Here's a thread for some OOC yammering!

Currently we have...

Gimpy Grumps - Ratfolk Alchemist
Kal'Tos - Dwarf Barbarian
Adrian Weiss - Human Hunter
Skivven "Pip" - Ratfolk Investigator
(Sidewinder2K) - _______ Ranger

We've got furry folks and folks who wear furs!

NOTE: I've added a bit more info to the 'Campaign Info' tab. Read up! :D

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

Okay! It's almost midnight for me... So I'm out for 6-8 hours.

In case you didn't see it, Gimpy's real name is Rizien "Gimpy" Grumps.

See you tomorrow! ;D

M Ratfolk Investigator 3

I'll finish my character tomorrow. A shame Rizien dropped swarming but oh well.

Is there a trick or free program you use for putting up your character sheet? Or is it a copy paste thing in your alias? I'm fine typing it out, I'd just rather save myself trouble if i can help it.

Skivven "Pip" wrote:

Mythweavers hosts pathfinder character sheets (as well as nearly anything else), so you could link a sheet there.

I also tend to make an alias and spoiler things on it for easy access. Feel free to take a look at some of my other aliases to see how I mean, once you get the format of it typed out it only takes copy/pasting from the first alias onto the next one.

The only reason I dropped it was because I was the only ratfolk. I can now keep it and just drop cheek pouches

UPDATED ROSTER:

Gimpy Grumps - Ratfolk Alchemist
Kal'Tos - Dwarf Barbarian
Adrian Weiss - Human Hunter
Skivven "Pip" - Ratfolk Investigator
Daryl "This isn't my real name' Dixon - Human Ranger
rhino43grr - _______ Hunter

(I know I said 5 max, I'm a filthy liar!)

Grand Lodge

Looking forward to playing with everyone. I'll be making an alias for my Hunter this evening after work.

male Dwarf barbarian 3

I will have background up later today.

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

I have gimpy all edited for the campaign. Now I don't want you all asking me for an endure elements spell! I have the formula, but I can only use 5 extracts a day! If you guys want to keep warm, build a fire, or better yet, buy winter clothes!

Oh, and if you buy oil... That's wonderful! I have 5 vials but no lantern because they make great splash bombs, that I also add my Intelligence modifier to. :)

Oh. I also have the pack rat feat, so I can just pull out any mundane(or alchemical) supplies as long as it don't cost too much and I have the gold to pay for it :)(the max gp right now is 35)

Hey all! I just popped up the first post in the gameplay thread, but before we go with posting, I'd like to discuss with you all why exactly you lot are together in the first place!

There are two ways we can go about this.

The first way is to communally agree that this group are partners in some way, perhaps you six (3 of which are ranger-types) are all in the trapping/hunting business? Kal'Tos being the 'muscle'? And our rat friends hired for their keen noses? Just a thought!

The second way is for us to pretend we're all sitting around a table and go about looking to the player to your right and discussing how your two characters know one another. A bit more time consuming, but hey, it works!

Just as a note, I'll be granting bonus EXP to anyone who goes above and beyond when it comes to them solidifying their character in the party. So make friends, it'll be worth it!

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

I actually came up with a great tie-in story when I did a discussion origin. Here ,let me give you a link to see it...here it is

It had began on the discussion page, but moved to the gameplay because we were basically already started.

I really liked how it turned out, I hope we can do something similar

Grand Lodge

I was just getting ready to ask if anyone wanted to link backstories somehow with my yet-unnamed hunter.

I'm not opposed to being related to one of the humans or our dwarf if someone wants to have a brother.

I second this motion. :)

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

Why not? But I'm from the south. I don't know how that would work... Where are you from?

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

Okay, I suggest gimpy met with the rest of the party either when he was headed north, or when he had arrived and was new to the area. But I also want to say, he's only been up here for a year.

He would have likely met the others in a tavern or along the road north. The had ridden in with a merchant as a gaurd, but wasn't paid for the protection. He actually more or less made the merchant think he was getting good protection, when in fact he was just being jipped.
Perhaps the merchant was attacked, and one of your players helped in the defense of the wagon?

