Galador Imrael |
"You, sir are a fool," Galador calls out, drawing his blade. "We came here with the most noble of intentions: Looking for a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. And you have insulted and berated us at every turn! You are a thug, we do not kowtow to thugs! Have at thee!"
Galador attacks the man with a dizzying array of feints and sweeps. All Galador's allies recognize the display as a Distracting Strike, and many openings are made in the foe's defenses.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage re-roll: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Distracting Strike: The next attack against the target is at Advantage, and add +d8 to damage.
Rascal "Raz" Stormshadow |
Bardic bonus reaction to give Galador a D6 inspiration dice AND Combat inspiration at the beginning of next round: Also at 3rd level, you learn to inspire others in battle. A creature that has a Bardic Inspiration die from you can roll that die and add the number rolled to a weapon damage roll it just made. Alternatively, when an attack roll is made against the creature, it can use its reaction to roll the Bardic Inspiration die and add the number rolled to its AC against that attack, after seeing the roll but before knowing whether it hits or misses. Make it count buddy!
We'll stand to the likes of any of your kind. Tis better to die on ones feet than to live on ones knees!
Attacks Mr. Smug.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Perhaps you'll smile more politely when I cut your face open!, Rascal says, swinging hard at the nobleman
Sheva Callister |
Sheva fires an Eldritch Blast at the closest dire wolf, trying to avoid direct confrontation with Strahd for now.
"W̷̸i͘͝͝t̢h̕͝ ͝t̛́h̶͜e͟҉̷ ̢f͏͞͞i̵͝r̸e̡ ҉̶fr̷͝om̢͏ ̸̧t̕͜͞he͏̕ ̷̧f̛̕͞i̴̶ŗ̛é̛w͏̛o̡̢̕r͠k̵͜s͡ ̶́up͠ ̵a̶̶̛b̛͠o̶v̸͏e̵̛͝"
Agonizing Blast: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Agonizing Blast Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
And apparently she's still shaken by Strahd getting so close.
DM Default |
So this got a bit confusing, I'm gonna just drop Strahd to right before the Dire wolves to make the initiative easier, unless you all have a problem with that.
Wolf 1 :11
Wolf 2
Wolf 3
Strahd : 21
Sheva's blast goes wild and misses her target as the wolves draw closer to the group. Meanwhile the look of triumph on Galador's and Razz's faces start to fade as they notice Strahd has barely paid either of their attacks any notice. He does frown, more to the annoyance that your blades have cut into his clothing. As you withdraw you notice no blood is spilled and even his wounds begin to close.
These might be a bit out of order, but you get the idea
Before Razz can comprehend the meaning of this Strahd is upon him
Legendary Action after Razz's turn
Unarmed slap: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 4d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + (2, 5, 5, 6) = 29
Just to let you all know, the 4d6 is necrotic damage, meaning instant death.
But his attack falls short, the spectral energy barely missing the feisty bard.
Strahd then lays his sight on Sheva.
2nd Legendary Action after Sheva's turn
Strahd moves to Sheva with almost misty step, not provoking any AoO.
Strahd's actual turn.
"Come woman," he commands, his voice taking a spectral dimension and his eyes glowing with power. "Serve me."
Sheva, need you to make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or be charmed. If you are charmed, you feel as if Strahd needs to be protected as a trusted friend. You will also take orders from him.
The wolves move past Sheva and Strahd and each lunge for a different member of the party.
Attack on Vassilios: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 3 = 8
Attack on Galador: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 5) + 3 = 9
Attack on Razz: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 6) + 3 = 15
If you were hit by a wolf attack, you must succeed a DC13 strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Vasilios Teras |
I'm going to assume that the wolf that attacked me is the one I had damaged, does that make sense?
Vasilios feels the anger of the beast and steps backwards, trying to get some room for his magic to work.
Action: Disengage (and move back, away from the wolf). Spending 2 Sorcery Points to turn a spell into a bonus action.
-We need a bit more of push...
With that thought in mind, Vasilios tries a bigger version of his spell, targeting the same wolf in an attempt at thinning their ranks.
2nd Level Magic Missile: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 1) + 4 = 11
Sheva Callister |
Wisdom Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Sheva experiences great turmoil within her head. The fiend is pushed aside as another presence enters and begins to take hold. It's too much for her to resist.
