The hellknight takes the prisoner from Vera. "Your devotion to duty and the order of Cheliax is admirable. May Asmodeus smile upon your deed this day." He takes the man through a doorway to the rear of the building. Through the solitary window of the barracks' lobby, you see the fading light of daylight. Night will fall soon.

Before the Hellknight leaves, Kurt speaks up.
"We have heard an unsubstantiated but reliable report that the town of Mulberry was destroyed by some occult summoning. Again, unsubstantiated but it is likely worth checking out. The informant indicated the trouble may be heading this way."
Upon leaving the garrison he turns to Ulfred, "Do we head back to your halfling friend's place?"
Vera Magda |
"It was spoken by a man who was kidnapping citizenry and selling them as slaves." Vera does not follow Kurt to the door, instead staying at the barracks to continue her conversation. "It was apparently a target of their trafficking and was subsequently destroyed, but that is all of the information I have at the moment."
Kurt Iron |
Kurt nods.
"The information we recieved indicated that the citizenry may have been used in some type of giant conjuring, perhaps as sacrifices though that part is my base speculation. The ringleader appeared to be a female half elf with red hair.
In addition, near that town earlier we encountered some strange type of zombie, filled with some strange slime and corruption. I have not seen its like, though I am no expert.
The slavers who shared this information indicated they thought this town might be next, though again that was simply speculation, they were none too bright.
I felt it my civic duty to inform you in the event that trouble is indeed on this way."
Finishing what is for him an extremely long speech, Kurt simply stops speaking and waits for a response.

"I have no solid evidence, just heresay from individuals that have moved on, plus my own experience and supposition. It was my duty as a citizen of Chiliax to report what I have learned, sadly I can offer no more at this time."
At that he steps back, face impassive, ready for the hellknight to, rightfully, dismiss his warning from lack of evidence.
Maybe we should have let the slaver live and report, yet he knew of our earlier lawbreaking and that might have led to our attempted arrest, and Ulfred and I would likely die resisting. A serious quandry for sure.

"Thank you for your honesty. While I wouldn't ordinarily take stock in a single rumor, there have been strange sightings outside the town as of late. Your theory of a powerful conjuring makes sense and I shall send out a messenger bird at first light. I'll take this man off your hands and see if he knows anything about what is going on. A long shot for sure, but somethings fate does smile."
