Hey , welcome to the recruitment for Council of Thieves!
I will be your host these next couple months.
I am quiet new to pathfinder and even newer to GMing. I wanted to try GMing online before I host my actual table-top campaign.

Okay guys. Start posting your Characters and back stories. I love me some good back stories.

Please roll for abilities 4d6 drop one using the forum roller.
Please include a short back story in your alias or your post.

I will accept anything provided in the PRD

Let's get this rolling! =]

Hey there. Be sure to list things like

Roll stats or point buy
Allowed races
Allowed classes
Traits?

There are a number of GMs around here that can help. Good luck.

Color me interested once there is a solid plan. I have played some of Council of Thieves but the game ended, hope that wont be a problem.

I think that with rolls like that, I'm either looking at an Alchemist or a Wizard. In fact, I'll gun for a Wizard with the Scroll Scholar archetype, a bookish man who has spent so long in libraries, he is scarcely able to remember his social skills.

Yes, an Elf Wizard (Scroll Scholar) who has resided in Westcrown for decades. I'll swap out the weapon familiarity and low-light vision racial traits for Arcane Focus and Darkvision racial traits, symbolising his life-long pursuit of the arcane arts, and a sliver of drow heritage that has resulted in his being ostracized by his clan and resulting in his move to Westcrown.

@ GM Cymbeline; just to give you a heads up, if you're intending to run Council of Thieves as a PbP, you should probably be expecting to host the game for next two years (at least!) rather than the next two months (unless you have insanely active players).

Still, best of luck with it, being a DM on these boards is a fun and rewarding experience!

This was walter 12,15,14,17,14,12 building a gunslinger. Maybe human maybe not what firearms do I have access to.

Dark Archive

Ignatio stood, head bent, face hidden in the deep recesses of his cowl as he surveyed the man before him. "One more move and I slice that filthy throat of yours pig!" He had stumbled across the man attempting to rob a woman, as he was making a pass through one of the seedier parts of the city.

"Oh yeah? You and what army boy?" The thug laughed, straightening and turning to glare menacingly at Ignatio.

"Don't need an army to kick your ass friend, only need my own self!" Jet black ruins flowed along the length of his blade like blood, spreading from his hand, along the silvery length of steel, wreathing it in a dark magical halo. [b]"Now lets get down to business!"

I would like to see some of the campaign traits from the Player's Guide.

Feel free to read up on Westcrown (I encourage it if your character is from Westcrown.) This campaign is going to be mainly based in Westcrown.

Roll for HP and wealth on the forum roller as well.

I'm going to leave recruitment open for at least a week or more so that I can prepare more thoroughly. Also to make sure my walking Pathfinder Encyclopedia is close by HAHA. As I said before, I am new to GMing, so bear with me.

@ Transylvanian Tadpole: I do know that it's going to take a long while, but saying a couple months sounded less frightening to me than years. :)

Hmm have always wanted to play Council of Thieves. Let's see what the dice suggest.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 2) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 3) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 5) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 4) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 1) = 8 7
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 5) = 17 16

Hmm 18 pt buy. Unspectacular but should be doable.

Roll for Hp? Not full at first level? Ooooh.... Dangerous! Luck... 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Heh... Looks like the Lady is with me.

Time to roll those dice!

4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 3) = 11

4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 3) = 9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 2) = 11

Not a single decent overall roll of stats since I started on Paizo! The dice are frightened of my power, I believe! :(

I guess skill has to be balanced out by luck! When I GM, the dice seem intent on TPK'ing the party too! How odd.

Hp 1d8 ⇒ 6
Gold 5d20 ⇒ (12, 6, 10, 17, 17) = 62

Yep rolling HP at 1 st means a carful group, bet you get a lot of range weapons in the party.

Sorry to ask as well but GM can I ask, how you playing GUNs in game, every where, rare etc.

Also, I would like to take the campaign trait child-of-infamy would that be ok.
Going to make an Race Aasimar Aristocrat summoner [amateur gun slinger depending on how guns are in game] from a lesser noble house but need a means for her to be outside.

Nevermind.

Rolling fighter Hp
1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
archer fighter it is.