After struggling for a moment she joins Strahd by his side.
"Of course Master Strahd. I see we've been wrong about you. This is just a misunderstanding."
Galador Imrael |
Avoid knockdown: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
The lunging bite from the wolf tore great renks in his chest, and Galador teetered on his back foot, only just managing not to lose his footing.
He knew he was outmatched, and was determined to make a glorious stand...
...but as Steva changed and suddenly was staring at Strahd with doey eyes and speaking soft words at him, the fight...just poured out of Galador's veins.
He ground his sword and held his hands up in supplication. "I yield! Yield, damn you, I yield! Yes this...this was all a...a misunderstanding damn you!"
Galador never was very good at surrendering.
DM Default |
That does make sense Vasillos. Galador is yielding. You can signal your intentions to follow if you wish, your actions will still count for the turn.
Vasilios Teras |
Seeing how the situation evolves, Vasilios decides to play smart. He might be here to destroy the evil vampire, but he might have to wait and plan accordingly... at least until all the facts are known.
Vasilios adopts a defensive stance, showing the will of causing no further harm.
-Alright... hold your beasts, and we can talk this out and walk peacefully. Agree?
Sheva Callister |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sheva giggles and looks up at Strahd.
"You see, Master? It was all a misunderstanding. There's no reason we can't all be friends!"
She looks back at the others, and stops at Galador. There's a moment of hesitation and the glow in her eyes shifts to deep red. For just a split second, the fiend takes control.
"S̶͢͟T͜R̵̢̀͢I͡͏K̵̵̶̨͝Ę͘҉ ͝͏͡͡Ḩ́E̴͜͞҉R͠҉̧ ̵̴Ń͢͝O̡͢͠҉W̸͘͝ ̷͞͠W̧̕͜A̵̸R͘͜R̨̕̕͝Į̵͟O̷̢͟͟͠R̛̕!̴͘͟͝"
Then the vampire's charm reasserts itself.
"Now, now! You need to be nice to Master Strahd as well! We're all going to be such wonderful friends!"
Sheva tilts her head back and laughs.
DM Default |
Sheva, just a note. This charm effect lasts the entire day. You get to roll another saving throw each time Strahd or something allied with Strahd hurts you.
Strahd begins to chuckle at how easy it was to turn this group of foolhardy adventurer's so easily.
"I suppose violence does speak to a certain degree sharper than any veiled threat. Though it appears this one means something to you?" Strahd considers as he gestures to Sheva while looking at Galador.
Strahd turns around, looking at Ireena who has not moved in the combat that had taken place within 10 seconds or so.
"Give you brother my condolences for your loss." he says, not an ounce of emotion in him. "As a fover from the lord of this land, I will make sure the priest is expecting you. Come woman."
Strahd order Sheva to follow him, and as she is still completely charmed she is compelled to do so.
"And kill anyone who tries to stop us won't you? " Strahd orders, a malevolent grin on his lips that never reaches his eyes. "My pets will make sure our dear guests repay their disrespect by aiding Ireena, and I can't have them running off until they've done so..."
The wolves back off, but remain watchful or your movements.
If no does anything to stop them, they both walk toward the graveyard on the other side of town, slowly disappearing in the darkness.
Galador Imrael |
Sry. Weekends are bad for me.
Galador backsteps a few paces, eyes wide in horror, wondering just how everything went so wrong. "I...she...just don't hurt her!" is about all he can manage to stammer out.
"And...we were going to help Ireena anyway! You didn't have to...to do anything...you big jerk."
He doesn't like talking to Strahd, so he turns his attention to Ireena. "Ya, sure, whatever. Do...do you wanna leave now and, and follow...them? Or what?"
Galador turns to look at Raz and Vasilios, hoping their tongues will be more glib than his feeble attempts at something witty.
Sheva Callister |
Sheva looks back over her shoulder as she walks off with Strahd, flashing a smile.
"Just do as he says. It'll be much easier for everyone."
She blows them a kiss, "Bye for now," and walks away with her new master.
Vasilios Teras |
Vasilios grinds his teeth helplessly, but in the end realises his fight is in the long term. He might be here to end Strahd but, for now, Strahd is much stronger than they are.
-Let's play it long, then.
-Ireena? What can we do for you, given the situation?
