I was in the JW DnD area most of my stay. I did get over to Lucas Oil for one True Dungeon run though. I had a short trip this year though only stayed one night so had two full days of fun.
Scramsax |
Not trying to control party, just a rare chance to play Scram's expertised skill. Feel free to completely ruin his little ploy to milk this poor woman for everything she has. ;)
Greycastle |
Yeah, that was... interesting. I had been having spotty issues for a while. I hope they have fixed the problems.
Greycastle |
Just to make it easier on me for conversions and the like and easier on you all as well, when we finish this it will be post dated as of today.
AL rules are changing as of tomorrow and the site maintenance really shot any chance of us getting it done under the wire which was my goal. We are close however if the site can stay up.
Is everyone amenable to this or would you like it converted?
Ravvek the Avenger |
Rav is down for whatever. ;) If we convert, we get treasure points and maybe level faster. ;) If we don't, it's all groovy.
Greycastle |
I’m not super positive about the HC either Raav, does the hard cover unlock anything to buy or would it just be treasure points to buy off of the list? I was going to put down four hours so it would t be a ton of treasure points.
Ravvek the Avenger |
Anything we discover gets unlocked, and we can also buy from the evergreen list. 4 hours would only be 2 TP, so not too bad.
Greycastle |
So, we haven't had a break in quite a long time. I'm curious from some of my more experienced DM's how many hours of content do you think we have covered? Starting essentially from after we left the kobold caves and ending now.
- the escape from the FoF initially saving the two commoners and fighting the hand-full of orcs.
- the trip back to town where you fought off the spiders
- downtime in town
- returning to the mountain where you fought another small band of orcs
- entering the caves, where you fought a rather large bear and some trogs.
- exploring the Glitterhame, including the mold room and fighting to two gricks.
- the trap Foundry entrance and dealing with the Duergar.
- Durgeddin's final rest where you fought the undead orc champion and his undead ogre sombies
- combat with the dwarven ghost Arundil and exploration of the barracks/living quarters
- and finally the interaction/combat with Idalla, the innocent Succubus librarian
My initial guess is around 8 hours but I thought I'd get some opinions. Also, remind me if I am forgetting anything.
Ravvek the Avenger |
6 - 8 hours, I would guess based on experience running this one. I am about 200 gold shy of paying for my raise dead... :( Though with the new system, I can spend the TP earned on a scroll to raise me. ^_^
Ravvek the Avenger |
1000 gp, Rav has 922 - 111 = 811 gp left. If Rav gets raised, he will make level 5 which will get him 150 gp, so he could always pay a bulk of the 189 gp back.
Scramsax |
Pitching in as well; I don't have a ton at the moment but we can use the rewards from this episode to pay for it, right?
Ravvek the Avenger |
Of course, that is assuming we go the new XP way. If we go the old XP way, then we might make enough gold to cover...
Ravvek the Avenger |
I looked it up. If I can use my TP from the new system, I can use all 8 points for the Raise Dead scroll, then no one needs to contribute! ^_^ I have enough magic items that I won't be put behind the 8-ball, so to speak.
Greycastle |
To be honest, the new system will help everyone out alot. I did some quick math and you dont make as much gold but it's not far off and you get to actually pick magic items rather than one of you picking from the very small list of stuff we got.
Each of You Get -
8 Advancement Points
8 Treasure Points
20 days of down time
2 Renown
For each time you level you gain gold per this calculation
75g for level 2-4
150g for levels 5-10
1-5 - 4 Advancement Points to level
6-11 - 8 advancement points to level
If you are interested in spending your Treasure Points now you can choose items off of this list. Depending on the loot table in the DMG is how to determine the cost. Most of the lower level uncommon items will be 8 treasure points. Then jumps to 16 for things like magic weapons, 20, and 24 respectively.
If youd like to know what something costs you can look in the AL Season 8 Players Guide or you can ask me here and I will tell you the costs of something. I have placed a * in front of the items that you can afford with 8 treasure points. You can choose to save them if you wish.
This book has unlocked
+1 longsword with Durgeddin's Mark
(something already on the Evergreen list so this is really mute)
Evergreen Unlock List Item
50 gp (Tier 1-4) 1 treasure points
*Bag of holding
*Spell scrolls

Rav is going to spend his 8 TP for the Raise Dead scroll, so no one else has to. Thank you all for the offer! Rav is 5th level now. If we continue to play this one, I can continue to run alongside you. If you guys want to play a tier 2, I am down as well! (Did everyone make 5th level?)
EDIT: Rav is updated to 5th!
Greycastle |
pretty easy, just need to figure out the % on how far into the level you are. Every 25% is a Check Point. My understanding is that if you are in the middle of two check points you can choose which way to go.
Scramsax |
Ah yeah, that was painless. I'll post my process if others need:
Currently 3rd level with 1150
1. Xp earned beyond 3rd: 250
2. Xp needed for next level: 1550
3. step1/step2=0.16
4. step3*checkpoints needed for next level(4)=0.64
5. Round up or down (I choose up!)
So Scram was 3rd with 1 advancement point.