4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 4) = 19-4=15

4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 4) = 15-1=14

4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 2) = 13-2=11

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 3) = 14-2=12

4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 4) = 12-2=10

4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 5) = 15-1=14

That's a really good set of scores. Think I'll make an elf Magus.

edit:

Hit Points: 1d8 ⇒ 1

Wealth: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5, 5) = 12

Normally characters start with max Hp at 1st level. Not complaining, just wanted you to be aware of this, GM Cymbeline. Your face to face players may complain. Or not. :)

Ha ha. Just hit preview. One hitpoint for 1st level is not a survivable character. It's too bad, because my other scores were so good.

Sovereign Court

4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6) = 18 =16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 4) = 13 =12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 3) = 10 =9

4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 1) = 10 =9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 3) = 10 =9
Holy ouch, who smited my stats? That's like an 11-point line.

Would you mind terribly if I used the elite array, instead?
(15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8); a 15-point line.

What is an elite array?

But for now here is some back ground stuff and a sample of my writing style + Description

Lady Naliea Inceene Lorenzz

Background:

Naliea was Born into the lesser Noble House Lorenzz, wealth and power, even with the decline of the city, A noble house was still Noble. She was born to be sold, or as her father says, "to be marred well". This was the aim of all lesser noble family's, find a good catch for their unwanted daughters. Coming of age how ever not plain sailing, competition was fierce, more than one young lady found herself at the wrong end of a assassins dagger, lifeless becomes of some rivals planes to web her betrothed. Westcrown is a harsh city and one has to learn the game. A young lady or man of noble blood had to have the skills and wit to look after ones-self, for this they has been trained, leaning not just the arts of curt but also the war the arts of staying alive. This was why she had taken up the way of the gun, she did not have the physical strength for the sword or bow. So the house weapon master had trained her with the revolver and pistol, killing tools that needed a steady hand and good aim. She found she was good at it, besting her brother in the art of guns. The skill had saved her life more than once. They way of the gun was a form of dance and she treated it as such. Such skills where needed as her farther told her once "For being a possible competitor in the bride market to other houses places you at risk from out and out assassination always be on your guard child".

But to her it was all just a distraction, her true love was Dance, from an early age it was her freedom. To a free dancer, someone of art, who could move on stage like the dances she had seen as a child and hold a crowed spellbound. But she was nobility and do what she was told. But what become her down fall She had done for herself; the family had been in a feud with another family for two years, an upstart family of new rich the Lullrans. They were traders who had made their money the hard way, ships and goods a hard thing to do in Westcrown. It had stated when they had cut into the familiars deals, money was lost. So two years of Assassination attempts, burning, attacks in the street, theft followed. To many deaths so She had taken the lead to end it, she was smart and good lucking she could sort it all out, she did by founding a subtle Lullran Son, they meet and talked, they agreed marriage, the hard work was convincing the family. In the end they did, they could see a benefit of aligning the houses new and old, all normal and fine.

Marriage would end the feud and the killing would stop. it was all fine until the wedding day, the marriage was simple the party after not, it was to be a big affair. She and her husband had not wanted it that way but the families insisted. The Older Lullran said it’s their sons and it would be at their right to hold it in their family house. Her Father agreed and seemed happy someone other than he was paying for it all. It was all very grand, it was her wedding day and she loved it, even if she did not love her husband, that she knew would come in time. At the end the they bid the guests from other houses goodbye as they headed down to the docks to the yacht they were to spend their honeymoon on. Her husband had carried her on board as his mother and father waited to greet them and hand over command to the captain. As he put her down a call came up from the docs. It was Norrade her brother, he was holding her jewellery box. Calling out she had forgot it when she got changed at the reception. He had rushed down with it to catch her before they left. He was always thinking of her, she apologized and rand back down the gangplank to get it. Running up to him she was just about to think him when the blast lifted her off her feet and slammed her into him. Burning wood and fire rained down on them, she was dazed then came round, he was out cold she shock him but nothing, they were on fire but she like him did not feel hurt from simple flames. She stood and looked back, where the yacht had been there was a burning hulk sinking. it was all shock after that.

They Court someone, a enemy they said, in gang that had wanted to cut in on both families. The plan to kill the heads of both families’s and course unrest, but Father was not there, called away and if not for dumb luck she two would have been killed. It had all come out in court; the press had had a field day. It was during this time she got the name the "Sad Bride" a poor victim of yet one more evil act. It was also at the time her so called friends started to slip away. No one wanted to be around the "Sad Bride".