DM Default |
The walk over to the graveyard is quiet, almost peaceful and you find yourself enjoying your time with your beloved Strahd. You reach the Church without incident.
"Donovich the priest should be inside. The old fool could do with a bit of company. Go inside and ask about his son. When your companions arrive, you are free to join them. Oh, and one more thing. When that brash fellow, the one who speaks oddly and seems to have a thing for you, when they arrive, greet them pleasantly and stab him with your dagger. Multiple times. In fact, just try and kill him to the best of your abilities. Do this for me. No exceptions."
And with that, Strahd dissapears into the night as wisps of smoke.
Ismark's face looks white, and he shudders as watches the remainder of a party in a panic.
"I wanted help for my family...but not like this...not from him."
He falls to his knees, in shame and guilt of what he's dragged you all into, and is comforted by his sister who has regained her senses.
"Brother. We need to act. We shall run this errand, and we will discuss with our fellows here what the best course of action will be."
She turns to you all, though her face is strong, you can tell she's just as nervous, perhaps even more so as she has faced her tormentor once again.
"Come. Let us make haste so we can reclaim your friend."
She shows you into the house and instructs each of you to grab an edge of hte makeshift coffin. Her brother joins in and soon you all our down the road on the way to the cemetary.
If you have questions you have time to get one or two in.
Sheva Callister |
Sheva silently enters the church and walks directly over to the priest.
"Hello there. You must be Donovich. I'm with the Kolyanovich funeral party. The rest of the group should be arriving shortly."
She looks around the church and her eyes give off a faint glow as she turns into the shadows.
"How is your son? A friend has asked."
DM Default |
As you enter the chapel which stands in shambles, you hear the low, hoarse muttering of an older man. He doesn't even realize you entering, and just keeps staring forward, knelt on the floor, his clothing in soils and his gallow eyes almost vacant of thought. And yet he keeps muttering. Prayers by the sound of it. Dried tear streaks layer his face.
"Isn't it obvious?" Ismark asks, readjusting his grip as he keeps the coffin aloft. "He a spawn of the night, maybe once human, but now a vampire that feeds on these lands. If I'd known he were coming, I'd have gotten you all inside the house. It's said that Strahd can't enter an abode without being welcomed by someone inside.."
To Razz
"Now...We keep walking and pray that Strahd left your friend at the chapel."
Note, please use spoiler until the party reunites. Keeps the mystery up.
Galador Imrael |
What time is it?
Sheva Callister |
Sheva realizes her smalltalk has gone unheard. She pauses for a moment to observe his utter despair before putting her hand on his shoulder as if to offer him some small comfort.
"Hello. Can you hear me? What's wrong, sir? Is there anything I can help with?"
DM Default |
It's hard to tell, but the time is most certainly after midnight before morning.
His chanting stops, and he turns to look at you. There's something in his eyes, not dangerous, but unhinged. As if he has gone through a harrowing event.
"Have the gods sent you?" he asks as he reaches for you, as if to grab at your clothes. "Have the gods sent you to answer my prayers?"
His eyes begin to water and he smiles, and he looks like he's between tears and laughter.
Ismark chuckles, a grim and hollow sort.
"Right, how did attacking him work for you lot? He could take my head off with a flick of his finger, but you're right there are even rules he must 'live' by. He isn't killed in sunlight, but it definitely hurts him, Ireena's seen it once when he was....overly ambitious to meet her."
You all arrive at your destination, a small chapel that looks to be in disrepair.
Rascal "Raz" Stormshadow |
I don't know what we can do to save Sheva... maybe there is holy water at the chapel?
Sheva Callister |
"Not the gods. Someone powerful, but he's not a god."
"What happened to you? The one who sent me, he told me to ask about your son. Did something happen with him?"
Sheva takes genuine pity on the priest's sorrow. She sees some of herself in him.
"I have had my own struggles with darkness. Tell me what's wrong, and perhaps I can help. If nothing else, I can at least lend a sympathetic ear."
She gives him a reassuring smile.
Galador Imrael |
As they get to the chapel his sense of unease grows. "This the place? You sure? Seems less like a final resting place an' more like a waiting lot to be turned into undead. But as you wish....
You've a thought there, Raz. If there's any water here at all, let's collect it for...an opportune moment."
DM Default |
Ireena gives Galador a dirty look.
