Aardvark DM |
I have been behind in updates, but Copper, it's your turn. You go after Rex. You made a perception check earlier, but I didn't think it was your turn. If that's all you were doing, I'll continue on.
Copper Fratello |
I figured the putting the wand away and picking up a stone were each a move action. If I can do more, then I'll cast Light on the stone. But yes, that's all I had intended for my turn.
Aardvark DM |
Sorry, my bad, I missed the wand and stone as actions. Sometimes I gloss over the flavor text and go straight for the ooc breakdown of what it all means. I'm fine with the, grabbing a stone as part of the casting of the spell. It's like merely reaching out and grabbing the target of a spell that is cast on an object touched. Update incoming (been getting wrapped up in reading all the 5E talk as well).
Aardvark DM |
Don't forget Pravlox, you are delaying again, and may forego your turn once more.
Rex, feeling the effects of the poison coursing through him, makes a weakened strike at the derro. Copper, weakened as well, but by the bug's drinking of his very life, takes a breather as he prepares something that could disrupt the dark in the other room.
The unwounded derro says something to the one with the limb out of sorts. "Mikallak gunar jauyb, neyht buivkl." The gravely wounded one steps back away from Felgar, but not before taking a last ditch swing at the dwarf, which falls just shy of its mark. Unable to avoid the brawl, the second one now also ditches his crossbow, taking up his strange club to swing at the halfling, who easily skips aside the blow.
Derro 1 attacks Felgar 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17, miss.
Derro 2 attacks Rutter 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10, miss.
Reminder: all unmodified areas are dim, 20% miss chance.
Pravlox - Delaying.
Rutter - Picked up weapons, moved in
Neva - Draws silver dagger, attacks Bug2
Felgar - Chopped into D1, hard.
D3 - Moving in the dark
Rex - Misses D1
Copper - Sheathes wand, casts light
D1 - attacks Felgar, 5' step
D2 - drops crossbow, draws club, attacks Rutter
Aardvark DM |
It's working fine for me. Anyone else?
Rutter |
Round 5, 18 HP, AC 17
Surprised that the derro that Felgar nearly dismembered is still standing, Rutter tries to finish him off before starting on the other.
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 59
Attack1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage1: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 67
Attack2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage2: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Felgar Stoutaxe |
Round 5: HP 29/33, AC: 18, Power Attack, Overhand Chop, Blessed, Bulls Strength
Felgar steps up to X3 to attack Derro 2.
This assumes that Rutter finished off Derro 1. If not, my attack will be on him.
Axe Att: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Axe Dam: 1d10 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
Aardvark DM |
Sorry, should have said so up front, but Rex has two more rounds of poison to save. It ends as soon as he makes the save. If not, he takes 1d2 ⇒ 1 Str damage in round 6, and 1d2 ⇒ 1 Str damage in round 7.
As the greatly injured derro backs up, Rutter slips past the swing leveled at him to stab the first one in the gut. The blow is too much for him with the huge gash in his shoulder, and he crumples. Rutter pulls his blade out quick enough to strike at the hand of the one that swung at him, while he is still extended from the attack. He makes a slash across the derro's hand.
As the others wait in the tunnel to move in once they can see again, Felgar steps up and actually removes the outstretched arm at the bicep. The derro screams out in pain, as he drops to one knee, just shy of crumpling to the ground.
Felgar glances over toward Rutter just in time to see another one of the beings at the top of the stairs take aim with its repeating crossbow and fire at the halfling. He hits Rutter in the calf, a bolt sticking from his leg, as he feels the sting of his body fighting the toxin that coated the weapon.
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 (with the movement penalty included)
Attack on Rutter 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21, damage 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 and DC 14 Fort save vs Poison or take 1d2 ⇒ 2 Str damage.
Rex - Misses D1
Copper - Sheathes wand, casts light
Neva - Delayed
Pravlox - Delayed
D1 - dead
D2 - drops crossbow, draws club, attacks Rutter
Rutter - Picked up weapons, moved in
Felgar - Hit D2, hard
D3 - Moved to T8, shot Rutter
Rutter |
Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
After he adjusts to the pain of the bolt in his calf, Rutter feels a lingering, duller pain running up his leg. "These dirty jerks are using poison on their bolts."
Pravlox |
Fort save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Fort save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Rex will move to U6 and try to reach out and bite D1.
attack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
damage 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Aardvark DM |
Reminder: all unmodified areas are dim, 20% miss chance.

D1 - dead
D2 - drops crossbow, draws club, attacks Rutter
Rutter - Picked up weapons, moved in
Felgar - Hit D2, hard
D3 - Moved to T8, shot Rutter
Rex - Misses D2
Copper, to throw the rock with light, treat it like a grenade-like weapon. Aim for a square, ranged attack vs AC 5, range increment 10', take any darkness penalties (50% miss chance). If you miss, it will be off by 1d8, and number of squares as determined by range increment.