The Family new she would fine no other husband now, and more to they point her being around mean gossip and chat, she had sunk into a deep depression and it was then that Naliea's her brother had come to her. A safe house and a new life. One away from the madness of the family, one doing what she loved, Dancing!. She had jumped at it, sex mouths of bliss, she became the masked dancer, asked to party's and events to dance. Some knew she was a noble but never asked why she danced for a living, she was happy. Then he had come to her. "We need your help, the family needs to know something" She was to dance at a party another house and she was to see and hear what was said and done. It was the price for her freedom and a roof over her head.

This is her life now, but she finds it hard, the things she has seen, the crimes the evil. All walking around in by day upright and respectable but at night, behind shadow warded doors, greed, corruption, lust, and darker evils.

Some one needs to do more than look on. Some one needs to change things, the fire needs to come a clean it all away.

Contacts:

The house Lorenzz, most of all her elder Brother Norrade, She is keeping away from her Father at the moment, her mother passed way some years ago so its them really, there are uncles and Aunts, but right now shes is mostly keeping out the Family's way as she is seen by some as a bit of and outcast. But of she was in real trouble she may approach them . She will do what ever the family asks that dos not in the long term damage it's reputation.

Personality:

Intelligent, Charming, Suspicious.;

In manner:
Lady Naliea Inceene Lorenzz is mostly a charming noble woman. She is well spoken and well schooled, with manners and habits to match. It often dos not take long for others to spot her obvious intelligence and noble education. She has a dry wit and can be talkative when the mood takes her. She loves art in all its forms, often siting with street performers and artisans for Hours talking over the finer points of their crafts. She has a melancholic streak at times a sad, at others even coming over as detached, cold. This is because of the events of the resent past, and her brush with infamy as the "Sad Bride". This has made her suspicious of others intentions until, she knows and trusts them, She often peeks with her 3ed Eye - [Not often seen kept under a hat or mask] at others seeking to see if they are true. This has also given rise to a fiercely strong need for independence. She now holds a dislike for being "looked after" by men. But she tends to keep that to herself knowing that using her charm, intuition and intelligence by be the best way her by in so called mans world. She has a passion for guns and dance, of late has been making a living from it, seeking to learn all she can. She just wants to be useful, now outside her family she is at a loss what to do.

Lady Naliea Inceene Lorenzz *under her Magic Sleeves.

PC Scene:

After the Party

"I, I fishy pie" ... "Fresh cut flowers, get your lady's fresh cut flowers, finest in Bays market"..."Hot noroc cakes, get em wile there hot" ... "Five silvers, five silvers and I'll tell if he's the one, it's in the cards"

The early morning sounds of the Market pressed in as the Cab stopped.

"We'er her Mama"
Said the Cab Driver above her her, She waited for the Doorman to come open the cab door so she could step out into the entrance. The block of tenements she now lived in where by now means high class but they did have a staff and a level of security. Not as nice as the 'Family house' but here she was safe and free. The doorman she felt was a gods send and it had been some time since lurkers had come around to see the "sad bride" she was also happy for that as well. Stepping down from the cab she spotted a beggar sitting the side wall, she walked over a dropped a silver in his can.

"another lost soul in a city of lost souls"
She thought to herself as the Cab clattered off down the chilly stone street.
The Doorman was now holding open her buildings large Iron door. She looked at it, big strong and warded. Something you expected in a city where nightmares came out at night to pay.

"thank you Jarrak"

She said walking into the building, then up five flight to steps to the top floor. She went to take out her key but something... ? humm She stopped, looking for the wood chip she had put between the door and frame, (an old trick the house spy master had shown her) it was now on the floor.
"Someones opened the door.. Now are they still in side?"

She slipped off her magic arm sleeves and put them away, gone now was the fine fabrics of a courtesan dancer. In its place her discreet armor and weapons. She dropped her Cloak on to the floor letting her 3ed eye see fully. Then pulled out her revolver and used her key she opened her door with as little sound as she could. What entered her hallway fist was not her but the muzzle of her revolver, followed by her face, eyes seeking into the dark.

"Nothing odd or out of place.. humm not a robber, someone here to kill then"

She slipped in and walking slowly down the Hall, taking time to look in each room. As she got to the master room a voice called out.

