retro due to dead target?
Dandi rushes over the dead statue's body to reach Fondo, reaching out with her hair to lay a touch of healing upon him. "Come on, Brothermine. Wake up!"

Nikolay Vasilevich |
Round 5, Init 6
Sounds like all threats except the ghost are gone.
Nikolay flails about for a way to be helpful since he did not prepare dispel magic today. He uses his poor abilities of perception to look for who or what might have cast the spiritual ally if not the statue.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Barael de Gare |
Round 6, Init 18
Frustration almost pins Barael to his spot, unsure of any way to prevent Fondo from getting struck again. He moves to stand over him, and protect him with cover. "Get up, Brov!! We've carried the day!! The rack is still, and we still have work to do!!" +4 AC from Cover, per DM discussion
DM_Euan |
Majenko heals Barael a little, though he should have focused on Fondo. Nikolay, unable to help, looks for trouble. Briar drops the Akaruzug. Charlie tries to dispel Sabina and fails. Fondo bleeds. Barael tries to protect his friend with his body. Dandilion heals Fondo a little.
The ghostly Sabina continues her relentless attack on Fondo - even though he’s down.
Sabina Falchion on Fondo: 1d20 + 23 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 23 - 4 = 21 damage: 2d4 + 13 ⇒ (2, 1) + 13 = 16

Sabina Falchion on Fondo: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 13 - 4 = 14 damage: 2d4 + 13 ⇒ (2, 1) + 13 = 16
Hahah, that's funny. I still don't manage to kill Fondo.
Majenko uses his penultimate spell to try and dispel the creature Sabina.

Briar moves to W8 (skirting the 'ghost'), working off a hunch.
1d20 + 14 - 5 ⇒ (10) + 14 - 5 = 19 Know (Arcana) - Can the Sabina spirit open doors?
Possible Stnd action to come.
Barael de Gare |
Round 7, Init 18
AC = 25
HP = 53/138
Weapon Equipped = Black Tooth (Human/Undead Bane, Keen)
Condition(s) = Well Fed, Flight Footed, Heroic, Inspired?, Fervored
Ki Remaining = 2/11
Barael keeps alongside Fondo, making sure he doesn't dally. "We're sitting ducks to Sabina's blade, Brov! Leave her for now! We can always come back, and reattempt to send her off by magic's touch."
Barael moves towards Charlie, hoping the others do the same. Will delay for others to properly exit, then join them, after closing the door. Otherwise, full retreat into the next room east.
Dandilion Dreamstruck |
"Fondo, I can't help you if you fall once more!" Dandi's hair swirls in a panic around her as she flies to Fondo's side. "If this is the only way to make you see sense, then let us get out of here together. Niko, Take Fondo's hand, or step back! The rest of you, meet us outside!" And may the Father of Dreams and his Blessed Consort both pull the strands of our fate in the right direction, together.
With one hand on Fondo and her hair swirling over Sabina's body, She casts one more spell.
fire damage: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 6) = 11
Damnation Stride, 4d6 fire damage in a 10 foot radius burst around her. Hopefully, reappearing outside the door.
Barael de Gare |
For the briefest of moments, Barael watches the hag witch rise up and claim what is rightfully hers. A shudder of fear, then understanding. Then deep respect. I don't know where that power comes from, but It respects her as much as she does It. If she respects It, so must I.
A tingle of electricity crosses the nape of his neck, and he does as he's bidden.
DM_Euan |
The party rushes though the door and Dandilion follows with Fondo and Sabina's body, Briar slams the door shut.
You're out in the hallway and things are relatively quiet. You hear the occasional dim sounds of orders being given above, but you don't hear any combat.
After a while, you're sure there's nothing following you. We're out of initiative.
Fondo Barondo |
Fondo flicks Serithtial back into her glove and avails himself of some wands.
CSW: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 2, 7) + 5 = 22
CSW: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (1, 2, 5) + 5 = 13
CSW: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 6, 7) + 5 = 21
CSW: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 7, 4) + 5 = 23
Eventually he heaves Sabina onto his shoulder.
