I know there's been purely 'investigation' so far and that this is not a socially oriented group. If we can just get through this last social encounter, we get into the meat of the adventure. Let's try to get the posting back up guys, and we'll be seeing some combat soon enough.

Male Shabti Unchained Summoner (Soulbound)

Annurian sits down, looking at the others, but politely refuses the tea. Far from being intelligent, wise and much less charismatic, he tried to focus on the investigation and get the conversation going, hoping his colleagues would jump in to conduct the conversation more charmingly.

It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. We had talked to a smith, Lohakar, about a certain falchion. I believe you recall such weapon?

And that's what lack of mental skills does to you, folks! Don't do it at home :) As you can see, direct and not too skilled at all!

Nalina mostly stands behind Annurian and nods, showing she is interested but not adding to the conversation.

HP 83/83 | Nonlethal 0 | Burn 0/7 | AC 20/T 15/FF 18 | DR 4/Adamantine |Fort +12, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +2, Perception +13

I'm guessing in the name of expediency I can have the weapon as Drake had it before but w sent him to wait out back?

Harsk will produce the weapon (all be it reluctantly) in response to Annurian's comment, Indeed. The weapon was found near evidence of a crime we were investigating. Upon tracking its origin we were told you were the owner...

HP 75/104; THP 0; NL 18; Burn 3/8; AC 25/17/19; Saves 12/14e/5; Perception +17

That makes sense. It doesn't do me any good.

"Oh, there it is!" Lankesh says happily. Then he sees that it's broken. "Oh bother....This sword was stolen from me a week ago. I had it specially made too! Where did you find it?"

HP 83/83 | Nonlethal 0 | Burn 0/7 | AC 20/T 15/FF 18 | DR 4/Adamantine |Fort +12, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +2, Perception +13

Sense Motive?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Boo.

The weapon was discarded along with some rather heinous evidence of foul deeds. CAn you tells us more about the theft?

"Certainly. I had it made mainly as a show piece. I'm not much of a warrior. I had it with me on my last trip to the market, and set it aside as I was negotiating a deal. When I returned to my things, I found the sword missing. I was upset at the time, but theft is unfortunately a common occurrence in Niswan. I should have kept the sword by my side instead of letting it out of my sight. I'd be happy to answer any more questions you have, if you think it would help."

Male Shabti Unchained Summoner (Soulbound)

Ill try a sense motive here...

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Impressive!

HP 83/83 | Nonlethal 0 | Burn 0/7 | AC 20/T 15/FF 18 | DR 4/Adamantine |Fort +12, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +2, Perception +13

Can you tell us at least, where you left the objects? Who you were negotiating with? Perhaps there was a witness...

"Well, I was at my own stall. As for who I was dealing with, many customers. It took me some time to notice the theft. You could ask around in the market, but I fear you will have little luck. I already did so myself on the day of the theft."

Male Shabti Unchained Summoner (Soulbound)

Maybe we could start by going to your stall... And maybe, I suppose, you'd have some sort of log of your customers for the day?

"Yes, let's have a look at your stall." Nalina says, eyeing the man with curiosity.

The merchant gladly takes the group to his stall in the nearby marketplace. By the time they arrive the market is largely closed for the evening. Lankesh shows them around, the stall is pretty normal and nondescript. As the group is looking around and not finding much of anything, they hear a hissing noise. A moment later 1d4 ⇒ 2 an arrow thunks into a wooden beam inches from Harsk's head. No more missiles follow as the group whirls to search for the shooter. Once they realize that they won't be immediately shot at, they notice a note wrapped around the shaft of the arrow. Lankesh goes pale, and halfway hides behind his stall's counter. "Dear gods! That could have killed one of us!"

"It does not seem as if the shooter was trying to kill you... they're literally sending us a message." Nalina pulls the note off the arrow and reads it aloud.