"You better close the door behind you sister, your letting all the heat out and this fire was a devils ball to get started"

"Norrade your lucky your the only one who talks to me like that"

She smiled and put her gun away then went back for her Cloak, closing the door she called back.

"I thought you said you were coming in the afternoon brother mine"

"Could not hold off In-cee, father wants to know soon as a scubass- comes who was there, we may have to act fast"

That fixed it, only one person ever called her In-cee and it was him, also he had given the safe words. She walked into the front room and flopped down on the lounger. Her brother, tall strong hansom horned. was stocking a just lit fire. He was a plane touched like her but where she had the taint if angles he had the taint of Devils. This did not make him bad, just a pain in the royal backside at time. Of course this mixed blood in one family thing should have kept them at odds. How ever the fact they both had a love of heat and fire linked them in a deep way. Kept them close It was in both their bloods. Mother had tried to explain it once; by saying "The fire will always be part of the Rosala blood line, it mattered not the type". But their mother had been dead over 10 years just like her...She stopped thinking about that, then lucky her brother was talking once more to take her mind off it.

"You know you should really get a help, this can all be done for you"

He know darn well she would not!, she did not want to be asked about the events of last summer, staff just could not help themselves. Even if they did not say the ‘Sad bride’ she could tell that's what they where thinking. "Such a sad girl" "poor thing" they just could not help but keep looking at her all the time. She hated it.

"You know why I don't. And the pots over there, tea would be nice, Norr"

He want over to it and come back, placing the pot off its hook above the fire, then sat down opposite her.

"Got you some of that nice Smocked cheese, and some fresh nut bread, I know you like the stuff from the bakers by the house"

"Thanks"
she said, he was looking at her, looking at her 3ed eye with his.

"Come on ask, I'm not going to tell you"
she waited looking back at his 3ed eye, the family blood traits 3ed eyes and fire.

He's blinked 1st.
"Sooo, father wants to know, did you get the information?

and don't forget old Ziimon the house spy master humm. she thought.
"Father or dear sweet Zim?

He gave her an exasperated look.
"Don't be like that sis, you know how hard it is to keep the house going, dangers lark everywhere. We'er not a big player In the game, the thrice dammed house rules now, off to the new capital, the old houses are drying, You know that we have to do to protect ourselves, keep what we have."

"o I know, I know but still, it hurts, it still hurts" she thought.
"Like you protected yourselves form me?"

Now he looked pained, wounded even at that comment and she knew she was opening old wounds. But she know just why she was locked away out of sight, penned up in one of the Family's safe houses and well away from the limelight.

"Not the same at all In-cee, what was done to you was horrible and you were not in any way to blame. But the events of last summer had a impact on the image of the family. Let alone the damage done to your own reputation, we'er just trying to help you, give you, your life back. Come on In-cee I can tell you like your life now, your free to dance, a ? Your great love.."

He smiled at her hopefully hopping she could see he meant every word.

But she was still thinking of hurt "Reputation, I have no reputation other than a sad story now. who of nobility would marry or even be seen with the 'Sad Bride' if she was not the 'masked dancer' invited to perform at their party's.,

Her hurt lessened, but he was right she did love this new life, she got to dance yes but for free? No it was Free as long as she paid the price,. Do what is needed to protect the family at all times, even now she was outside it. It had been Zimons idea, once he'd found out she was getting invited to other houses party's as the "Masked Dancer". Such a reasonable request of his, "when you go to a party, just to see, hear and tell, that's all you need do". Of course she did as asked, they all did, it was why her brother was here, they all did as the family asked.

He was still looking at her.
"So In-cee come on little blue fire, who was at the party and what did they talk about?"

She spent the next 2 hours telling him. This was her life now, it had a good and bad side, but deep down she wished she could do more. Change things for the better with art and what ever she could. And she was gaining skills leaning on the job. She had not yet killed but come close more than once, with this new life it was just a matter of time.

What is an elite array?

The elite array is the stats that npcs have. Way back when my group played with 4d6 drop, but you could always decide to use the array if you wanted. If your total modifiers were less than 0, you got to roll again.

The Exchange

Thank you for the answer.

Enaris, that sucks. You can either re roll or use the elite array. I may go with a point buy.
.
I will be making a few amendments in an hour or so. I'm currently in a freezer at work.
Again, bear with me.