Copper Fratello |
Round 6?, 18/18hp, Mage Armor, 3 Con damage
Still slightly dizzy from the sudden loss of blood, Copper closes his eyes several times, trying to stop the room from spinning. Once his vision is clear enough to throw the light-laden stone, he rears back and throws it into the room.
Aiming for square V15, or V14 if I cant draw LOS to V15. Should be 30-35ft away, meaning I need to hit a AC 9(V14) or 11(V15), right?
Miss chance, low is bad 1d100 ⇒ 47
Throw the rock 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Well, that sucked. :P
Aardvark DM |
Sorry, it's round 7. Misdirection 1d8 ⇒ 8 (east), distance 4 squares off (limit 2 due to terrain).
Copper's throw manages to lob the rock into the darkened confines of the room, providing light as it travels. The stone flys into the room, smacks into the edge of the workbench in the middle, and rolls back toward the east wall, the darkness creeping back in as the light rolls away from its source.
Neva - Delayed
Pravlox - Delayed
D2 - drops crossbow, draws club, attacks Rutter
Rutter - Picked up weapons, moved in
Felgar - Hit D2, hard
D3 - Moved to T8, shot Rutter
Rex - Misses D2
Copper - Throws lighted rock into room D5
Forgot a few, T16 and U17 should still be dark as well.
Neva Vallastoi |
Round 7: Hp 20/20, Blessed
"Whoa, steady there, Copper", Neva said as the young man almost fell over with the throw.
"I'll watch down this way...you and Pravlox go help the others."
Neva said all this as she put away her knife and pulled out her crossbow. It didn't occur to her that this wasn't a birth and thus she wasn't in charge.
Shealth knife, and either draw or pick up crossbow. That's two moves, no time to load or ready, but I'm going to keep my eyes to the southeast towards where Copper threw the light.
Pravlox |
Round 7
Pravlox will move to Q6, kicking himself for forgetting that he could also cast the light spell, as he picks up a small piece of debris himself, casting light on it, and preparing to throw it next round.
Aardvark DM |
Neva prepares her crosbow for anything coming from the room ahead, as Pravlox moves toward the bulk of the fight in the other room.
The one-armed derro, looks beaten at first, but instead snarls as he draws a short sword with his left hand and lunges at Rutter. The creatures eyes are wide with madness. His blade comes close to stabbing the halfling, but a subtle twist causes the weapon to leave only a gash in the sleeve of his jacket instead.
Attack vs. Rutter 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Rutter - Picked up weapons, moved in
Felgar - Hit D2, hard
D3 - Moved to T8, shot Rutter
Rex - Misses D2
Copper - Throws lighted rock into room D5
Neva - Sheathes weapon, draws crossbow.
Pravlox - Moves and casts light
D2 - draws short sword, attacks Rutter
Copper Fratello |
Round 8, 18/18hp, Mage Armor, 3 Con damage
"Good idea." Copper responds to Neva as he shakes off the remainder of the dizzyness. Turning towards the room where the rest of his companions fight, Copper takes up his crossbow once more and loads it as he moves towards the curtain of darkess.
Move me to R5, please. Move action to reload crossbow, move action to move?
Rutter |
Round 7, 13 HP, AC 17
Rutter swings out of the way of the one-armed derro's swing, and steps closer to the wall to keep the derro pinned in between himself and Felgar.
He swings both kukri at him, eager to finish him off and start looking for the one with a crossbow.
"How many more are there?" he asks Felgar. He repeats the question in a whisper to Copper, "Are there more coming behind us?"
Concealment attack 1 (low 20 misses): 1d100 ⇒ 40
1st attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18; damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Concealment attack 2 (low 20 misses): 1d100 ⇒ 64
2nd attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10; damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Copper Fratello |
Copper responds in kind, "Just one over here, but he loosed a pair of stirges. They're dead, but the derro made the room dark and we haven't found him yet. Neva is going to watch our backs while Pravlox and I come help you. Fighting these two fronts was not a good idea, I think."
So not that I enjoy losing points of Constitution or fighting guys with SR, but I gotta say this has been an enjoyably difficult fight. Since Im not being as effective as I could be against regular guys, it's been fun trying to come up with other stuff to do that still helps out, while still playing up the Con damage, lol.
Aardvark DM |
Rutter steps back as part of his dodging the derro's attack, before he performs a counter-strike at the thing. His kukri finding the gut of the creature as it topples forward, and his other blade cutting a precautionary second swing against the falling thing.
