Yeah. Ironically, some officers who knew our dear Nikolay's real name came by the house. Not that it was my intention to get special treatment by using your name, Nikolay. I just can't help name association when talking to strangers.
DM_Euan |
So it's likely that when you first met Vencarlo, the Rakshasa was using the Change Shape ability. However, as the change is fundamental, she wouldn't get her claw or bite attacks as Vencarlo (not to mention the discomfort of being a male for extended periods of time). So at some point during the night, she changed shape back into herself, but used the hat of disguise to pretend to be Vencarlo.
You had a better chance to identify Vencarlo the next day than you did the day before, but Rakshasa have a Disguise +24, plus the +10 provided by the mask of disguise and a small circumstance bonus for wearing all of Blackjacks gear. No one looked at Vencarlo keenly the next day, so I took-10 for the lot of you and the disguise held.

Thank you! I thought I was losing it there for a second. I heard toffee, thought of tofee, got all excited about about toffee and then no toffee. Dandi thinking of toffee without toffee isn't.
Briar the Lesser |
"Ack! Be careful guys, it casts some sort of light stealing spell! I think we're under attack!" she feels for a bomb as she waits for a response from one of the others.
LOL!
Nikolay Vasilevich |
One night down, one(?) more to go. No vandalism or violence tonight; just lots of marching around town. Just trying to avoid a repeat of last Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
Wish I could catch up more, but it's hour 16 and still much work to do.
Briar the Lesser |
It's been a great couple days of posts. I'm sorry to have missed it, but am back now.
Glad you're back. With you gone, this group of yahoos has gotten themselves split up, captured, tortured (not speaking of Dandi or Vencarlo, but of the Elf having to talk to Fondo and the Rat only ;)...), and all sorts of crazy.
Come save us, 'Sward. We need you.
DM_Euan |
Looks like Nikolay is getting away with more attacks than he gets with spell combat. It's pretty clear that the bonus attack from Blessings of Fervor would not be gained.
Also, my earlier ruling allowing you to ensorcel your blackblade has been reversed by the FAQ (which is not surprising).
So, going forward, when you do spell combat no Blessings of Fervor extra attacks, but we'll leave the blackblade bonuses alone. I don't want to go back, just forward.
[EDIT] Oh, and I think you need one hand free for spell combat, so I don't think you can two hand your weapon for spell combat either. Again, I could be way off, the magus is still a new class for me...
Nikolay Vasilevich |
I'm learning the magus to and hadn't looked at the FAQ in a while.
Magus: Does spell combat count as making a full attack action for the purpose of haste and other effects?
No. Spell combat is its own kind of full-round action, and is not a full attack action.
--yeah. Haste and BoF won't work. I'll just opt for the +2 on attacks in the future.
Yes, I messed up and forgot to swing one handed.
Nikolay Vasilevich |
Magus, Black Blade: Can I use Craft Magic Arms and Armor to increase my blade's enhancement bonus?
No, nor can you use that feat to add other properties (such as flaming) to the black blade. You can use your arcane pool to temporarily add abilities to your black blade.
Nikolay never added the bonus to his weapon via crafting. The inherent +'s (+3 at this point) come from it being a black blade vs just any other magus weapon.

Ahhh, cool. I know we talked about it, and I previously had approved it though it was a gray area even then. Glad you didn't in fact get it done. :) So you're totally legal! yay!

When making purchases, please do me the service of listing a price with it. I do not have the entire book memorized, and every purchase you make that doesn't have a price next to it means I need to spend time looking it up.
Time I could be spending preparing the campaign... or watching grass grow.
So please post the prices by your purchases - thank you. :)
Barael de Gare |
I'll gladly post prices for wishes :) I just assumed that, until we knew that Saul was an accessible asset, we'd look foolish assuming we got what we came for.
Amulet of Natural Armor +1 2000gp
Handy Haversack 2000gp
Totally in for contributing to CLW too

Congratulations! It is time again to level. :) I think you're now level 10 if it can be believed...