"And so we've paid another debt in blood.
Sabina, may the Lady judge you fair.
And fortune follow in what life awaits."
Barael de Gare |
Barael turns to Briar. "How long must we wait, if we seek to press on through that room?" Barael also avails himself of healing, should wands be passed around.
"Are we at wit's end, then? There are still more rooms to investigate, of course, but are we strong enough to still see it through today?"
Charlie Buckminster |
"I am very low on spells and the wands are very close to empty. Still have a little juice left is another way to look at it. I still have an elemental up my sleeve and a little this and that..."
He trails off doing some mental calculation and availing himself of his holy system.
Briar the Lesser |
Briar waits a full minute (10 rounds), then cracks (trying for improved cover) open the door to the Sabinaseum.
1d20 + 23 ⇒ (14) + 23 = 37 Perception
"I know not how long for sure, but not much longer. I would explore this room and a few more before returning. But I agree, Halfblood, we have had a full day."
Fondo Barondo |
"We've freed those left to free. Tis time to rest, restore, and plot." Fondo looks with concern at the dark circles around his friends' eyes. "Get back to Harrow House and let me see to what supplies we need."
Briar the Lesser |
Briar checks himself, and his current weaknesses.
"I am drained, but could continue more. If there is danger, I can rescue myself and others nearby. But not everyone."
Briar looks around.
"I would explore and finish this level at least."
Briar goes and does a thorough (detect magic'd) examination of the Sabina-construct room.
Take 10 Perception = 33.
Barael de Gare |
Barael flips through his maps once more. After tucking them away, he moves to the unopened door in the torture room. He looks back over his shoulder. "Just a couple of rooms on this side, let's take some peace of mind for looking in on them, eh?" Barael opens the door, and moves into the next room.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 + 2 - 3 ⇒ (15) + 18 + 2 - 3 = 32
Dandilion Dreamstruck |
"I have very little left now, and unless there are shadows to lend a hand, I cannot even get myself out in an emergency." She sighs, and look around, wondering which of her friends, her family, she may lose so that Sabina's corpse could be freed.
Fondo Barondo |
Fondo shrugs. "If we've no cause nor purpose left herein, let's go. We have our charge for morrow's light." He follows after Barael, thinking either to discourage him or to put himself in harm's way instead.
Barael de Gare |
"Purpose a plenty, Brov. We worked over several devils who decided to join our little soiree with Sabina's Cross. If we can draw more of them out, let's. I'm assuming we don't need to venture below again, especially shedding light where it's not wanted, but we'll want to tell the Rebels about the danger, at least."
Barael will deplete the rest of his gloves' magic by examining the subsequent doors. At least two of them.
Nikolay Vasilevich |
"Agreed. Let us finish off the castle. When we leave this place and rest I would find it hard to return. Even now I resist the temptation to teleport straight to our final destination. I can picture it so clearly. "
Nikolay almost hops from foot to foot with nervous energy--that or he needs to go to the loo.
Dandilion Dreamstruck |
"If we're to leave tomorrow at first light, then we have only these few hours to finish what we've started."
Straightening her shoulders, she prepares to face whatever is left.
DM_Euan |
You re-enter the chamber, gathering up the weapons of the devils (Composite Long Bow (str+5) +1, flaming and a Long Sword +1 for each of the four). Other than some very nice torture devices there is nothing else of substance in this room.
Searching the rest of the floor reveals little as well. The rooms beyond are all cells and jailer’s rooms, currently empty. Well almost empty. One of the cages does have the relatively recent body of some unfortunate soul who was forgotten down here and died of thirst.
There is another small section, but you have to go outside to get to it. As you do so you encounter Cressida’s troops taking up fortified positions above you. They notify you that they have already cleared that section of the castle and you don’t need to waste your time there. They have much to do, and anticipate more fighting throughout the day, but they feel good - like they’ve already won.
Of course they don’t know about the Queen’s plans and the blood sacrifice many of them are likely already an unknowing part of.
