The Mayor once again speaks to the townsfolk. "I present to you the brave heroes who will follow in Kassen's footsteps to retrieve the Everflame! Some of them may not return, but I say to you that their sacrifice shall not be forgotten. Go brave heroes, and do not return until you have the eternal fire." With that, they mayor points to the south, the direction of Kassen's tomb. The townsfolk begin waving goodbye with cold, solemn looks on most of their faces.
A good time to introduce yourselves, then I immediately go onto the first part of the adventure. Yes, I move fast in PFS.
Theadric Greyhood |
A halfling Pathfinder listen halfheartedly to the mayor's words until he hears about flame and the possibility of never returning.
Then, the blonde-headed male perks up, and suddenly looks like a prize fighter entering the ring. He punches the air and bounces on the balls of his feet intermittently.
Despite the solemn villagers, the halfling looks eager and excited.
"Yeah! WOOOOO!!!!! I'm here...we can get started now! WoooooOOOOOO!!!" the halfling moves down the line giving high-fives to villagers, though if any fail to return his offering, he simply ignores the slight or fist-bump's the offender's shoulder.
"YEAH!!!" he says again as he takes his seat. "I'm Hood! The famous stuntman! But you already knew that, I'm sure!" he says. He seems unable to stop moving for very long.
Garg Mel |
Garg walks with the group with a confident smile on his face. He waves at the crowd taking in the last bit of civilization for awhile. As they get to the end of the procession at the edge of town, Garg, without looking back, draws his warhammer and raises it high above his head. "We shall return with the Everflame!"
Orwynn Duskscale |
A large black scaled warrior steps up as the group is introduced to the crowd, saluting the mayor with a right fist over his heart and then turning to the crowd continuing the salute. Stepping forward,
"I pledge to return with the Everflame or to never return at all, so help me goddess!"
Karuut |
In walks a Tiefling, scale armor strapped to his very muscular body. His eyes glow red like coals from a raging fire. He looks around, Hmph, what does teh Society want with me this time?
George Chadwick Parker |
A short, well-dressed man appears, wearing a thick silken suit. He looks like he's enjoying the show, waving at the crowd and blowing kisses at the ladies. He appears a bit out of place, armed with simply a spear, and carrying a big leather bag.
As soon as he's out of earshot from the crowd, he turns to his companions, speaking in a melodic Nirmathan accent. "Howdy, fellas! Name's Parker, George Parker, pleased to meet ya, how do you do. Now, if ya don't mind me askin', why has the Society sent some brave strapping gents like yeself to poor old Nirmathan? All got from the Venture Cap was a suspicious look, a rather mean grin, and directions to this 'ere fine town." He pauses for a moment to give a wide smile. "Granted, there was a godsdamned crowd out for blood chasin' me..."
Theadric Greyhood |
After Hood finishes his pre-adventure celebrations, he moves to a saddled pony and mounts up.
The pony rears up once he is in the saddle, and the pair commence a brisk run up and down the street, then finally circles around the Pathfinders. If anything, the pony seems more eager to commence the journey than the halfling.
Once the pair settle down, Hood turns to his companions.
"Say...does anyone here have any fire they can produce on command? Because if so...I'm going to be pretty excited!"
George Chadwick Parker |
"Well, since you asked so nicely, I got me a flint and some lamp oil. I guess I can be persuaded to give 'em to ya.", says Parker, smiling at the halfling. "Say, that's a mighty fine steed ya got there. What's his name?"
Note to self, don't give THIS horse sugar cubes...

Important loot, please read
Before you all leave you are handed the following, Each individual gets the following: 5 days of trail rations, a small tent, a winter blanket, a waterskin and a map. obviously if the entire scenario takes more than 5 days, you dip into your own trail rations and start using character gold worth of rations, as the first 5 given to you are free, but only last for the scenario.
George: you get a potion of cure light wounds, but it only lasts for the scenario. using it here does not count as having bought it.
Theadric: you get 3 torches and a tinder box
Karuut: you get 3 tinderwigs
Garg: you get a grappling hook
Asterion: 50 feet of hemp rope
Orywynn: a bottle of local brandy (why do you need this, I don't know, it just part of the scenario)
you can trade items, put it in your profile that you have these items, but you probably want to mark it under temporary gear, as you don't get to take this stuff with you outside the scenario as according to the pfs rules unless you actually buy the items.
2 hours down the road, you all see a telephone booth appear from the sky, no it is not a tardis. and out comes 3 orcs.
The orcs are 20 feet from the front liners and 25 feet from the back liners, you are in formation of 3 wide by 2 long.
init: 0 + 1d20 ⇒ 0 + (3) = 3 the 3 orcs
init: 5 + 1d20 ⇒ 5 + (18) = 23 Theadric
init: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (10) = 13 Orywynn
init: 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 2 + (20) = 22 Asterion
init: 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 2 + (5) = 7 George
init: 1 + 1d20 ⇒ 1 + (7) = 8 Garg
init: 2 + 1d20 ⇒ 2 + (4) = 6 Karuut

