I feel like rubbing my hands together and cackling maniacally at the possibilities of awesomeness with this group.
I was chatting with Ibid the other day, and I compared it to playing WoW, and finding the BEST PUG EVAAAAR. Then instantly creating a guild. The PbP Guild of Awesomeness. Look at us go!
I hope we all still like each other that far down the road, I would love to make it that far with these characters, and this group of players. This is what gaming should be!

I'm reviewing the hunter class and am thinking this is what I may pick. My other choices were Druid, Cleric, or Witch. I'm going to build a hunter tonight and see if it looks like it would be fun, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone thinks one of those other three classes would fit the part better.
@Jaender the Black - I completely agree with your post above, this is the best PbP group ever.
Silbeg |
I also think it would be way cool if we were to meet up IRL and game. One opportunity would be Gen Con, but maybe somewhere else?
Of course, it will be rough for Amaranti, unless he moves to the states!
Hey, if you all aren't doing anything Feb 13-15 next year, you should come up to Con of the North! We'll have 12 tables of PFS going all Con, including Legacy of the Stonelords! And, we have room for GMs still, as well!
Jaender the Black |
Minnesota.... In February. I'm from Michigan, and even I know that is just crazy! :)
it would be fun one day, I would love to finally make it to gen con eventually

Also agreed. My first two PbPs were a big let down for me. They started well, but bombed in the end. I figured it was down to the GMs - whether by negligence to the gameplay thread or recruiting strategy in not getting the right players. Instead of giving up, I wrote my manifesto / play guide, bought Trial by Machine and the rest is history!
Now, I don't even want to PbP if it isn't with you guys (or Trapper Mors). So happy it worked out this way.
So, who's up for doing some tables on PbP Gameday 3?
**EDIT** As for RL, it's warmer in Texas! GenCon 2015 is a real possibility... but perhaps Google+ Hangouts is a more realistic goal?
Acre |
I like the idea of doing a game with google hangouts, that would be amazing! Jaender/Cyrus and I already do that for our weekly game and it seems to work fine (unless he has a different thought on the matter)... though in that case, I am the only one video conferencing in for the game.
I'd also entertain the idea of meeting up somewhere, at a Con or something.

I am already set to run two tables, and maybe play one or two. That, on top of our games.
Trying to hit a goal of four stars by them end of Con of the North. Gonna be tough, but I am gonna try. Just hit three before Gen Con, so this is a fast pace
We will have to see. Maybe I'll eventually wanna try a live virtual table
GM Damo |
Oh, for the Gameday, I just meant we sign our PbPs up to that and run them as we always have. Same group, same fun + boons!
RL virtual tabletop works out for my friends back in Australia and I. May be a bit tricky with 7 people, but I'd be willing to give it a go.
Jaender the Black |
If the battle Oracle can channel, I think we will be just fine. I need to spend my pp from trial on a wand of clw anyways. We have plenty of healing I think