Before you depart on the morrow to the Queen, many of you have negative levels to deal with. They are not temporary, they are not going away overnight or with easy low level spells. They require full restorations with 1kgp in diamond dust per casting.
Briar - 5 levels
Majenko - 5 levels
Barael - 3 levels
Dandilion - 3 levels
Nikolay - 3 levels
That said, please level up! Note your new levels in the OOC thread at your convenience. I'll try and get the daily journal up later today, but I discovered I'm a little behind and need to sort through the threads to catch up.
It is mid-morning so lots of day left if there was anything you wanted to do today.
Briar the Lesser |
Briar looks over the bows and swords from the Erinyes and selects one of the +1 longswords for himself. He wishes had the strength to draw the flaming bow, but his puny elven arms are not as fiendishly fueled as the erinyes.
Having finished exploring the castle, Briar is content to return to the Craftorium, both to reflect on what happened this day, but also plot and plan his next few days. He feels awful and could use some rest.
He well craft for the rest of the day. TBD, tonight.
* * *Day After 1* * *

1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 vs. DC 26 - neg level
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17 vs. DC 26 - neg level
Briar will craft again and have time to discuss with others the plans for assaulting the Sunken Queen. Briar will cast Restoration and fix himself up.
Fondo Barondo |
Fondo smiles at Cressida's forces as they report securing the castle.
"The city whole is sure to follow soon.
The children of your clans shall long recount
Your bravery this day, oh goodly guards."
He lingers with them a while before making his way back to the Harrow House. If Gray Maidens remain there, he calls on them to leave. "The Queen has fled, and so should you. Or join Cressida Kroft in bringing justice back to this afflicted town."
Don't mean to start more fights, so if this course of action is too perilous for him, let me now. But he wants to sleep in his own chambers tonight.
DM_Euan |
There were a couple dozen, or more, Gray Maidens in your old home of unknown strength. I need more of the party to agree before going on so perilous a fight with your low resources. The house was somewhat fortified and will not be easy to break into. Lots of arrow slit-windows upstairs. :)
Show of hands please. Who's going with Fondo and Barael to try and free your old home of government influence?
Briar the Lesser |
While I think it's a good idea to go rest up and heal (since we're going to have a down day irregardless), how can Briar resist killing more Varisians who won't listen to reason? Why give them time to realize their game is up and to leave on their own when we can kill them as if shooting fish in a barrel?
Briar's ears perk up at Fondo's suggestion.
"It's possible we could serve them notice and give them time to flee, Varisian, but if you wish to take some revenge upon them, I will go to protect you and the sword. My bow has tasted much of their blood, but if you deem more bloodspilling necessary, let's do it."
Fondo Barondo |
Fondo, at this point perhaps the least weary of the party, laughs at Briar's words. "Let's give them cause to fear, friend elf. But blood's no love of mine. Just rest in mine own bed. Let silver tongue be vanguard to our cause. I'll see it done."
Approaching the house, Fondo activates his bracers and calls out loudly, "Dear Maidens. Daughters of Korvosa, hear me now. The Queen has fled the city's walls. She's killed your general, who was ever true. Sabina's dead. Tis time to lay aside your arms. Surrender and I'll pledge my life to see you safely sorted out. This I swear to you."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (7) + 27 = 34
Bluff, if you feel it's warranted: 1d20 + 21 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 21 + 20 = 47
Charlie Buckminster |
Irrespective of Briar's use of a non-word, I tend to agree with him. I would add that we might want to take a contingent of soldiers with us.
"If we are going to go into combat I guess I'll save those restorations until tomorrow. Flame Strike Sorry guys. Regardless of our confidence in ourselves we might want to bring with us some of these fine soldiers to help cover our flanks as we make our house clean once again."
Charlie will assist on the Diplomacy, but not if it's a bluff.
Dip Assist: 1d20 + 21 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 21 + 1 = 25
"He speaks the truth. Surrender now and you will not burn with our righteous fire.
