Only one of the best writers I've come across lately.
His "Monster Hunters" series is awesome. "The Grimnoir Chronicles" just as much or more so. And "Dead Six" co-written with US Airforce EOD-technician Mike Kupari is a great story as well, soon to be followed by two more books in the same series.
Larry Correia
A word of warning, this links to Larry's blog, where he is very outspoken against big government, liberal idiots and gun grabbers. In short, my kind of guy and one of the reasons why he is a friend. ;-)
We're looking for two new characters for a Jade Regent game I'm in. Still very early in the adventure (only through one encounter area so far). If you're interested, see GM Will Cooper (RPG Superstar Top 16 this year) at the discussion thread:
Jade Regent Discussion Thread
Existing characters are a Varisian Cavalier (me) and an Ulfen Ranger.
Right now we've got a cavalier and a ranger. So, divine and arcane magic are pretty lacking. But a face/skills monkey would also be helpful. He's probably looking to add at least two. We have a pretty good amount of interest.
Thanks for the info about the Jade Regent game, Yekskya. Sounds like a lot of fun, though there's so much interest there I think you already have enough players to make up a new party. If you find yourself short again though, I'd be happy to throw in a character. Perhaps a ninja/sorcerer or a gnome summoner?
Thanks Werner, I'll need to look up Larry Correia, sounds interesting. Though, because of the move I'm not allowed any new books, trying to get rid of the majority of the ones I have already. It's like losing good friends. **sniff**
Just finished reading "Veteran" by Gavin Smith, very interesting sci fi. Very interesting story set in Dundee, Scotland, and I think maybe I knew the guy when I lived in Dundee.
Nick, ouch! Getting rid of books is almost on par with losing your eyesight. Have you considered e-readers or audible books. Iirc the Monster Hunters are available as audibles. And if you are reading his blog, might I suggest his short stories about Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent. Great stuff. As is the Christmas Noun series, a Christmas story satire. Those can be found under the tab: "Sample Chapters and Short Stories". Yup, I admit to being a proud member of the Monster Hunter Nation ;-)
As I have the Kindle app on my iPhone, I second the e-reader suggestion! Sorry for not posting the past few days, had something of a family emergency but everything's okay now so I'm back.
Hey Nostrus, hope everything's alright at home & work now. Get in touch! I've tried emailing a few times, but it keeps getting bounced back.
E-readers may be the way to go. We have a lot of "classics" that we keep around thinking the kids may want them when they're older, but I was thinking today that by the time they're old enough to read them, books will no longer exist. Certainly, at the library where I work e-books & audiobooks have totally taken off.
Hmm, I'll PM my email to make sure you have the right one. We'll be at the christening btw, but Gayna has work later that afternoon so I'm afraid we won't be able to stay for long.
The newest Open Design project has just been announced:
Midgard Tales
The work coming out of Open Design has been top-notch and one of the best parts of participating in the whole project is you get a chance to influence the design. At higher tiers of pledging, you also get a chance to get your own experience with game design. I've been a participant in the projects since Tales of the Old Margreve and just started getting my own design experience with Journeys to the West where I will have two monsters, one magic item, one NPC, and island, and an adventure in the final compilation.
Midgard Tales is pure adventures. Thirteen of them, set in Midgard, but undoubtedly many will be easily transferred to Golarion or the homebrew of your choice. The Kickstarter won't close until May 21, but some of the levels have limited backers, so if you're interested in writing an adventure, don't wait. I highly recommend it.

Looks very cool, would love to be able to pitch in.
The project is now already funded and headed at a feverish pitch for the next reward tier. We get PDF or printed battle mats depending on what level you join if we get a little more.
Zag, would you like me to write out a description of you calling your crocodile, or would you prefer to do so? I think meditating and calling an animal companion shouldn't take any longer than your stint on watch.

