Female Human Cleric 1

Haven was taken aback when the farmers revealed themselves to be apart of the plot and found herself even further surprised when the bandits announced that their goal was capturing those that could cast spells rather than the cargo they were carrying. What could they possibly want with a priestess and a couple of wizards?

Haven pushed all that aside with a shake of her head. There would be time to ask questions when the threat had passed. Gritting her teeth, Haven drew her weapon and swung it overhead. No matter what happened, Haven wasn't going to let them take her easily.

Round 2 Initiative: Haven, Athelwyn, Fronar, Siann, Grommund, Namara, NPC, Dogwyn, Dorin
Names in gray have already went this round.

Seeing the female attacker coming directly for her around the edge of the cart and rushing by her friends Haven knew instantly she had to take action immediately. Gritting her teeth, she mustered all the energy that she could gather and drew her mace as she tugged the weapon free from her belt. As her attacker closed she brought the weapon high above her head and as soon as the woman was in range she closed her eyes and brought the weapon down as hard as she could swing it. First she heard the crunch of the metal into bone as her weapon found the skull of its victim. Haven felt a warm splash of liquid across her face as she opened her eyes and realized it was blood. Looking at the woman in front of her, she had broken her nose which now jutted to the side and a few of the woman's teeth were now missing. Through the woman's jagged smile she spit back as she staggered to catch her balance "Is that the best you got?"

OOC:

I will continue processing the rounds actions after Athelwyn post since she is up next in initiative. Everyone else I already have your actions in que.

Athelwyn repeats "Spar'le aen Deith!" before gesturing towards the woman assailing their number positioned around the cart and precious cargo. Once more the arcane energies give form to an orb of fire, but it proves to be a far cry from her previous conflagration. She manages to stifle some aggravation at botching something she had thought mastered during her novitiate days, but readies herself for another evocation for the remaining threats.

Round 2 Initiative: Haven, Athelwyn, Fronar, Siann, Grommund, Namara, NPC, Dugwyn, Dorin
Names in gray have already went this round.

Athelwyn conjures another bolt of flame and slings it around Haven toward her attacker but the bolt goes wide right and whooshes between the ambusher and Dorin and dissipates shortly there after.

Fronar flashes a devious smile as he turns his gaze and outstretched finger toward the farmer on his right and repeats the previous incantation. Another rolling blast of force energy ripples across the road toward its target. The blast slamming into the man but only causing some minor injury as he seems to shrug off the force of the blast.

Siann spies Namara taking on a number of bandits single-handed, and decides to assist... moving over to take up a position near Namara she shifts her shortsword to her offhand as she reaches into her pouch and pulls out one of her darts, sending it on its way with a whip-like motion of her arm... the dart strikes one of the farmers but it isn't enough to penetrate the leather armor the farmer is wearing beneath his farmer clothes.

Grommund fires a second arrow this time at the man commanding the "farmers". This time his arrow is much better aimed. The arrow striking the man in his arm before falling away when it struck bone.

Namara quickly strategies her position, darting forward, she slashes at the farmer on the right, keeping the other in sword range and using the pair for cover from the man in the back who seemed to be calling the shots. She brings her longsword in a wide arc toward the man but he used his crossbow to parry the blow and avoided injury.

The Ambusher knew she was in a situation where she was now out gunned and terribly wounded studied herself calling on all her training. She focused as her shortsword became a whirlwind as she disengaged her current situation "I shall be back!" she spat as she moved north toward her comrades, with lighting quickness she moved in a sprint and moved up behind Siann as she yelled to one of the farmers "Help me with this one. She's not a caster so she dies here!"

The farmer on the right quickly reacted by dropping his crossbow and pulling a scimitar while moving in a circular pattern around Namara to readjust onto Siann's position while keeping Namara in range. The farmer then brought his scimitar in sweeping arc overhead down toward the monk. Siann was caught off guard and the blade cut deeply into her belly as she quickly reacted and knocked the blade free before it could go any deeper. She staggered, she was bleeding heavily but somehow her training allowed her to hold on somehow and remain standing.