"I'm sorry that we simple Barovians don't have the gaff to walk up to the most powerful and evil creature in the land and ask for his weaknesses. Would you like to try talking to him? Oh wait....we can see what happens when you open that proud mouth of yours."
She is having none of Galador's judgy tone.
Ismark, nevertheless tries to be more helpful.
"Well...not that you're wrong Galador, its just, as my sister puts it, Strahd is not one to let strategic weakness show unless he's secure in his position. As for running water, can't say for sure."
The man begins to weep and weep, burying his head in his hands to hide his obvious tears.
"My son! My son!" he cries, the pain of a father who has lost the one thing in life that brought him joy.
He begins to control himself and asks you open the door to let the air in.
The two groups reunite with Strahd nowhere in sight. Sheva is in the doorway of the chapel while the others carry the coffin of Ismark and Ireena's late father.
Vasilios Teras |
Vasilios has been silent, thinking about his role in this play. Is he really here to help in Strahd's demise? Or is he only being a fool, thinking himself a pawn in a game where he doesn't belong?
And then...
-Hey, guys, there's Sheva. Hey Sheva! Are you alright? Did he hurt you?
Sheva Callister |
"Thank you Vasilios. I'm... unharmed."
Sheva feels something stirring within when she sees Galador.
She runs to him and hugs him tightly. She presses her face close to his ear.
"Galador, sweet Galador. I.. I figured something out."
She breathes heavily on his ear, and meanwhile she pulls a dagger from her belt.
"Galador..." she whispers heavily,
"The Master was right. You do speak kind of oddly."
With that, she takes the dagger and tries to stab Galador in the side with it.
Dagger: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9
Dagger Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Though his armor stops the dagger from doing any damage, she pulls back and begins laughing wildly.
"I'm sorry, Galador, but Master Strahd wants you dead at all cost!" she says between giggles.
She drops the dagger to the ground, pulls out her pact rapier, and assumes an attack position, still laughing loudly with a crazed, determined look in her eyes.
Vasilios Teras |
-Sheva! What the...
Vasilios looks around madly, trying to figure out how to disable Sheva without hurting her.
Perhaps he's always meant to kill his friends. This damned Strahd... he has manipulated the situation for this to happen, clearly. He will pay...
For those who look, Vasilios' eyes start to gleam like fire...
Galador Imrael |
As Ireena throws back Galador's bile in equal measure, he, never the one to deescalate when he could intesify instead, continues the verbal fencing. "Oh confound, woman! We were brought here with honest intensions of helping -you-, and our chesnuts are now in the fire as deeply as yours! I should simply think that in all the years you've lived here---um, how long -have- you lived here....?"
But then Ismark carries on the conversation, and then they've arrived and he finds himself tired of the whole line of talk, and he wonders where he should set the body down.
At seeing Sheva, his heart would normally flutter at the sight of her, but at her charade and turncoat behavior recently, his ardor is not as receptive....
....but as she runs to him and softly coos his name, he finds his mood changed, and a familiar emotion stirs within him. Well this is...unexpected.
He gently sets the body down with one arm while the other tries to reciprocate her embrace and both his ears hang on her every word.
"Yes? Found out something? What--"
Only then does a scrapping sound of metal grating on chain mail bring about his awareness to the dagger gripped by gentle hand seeking out his life blood.
As the fair warlock steps back and pulls her blade, his own longsword escapes its sheath and he holds it before him in disbelief.
"I've drawn steel on Sheva??? How...how did it come to this?"
"I do not know what that fiend has promised you, but know that on the field of battle I'm not one to be trifled with!"
Instinctively he lashes out with his steel...
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
...but he can not force his hand to stab her lithe body with a killing blow.
He takes a step back, giving himself some room, and forces his mind to think about how he's gonna get out of this one.
"What the devil is amiss with the way I talk?!"
DM Default |
I am having a great time. How about you all?
Init Galador: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Init Sheva: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Init Vasillos: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Init Razz: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
We are now entering combat. The order is as follows.
Galador, Sheva, Vasillos, and Razz.
Galador and Sheva's actions I'll count as a mutual surprise round and response.
Please post in order, I'll respond to questions if you have any but this is actually pretty straightforward.
Galador Imrael |
Wait, ya, sorry, I was confused about if we had already gone, or if we should go again. This seems like an instance where the dice have actually managed to confuse things more. =p
"Confound, woman! You're no match for me! If you will not give off then I'll make you give off!"
