You spend a few minutes looking and find no levers or hidden areas in the passage. No magic in the other chamber.
Anaba Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Buchart Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Cela Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Fernleaf Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Rolande Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Sekkim Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Taking time to look around however you do notice on the faded mural depicting the hero Kassen defeating the mercenaries at the entrance to this crypt, with his blade piercing the chest of the mercenary leader. These figures stand alone in the center of a scene of carnage, with dead villagers and mercenaries all around them.
During your search you notice that both Kassen and the mercenary leader are wearing golden necklaces, each made up of a simple golden chain, from which hangs an oddly shaped medallion. While not identical, the amulets look similar. there is no magic here however or hidden panels or passages and touching or pressing on the medallions on the mural have no effect.

Really? I figure that it might weigh 50 lbs. I have a 17 strength and it is upright to cover a person standing, so I can run if I need to. I would go alone, but don't know if the door at the other side is locked/trapped.
Oh, to Hades with it! I'll go and check the door!Detecting magic the whole time and moving quickly.
GM Pablo |
I admire your fine backpack on a stick (BPOAS) imagery. So your BPOAS is a one person thingy, no problem (was thinking stretched between two people). It will indeed give you +4 bonus to cover (AC), but not 100% and some arrows are likely to get through. True to your Chaotic nature, are you heading in to check if the north door in this room opens??
GM Pablo |
Buchart dons his BPOAS and open the door moving to the north door. The pillar starts to spin then the door slams shut.
Arrows (non-lethal): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d8 ⇒ 6

Arrows (non-lethal)Confirm crit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 301d8 ⇒ 7
Outside you hear the door and Buchart pelted with arrows.
Buchart -15 That crit hurt!
Buchart tries the door and finds it locked and won't budge?
You hear the pillar continue to spin and spew arrows.
Buchart and anyone else, what do you want top do?
GM Pablo |
Buchart yells for the door to be opened. He quaffs a Potion of CLW
Potion CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

as he moves to the Eastern door keeping the BPOAS between him and the spinning pillar of arrow death. He finds it wont open from his side!! "OPEN THE DOOR GORUM DAMN IT!

Buchart -16 (you are staggered, but not unconscious).

I will stumble into the hallway and collapse on the floor.
Hey Sekkim, could I bother you for a snort of brandy? It looks like my invention needs some work! I think I would rather fight a score of undead than do that again.
I will differ to Fernleaf and Cela. The pillows are probably the best bet. But, as you can read below, this is only happening in my mind!
GM Pablo |
Sekkim opens the door to let Buchart in the hall. There some arrows spill into the corridor before you make it around the corner.
He gets a peek in the room as he does and realizes going into the 20' pit = very bad
Buchart Arrows Non-lethal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 211d8 ⇒ 4
Buchart Arrows Non-lethal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 191d8 ⇒ 3
Buchart falls into the hall
Buchart -20 -4 actual damage (unconscious).
Sekkim Arrows Non-lethal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 291d8 ⇒ 2
Sekkim Arrows Non-lethal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 151d8 ⇒ 1
Sekkim 3 points non-lethal damage before he dodges around the corner.
the door slams shut. You hear the pillar continue to spin and spew arrows for 1 round then slow and stop.
That other door is looking more attractive all the time unless Fernleaf cares to try pillows?
Buchart |
"Could I please get some healing?", dreams the unconscious Buchart. He has visions of hail storms and windmills. Tempests so terrible they rip your skin. Locust swarms and a deluge of bees...
dreamwavedreamwavedreamwave...
Hmm? Where did these backpacks co...oh, they're on a stick. Well, a staff really.
They're far to big to be practical. If they were much smaller, perhaps...
dreamwave...dreamwave...Those birds don't look too friendly...AAAAAAHH! There's too many of them! The feathers!!!
GM Pablo |
Fly me high and through the starry skies
Or maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today's pain
Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Cela if you would use his wand please. - it will probably take 5-6 charges 1d8+1 each
GM Pablo |
Fernleaf carefully works his way down the hall and finds a pressure plate between the third pair of statues. He works on disabling it but his hand slips and things go terribly wrong. The trap activates with all the swords coming down at once. sword left: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 sword right: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
sword damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
After the swords drop they stay down. Crawling over the last two rows of swords close to the far door is dangerous business and will require acrobatics check to avoid damage. The first two rows have their swords wrapped in leather, so no risk of damage. The trap however is deactivated unless reset.
Fernleaf -2
GM Pablo |
It goes back to all those questions that were not asked at the beginning of these modules... "Here he is the Elf, err..I mean 1/2 Orc Sekkim. Welcome.
Unless you have any other questions off you go get on with this rescue mission!" said the Mayor.
Questions such as; What should we expect there?, What are the names of all the youth and what do they look like, how big is this place? etc, etc..., it is to be expected from novice Pathfinders live (hopefully) and learn.
GM Pablo |
You spend 10 minutes dismantling the BPOAS and wrap the swords. There is no more risk, just difficult terrain 5' = 10 of movement.
Anaba Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Buchart Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Cela Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Fernleaf Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Rolande Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Sekkim Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Cela spots some unusual stonework at the end of the hall which reveals a lever to reset/disable the trap.
