The king is dead! In the Varisian port city of Korvosa, the death of a monarch leads to chaos, and only a small group of heroes can hope to save the city from its own darkest tendencies.

Casting: When casting a spell defensivly if you fail you do not automaticly lose the spell, rather you provoke an attack as you normally would for not casting defensive. If you are hit you must make a concentration check dc 10+damage taken if you fail this check you lose the spell.
Rolls:
Many rolls will be handled by the GM in secret.(don't worry, I don't fudge.)
Any result that can influence the character behavior will not be rolled open.
Rolls that will be handled by the GM:
Perception
Sense Motive.
if you make the check I will send you a pm or make a post and put it in a spoiler depending on the situation.
Sometimes I will roll Initiative others I will ask you to roll depending on the situation. In some situation (rarely) I will bypass init entirely and have you all go first and enemies second or have enemies go first and you all go after.
Combat rules:
I'm a fair GM, I dont roll combat in secret, I don't change results, I don't ignore bad calls from the characters.
Sometimes, character dies, but I'm not a player killer, if I think that an encounter will be easy handled, when it should be more challenging, I will make it a more challenging, if the party it's not prepared to face something, I will drop hints, if they insist... well killing one or two players never made me lack sleep...
Actions:
I'm a GM that do not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visual appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! If what you want to do is wicked cool, I can even bend the game mechanics to allow it! The most importat part is: You are villains. Villains are smart, resourceful and have style! Have you ever seen a memorable villain that could just swing his sword and do nothing more?
Posting Rate
If it could be done, I expect 1/day posting, if you can post more, it will really good.
During weekend, this rule does not apply. If you are able to post, great! But dont stress over this, everyone need some time to rest (In my case, I need time to play and DM :D on my tabletop games).
Level up
Aside from character creation, when you level up, if you want something not from core rulebook, you'll need to search it inside the game. basicly what you need to do is just show in game your character is searching for that knowledge. This rule is not meant to prohibit anything, I just don't like something like this: "Character always as a full caster, never picked up a sword in his entire life, and then he gain a new level and says: Master, I'll level up as a fighter now..."

Just out of curiosity, what's Crain's ethnicity?
This is rather important for an ex-Korvosan Guard...

Despite an ever increasing integration of non-Chelaxians into its ranks, the Korvosan Guard remains steadfastly tied to its Chelaxian traditions. Only full-blooded Chelaxian humans can become generals or the field marshal, while only those with at least half-Chelaxian blood (including half-elves) can achieve a rank higher than captain.
...as it can influence how high Crain advanced in the ranks before dropping out.
as luck would have it, I was reading that same passage last night and thinking about it. I suppose he would probably be at least half Chelaxian. I don't think he would have advanced too far in the guard, maybe Captain is too high for them.

If there are degrees of private in the guard, I'd think he wouldn't have gotten too far up that ladder, maybe a bit higher and was then busted down a bit due to his general insolence, before getting the old heave ho altogether.

If you wondering why people are so upset it stems from the fact that Korvosa used to be a part of Cheliax and the people of Korvosa took part in a rebellion againts Cheliax to become independent.
The queen is a noble from Cheliax. The people were pretty much all against the king getting married to her because it would give Cheliax a hold on Korvosa that fought a war to become independent from Cheliax.
Now that the king is dead. The city has a Chelaxian ruler. Most folk aren't too happy about that.
A student at the Acadamae is required to undertake several dangerous steps in order to graduate—one of which is the summoning and bonding of an imp. Many students opt to take imps as familiars, but just as many fail and let those imps get loose. As a result, imps are a constant problem in Korvosa. Nests of them lurk in the eaves of the city’s Shingles in packs, often attempting to ally with or manipulate city gangs. Fortunately, the indigenous pseudodragon population, creatures who dwelt in the region before Korvosa was founded and adapted readily to the city’s advent, are quite adept at keeping Korvosa’s imp population under control. Two or three times a year, the imps and pseudodragons take to flight in the skies above Korvosa and engage in mass battles, and the recent events trigger more of the same.
I will let it slide for this time since you are low level and you can use the extra buff but for the future when you level up, and gain new daily use powers (lay on hands, smite, wildshape, spells ect..), you cant use them until after you have rested.
I contacted him yesterday and He told me play by post wasn't for him and he was going to quit the game. I will have him turn the the marshal's offer and go on his way
I'm going to be moving next Monday (the 28th), so my Internet access starting then will be extremely spotty for at least a week. I'll try to keep up, but I may have trouble doing so.
Is somebody keeping the loot tracker up to date? We have the Korvosan gold bars (12 of them, I believe), which I don't think we've divvied up. (I assume we divvied up the 1000 gold that the Marshal gave us earlier.)
