DM Alexander Kilcoyne's Kingmaker PBP- Chapter 2
Game Master
Alexander Kilcoyne
"Hellknights! You are welcome in Kardas. We have seen better times and chaos surrounds us. Kardas is the shining light that leads the way out of the chaos."
Baron Malthir, formally welcoming the Order of the Chain in Kardasholme.
Until the funeral scene plays out, Red Eyes is still taking wagers.
You know, Reincarnate works on non-humanoids. . . .

I was merely pointing out that until confirmed dead... the betting line was still open.
And yes, I am sure that there will be discussions about bringing the honored dead back when this is over... that is if any of us remain to discuss it! :P
Hi guys, The round 2 entries of RPG Superstar are finally public, including my Maidens of Veiled Vengeance. I would appreciate it greatly if you would drop by, leave a comment if you like and most of all VOTE for me (Jacob Trier).
Oh Mighty Baron,
Torn between Duty and Love,
A Paladin Falls?

He doesn't actually know that Vaysh is not with his people, I think he is torn between leaving the men defending the castle to die and a large number of his people...it is the Star Trek "No Win Scenario".
If we only had teleport...I could pull out I don't believe in the know win scenario...
All right...as you may have noticed, my Superstar tag changed from top 32 to top 16. That means I'm going to be somewhat...distracted...the next three days. After that, posting should return to normal.
And once again thank you for your votes.

I have been considering using the Warpath third party book for mass combat, instead of the Kingmaker rules which frankly are a bit simplistic for my tastes.
Using Warpath instead will make the mass combat a little more wargamey so what do people think? We're still many, many levels under when I expect mass combat to become a large part of the game but having ran a small mass combat with NPC's i'm a little disappointed with the lack of options.
I will be researching Warpath in greater detail myself so I can have an informed opinion- but if people are shy of a more wargamey mass combat system we can steer clear of it. I will probably in that case, customise the kingmaker mass combat rules to suit me.

Is fine with me, whatever you decide. A happy DM is always a good thing! ;)

I don't mind "gamey" (as my board game collection can attest to), so whatever you like.
Ok i'll give Warpath a detailed once over and report my findings. I'm not expecting any mass combat in chapter 3, but I didn't expect it in this chapter either to be fair :P.
Now i've set up Shortkeys macros to automate perception and initiative rolls, i'd appreciate it if people try and remember to tell me if these bonuses change. I will do an audit at level ups but equipment purchases for example may affect these things without me noticing. Letting me know lets me edit my shiny new shortkeys (I typed the following with six letter commands, its so freaking awesome).

My only concern is that more complex rules leads to more need to pay attention to them so you don't create some force that will get blown off the map due to the way the rules work.
I am okay either way but the nice part to these rules is that is takes about 30 minutes to learn them.
A fair comment- I do like the simplicity of the KM ones... but at the same time basing it all off just CR and HD makes it over-simplified for me.
I'm also finding it extremely swingy where one good roll obliterates a clearly superior army- I suspect that elements gets better at higher CR armies though.
Like Kalev, I'm no stranger to wargaming and like the idea of a more detailed set of mass combat rules. That said, I haven't encountered Warpath before. Is the a link to an online copy?
Also, it looks like Nagrundi's readied actions wasn't just 'attack the first guardian to get into grabbing range'. That's a bit worrying. The only thing worse than charging at a huge two headed troll is charging at a huge two headed troll that has a plan.
My disguised Balor continues its cunning readied action to coup-de-grace itself, causing 100 points of damage to all of you unless you make the DC33 reflex save for 50... Just come a little closer...
Kalev's AC was not up to date- he has the Amulet of Natural Armour +1 in his gear but it wasn't reflected in his AC line on the profile.
This means the first hit of Great Cleave was a miss and thus the second and third could not happen- Kalev, Ricter and Malthir please give yourselves a ton of damage back in HP. I'm not willing to allow any actions to be changed in addition to this retcon- Ricter is still fighting defensively etc.
Please always keep profiles up to date to avoid this kind of thing :).
Now I have no reason to hold back when Nagrundi gets his full attack... You have been warned.
Alex Kilcoyne says
poor Fenna
i was worrying she'd arrive to a rout
lol
Jacob says
"I'm here! Wait, what....we are running the other way now?"
Lol
Alex Kilcoyne says
'JUST RUN FASTER THAN THE GNOME'
kalev reckons he will need another gallant inspiration
he believes your swift actions are a luxury, not a right
(ok i made that last bit up)
Jacob says
yeah, I'm negotiating with him now. It's not as if I'm using them for anthing else right now - my 2nd levels spell slots, however
Alex Kilcoyne says
mmm you have a point
you might need glitterdust to illuminate fenna
if you rout
Jacob says
Rofl
Alex Kilcoyne says
you need to make sure kip doesn't save her with Vanish

I apologize for sparing us for the 70 points of damage ;)
And for the record, I had completely accepted a "Tough luck" from you, Alex, if you didn't want to retcon.
In any other combat this chapter... Maybe. But as i'm about to unleash a full attack of two claws, two bites and a potential rend, I figured you might need the HP.
Casimir(hp 52/52, AC 25/16/20, CMD 22/23, F: +6, R: +10, W: +4, init: +5, per: +9 Human Bard 5/Fighter 2)
On that note, I hope everyone appreciates the -2 to hit I just scared out of the big nasty.

I'm using HeroLab to keep track of the numbers. For some reason, the attack bonus is 2 higher than it is supposed to be.
Check your tabs (ie Adjust or Conditions) to see if you have something checked you shouldn't have (ie charge).

The glitterdust wouldn't be needed... Fenna's vanish expires this round. :(
Great timing. :P
And yes Kip would try and save her. :)

I went ahead and just added the LOH's back...didn't make any other difference for me.
Sorry to interrupt your desperate fight for your kingdom and the lives of your loved ones, but is there a way to "clear" my old router of the previous network settings before I get rid of it?
If you're still connected to it, you can clear them by selecting restore factory defaults on your router settings (possibly under the tools, or reboot menu), otherwise there's usually a pinhole button you can press with the end of a paperclip, while it's turned on, that achieves the same effect.

What magic do you speak of...what is a rrrrouuuterrrr and why are you trying to clear around it????

Thank you very much! That worked. Other people see "DM AK's Kingmaker"; I see "Tech Support." :D
terok:
Obviously magic too advanced for a gnollish brain to comprehend; just focus on tearing things' throats out. ;P