The other farmer quickly followed suit and dropped his crossbow and drew his scimitar and brought it around in a roundhouse style swing toward Namara. The warrior tried to bring her shield up to block but she was a hair too late as the blade flashed and struck her across her chest causing a red spray of blood from the wound.

The leader of the farmer's saw his opportunity, with a evil grin he dropped his heavy crossbow and pulled a mace from his belt. He stepped up to Namara first and brought the mace down with a loud grunt. The mace came down hard on Namara's ribs as she collapsed under the weight of the blow and fell unconscious to the earth below.

The leader then spun, not missing a beat as he moved forward to take a roundhouse swing at Siann. The mace striking the monk on the chin as the bone cracked under the mighty blow. Siann spun around and fell, she lay unmoving on the ground.

The leader then pointed to the rest of the group and said "Now subdue the casters."

OOC:

I will pause the round processing here to give Dugwyn and Dorin a chance to retcon in a action since circumstances have changed since the NPC's went.

Fronar shakes his finger a bit in midair, looking slightly befuddled. "That didn't work as well as it did with the archer?!" He turns his head right and slightly upward and gives the impression of talking to himself again. "Sometimes inflicting pain yourself is not the best option. Use the outline! The others will excel at their actions!". Fronar's eye widen.

"Brilliant frændi! Vilji þinn vilji!

Gnomish:
"Brilliant uncle! Your will, be done!"

Fronar seems to rejoin the current event and bellows out to the rest of the party, "If you can, hold your action while I show you the Light!" He brings his hands together and works them similar to molding a snowball. A glow pulses from inside his hands and disappears as both hands jet upward like he was praying to the sun god. Followed immediately by wiggling his fingers while slowly lowering his arms. An action simple enough any child would think he was motioning for rain or snow falling.

"Incertus, Pulcher, Imperio!"

Draconic:
"Uncertain, beautiful things, I command!"

As Fronar's fingers "twinkle" down, small lights light a 100 fireflies shining randomly falls over the area where the combat is taking place. As the lights fade a violet light outlines people in the area.

OoC:
Fronar casts Fairie Fire

Fairie Fire: Each object in a 20-foot cube within range is outlined in blue, green, or violet light (your choice). Any creature in the area when the spell is cast is also outlined in light if it fails a Dexterity saving throw. For the duration, objects and affected creatures shed dim light in a 10-foot radius.
. Any attack roll against an affected creature or object has advantage if the attacker can see it, and the affected creature or object can't benefit from being invisible.

The are affected is a 20' square with corners of L15, O15, L18, and O18.

Dex save for enemies = DC 14

I offer a suggestion to all party members acting before Fronar delay until after him and utilize "advantage" on all enemies that fail their save, except Farmer 1... who is out of the area of effect.

Haven felt fear tug at her heart as she saw both Siann and Namara go down with a single stroke from the bandit leader's weapon. Her feet wanted to trail backwards, leaving all this behind, but her mind refused to let that happen. No. If you run away, they die. A cleric of Lathander would never let that happen. Be brave. Haven took a steadying breath to both calm her nerves and clear her mind. If she was going to get through this, it wouldn't be alone; she would need to call upon the power of her deity. With that in mind, Haven raised her amulet to the sky, her prayers answered in the form of a single ray of blindingly bright white light that fell from the heavens.

Mechanics:
Casting Guiding Bolt on the leader.

Do spells crit in 5e? 8d6 at level 1 seems a tad bit excessive. Gonna roll extra damage anyway just in case. Guiding Bolt also gives the next person to attack the same guy advantage if we need it.

OOC Athelwyn:
Yes, at least before your action takes effect. Even though Haven and Grommund posted their actions, I do not believe that DM Asmodeus will resolve them until Dorin's and Dugwyn's are resolved. That is why I normally just wait it out until I am close to my turn in initiative. DM Asmodeus resolves them piecemeal per initiative order in my other game.

Round 3 Initiative: Haven, Athelwyn, Fronar, Siann, Grommund, Namara, NPC, Dugwyn, Dorin
Names in gray have already went this round.