If he is a dwarf, Kal'Tos would be happy to welcome a relative to the campaign.

male Dwarf barbarian 3

I was thinking that Kal'Tos is a local, but lives a few hours walk outside of town. He tends to be direct and to the point which annoys some people and his short temper has gotten him into trouble before.

I am fine with most of the characters being connected by a hunting/ trapping business, but as an alternative what if they are all part of the local militia?

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

Oh, you ninja'ed me as I was editing...

I could have joined the militia as a way to get paid, or I helped as a local healer, and helped sick with my alchemy.

I can make him a dwarf. That would actually work out well, giving us two characters of each race and making it easier for me to figure out a name.

The fur trade and the coal mines are really all the Northlands have going for it, so if you would like to link your characters to one or both of those professions, feel free!

Militia would be another good place of employ, since the Duke would likely send his own militia after the killer.

If you both go through with having brother characters, consider yourself in the 'bonus EXP' category. :)

Nothing binds a party together better than blood.

You know, I could also pay you hunter types for ingredients that I'm too lazy to get(or rather I'm too cold to get), and then eventually became friends with you :)

That would also help because I would have found you since I don't know the local herbs and vegetation.

To Skivven "Pip": your investigator gave me an idea! How about a good old Sherlock and Watson relationship? We could be close friends who moved north. You have your deductive reasoning, and I have my chemical analysis. The combined skills almost mimic the Sherlock and Watson relationship to a part.

We could also work for one of the permanent mercenary troops, and happen to be known for our skills as investors.

Male Human Flying Blade Swashbuckler 1

Hey there, Sidewinder2k here with a completed profile for my ranger.

Still working on his backstory and such.

I actually kind of like this. I was thinking that Ragnar would have been a sort of northlands wilderness guide for hire, and its certainly possible that you could have employed him in finding whatever herbs grow beneath the ever-present snows. I had also thought that he would be employed by the local militias when they have to go further north, or mining prospectors looking to find new coal veins in the trackless wilderness of the north.

Still a work in progress for his background though.

Added a little link to the Campaign Info tab regarding the official rules for snowy environments. Those of you who are thinking they will be just fine without something to ride miiiight want to take a look at how much snow slows you down! :)

Looks great, Sidewinder.

Aah, but I was smart enough to pack a pair of snowshoes!

SNOWSHOES
Price 5 gp; Weight 4 lbs.
These high-tension nets of rope or sinew in wooden frames are lashed to the feet to spread your weight across the snow, making you much less likely to break through the crust and rendering walking much easier. Snowshoes reduce the penalty for walking through heavy snow by 50%; for example, if moving through snow normally costs you 2 squares of movement (1 square plus a 1 square penalty) per square traveled, snowshoes reduce this cost to 1.5 squares per square traveled. Snowshoes may supplement another outfit.

Kal'Tos will adjust things slightly so he has a pair of these.

M Ratfolk Investigator 3

I just got home from work so working on my character now.

@Gimp - I'm fine with something like being friends such as Sherlock and Watson. My original backstory idea was he was from the South and handled investigations in the warren. After his girlfriend dumped him, he went traveling and an Oracle told him his destiny lay to the north which is why he went North. I can edit that to tie us both together if you want.

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

That's great! Make sure to pack snowshoes

®pip- that's okay, it's a great idea seeing we're both ratfolk. I got swarming back as well :) besides, that sounds a lot like our famous investigator anyways.

M Ratfolk Investigator 3

Do you want to be from the same warren so we're distantly related?

And as my dice are in my car, let's see how I do (I don't care if you see my roles or not):
Starting Gold 1: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6) = 14
Starting Gold 2: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6) = 9

Lvl 2 hp: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Lvl 3 hp: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Edit: So computer dice like me. Physical dice hate me. I've never rolled this well at an actual table.

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

Sure, fine by me. We could be cousins on our mother's aunt's brother's son twice removed

Edit: yeah my HP ended at a 9... And the first time I rolled for gold I got a 6 on 3d6... I rolled 1,2,3...

The dice gods dislike me... Especially since when I DM, my players tend to roll 20 on all their first attacks 0.o

M Dwarf Hunter 3

Set up my alias for this campaign. In the process of putting the character sheet together now.