Felgar, his way cleared of any opposition, moves toward the new arrival. The derro shrieks at his predicament, outnumbered and alone, and turns to hurry off down the way he came.
Rex - Misses D2
Copper - Throws lighted rock into room D5
Neva - Sheathes weapon, draws crossbow.
Pravlox - Moves and casts light
D2 - dead
Rutter - Picked up weapons, moved in
Felgar - Hit D2, hard
D3 - withdrew, back the way he came.
Aardvark DM |
Sorry, yes, I just didn't update after Rex and Copper, as they didn't affect the battle per se.
Neva Vallastoi |
Whoops, sorry! Round 8
Neva swore softly under her breath as she fumbled to load her crossbow. That didn't take too long!, she berated herself sarcastically. Trying to calm herself, she trained her weapon to the southeast.
"Everybody alright back there?" she called over her shoulder to the others.
Load, ready action to fire at foes in area D5, and 5-ft step to Q10.
Aardvark DM |
Everyone goes before the enemy does. Will anyone try to run him down, or are you letting him go?
Felgar Stoutaxe |
I suggest that we get everyone together, search both rooms thoroughly and decide on a plan of action.
Rutter, let's search the room. Then we can be catchin' up with the others.
He yells over to Neva.
We be fine mi'lady! Be right there!
Rutter |
Rutter started after the derro, but realized he was at a disadvantage in the dark. "Bah! He's going to have time to collect all his little blue friends!"
He goes over and makes sure the other two are dead and searches each of them. "There was another down the other hall, but Neva and Copper couldn't look for him. Why don't you check it with them. The... dragon and I will keep watch on the stairs here and search the room. Have Copper call me if you need us."
If Pravlox (or Copper) brings a light in, Rutter will wait to search the room until then, otherwise he'll give it a once over in the low-light.
Perception to search derro 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Perception to search derro 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Perception to search room (no mods - apply as needed): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Neva Vallastoi |
Not that I see, Felgar. Let's go have a look around, though. I'll cover you, if you don't mind.
Planning to follow Felgar into the southeastern room, keeping her crossbow ready. We'll need to search and report back.
Copper Fratello |
Following Felgar and Neva, Copper pops several knuckles on his left hand and stretches his neck, a look of annoyance in his eyes, "Let's find that little blue thing and kill it."
If these two guys that we've seen are actually the same guy looking for a way out, Im gonna lol.
Aardvark DM |
Rutter pores over the contents of both the dead and the room, looking for anything worthwhile. The bodies had nothing on them but their weapons and armor, but the wall, the wall has a strange break in the moss that looks to be the outline of a door. The rest of the room is filthy, straw pallets with the stink of sweat and mud, cover the floor. On the table is a makeshift clay maze and some crude dice.
In the other room there are three wooden tables, the furthest of which bears a dead body. Lying sated atop it are four more of the stirges, looking to have just had their fill. On the east wall is a wicker cabinet, sitting open, with an empty straw-lined cage inside. This was where the other derro had let out the two stirges that attacked Copper. There is a crude tunnel running to the southwest, and another leading up a set of stairs to the east.
Neva Vallastoi |
"Let's deal with these little bloodsuckers first, Felgar" Neva said grimly, raising her crossbow. "If they've been drinking, it might mean that this body wasn't dead when those blue folk got hold of it."
If Felgar and the others are ready to deal with the stirges, Neva will try to get close enough to coup de grace with her crossbow. If the flappy freaks move, I waste 'em...with my crossbow.
Finally, I'd like to do a quick Heal check on the body to learn type, cause of death, etc?
Heal check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Copper Fratello |
Forgot to mention earlier that Copper was going to give his Light-bearing stone to Rutter.
Seeing the stirges in the room gives Copper pause, though he conintues into the room with Neva and Felgar anyway, crossbow at the ready.
Felgar Stoutaxe |
Round 6???: HP 29/33, AC: 18, Power Attack, Overhand Chop, Blessed, Bulls Strength
Felgar attacks the nearest Stirge.
Aye, mi'lady!
Axe Att: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Axe Dam: 1d10 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18
DM Aardvark...not sure if Bulls Strength and Blessed are still in effect? Adjust accordingly, if not.
Aardvark DM |
Neva, nice KoDT statement.
The body on the table is somewhat filthy and smelly, unshaven in its vagrant appearance. The body looks to have received a simple knife across the throat, possibly while unaware. The stirges are easy for Felgar to clear away. After his first swing, splattering one of them and all the blood it drained, the others try to slowly crawl away and are easily dispatched without even breaking a sweat.
Felgar, I think Bless might be gone, as I think it's mins/level. But I think Bull's Strength is 10 mins/level.
