Felgar raises his axe high once more, leveling a long slow arc back at the derro that is sidestepped. Rutter in turn, moves the sideways table to block the opening, and steps up next to the enemy, drawing his blade as he moves. The silver wolf strikes again, but this time his fangs find purchase, which he uses to tug the derro off his feet. Unfortunately for Neva, all this does is cause her bolt to fly above, in the place where the derro was still standing, and off down the tunnel. Copper's held shot goes off after he steps back a bit, and strikes home in the derro's hip.

The derro swings futiley from the ground at the nearby legs of Rutter, but his attack is awkward from the ground, as a wolf harries his ankle.

Yes, Copper, I will use your previous shot, because if you had waited and rolled it now, it would have been the same (and I know how the dice roller on this likes to work well ONLY when the roll isn't used or important.)

Copper turns away from the derro just in time for Felgar's axe to chop heavily into the prone figure, splashing blood everywhere. He wipes the bit of blood that landed on his cheek from his face, looking a bit displeased with it getting on him.

I assumed that would kill him. If it doesnt, all Copper is going to do is reload his crossbow, and stay out of the way, lol.

As the wolf continues to snap at the derro, Pravlox steps up (5' to H7) and takes a swing with his spear.

As the derro went down to the floor, Neva began to crane her neck. She could barely catch a glimpse of the wretched thing between the wolf, Rutter, Pravlox and his spear and, especially, Felgar and his axe.

As the dwarf's blade gave a wet thud, she winced and muttered, "Told you."

She reloaded her crossbow and quickly checked the eastern and southern approaches to the room.

Felgar brings his heft weapon down across the middle of the derro on the ground, splitting his torso from his waist. A fierce and cruel blow, and a painful death, had Rutter not compassionately drawn his knife across its throat. The kukri finishing it of speedily. The others are ready to continue the fight if necessary, but it proves not to be as such. The wolf is the only one that harries further, before realizing the legs it shakes are no longer attached to the upper half.

The wolf chews on the leg for a second before spitting it out in disgust and looking at Pravlox for further directions. The halfling chuckles, throws his latest pet a bit of meat from his rations, and proceeds to search the dead pieces of the corpse for anything useful.

When Copper is assured that Felgar's injuries are not life threatening, the young arcanist will begin searching the room for anything that could be useful or valuable, looking to Rutter, to see if the halfling would mind helping with the search.

Take 20 on Perception, giving me a 21, unless anyone is in a particular hurry to get moving, in which case, it's a 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Copper looks over the room in detail as the others tend wounds, inspect the body, and go over the general contents of the room. Most of the room contains common alchemical equipment, and each of the vats are full of foul-smelling, rendered fat. On closer look you notice that the door to the south is boarded up from this side, like the people on this side don't want something on the other side coming through. As Copper looks the room over, he notices that there is a hidden door to the north, beside the northmost vat. It looks to be built roughly the same as the other disguised doors you have found in this place.

The door appears to follow the same pattern of the other hidden doors. It is simple, ulocked, and untrapped, appearing to be more existent out of convenience than out of hiding anything of value or privacy.

Guessing by the silence that you are opening the secret door?

The door, also like the others, is a short dark little tunnel. This one leads northward in a roughly 'S' shape, broken by a small set of steps leading down, and ending at a dead end. As before, Rutter finds no indication of locks or traps, in what is obviously another secret door at the end of the short S hallway.

The door opens and immediately you are staring down the end of a tall bookcase. The room is roughly twenty by thirty feet, the length running from west to east, on the latter side rests a single door. The door you came in is about ten feet from the east wall. The room is dominated by two wide, freestanding bookshelves, running north to south, which are filled with row upon row of tomes and scrolls.

The group goes through the room, eyeing the shelves and their contents, except for Neva. She takes a quick assesment of the scene before pressing the others to move on with the goal.

As you all look through the books, they initially appear to be related to death, magic, death magic, anatomy, diseases and plagues. Copper tries to get an idea of what the collection could be worth, or even if any of them look to be of exceptional value, but he doesn't seem to be able to estimate what it's all worth.

Pravlox skims the selections with the aid of a spell, and is rewarded for his efforts as he turns to the second shelf. A faint aura emanates from one of the books, a fat book on human anatomy, and upon closer inspection it turns out to be two smaller faint auras. Wedged within the pages of the book, a picture book with a fair amount of detail, are two loose papers scrawled with what is easily magical script.

WooHoo! I'm back.. at... work. Huh, maybe I'm not as happy as I thought.

The door seems harmless enough. As Felgar rushes in, and as soon as he does the nauseating mixture of decay and strange chemicals fills the air of the large room ahead. Moving in, glinting saws, pliers, long stitching needles, and other surgical equipment can be seen organized on shelves and benches along the walls. A sturdy wooden table dominating the center of the room supports a large humanoid shape - a thing stitched together from a patchwork of dozens of different bodies. The thing would stand nearly seven feet tall, if it rose. Upon further examination, the head stitched to the body is strangely small for its massive frame - a head crowned with brown hair and bearing a distinctive scar upon his left cheek and having solid Shoanti features.

Could we possibly have a zoomed out complete map or something. This place is starting to confuse me a bit with all the twisting tunnels, so Id like to try to put everything in perspective.

Sorry Copper, thinking about it, I don't think I'm going to zoom out. If the maps are confusing from a bird's eye view, just think how turned around it must make those in them. I think it helps to add to the scene.

As the group makes their way into the room, slowly and carefully, they investigate the surroundings. Peering down the nearby hallway, Rutter sees that it turns to the north, and beyond that it is hard to tell without walking it with a light in hand. Pravlox, wary of what lies on the table senses no magic emanating from it. Whatever foul rituals needed to make the stitchwork creature rise must not have been applied just yet.

"Whoa! Is that the Shoanti's head? Maybe Neva should remove it. No need to mutilate his remains more..." He looks to Neva. "...if you think you can remove it cleanly. Though I guess it don't get much cleaner than an axe. Yeh, nevermind. Go ahead."

He turns back to the hallway to watch the group's flank as Felgar undertakes his surgery.

Neva wasn't sure what to do with all this butchered and twisted flesh. She responded to Rutter and Felgar with a long grimace.

"Uh, I don't know what we should do. It looks like we need the head, but I'm not sure about the rest. Let's leave the poor...thing alone for now, Felgar. I understand that you want to prevent it rising up as a foe, but this flesh has suffered enough."

Neva is torn between not further mauling a corpse and destroying an abomination, so she won't physically restrain the dwarf if he's committed to the beheading.