HP 75/104; THP 0; NL 18; Burn 3/8; AC 25/17/19; Saves 12/14e/5; Perception +17

perception: 17 + 1d20 ⇒ 17 + (4) = 21

As the group left, Drake slipped in behind them, retaining his invisibility. Though he would have brushed against each to let them know he was there.

As the arrow fires, he's looking to see who shot it. Whoever it was was a lead.

Drake saw only that the arrow came from very, very far off. Whoever shot it was an expert sniper. There’s a small note tied to the arrow with a bright silken thread that reads (in Common), “This is your final warning! The promise of death awaits you if you choose to keep interfering!"

The fletching of the arrow is distinctive

DC 20 Appraise check:
The feathers aren’t those normally used
to make arrows

DC 29 Knowledge (arcana) check:
The fletching is made of garuda feathers.

The silk of the note is also distinctive. However, there are four silk mills and more than a dozen home-based silk weavers in the Low-Caste District alone. They will need more information or a lot of footwork to find the silk's source.

After satisfying themselves that Lankesh has nothing more to offer them at the moment, the team decides to return to Lord Raheem to regroup and see if anyone there can identify the silk. As they turn the last corner to get to the palace they come across a grisly sight directly in their path.

The corpse of the rumor monger Mahindra who had directed them to the crime scene earlier lies in the road. It’s fairly obvious that Mahindra died elsewhere, as there’s very little blood around him. He has heavy bruising around the neck, and a stab wound in the chest. His mouth and throat are a bubbled mess, melted away by acid. The body must have been just deposited moments ago, because as the group stands looking at it, passersby see it as well and scream. Soon guards come rushing. After examining the group's writ from Lord Raheem, they take a report from the acolytes, and remove the corpse.

With no more leads, and the cult closing in, they return to their temporary quarters in the palace to seek out Lord Raheem. There is a note tucked under the door when they arrive.

"This silk could be distinct enough to determine where it came from, but I'm no weaponsmith, so the arrow is of no use to me."

Upon seeing the body: "Oh, that poor man! This is our fault! We must be getting close to discovering the cult's whereabouts.... they wouldn't send such a public message otherwise!"

HP 83/83 | Nonlethal 0 | Burn 0/7 | AC 20/T 15/FF 18 | DR 4/Adamantine |Fort +12, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +2, Perception +13

Shoulder no blame Nalina, we act in the best interest of the realm. The cult is the only guilty party here.

At the arrival of yet another note, this time at their temprorary quarters, Harsk moves to read what new missive might be shared with the group.

Harsk picks up the folded sheet of paper and opens it to read the contents. It explodes in his face with a blast of fire.

Reflex save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Fire Damage: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Take 4

The first explosion is followed immediately by two much larger booms. Fire and concussion wash over the four standing in the hallway.

Everyone needs to give me two DC 14 saves. If you pass them you take half damage as per fireball

Blast #1: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 6, 1, 6) = 19

reflex, evasion: 14 + 1d20 ⇒ 14 + (15) = 29

Zero damage. Were the secondary booms from traps or targeted?

They came from the note, no sound of casting or anything like that.

Annurian sees himself surrounded by fire and breathes through it, feeling the burn consume his fire outsider body.

Immediately his hair starts catching fire, as well as his eyes. There's smoke around him, as he gathers power, looking in all directions for anything suspicious - like enemies. He sees particularly excited for moments - as if some sort of pyromania was pushing him.

i.e. I have trap spotter and get a chance to deal with it before it goes off.

He'll check around for anybody who had an odd reaction to this. If not, he'll head in to see if there are any clues there.

I thought we were done with the 'trying to get a clue' phase :)

Harsk grunts from the myraid blasts nodding slowly at Drake, Fine by me.

At the sound of the explosions several palace staff and guards come running. The servants immediately set to putting out fires, as the guards shout asking what happened and if the group is okay. After being informed of the trapped note, one of the palace servants speaks up.

"I saw a group of workers make a delivery to your chambers earlier. Perhaps it was they who left the trap."

Drake snaps of questions, "What did they look like? Where did they go? How long ago?" He seems ready to sprint after them.