Galador tries to Sweep The Mountain Down, batting the beautiful warlock's guard lower until he can aim a blow and dislodge the weapon from her hand.
Disarm attempt. Sheva gets Str roll to oppose it. DMG p.271: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Sheva Callister |
STR Check: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Sheva's rapier is knocked from her hand.
She responds by casting darkness upon Galador.
"T̛h̷̕͠è̕ ̧̨͘n̨i̷͜g̶̡h̷̛͘t͟ d̶̀r̸̀á̷w͏s ͘ņ͢͠e̴͢͠a͘r̶͞ ̕͟a̴̴n҉̨d̸͢ ̶̕͠d̕a̕͏y̸͜l҉͢į̀g̵h̨̨͝t f̵̶͟à͢d̛ę̨͡s.̴́"
Anyone in his 15' radius will be caught in complete darkness. Sheva can still see in it due to Devil's Sight.
As the blackness envelops, Sheva laughs and reaches for her fallen blade.
"Run Rabbit, run." she taunts with an eerie calm to her voice.
DM Default |
So...Galador and Sheva had a free round, which was both their failed attacks. Then you enter a new round which Galador and Sheva have posted actions for. Razz posted early, so his action occurs after Sheva's darkness. And since Galador and Sheva are right next to each other, She is completely concealed giving any attacks against her 50% chance to miss.
1-5 means you miss: 1d10 ⇒ 4
Razz rushes forward to grapple at the now completely concealed Sheva, but grasps at Darkness.
Vasillos is up.
Galador Imrael |
Galador seethes at the turn of events as the unnatural darkness envelopes him. He slows his breathing to try and determine where the she-devil is...
...until something in his head grabs on to the recent words and makes sense of them.
'Wait. She said 'run'. 'Run rabbit run'. Could...could she even now be trying to tell me something? Something important? Yes! That's it! Oh, even as she reels in the villain's thrall she fights to save me!'
Keeping his orientation, Galador turns, and departs from the darkness.
Emerging, he yells, "Here! I am here! Gather to me, and we'll wait out the magical dark!"
Disengage action 20 feet away from Sheva.
Sheva Callister |
The darkness was cast on Galador, so I believe it should move with him. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Sheva fires an Eldritch Blast at Galador (regular action, not AoO).
"O̵͠n ̕a͟͢ ̡bà̴̢c̴k̴̕c̵͝͏l̴̀ó̕th̸ ̡́o̕f̀́͢ ͟la͏́s̢͟h͏ȩs̶͞ ̸̴͢an͟ḑ̵ ̷̧͏st͏ą͟r̵s͏"
Agonizing Blast: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Advantage: 1d20 ⇒ 2 (If he's still in darkness)
Agonizing Blast Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
She clearly misses, and using her infernal magic gives the fiend within another opportunity to speak...
She staggers from the darkness and looks point-blank at Raz. She appears to struggle for a moment, getting out the words.
".͠͞..̵̕ ͢M̢͢͏A̡K͏̛E̴ ̧.̷.̨̕͘.͘ ͘U̴S ̨҉́.̛.̴.̀͟͠"
"...̵̕ ̶S̨͏̨LȨE͟P̛͞!͠"
The vampire's influence reasserts itself again, and Sheva laughs.
DM Default |
The darkness does move with Galador, but Sheva you need to actually activate Devil sight to gain blindsight as dark vision does not work within darkness.
Good roleplay guys. Vasillios is up.
Vasilios Teras |
The fire inside grows brighter and hotter... Vasilios thinks of all the things he hates...
-No! This has happened too many times before! Fight it!
-Ahhhhrrrgg!!!!!
With a roaring shout, Vasilios lunges himself forward, trying to tackle Sheva.
Tackle: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Not trying to damage her.
DM Default |
As it stands, The cloud of darkness is cast at the point where Galador was since there is no reasonable way she can actually use it on an object which she could then stick to Galador. As such, Sheva was in melee with Galador meaning she is still inside the darkness.
TLDR: Sheva in a stationary darkness cloud, Galador out of it, and Vasillios moving in for a tackle.
Vasillios Disadvantage due to Darkness: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Vasillios you succeed in your attack, but are you grappling her or tackling her to the ground?