FIfth Report
Wealday Erastus 11, 4707
- The party wakes in Vencarlo’s home after a few hours rest with little guard.
- They make their way to Salvators house, stopping to harass some kids and steal their toys first.
- At the house, after a brief battle with an Otyugh and after leaving a poor woman to fend for herself, they have a delightful chat with Laori Vaus, an evil elven worshipper of Zon-Kuthon.
- She joins up with the party for the express purpose of meeting Salvator.
- She found a scrap of the uniform of the seneschal of Korvosa in Salvators house and, not knowing what it was, gave it to the party.
- The party finishes searching Salvators house finding nothing else of worth.
- After fighting a few of the emperors cronies, the party questions the survivors at some length and brag about curing the plague.
- The party approaches the back of the Emperors ‘Palace’ and encounters another guard group which they quickly defeat with Laori’s help, and deadliness.
- Fondo and the Emperor discuss a variety of topics including the Queen as Fondo attempts to sway the crowd to his side. Fondo again promises the cure.
- The inevitable fight breaks out and the party does well, eventually winning the day. However the Emperor dimension doors away, and later his gnome cronie too goes missing.
- POST 5,000!
- After a quick search of the rooms beyond the guillotine, the party finds and questions Salvator learning that Vencarlo is with the Arcona along with the seneschal.
- A long day culminates at the Waydon Orphanage roof where the party plans to spend the night. However a little recon. at the Arcona Manor is done first by Barael.
- Barael, as a wererat, enjoys a late supper with Glorio and Melyia Arcona, the heads of the family. They entreat him to bring his friends back for a late night dessert.
- Glorio meets with the party and admits that Vencarlo and the Seneschal are present, but asks that the party do something for him first - slay the Emperor.
- The party returns to Vencarlos and searches his place thoroughly, eventually finding proof he is in fact Blackjack! They take his things and spend the night.
Othday Erastus 12, 4707
- First thing, Barael sneaks up to the Emperor, found by Briar’s spells, and delivers a coupe de grace to the weeping man killing him outright. The Gnome strides off weeping in his one good eye.
- The party returns to the Arcona residence and has breakfast with Glorio. He gives them a gift (ring) and suggests that they can find what they seek in the labyrinth. He goes on to say he’ll help them through it by ‘locking’ it down and showing them the entrance.
- In the fungal garden the party fights the undead/fungus creatures.
- The party works their way down deep into the rock. They find a Rakshasa in a grand hall with a pair of cobras. They slay the cobras but the Rakshasa might have gotten away thanks to a pet GIANT reefclaw that came up out of the water and knocked out Nikolay (dex drain).
- At long last the party enters the labyrinth. The avoid pulling the lever, but several get tagged by the symbol of pain before Charlie dispels it.
- Moving on the party discovers another lever, this one with a symbol of insanity placed on it. They also discover the hall of tigers and Nikolay, again, barely gets out alive.
- Trying to rest, the party is repeatedly attacked by a darksphinx named Sivit. They also encounter one of their sought after victims - Vencarlo - who was apparently a prisoner of Sivits.
- Having fought the sphinx several times, the party eventually beats Sivit, whose body is destroyed by a spinning bladed trap.
Fireday Erastus 13, 4707
- The party awakens and begins to discuss their plans with ‘Vencarlo’ pushing to confront Glorio Arcona.
- Pressing on through the maze they advance down the hall.
- Sadly the iron maidens prove to be a trap which triggers the false Vencarlo to attack the party. It is revealed he is in fact a she - a Fox Rakshasa, which the party eventually vanquishes all while the trap slowly resets.
- Barael again disarms a ‘bee’ trap enabling the party to press on where they find a Sonorous Stone which some of the party uses to replenish themselves.
- Dandilion touches ‘the pretty white sphere’ that likes her and disappears with Briar following not long after (though he does establish telepathic communications with some of the party before departing). They find themselves imprisoned while the rest of the party discovers another Vencarlo.
- The party decides to trust this Vencarlo for now, but as they dither Dandilion has a brief fight with a beatific one and is placed on a rack for future torture.
- The party rushes forward only to be thwarted by Briar’s stone wall. Charlie summons an earth elemental to carry them through and they press on to join in the battle with the beatific one.
- After a short break (in which the beatific one becomes beatific two) the battle resumes, and the party is again victorious.
- Neolandus, the Seneschal of Korvosa is found and brought out with the party to the boat they passed earlier.
- Glorio provides food and some magical aids to the party to assist their escape from Korvosa and they find themselves in the Varisian slums preparing to flee the now unfriendly city for a time.
- Unwisely, but slyly, Nikolay creeps back into the city for one more haul from Saul before the party departs on a night ride along the coast.
Starday Erastus 14, 4707 to Moonday Erastus 17, 4707
- Today is the founding festival and a good day to flee Korvosa as many of the Guard, the Marines, and even the Gray Maidens will be busy with the city’s thronging party.
- Over the next few days you ride hard and sleep little - pushed on by Deyanira’s magics and Fondo’s skills as much as your own inner fires.

Oh, also note that the Harrow Points have changed again.
The Campaign Tab has the current information as usual, but it's printed below also for your convenience.
During this portion you may spend your Harrow Points in the following ways. Using a Harrow Point is an immediate action (though in most cases you may use Harrow Points more than once per round if you have that many to spend).
Strength Reroll
Spend a Harrow Point to reroll any one Strength-based skill check. You must abide by the new result (although if you have additional Harrow Points remaining, you can use them to attempt additional rerolls).
Mighty Thews
Spend a Harrow Point to be treated as a creature one size category larger than your normal category for the purposes of making grapple checks, lifting heavy objects, or determining if a hungry monster can swallow you whole; this adjustment lasts for one encounter (but no more than 10 minutes at the very most).
Brutal Strike
Spend a Harrow Point to gain a +5 bonus on all melee or natural weapons for the duration of one combat. Alternatively, brutal strike allows you to ignore an object’s hardness for 1 round.