George Chadwick Parker |
What the actual...
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
When it's his turn, Parker will try and talk to the weird orcs, preferably from a rather large distance and behind the big fighter.
Garg Mel |
Precombat Garg looks at the grappling book. "This should go on the end of that rope." He hangs the grappling book to Asterion.
Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Garg draws his ranceur.
"Well, that's something different."
Garg will follow the Paladin and fall in line threatening with the reach weapon.
DoubleGold |
Orwynn cuts one in half and kills it
you don't have to post actions in order and wait for each other to post, you can take your turn as long as you are before the NPCs and in this case you are. This is play by post, if we waited for an actual order, it would take much longer, the only thing that matters is, am I before or after an NPC? Everyone beat the orcs in init.
Asterion Stargard |
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Asterion moves forward and attacks an orc illusion
Elven Curved Blade: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d10 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Theadric Greyhood |
"What?!! Ho! A foe!!!" Hood yells as the orcs appear.
"Not real? Watch me put my lance into these guys, real or not!" the halfling adds as he spurs his pony into action.
However, he appears more interested in doing cool stunts than hitting the target.
lance attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
George Chadwick Parker |
"Oh, heck. It's an illusion, people, ain't real, just like honest pirates or trustworthy Molthuni."
Parker moves closer to the remaining orcs, if there are any.
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 vs touch
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
DoubleGold |
Theatric misses, but george lands some acid good, burning the leg and showing some realistic bone, but no blood, it really must be an illusion.
the orc attacks a front liner, but the illusion cannot hurt those who know is an illusion, only those who don't
Round 2 start
all who failed their will saving throws last round can roll them again this round with a +4 bonus, the save dc is 16.

The illusions were the work of Holgast.
hereos follow or try to follow the map and then it gets dark out. I need 2 survival checks, everyone can aid the dc is 10.
George Chadwick Parker |
"Hell, for a Nirmathan, I am kinda bad at survivalist stuff. I gon try my best, though"
Survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
"Hmm.. The top bit's the north, am I right? And this here should be the place where we're goin'. I do think that I'm kinda pushin' my luck for the moment and that it's gonna bite me in the rear at some point..."
Theadric Greyhood |
"Follow me! I know the way!" Hood exclaims as he takes off quickly toward their destination.
survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 +1 to follow/ID tracks
survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 +1 to follow/ID tracks
DoubleGold |
Heroes are easily able to follow the map easily and set up camp.
It is getting dark and you all hear howling. the map for the crypt is up, but you aren't there yet.
Anyway, I need to know where everyone is at during this rest. By the fire, in your tent closed up, resting in a tree with a cot, 25 feet away from the fire, etc. It is also dark, but not dark dark, as moonlight would help you see. anyone with normal vision has penalties to their perceptions and stuff if you are away from the fire, if you have lowlight or dark, your good to go.
George Chadwick Parker |
"Weeell, y'all strong people can take the watches, I suppose. I'm blind as a dire bat on a sunny beach in the day, let alone during the night,", says Parker, putting his bedroll next to the fire.
He puts his hat on his face and says, "But do try to wake me up if someone needs 40 pounds of ice put in their face at high velocity."
Theadric Greyhood |
"I can take last watch!" Hood offers. "I can't sleep after it starts getting even a little bit light, anyway!"
The halfling seems overly fascinated with the fire, taking flaming sticks out and waving them around, throwing different substances into the fire, and on one occasion, toying with the idea of throwing a flask of oil in. After seeing disapproving looks from more than one group member, he stows the oil in his backpack.
"Perhaps some other time..."
George Chadwick Parker |
Speaking from under his hat, Parker addresses Karuut, "Hey, I need my beauty sleep, pal." Noticing what the halfling is doing, he says in his melodic voice, "Hey, Theadric, if ya wanna play with the fire, grab some of the jerky from the trail rations and warm 'em up a bit. But don't chuck 'em in there, aight?"
As Parker is one of the two people without dark- or low-light vision, he thinks it makes sense to not have a shift. Also, a spellcaster, needing 8 hours of rest. If you want to, you can call him on his bull, the player is fine with that.

Next morning you find and unfortunate bandit camp.
The trees begin to thin, revealing a field of short, green grass that leads to the shores of a wide, calm lake reflecting the overcast sky above. A dense fog hands over the center of the lake, obsucring the far side. Near the shore of the lake, a dark form (dead body) lies next to the water.