Seeing the ladies go down, Dugwyn cast his bow aside and bounds from the backside of the wagon. In a full dwarven sprint he runs up on the backside of the ambusher as he draws his handaxe.

Dorin sees Namara and Siann fall, so he rushes to the aid of his companion in arms. Running up along Dugwyn on the backside of the ambusher. Swinging down with his powerful maul into the back of the ambusher's skull as it pops open like a melon and the woman falls to the ground like a tree that had fallen to the woodssman's axe.

Haven raised her amulet to the sky, her prayers answered in the form of a single ray of blindingly bright white light that shot forth from her holy symbol. The blinding ray shot between Dorin and Dugwyn, over the fallen ambusher, over the fallen Siann as if to taken revenge for the fallen woman. The ray struck the bandit's leader directly in the face and neck area as his face began to sizzle and burn as he yelled in agony. The look of fear in his eyes. The man's skin blistered and contorted. He staggered but as the ray dissipated he still stood even if barely, the look of fear in his eyes and the wobble in his legs told the story of a man on the verge of death. A mystical glittery dim light still covering the man after the effects of the ray.

Athelwyn ignores the retreating pair ploughshares-to-swords in favor of assisting Haven with the fallen form of Siann. Her experience is notably limited, but she's well read enough to know that stopping the bleeding is of crucial importance at this juncture. While she works, she occasionally glances up to the fallen form of the fellow that had been barking orders at his apparent underlings. Then Athelwyn asks—a bit disarmingly given the severity of the task she and Haven are undertaking, "What was that foolhardy bit about taking the magic-users alive? "If subterfuge is going to earn me a split chin from a bludgeon, I think I might stick with them preferring to take me alive," Athelwyn jokes quietly, stealing a glance to the injury on Siann's face that felled her.

"But what are we to do with a captive ourselves?" Butchering the man where he lay dying did not sit well with Athelwyn, even in light of his murderous attempts against their number. Their situation was a bit strange, however—none present were from or familiar with their current locale so far as Athelwyn knows. "What if he and his proclivities are known to the locals? I don't wish to put the blade to him as it were, but I worry that we might be returning a trussed up viper to his own nest."

As the group accessed their immediate situation. Both Namara and Siann was currently unconscious but stable. As was the bandit leader. Fronar grabs a single scrawny branch not able to conceal even his own small face. He places it carefully on one of the archers and steps back. He scratches his head a moment while surveying the scene. After a short second of reflection Fronar grabs the small foliage and moves it a couple inches. "There! That should do it. How's everyone else doing? Are we ready to tally forth?"

As he walked toward the cart it was obvious, despite the gnome's scrutiny, that the branch would most like attract the attention of someone looking in that direction, rather than serve as some sort of "camouflage" to hide the body.

As the group finished putting the bodies off to the side of the road and loaded their wounded and unconscious on the cart and draped the bandit leader over the back of the mule behind Pip the group made haste toward the small town of Milborne. After about an hour of travel Siann awoke from her injuries, after another two hours the bandit leader awoke, whom the group was quick to tie up and gag as he started to rouse from his slumber, and finally when the group was in sight of the buildings of Milborne Namara finally awoke as well.

Battered and bruised the group took in the sights of the small town to plan their next move.

Milborne is a small farming town of approximately 160 people. The buildings are almost all made of wood. Virtually everyone makes a living from farming or copper/lead mining in the southern Blanrydes. It is pretty simple to quickly realize that the community is fairly isolated, and strangers to the area probably are fairly rare. As a result, new visitors are probably almost certain to be noticed pretty quickly and likely to be a subject of gossip and speculation by the locals. Especially with a bound man in tow.

What do you do?

Shaking her head, she was about to speak when Athelwyn spoke up. Listening with narrowed eyes, Siann let her have her speak, then slapped her dagger back into its scabbard with a growl, "Fine. The bandit leader struggled against his restraints as Siann threatened to knife him, if the gag was not firmly in place it looked as if he would have had words for his captors. A hate filled his eyes and confirmed that their were no redeeming qualities to the man. Once Siann withdrew he taunted the woman with his gaze as if to almost laugh at her. From the old scars on the bandits body it was not the first time he had seen battle and his hardened stance even said more so to the fact.

