The boys take quite a start from Siann and Dorin approaching and seeing the rest of the group behind them.

The boy answers nervously "All four of them made growling sounds and grunted. I guess they were talking."

One of the other boys splashed water on the main one again "I thought there were DOZENS!!!" he laughed as did the others.

The main youth answers "I am Perrin, and I swear to you that they were blue skinned. Honest. They were small, around 4 foot tall. With flat faces, wide mouths and pointed ears. They carried shields and old scrappy armor. They had hand axes with them. I saw the creatures at dusk up near the headwaters of this creek."

The others jeered and poked fun at how the boy had stretched the truth. He insists, despite any skepticism, that their skins were blue however.

To determine what the boy is describing. No peaking unless you make the check.

DC 15 Nature Check:

The boy is describing goblins.

Siann spits to the side, "Goblins." then fixes Perrin with her steely gaze, "You'll lead us to where you saw these goblins." her tone suggesting it wasn't really a request.

Dorin nods, as his bushy eyebrow arches.

Aye, boy! Where did ya see the filth?

Making their departure with the boy, the group of adventurers began the hike following the creek upstream for the next several hours. The area is dotted with abandoned farms quickly falling into ruin. The ground becomes increasingly waterlogged as you approach the headwaters, slowing movement by half and making the trek even more miserable. "It was here." the boy says and then runs off, back in the direction that you came.

Once at the location that the boy had led you to, you begin investigating and searching the area over the next two hours, it is around 3pm in the afternoon when you find some boot tracks in the ground that is solid enough to have them and begin heading in that direction.

Soon in the distance you can see a small hole in a nearby hillside with two goblins standing guard outside. They are both males wearing ragged studded leather armor and carrying makeshift shields and shortswords. The poor fellows don't even have a bow or javelin between them.

After getting as close as you dare without being seen you notice the goblins, strangely enough, are indeed, blue. At least, their faces are painted with some kind of blue substance. They also have tattoos on their foreheads but from this distance you can not make out the design.

They are doing their guard duty haphazardly and not really paying attention, one seems to be paying more attention to a bug crawling on the ground and the other is using his shield to reflect the sunlight toward the other in a very aggravating way.

"Don't suppose any of you are capable of producing goblinoid speech?" Athelwyn asks, doubtful to the point of being rhetorical. "Never had to wade through a goblin-infested muck before. They don't seem to be very interested in maintaining their vigil, however, so maybe we can overpower them quickly—and quietly."

Athelwyn's eyes flit inquisitively between the pair of dwarves and Siann. Dwarves and goblins were supposedly natural enemies, so she hopes Dorin or Grommund have some experience dealing with—even should dealing mean slaying—the diminutive creatures. Whatever the case might be, her spells would be at the ready. She doesn't relish the thought of effectively exterminating a den of the creatures, but by most accounts she's ever heard they were unlikely to be open to a friendly discussion.

Dorin whispers to the others.

They're crafty little buggers, t'be sure. But, they're not so hard t'kill. Be wary of traps an' such once we advance. Let's take out these two from range if'n we can.

From their hidden vantage, Athelwyn intones "Spar'le aen deith!" and unleashes an orb of pure fire on the goblin preoccupied with the bug on the ground. The fiery projectile hisses through the air, dispersing smaller motes and embers as it goes before ending its flight. She steps back from the rest of the group immediately after, still half-crouched, to give the others room to advance while she watches the aftermath of her attack (somewhat uncomfortably and awkwardly in her muck-stained waders).

OOC:

Firebolt at one of the gobbos, then move back 10 feet or so; preferably behind some sort of cover.

Mechanics:
Firebolt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Advantage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Fire Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 6