“I don’t think so, mam. I will fetch Lord Raheem, I’m sure he can find out where they were from.”

Minutes later Lord Raheem arrives. “It seems the workers in question left paperwork saying they came from the Apananda Silk Mill. Go there quickly and try to stop the cult before they strike again.”

"I worry that their paperwork could have been left as a trap to lure us there, but that does not really change the fact that we must go. I could heal our wounds, but it would exhaust my abilities for the day. Could you provide some healing to those of us damaged by this insidious trap, Lord Raheem?"

"I suppose we have some potions on hand..."

The lord sends a servant to fetch them, and a moment later gives each monk a potion of cure moderate wounds. "That's the best I can do. Time is of the essence, they are already one step ahead of us!"

Male Shabti Unchained Summoner (Soulbound)

Annurian didn't take much damage either, so he just thanked and packed the potion for later. You never know when you might actually need it.

Time to go to this silk mill. - the Ifrit says, slowly calming down his own flames. He was sweating, and it was pretty obvious he had a hard time controlling his own excitation.

Uploaded the map to Roll20. Up to you guys what happens now. I've placed a permanent link in the campaign description at the top of the page.

Before you guys can see the map, I'll need to set up your tokens. So please load up the Roll20 page once with your PC's name as your name for the campaign. I'll make tokens and give you ownership after everyone has joined the R20 game.

LOL I just looked at my sheet and realized I had a wand of cure light wounds on there. I'll finish up healing anyone with more than 2 HP missing. Only need to roll a 5 or higher to activate.

Just before we enter the building, Nalina will cast shield on herself from a wand as well.

Assuming Rashk is Drake, I have your tokens set up. You can move them around and take a look.

Doh, too many games, Fixed

He'll check the windows to see how many there are. He's also looking to see if the doors and windows are trapped or locked. He'll let everybody know what's up so we can figure out how best to assault it. I see a lot of shattering glass in our future.

There are four windows, two of which have curtains drawn on the inside. The other two open onto the mill's main workroom.

A1

Huge looms cover most of the floor in this area. On each loom, hundreds or thousands of yards-long warp threads wind through intricate wooden frames, and spools of silken thread hang down from tall wooden stands that rise up toward the rafters of the high-ceilinged roof, ready to be loaded onto shuttles. There are windows high on the western wall, and the crowded floor space between the looms is a mess of clutter.

Here workers weave silk thread into cloth. There are four mill workers here, busy watching the door while they pretend to work.

You should be able to look through the windows by moving your token to them.

HP 75/104; THP 0; NL 18; Burn 3/8; AC 25/17/19; Saves 12/14e/5; Perception +17

He'll sneak back to the group. "I can't tell what's going on on the east side. The west end has four people who are trying to look like workers, but seem more like thugs to me. Here's my suggestion. I'll sneak to the far window. Harsk and Annurian sneak and go below the next two windows. Nalina stays behind the wall until the signal. We shoot at the thugs, which will break the windows. Then we move in. We're a pretty agile group, so avoiding glass shouldn't be that hard as we go in. Harsk won't even have to worry."

Glass shouldn't reduce our attacks by that much damage. A few points. Since acrobatics is a class skill and Dex is important, we can Cirque de Soleil the entry to avoid the glass shards.

At notion of the glass Harsk merely nods, Drake was right, that the geokineticist was usually beyond such minor hurts anymore. Otherwise the oread looks to Annurian to make sure they are in sync with their role.

Joined in on Roll 20, let me know if there are any issues there.

Trying to work on a post but my internet is not cooperating at the moment. I will get it up at some point today.

Okay, everything should be set up for Drake's plan. If you agree to do it that way, then give me some attack rolls. I'm assuming Harsk and Annurian crawled to where they are now, ready to pop up and blast through the windows. Drake is still invis. Go get 'em!

I'll roll initiative after you guys post your surprise actions. One standard action each (and a 5' step if you want, and/or a swift).