Caught up in their current discussion the group almost didn't notice a surge in activity in the town. The tavern that was located by the smithy was suddenly bursting with activity. A young man comes running out of the tavern at top speed toward the mill house once there you can see him shouting something at a man and pointing toward the tavern and the man quickly follows, as they get closer back to the tavern you can see that the man that was fetched from the mill house looks to be a strong middle aged fellow, ruddy-cheeked and barrel-chested, with floury side-whiskers showing the same gray that flecks his thinning hair. They disappear into the tavern's doorway and are gone from view.

The activity also seems to catch the eye of a man standing outside of the carpenter's place. An older gentleman around fifty who appears by his movements to be badly lame on one leg with a black mop of hair and a lean tall frame. He has two huge retriever-like hunting hounds who accompany him. The man wears leather armor and looks to have a sword on his side and a shield along with a bow and quiver strung across his back. The fletching's on the arrows are bright red which stand out as very unusual. The man watches the events unfolding until the men re-enter the tavern at which time he just looks down while shaking his head and pets one of his hounds and begins moving some new made furniture from outside to inside the shop.

Grommund approaches the older man outside the carpentry. "Good day. I'm with the caravan just come intae town. We were beset by brigands on the road and captured one of their number. Is there a law man or the like around these parts that we might hand him over to?"

Male Mountain Dwarf Ranger (Soldier)/5; HP: 61/61; AC: 19; Initiative: +3 (Adv); Passive Perception: 13; Inspiration: 1

From the map, the Carpenter is a significant way up the road from the Tavern. I was suggesting that we stop the cart and group outside the Tavern. Are we entering the town from the Bridge, the Ford, or from the East Road?

Night Below
Milborne

Current Map: Link To Map of Milborne

You are entering from the east road. The tavern with all the activity is pretty much the first building which is located between the smith and the warehouses. The carpenter's is just a short distance north.

Male Mountain Dwarf Ranger (Soldier)/5; HP: 61/61; AC: 19; Initiative: +3 (Adv); Passive Perception: 13; Inspiration: 1

Got it, thanks. I suggest we park at the Tavern, and this will certainly cause some of us to interact with the issues going on inside, and Grommund can easily take a few steps over to the Carpenter. Thoughts?

Male Human Ranger/4

As Grommund breaks from the group and heads into the town proper and toward the man at the carpenter's shop he is greeted warmly by the man before him.

"Good day to you my esteemed dwarven stranger. A caravan you say?" Garyld scans the area from which Grommund approached from. "You mean that small group with the cart on the edge of town? Not much of a caravan is it? Can't say we get many 'caravans' round these parts so I guess your group could qualify." he says curiously.

"Had some trouble out on the road did you? Well I don't know if it matters much but I am the constable of this fine town. If you have a prisoner then bring him and I will take possession of him. But first I am going to need to know a little bit more of what exactly happened out there on the road." he says as one eyebrow arches up.

He then waves at the impromptu 'caravan' to come forward into the town and toward him. Other townsfolk that are scattered around the area begin pointing and whispering under their breath. Children are ushered into nearby shops and homes.

"Don't be alarmed by the locals. They are friendly enough. They just don't see many strangers out here in these parts. Kinda isolated if you know what I mean. Especially when the strangers are an entire group of armored adventuring types. By the way what did you say your name was again."

Sitting in the wagon, Siann returns the man's glare with equal measure, her own promising a delightful array of painful deaths. But, she soon tires of that sport and lifts her sore limbs up and out of the wagon.

Taking a few strides away, she begins a short series of stretching forms as she watches Grommund walk down to the village.

She straightens when she sees the man Grommund is talking to signal for them to come down to the village.

"Well, looks like Grommund's made a friend." she says, then begins to walk down to the village.