@Strong Brute: Thanks for modifying the fluff. Works very well now! As a reward, yours will be the first hook on the gameplay thread. :-) I'll post hooks for the others as I get backgrounds. Eventually, I'll make it a group one, but there'll be information in all of them that will combine to provide the backstory for the module.
@TheBobJones: Great to hear your character is done! I agree with Jaender re: healing. Without giving too much away, some healing gear is included in the adventure also - both before and during the dungeon crawl. You will also have the opportunity to back out and rest if you really need to.
So, enjoy the hunter, Acre and great stuff all! Remember to post with your alias once you have a name sorted out.
Roudantaimi |
Once my gunladin actually gets some paladin levels, there will be healing from him as well (lay on hands / channel). But that's lvl 3 on current plan. Going mysterious stranger -route, planning just to take one level of gunslinger, and then full-on paladin. Let's see if it would work, or is this just a catastrophe waiting to happen :)
Regarding RL gaming... Well, yes, the ocean between us is a slight issue. But never say never... The world is small, and flight tickets might be sold cheap. But virtual tabletop would be much realistic option, at least on short run.
Jaender the Black |
In fact, illustrious GM, I would like to declare that right now, if possible, to spend my two PP points on a wand of CLW before making the trek from Absalom down to Kassan. I will update my profile accordingly. I am going to flesh out my background this weekend, I took the day off of work today to help my father-in-law get ready for the winter, so I have some thinking time ahead during all the manual labor...
Edit: my only non-PFS PbP uses Roll20 as the virtual table top for the game... I am kinda diggin it. I could see it being very fun for a google hangouts session to have a board at our virtual fingertips, with built in rolling options. I am sure there are more services out there that do the same thing...
Roudantaimi |
Oh poo, time runs out, and fluffy part not done... Well, maybe I'll have a moment to write it down on sunday.
GM Damo |
@Roundantaimi: Fluff isn't really required until later on. I need crunch by Monday, but today I just need a name, class and a mentor by "C.O.B". The crunch is done (so you're great for Monday). I'll pick the paladin as your mentor if you have no objections. Also, absolutely perfect archetype for a Gunladin, by the way! Nice find. Works well all the way up to level 5, with the replaced class features all playing perfectly into the heavily armored paladin with a high charisma. I'd plan on tacking at least 1 more level of gunslinger at some point, though, if only to get that will save bonus!
Also, I first read your name in my head as "Round Tummy". You just have to make him a pot-bellied gnome. You just have to!
@Jaender: Absolutely fine. Even if your last adventure hadn't ended in Absalom, I believe prestige rewards can be had anywhere there's a PFS outpost. I would rule that Cygar constitutes a PFS contact, and your faction would be able to find away deliver your prestige reward to you. That's kosher, right, Silbeg? I only ask for the future, Trial by Machine ended in a massive metropolis so minor acquisitions like a wand of CLW are no problems at all there.
GM Damo |
So... you're a male Nagaji masquerading as a female human? How odd! I love it. I'm assuming the townsfolk go along with it out of fear or respect for Vargidan, and not because they truly are fooled by the wig.
Oh, the Vargidan family just got a little stranger. It is a testament to how odd they already were that it was literally only a little.
Feel free to write yourself in along the lines of the post I wrote for Strong Brute, or let me know if you want me to do it.
Hamilton Trask |
Since time is indeterminate between adventures, it is assumed you've been through an appropriate location that you can call in favors (make prestige purchases), so, yeah, it is all good.
I am still working on details in regards to Trask, just a lot on my plate today. I am creating two characters (including him), working, and prepping to run Voice in the Void tomorrow.
Very briefly, Hamilton Trask was probably a criminal, who was "reformed" by the Silver Crusade during the Fifth Mendevian Crusade. He's been used on some clandestine operations that got "messy". I was originally thinking he was going to be LG, but I think he's more likely LN -- he has no compunctions about doing what is "needed".
GM Damo |
Sweet, sounds good. Like the background flavor - and no problems about being busy. Your posting frequency still continues to impress me.
My posting frequency, on the other hand, depresses me at times. I seriously had hand cramps from checking my iPhone too often a while back. Been doing more on the laptop - but that hasn't seemed to dull my almost religious checking of the boards during the day.
_Ophiuchus_ |
And I took the Haunted Curse as Merian is my Haunted Spirit. Feel free to use her to 'reek havoc' upon Ophiuchus, as he would say.
Hamilton Trask |
I am going to try and get all the stuff done for Trask this weekend, but just don't have time right this minute. Hopefully this evening.
Vox Banner |
Bah! Cyrus'd or Jaender'd by GM Damo! :)
_Ophiuchus_ |
after that interrogation scene who really knows ...
FYI ... If Ophiuchus is too over the top I can always tone it down some. Just trying out new things. Can't wait to get Finarin and Ophiuchus in a room together.
Papasteve08 |
"Cyrus'd". It could only be "Jaender'd" if Steve himself were a ninja. Wait... is he?
Bah! You've figured out my secret. [mumble]now I have to do something about it...[sigh]
Hey, you guys want to be invited to a BBQ?
Jaender the Black |
Yes, please don't stop Ophiuchus, I am loving it. Your RP of your curse is making mine feel far inferior... Really well done.
GM Damo |
@Ophiuchus: sorry for the delay in asking this - I was busy. Hope I haven't overstepped the bounds and into your character's domain with the ghost of Merian. I thought it was a good way to play up your haunted curse.
I'm happy to cede control to you (I've got 8 more posts before I can't delete her or change her name). Also, if you find an avatar you prefer, also, please let me know and I'll happily switch it.
Anyway, hope you enjoy it and let me know if it ever gets enough (assuming it isn't already). Loving your character - all of your characters actually - so far!