I'm fine either way. If you planned on doing the passing of the night and the watches in one DM post, feel free to do it then, or if we are playing out each of our watches, I can.
Goys, I'll try to post tomorrow if I can, but otherwise we'll have someone staying with us so may not have an opportunity to post until after the weekend.
Also, will be moving house on 10th May, hopefully will be back online pretty quickly but as things will probably be pretty crazy let's take a two week break after that. Hopefully that's not too long, want to give you guys a chance to put your escape plans together. :)
4 hours of hunting and foraging permits a Survival check to determine how successful you were at finding food for the group. It's a DC 10 check to find enough food for one person for one day, for every two points the result is over 10, you find enough food for one additional person.
I've been assuming that you are hunting and foraging as you are exploring. If you want to spend additional time foraging, I imagine that should allow you to make additional Survival checks.
Hey there, thanks for being patient, just got phone and internet up and running, realized this week how much time I must spend online.
Will check the posts tonight, but might be tomorrow before I get a chance to put up the next post.
During the move, I came across my copy of Red Hand of Doom. I was thinking of updating the encounters to Pathfinder ruleset and running it as a PbP. Does anyone know if the rules of messageboards here would be a problem for running a WOTC adventure? And would anyone be interested in playing? Starting level 5th, before I put anything up for recruitment I just want to make sure the commitment isn't going to affect my involvement in existing games, like this one.
Far as I know you can run anything CHH. I'm in a couple of the old Dungeon APs and a 3rd party module myself. I have seen people running Call of Cthulhu, Legend of Five Rings, and various Warhammer games. I'm pretty sure I've seen WOTC games too, but can't remember which ones.

Welcome back. I hope everything went smoothly.
Don't know about the rules, but Red Hand of Doom is very fun. I ran it a few years back, albeit intermittently, for one of my groups. One of my favorite adventures.
Thanks Zag, move went okay. It was pouring rain when we arrived, so everything got soaked getting it from the van into the house, took a day or two for everything to dry off.
Red Hand of Doom does look fun, I haven't played it yet but have wanted to for a long time. i think I'll put up a recruitment thread in the next week or so. Anyone interested?
Hey, popping in for a Last Call for Midgard Tales. If you procrastinated or didn't have the cash at the time, the Kickstarter is still open for about 7 more hours. At this point, the amount of content is amazing and if we can get another $479 in the remaining hours, we get even more - Christina Stiles's Freeing Nethus becomes its own 64-page standalone softcover book making room in the hardcover for two more adventures. You're already looking at nearly 200 pages of content, plus battlemats, extra art, and a standalone adventure written by Wolfgang Baur.
I'll put up a thread this week for Red Hand of Doom. It will take a bit of prep work, I've decided against slotting it into a published game world, I think it'll serve as a pretty self-contained homebrew setting. Join in if you like dragons!

I usually don't play human, but I think I might make up a human cavalier. Mounted combat is something that is difficult to explore but it should work out decently here, and human fits the bill the best, I think. If not, I could go with a halfling outrider type.
CH, since it would be starting at 5th level and our characters will already be established, would you have anything against me playing a lion of Brindol? I believe it would fit the human cavalier with the order of the sword feature quite well.
Sorry for my late reply. Real life's been very busy. Played Red Hand of Doom and had a blast. Wouldn't mind running through it again. Only this time I'd not be playing a Female Spellthief, seducing Captain Soranna ;-)
I don't know anything about Red Hand of Doom but everyone else seems really excited by it. I'd be willing to join you guys, but I also wouldn't care if you wanted to let some players who can't get their PbP on join up.
Those character concepts sound good. I'll post up a game thread for RHoD soon. I was doing some prep work for character creation, was thinking to put together some traits to go with the setting but now I'm not convinced about getting the balance right, so I'll just say characters can select two traits from the Advanced Players Guide. As the characters start at 5th, I was going to pitch the group as everyone knows each other and that you are part of an established adventuring band, and let players decide whether their characters are natives of Elsir Vale returning home or if they are traveling in the area for the first time.
Zag, a Lion of Brindol background sounds fine, it means that you'll already know most of the major NPCs of Brindol fairly well. Though, as a Lion of Brindol it may mean you have some extra responsibilities in the course of the adventure.
I've set up a separate thread for the Red Hand game with a link here , if you're interested great that would already make a full group, if not I'll open the recruitment up to take on a few more players.
I'm game. I'd like to play a psion as they have been a favorite of mine through the years, but unfortunately I don't own the new books on that class. I'll have a look through my books tonight and let you know what I've come up with.
If any or all of you are interested, you're in. Just saw the number of players interested, was totally surprised. It seems to me when I played PbP in the past on PlayByWeb taht you could toggle the recruitment one or off. I'll have a look through the responses for your characters, and then make up any shortfall from the other applicants. It's encouraging to see everyone's so keen.
