will likely outlive even Malthir's great-grandchildren if left to die of old age. Ilya has received an formal invitation to visit the Teskerton family estate, but no one is sure whether he accepted the lady's invitation...

Take it away- where to?

Duke of Kardas, First Sword of Iomedae HP:51/76 AC:27 F:+14, R:+8, W:+12 CMD:23/24 P:-1 Init:+0 AOO:+16

Explore the hex east of SwordHaven and look to take care of this wolf problem? We have no leads on where the child went. Other than that we have the Lizard folks to the SW and the Wisps. We also have the elven ruins we were told about, I think they were in the woods. Wasn't there also some undead to the east? Seems like we could look into both of those while we were looking for the wolf.
EDIT: Looked up that thread, yes there does appear to be reports of undead rising to the east, Malthir would be very keen to address this problem after we try to deal with the wolves.

Have to adjust the wedding date, I had the calendar date wrong.

Ilya buys them a Kitchen-Aid from Swordhaven Sundries for their wedding.

Enjoying an opportunity to rest and recover, Ilya busies himself with the affairs of state during the day and crafting magical gear for the party at night.

For the past month, Kalev has been spending an increasing amount of time in the Greenbelt to the west of Swordhaven, only returning about once every week, except for when matters of state require him to stay for longer periods.

Every time, he returns with pelts and furs from his hunts, which he sells to a local merchant.

Exploring the hex to the east of Swordhaven, your exploring well into the afternoon, having as yet found no sign of the worg problem that you've heard rumours about. The exploration is going well, and your currently exploring in a small valley between two hills, when Ilya's keen hearing makes out some words carried by the wind- although he only picks up snippets of conversation...

The language is Giant, and each syllabyl is spat out as though the speaker is very angry...

Stupid Pogot... quiet! Nagrundi personally... Hrundar in charge... mission and... it out!... Hargulka... pleased with... stupid Pogot... Krahn and... not remember...rewarded!

Ilya, the conversation appears to be coming from the other side of the closest hill.

Oops. As Kalev correctly points out, the 'half check result in GP' is per week not per day- make three checks instead of 21 anyone who plans to have been busy making money in spare time...

Ilya holds up a hand to halt the rest of the group and whispers, "I hear something coming from the other side of the hill. At least two creatures are speaking Giant. One is named Pogot. They are lost in the woods, looking for a third creature. They were sent by a leader, indicating they are part of a warband or tribe. These may be some of the trolls that have been harassing our kingdom. If they have a leadership structure we should capture one alive to learn where the rest of their group is located."

Malthir pales a little and whispers to the rest of the group, Quickly, get up any defensive spells before they know we are here, Giants at the edge of our Kingdom, this is great trouble for us and our people! We should try to capture one, but surviving will be our first priority.
Malthir readies his Lance and prepares to cast Bless as soon soon as the other spellscasters start casting.

"Can you tell what exactly they are looking for?" Fenna whispers to Ilya, retrieving her decorative but sturdy aspergillum before beginning the intonations of an Azlanti prayer, "May the Last of the First Humans guard over this fierce warrior today, to protect him from the vile cruelties of the enemies of Kardas."

Start with a protection from evil for Kalev.

What does the terrain look like? Is there any place where we might get a tactical advantage - like higher ground or a bottleneck of some sort?

Your Humble Narrator

Your in a narrow valley between two fairly large hills- it sounds to Ilya like they are on the other side of the hill to your north, so if you scaled it you'd likely have higher ground and a terrain advantage. Back the way you came there is a small section of woods but you have no idea which direction the Giant-speakers are moving in.

Ilya will send out his familiar Lola to scout the other side of the hill, then return and report.

Determination washes over Malthir's face, No more running. No more letting these beasts kill our people! Trolls must pay the ultimate sacrifice for daring to tread in our Kingdom. Today we stike for the Greenbelt, today we strike for Karas! Let's come over the top of the hill mounted. When they see us try to split their forces with your entangle Kalev and then we will attack, they will have to get uphill to get to us. Fenna, can you cast the shield of faith on Casmir and I and maybe Kalev if his other spell is about to wear off. They will hear us coming, but I don't care anymore, they must die!!

I will summon the celestial spirit to my sword and place the flaming property on it.

Any chance Lola could draw with her beak a map of the terrain on the other side of the hill? She is almost as smart as Kalev, so it isn't much of a stretch. It would be useful for planning purposes.

Hey!

Kalev sends a short prayer to Erastil, Erastil, grant me the swiftness of the Great Stag.

Kalev then agrees to the plan to use Entangle on the trolls (?) to break them up.

I you restocked on your potions of enlarge, now would be an excellent time to use them. It would even out the size advantage that these things have on us.

Casimir will prepare to use a scroll of expeditious retreat right before going over the hill, and then fire up Inspire Courage when the trolls are in sight.

Male (HP 26/71, AC- 23 T- 15 FF- 18 CMD- 28, F +11, R +10, W +6, P +15*, In +3*, AOO +17) Half-orc Ranger (Guide) 7/Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 1

The magic of the potion doesn't last long, so I will wait till we reach the hill, but yes, I'm planning on narrowing the size gap a bit..., Kalev says, patting his potion belt.

Your Humble Narrator

This whole area's terrain is a mixture of rolling plains, hills and valleys, with the occasional small section of woods. Lola does her best to draw a map, but it effectively shows a hill with four ugly looking creatures standing nearby in a circle.

The Guardians ride up the hill, a few of them making spell preparations as they are about to crest the top, Kalev dismounting as to not utterly crush his steed under his enlarged weight. As you crest the hill you make out the four trolls, still apparently arguing and gesturing furiously at one another. Casimir has just enough time to begin extolling the Guardians before the Trolls roar a battle cry...

My understanding of active spells is-

Bless, 2 minutes left. PfE on Kalev, 2 minutes left. Longstrider on Kalev, 4 hours+ left. Expeditious Retreat on Casimir eight rounds left. Enlarge person on Kalev, 8 rounds left. It was suggested that Fenna cast it on Casimir but it wasn't acted on; i'll allow Fenna to have cast it on Casimir if you wish Fenna, just make sure its declared.

Map etc. up later :).

hp 66/66, AC 26/17/20, CMD 23/24, F: +8, R: +11, W: +7, init: +5, per: +10 Human Bard 6/Fighter 2

Casimir dismounts as well, knowing that his horse would never survive a hit from one of the trolls.

I'd love whatever protective magic Fenna would care to throw my way.

Duke of Kardas, First Sword of Iomedae HP:51/76 AC:27 F:+14, R:+8, W:+12 CMD:23/24 P:-1 Init:+0 AOO:+16

I would say it is a pretty safe bet that Fenna cast Shield of faith on Casimir and I, if not I would have drank one of my potions. She has like 8 1st level spells. One more level and her SOF is +3!
As Malthir climbs the hill he grabs the hilt of his sword, Iomedae, bring forth the flame to cleanse the evil that we are about to do battle with! Lance is currently out though, keeping sword sheathed until I figure out what the trolls are going to do. Lasts 5 minutes.
