I was merely pointing out that until confirmed dead... the betting line was still open.

And yes, I am sure that there will be discussions about bringing the honored dead back when this is over... that is if any of us remain to discuss it! :P

RPG Superstar 2012 - Round 2 vote is open.

Hi guys, The round 2 entries of RPG Superstar are finally public, including my Maidens of Veiled Vengeance. I would appreciate it greatly if you would drop by, leave a comment if you like and most of all VOTE for me (Jacob Trier).

Thank you in advance.

DM's Haiku-

Oh Mighty Baron,

A Paladin Falls?

(Baron of Kardas, First Sword of Iomedae HP:67 AC:27 F:+12, R:+7, W:+10 CMD:22/23 P:-1 Init:+0 AOO:+15)

He doesn't actually know that Vaysh is not with his people, I think he is torn between leaving the men defending the castle to die and a large number of his people...it is the Star Trek "No Win Scenario".

If we only had teleport...I could pull out I don't believe in the know win scenario...

(Male Taldan Human Fighter (Weapon Master) 5/ Hellknight 1 HP:67/67 AC:25 F:+10, R:+6, W:+8, CMD:24*, P:+10, I:+2, AOO:+14)

Ricter doesn't know that either, but he's gone ahead and made the assumption anyway.

Sorry Kip, some unfortunate timing on our posts.

To make up for you ninjaing me, you have a good init though ;).

No worries. Just Kip being Kip... who knows what (if anything) is the "right" choice here. :)

Check out the shiny new character class tags!

And private messaging!

And avatar tagging/sorting!

PS Did we earn any XP for our troll ambush encounter? :)

It didn't really seem like a challenge, so why would we?

I'll do total XP after this current crisis is over.

Plus i'm a bit old school with levelling, you know that. Even if you had the XP to level, I don't believe in DING and you suddenly get better.

You need downtime :)

(Male Halfling 7th level Fey Bloodline Sorcerer HP 55/55 AC 20/14/18 F+6 R+6 W+7 CMD 14 INIT +6 PER +3)

I was not petitioning for XP... and I know we need downtime to level up... I was just catching up on some "paper work", and being thorough. :)

Grand Lodge (RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16)

All right...as you may have noticed, my Superstar tag changed from top 32 to top 16. That means I'm going to be somewhat...distracted...the next three days. After that, posting should return to normal.

And once again thank you for your votes.

Congrats Jacob! :D

I have been considering using the Warpath third party book for mass combat, instead of the Kingmaker rules which frankly are a bit simplistic for my tastes.

Using Warpath instead will make the mass combat a little more wargamey so what do people think? We're still many, many levels under when I expect mass combat to become a large part of the game but having ran a small mass combat with NPC's i'm a little disappointed with the lack of options.

I will be researching Warpath in greater detail myself so I can have an informed opinion- but if people are shy of a more wargamey mass combat system we can steer clear of it. I will probably in that case, customise the kingmaker mass combat rules to suit me.

(Male Halfling 7th level Fey Bloodline Sorcerer HP 55/55 AC 20/14/18 F+6 R+6 W+7 CMD 14 INIT +6 PER +3)

Is fine with me, whatever you decide. A happy DM is always a good thing! ;)

(Male (HP 62/62, AC- 23 T- 15 FF- 18 CMD- 27, F +9, R +10, W +6, P +15*, In +3*, AOO +16) Half-orc Ranger (Guide) 7)

I don't mind "gamey" (as my board game collection can attest to), so whatever you like.

Ok i'll give Warpath a detailed once over and report my findings. I'm not expecting any mass combat in chapter 3, but I didn't expect it in this chapter either to be fair :P.

Now i've set up Shortkeys macros to automate perception and initiative rolls, i'd appreciate it if people try and remember to tell me if these bonuses change. I will do an audit at level ups but equipment purchases for example may affect these things without me noticing. Letting me know lets me edit my shiny new shortkeys (I typed the following with six letter commands, its so freaking awesome).