Why would anyone be mad at bonus role playing - you really added another layer that frankly I should have though of. Carry on my good man. Hope the hangover is not too bad.
GM Damo |
The hangover is fine. The hole in my wallet is an entirely different matter. Couldn't find a flush to love, so I fell in love with middle pair instead. Ah, good cards, why do you always find yourselves in the hands of my enemies?
As for Merian, glad you like it. Some folk get a little protective about their characters and class features. Just wanted to make sure it was fine (and I was pretty sure it would be). :-)
GM Damo |
Looks like everyone's got their characters sorted. Thanks guys! I know it's not easy finding time to do all that character creation and background building during the week. You've all done a remarkable job.
To make my life easier, I've already printed out the chronicle sheets and started to fill them out. It would really help if you could just quickly post the following:
1. Chronicle # (for most of you, it'll be 1)
2. Pathfinder society character number.
3. Roll a day job check if you have one to make (and do please let me know if you don't have one).
Roudantaimi |
My first gnome ever... Typing the posts takes quite much longer than with Amaranti :P
1) 1
2) # 96960-7
3) Craft(Alchemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 daaaamn, there seems to market for gunpowder
Vox Banner |
1. 1st chronicle sheet
2. PFS# 141231-3
3. No day job
Jaender the Black |
1. 2nd Chronicle (Trial by Machine)
2. PFS# 133958-3
3. No Day Job (gave up the skill in the re-write)
GM Damo |
Thanks for the rolls all, just got Hamilton to go now.
Vox, I hope that the mayor's droning answered your question. If you ask anyone else further questions about the dangers you might face in the tomb, they say only that traps are what to expect and that you must be wary. The forest is full of dangers also (but nothing specific to this quest, just wild creatures, bandits and the like). The townsfolk, however, whisper of ghouls and fiends from the nine hells that guard the tomb - but these are mostly just tales to scare off children. Each year, several young adults from the town would travel to the tomb and retrieve the flame - so there shouldn't be too much danger, right?

- Day job?
Still debating if I am going to give him my Treasure Map boon (probably will) -- in place of a day job check, he checks a box. Three boxes checked gives him 150Xlevel in gold. I believe for 4PP he can get 3 more boxes.
Sure... I'll do that. That will be chronicle #4 (I'll scan it tonight for you), and make this one #5. Not ideal with a module, but I'll deal with it!
Hamilton Trask |
ok, now my confusion is unwinding a little. Hope the way I brought Trask in wasn't too disruptive to your plans, GM Damo, though I am pretty sure if they were, you'd find a way to undisrupt them!
Besides, being an outsider works very well with Trask's personality. He is cold, calculating, and doesn't play well with others. But, still, he knows when to do his job, and with a cruel efficiency he does so.
Looks like his trapfinding skills will be much in need!
GM Damo |
I've got the treasure map boon on another character also (thank you Gencon!). It doesn't come with XP, does it? It should just be the same as #4 for the purposes of leveling and modules and all that, right?
Vox Banner |
I look away for a few hours and then I am 20 posts behind. Man can this group fly!
@GM Damo: Sure thing, I'll update the profiles right away. Sorry about that.
@Hamilton: I switched the Icons around, I think you were right. Should be all set now.
GM Damo |
Hey, yeah, sorry about the rapid posting! The road has two combats in pretty quick succession. It's secondary to the whole crypt thing, so I didn't want to dwell on them too much. Everyone did so well at the first and I had time to write up the second... so it just kinda happened! The pace from here should be a bit more normal (for us). This combat won't be so easy! Really harsh that you were all prone, but your watchers couldn't match the wolf-scout's stealth roll. Luckily it was the guy with the animal companion on watch and not someone solo...
Thanks for updating your profiles - makes things go so much more smoothly.
Okay, now beat up on some wolves!
GM Damo |
It was my clever way of prodding someone perhaps into an alternative solution... :) If no one beats me to it, I am on it next round.
Didn't mean to make your suggestion less subtle - mainly wanted to make it clear that you had meat in your trail rations... then got carried away. ;-)
Also, I've been watching the World Series of Poker this year. I don't think Jack Links is sponsoring them anymore, but they sponsored the WSOP for so long that it's definitely stuck in my head. With jerky and wild creatures, I just couldn't resist the shameless plug.