He just earned 8 advancement points.
So yes, he bumped up 4th and 5th level assuming that one costs 4 as well. Is that right? Now 6th level will require 8 advancement points?
And definitely need to save for that portable hole! xD
Ravvek the Avenger |
3rd to 4th costs 4, 4th to 5th cost 4. So you would be 5th level with 1 checkpoint. You get 75 gp for going from 3rd to 4th and 150 for going 4th to 5th. (Total = 225 gp)
Now, going from 5th to 6th lvl will be 7 more ACP.
Greycastle |
I leave it up to you guys at this point. Our options are these
1 - Return as a group to the Forge and finish the sections still not covered.
2 - Move on to additional modules. Unfortunately some of you are now 5th and are considered Tier 2 and a couple of you are still Tier 1 so I wouldn't be able to keep the group the same for this. I'd say if we do finish the Forge, that everyone would be Tier 2.
3 - Call it done and move on
Ravvek the Avenger |
Raiden is the only one that didn't make 5th level, right? Raiden, if you want to spend the DT to "catch up" we can all hit a tier 2 together!
Ravvek the Avenger |
I think this is my first ACTUAL death in AL... ^_^ It was awesome how it came about and really thought it was very dramatic!
I am a fan of any of the season 1 tier 2s. I enjoyed A Dish Best Served Cold and In Dire Need from season 5. I have never played any of the season 2 tier 2 adventures. There are some neat CCC tier 2s as well!
Sashah |
Forgive my confusion...but I am at 2188 experience, which, is level 3?
1st of all, oops. Dunno why I thought I was 4th level
According to the math lead by Scram, I am at 3rd and 2 AP. Applying 8 AP ends with 5th and 2 AP I do believe. Please let me know if I am wrong.
Now, is there any gp --> TP conversion?
Raiden Bartok |
Raiden should be 4th level -ish, he's at 600 XP, but I gotta go find a dummy's guide to Advancement Points....
What can I do to catch up to y'all so we're all in the same tier?
Edit: I think Raiden is 4th plus one Advancement Point? Also thanks for the post, Scram, that helped.
Greycastle |
@All - I will look through some T2 modules and pick something. Give me a day or two.
@Sashah - so if you were 3rd level, you would gain 75g for 4th level and 150g for attaining 5th level. As far as a conversion, you can trade 1 TP/50g. Unfortunately this does not scale with Tier (which I completely disagree with. )
@Raiden - 600 exp would have put you at 2 advancement points into 2nd level. So adding your 8 ap’s would put you 2 advancement points into 4th level. To adavance to Tier 2, you need to be 5th. There is a catchup mechanic that allows you to spend 25 downtime to level to 5th. If you do this, don’t forget to add the additional 150g for leveling to 5th in addition to the 150g (75gx2) that you receive from 3rd and 4th levels. I only mention this because you may consider buying better armor if you have the funds to do so.
Greycastle |
@Sasha, I did some me forensic accounting on your exp using your chronicles, I believe you never added the exp from the original module we started with. “Death by a Thousand Cuts” That would be an additional 600 exp which just puts you into 4th level. There was some gold and DT associated if you want to go back in the posts to find it.
Ravvek the Avenger |
If we want to catch Raiden up without making him use the catch up, I do have a lvl 4 character that I can play for a tier 1... ^_^
Sashah |
Indeed I will. I appreciate your accounting on my behalf. Also, I have no idea what DT does so I've been ignoring it.
Ravvek the Avenger |
Sashah! Don't do that! You can use it to learn languages and tool proficiencies! I would expect that Sashah would at least want to learn more languages so that he can read more books! ^_^
Greycastle |
You also utilize your downtime for copying spells into your spellbook.
So essentially all of the adventures you’ve ran so far have given you 5 DT days which added to the 20 you just received gives you 55 days I believe.
Raiden Bartok |
Math is hard. (Not really.) I'm cool with "catching up" if someone explains how to do that. But sounds like more than just Raiden are still below 2nd tier.
Otherwise, Raiden is a blacksmith, so I guess he would practice that and make some cash with DT. Any chance I can forge my own +1 sword?
Ravvek the Avenger |
Easy! Spend 25 DT days and poof, you are 5th level (with 0 ACP)! Save up 16 Treasure Points and you can "forge your own +1 sword". Technically you are buying it from the "bosses" but flavor it however you want! (You are halfway there with 8 TP).
Uriah Lewis |
Currently 3rd level with 2223
1. Xp earned beyond 3rd: 1323
2. Xp needed for next level: 312
3. step1/step2=4
So Uriah was 3rd with 4 advancement point.
He just earned 8 advancement points. 20 DT and 2 Renown and 8 TP
Uriah can just skip ahead to level 5 now right????
This nets him 225GP. right?
Ravvek the Avenger |
Yessir!
EDIT: Wait, your math is funky. The XP needed for next level should be 1800 (2700 - 900), so 1323 / 1800 = 74% (74% of 4 = 3 ACP)
But yeah, it would take you straight to 5th with 3 extra ACP toward 6th.