Currently-

Party Perception:

Casimir- 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Malthir- 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Fenna- 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19 (GM reminder- +cha mod at night)
Ricter- 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Kalev- 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 (GM reminder- terrain bond)
Kip- 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Party Initiative:

Casimir- 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Malthir- 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Fenna- 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Ricter- 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Kalev- 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 (GM reminder- Terrain Bond)
Kip- 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

My only concern is that more complex rules leads to more need to pay attention to them so you don't create some force that will get blown off the map due to the way the rules work.

I am okay either way but the nice part to these rules is that is takes about 30 minutes to learn them.

A fair comment- I do like the simplicity of the KM ones... but at the same time basing it all off just CR and HD makes it over-simplified for me.

I'm also finding it extremely swingy where one good roll obliterates a clearly superior army- I suspect that elements gets better at higher CR armies though.

(HP: 53/53 AC: 22, T:13, FF:21, CMD:16. Fort:+5, Ref:+5, Will:+7. Per:+13, Init:+0, AoO:+7)

I'm happy to give the warpath rules a go... I've not had a look at them yet, but I've heard good things.

(Male Taldan Human Fighter (Weapon Master) 5/ Hellknight 1 HP:67/67 AC:25 F:+10, R:+6, W:+8, CMD:24*, P:+10, I:+2, AOO:+14)

Like Kalev, I'm no stranger to wargaming and like the idea of a more detailed set of mass combat rules. That said, I haven't encountered Warpath before. Is the a link to an online copy?

Also, it looks like Nagrundi's readied actions wasn't just 'attack the first guardian to get into grabbing range'. That's a bit worrying. The only thing worse than charging at a huge two headed troll is charging at a huge two headed troll that has a plan.

My disguised Balor continues its cunning readied action to coup-de-grace itself, causing 100 points of damage to all of you unless you make the DC33 reflex save for 50... Just come a little closer...

Ok- drat. I hate retcons.

Kalev's AC was not up to date- he has the Amulet of Natural Armour +1 in his gear but it wasn't reflected in his AC line on the profile.

This means the first hit of Great Cleave was a miss and thus the second and third could not happen- Kalev, Ricter and Malthir please give yourselves a ton of damage back in HP. I'm not willing to allow any actions to be changed in addition to this retcon- Ricter is still fighting defensively etc.

Please always keep profiles up to date to avoid this kind of thing :).

Now I have no reason to hold back when Nagrundi gets his full attack... You have been warned.

From my MSN- made me giggle.

Jacob says
yeah, I'm negotiating with him now. It's not as if I'm using them for anthing else right now - my 2nd levels spell slots, however
Alex Kilcoyne says

you might need glitterdust to illuminate fenna
if you rout
Jacob says

Alex Kilcoyne says
you need to make sure kip doesn't save her with Vanish

I apologize for sparing us for the 70 points of damage ;)

And for the record, I had completely accepted a "Tough luck" from you, Alex, if you didn't want to retcon.

In any other combat this chapter... Maybe. But as i'm about to unleash a full attack of two claws, two bites and a potential rend, I figured you might need the HP.

I went ahead and just added the LOH's back...didn't make any other difference for me.

I reckon Nagrundi has pretty poor odds of surviving three full attacks from Ricter, Kalev and Casimir- but you never know ;).

Sorry to interrupt your desperate fight for your kingdom and the lives of your loved ones, but is there a way to "clear" my old router of the previous network settings before I get rid of it?

(HP: 53/53 AC: 22, T:13, FF:21, CMD:16. Fort:+5, Ref:+5, Will:+7. Per:+13, Init:+0, AoO:+7)

If you're still connected to it, you can clear them by selecting restore factory defaults on your router settings (possibly under the tools, or reboot menu), otherwise there's usually a pinhole button you can press with the end of a paperclip, while it's turned on, that achieves the same effect.

(Baron of Kardas, First Sword of Iomedae HP:67 AC:27 F:+12, R:+7, W:+10 CMD:22/23 P:-1 Init:+0 AOO:+15)

What magic do you speak of...what is a rrrrouuuterrrr and why are you trying to clear around it????

I know theres a school of thought that DM's should never Sunder PC's weapons.

Its obvious I don't subscribe to it i'm afraid. Especially in PF, where a destroyed weapon isn't destroyed wealth like it used to be.