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

Okay, so, me and pip are from the same warren. The reason we came north was by the words of an Oracle. Gimpy followed mostly because he liked pip, but claims that he cares more about the alcohol.

I'd still like to give us a year up north to establish a timeline of events or at least give us a whole year to be noticed by the Duke...

M Ratfolk Investigator 3

@Gimpy: How about we solved the case of the Murder of the Baker's Wife after the Duke announced a party but before the Baker could make the desserts.

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

@pip, sounds good:)

...who did it? Was it the BUTLER!?!

or was it just a big mistake?

and did the culprit say "and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling rats and your dog too!"

:)

Yeah, we don't need specific details about the case other than who did it.

How about a jealous woman who was an old friend of the baker and his wife?

Edit: Who thought she could marry the baker after the wife had died.

... Actually I think I can come up with some interesting specifics :D

M Ratfolk Investigator 3

I'll let you figure out the rest. Still building the character. I've just got feats, background traits, and arms, armor and items and final backstory.

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

the case of the baker's wife!:
The baker was married to a lovely lady who cared deeply for him. They were maddeningly in love. One of the wife's old friends, a woman who was poor and not as beautiful as the baker's wife, was jealous of the wife. She had always loved the baker, but he never noticed her.

Then as years went by, the baker slowly became more concerned about work and his position in the Town. He cared less and less for his wife. The jealous woman saw this, and began a dastardly plan to murder the wife and take her place!

One day the baker was requested to make the deserts for a party the duke was throwing in response to a local tradition. The baker was so busy, he was hardly ever home. So the woman went to the baker's wife and invited her over for tea.

She was found two days later, face down in the snow with not a mark on her body.

Hearing about this, Skivven took Gimpy to investigate. Upon examination of the body, Pip discerned that the woman died of poisoning. With help from Gimpy's ingredient supplier (Ragnar), they learned it was a very rare poison, but native to the area. With that in mind, they began to investigate all the people close to the family.

After a few dead ends, they finally found the tea leaves with poison in the jealous woman's house. Once Gimpy confirmed it was indeed the same poison, they accused the woman and she was captured and tried.

There's a nice tale of deception :)

Note: you may want to have the Duke give us titles or such. Nothing big, just something like a higher than normal citizen

M Ratfolk Investigator 3

Sounds good.

Please tell me this party does not count on me for damage. I'm capped at about a to hit of +4 and a D4+0 worth of damage for now and I only get a little better later on.

UPDATED FINAL ROSTER:

Gimpy Grumps - Ratfolk Alchemist
Kal'Tos - Dwarf Barbarian
Adrian Weiss - Human Hunter
Skivven "Pip" - Ratfolk Investigator
Ragnar Sleetson - Human Ranger
Grunyar Tos - Dwarf Hunter

Thanks for the extra backstory effort Gimpy/Pip, consider yourself in the 'Bonus EXP' bandwagon!

The Exchange

male ratfolk Vigilante (Gunmaster)

Okay, just let us know when to start:)

Oh, pip... I have a long spear. 1d6 DMG with reach. It allows one to attack while the real fighters are up front:) and if you had one too, you could use swarming with me :)

M Ratfolk Investigator 3

I think I'm going to scrap the Sleuth Archetype for no Archetype. Same background and career plans but this way I can keep the Alchemist's extracts ability and ties us together better.

As soon as we get the O.K. from everyone in this thread, I'll open up the gameplay thread for posting!

I am good, some more integration with Grunyar may happen, but i don't see it holding up getting started.

To be honest, I do more damage bomb-wise than with my long spear, but that is because I add my int modifier to the damage :/

It's best if I carry around a butt-load of oil and pre rig them as bombs... But if we need to we can always swarm...

And then I could always hand over an enlarge person extract :)

Or better, I use my long spear and give you a long arm extract.

edit: also, you may want some different extracts, or at least ones that you'd use more.

It's taking a bit longer than I'd like to build my character. Never played a Hunter before, so I'm hoping to compare against Adrian once his sheet is up.

I'll let you take the lead on the basic background and we can expand from there if you like.

But I tend to stay up till 11 doing this, as well as updating all my games.