I'll roll some stats, thinking about either a human ranger or half-elf gunslinger, also depending on how many people decide to commit to this. Although I will point out a bonus that if you need the help, I've GM'd for quite a long time now and haven't actually been a player since... Well... 2008? I think? Either way, way too long lol. Up to you though obviously, it is your campaign.

Stat roll: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 1) = 13

Stat roll: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 6) = 17

Stat roll: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 4) = 18

Stat roll: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 1) = 11

Stat roll: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 2) = 12

Stat roll: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 5) = 15

12/15/14/10/10/13 would be the stats I have to assign.

Amendment(s),

Please start with max HP. I do see how ridiculous rolling HP first level is.

I'm also contemplating a point buy. I'll determine the amount sometime tomorrow. Why? Well simply because I suck at rolling stats...So I'll decide the fair amount of the points buy for everyone.

I'm sorry about all the dysfunction so far.

So far I've only been able to read a few of the back stories. This is going to get very interesting.

@GM Yet More Gravitas/Lady Naliea Inceene Lorenzz - I'm not sure how I feel about guns yet. I'll keep it in mind for ya. The trait is fine to take.

I'll be posting here and there throughout the week. Sometimes it'll be hard for me to post frequently due to my crazy work schedule this week, but I will be posting at LEAST once a day. If you need me directly on anything, please use the private messenger.

Just a heads-up that I'm currently building a tiefling TWF urban ranger.

In case we are still going with rolls...

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 3) = 20 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 2) = 15 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 2) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 4) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 2) = 12 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 1) = 12 = 11

With an array like that, I might go with a human monk of the martial artist archetype.

Taking a leaf from the player's guide, he'll probably be an exile from his monastery that now offers his services as a self-defense instructor. Like one of those small-time karate gyms, to draw a comparison. Having originally been a Westcrown local, I think the Westcrown Firebrand would be a good trait for him - he wants to help people fend for themselves, even if they don't have weapons.

I'll work on the crunch and more on the fluff soon.

@GM Thanks for the feed back, and it looks like you have 3 GMs who are seeking to play, feel free to PM me if you want feed back, more than happy to help.

HP -> I think your doing the right thing going Max HP come players would have been one hit kills and thats never good I find, we they have a better chance and it pays to be a fighter etc.

Points -> I know I will lose out with Points as my rolls where good, but its makes for a fair game with points.

As A DM I do this, it may help

Make a PC, Pathfinder only, No 3PP (sorry)
www.d20pfsrd.com
Stats
21 Point Buy

Traits
2 Traits [One must be COT campaign trait]
1 Drawback for a 3ed trait. [must be linked to back story]

GUNS->
Me I would go guns every where, kind of works well with COT, but having something that go's BOOM!! every time you use it makes being a Sneaky so in a city very very hard. In that way the city guard and permitted [with a permit] citizens have them, but Criminals tend to go with Silent weapons.

Other help :)

To help you with Building the game, you can ask Players to supply stuff that will link then into the setting and each other,

Like NPCs and city back ground stuff, This always helps.

You can go Like this.

List 3 NPCs
1 Rival: Name + Why they are your Rival
1 Contact: Name + where are they what do they do, how do you know them.
1 Friend: Name + Why are they your Friend?

Place, where your living.
Where you live in the city, Description.

Then the Format of the PC sheet.
I think most GMs have a hard time with Pcs sheets, so you can ask players to standardize them a Little.

Backstory at bottom etc.

Here a nice link to a good PC sheet format LINK HERE

May help

:)

I'd pretty much agree with all of what Lady just said (too long for me to want to quote lol). The only differences I go with though is a 25 point buy. Some may say that's too high, but the same time you can always throw bigger baddies into the mix. I've even had times where 25 point parties had a hell of a time and were almost killed right off the bat because of bad rolls. Hell, you can look at my RotR game I just got going and you can see that there's only 2 out of 6 people actually doing damage right now. And as far as what you allow for characters, if 3pp is absolutely needed for a character, talk with the player otherwise keep them in the "if needed" section. Otherwise state with what you're comfortable with. If I have to search half a day and stall gameplay for something that was "totally easy to find", then I don't allow it. If you're just comfortable with Corebook only, then stick with that. You'll lose interest from a lot of people, but you'll still have those willing to still play. I go with anything in the PRD because it's actual Paizo word from the books (despite how everyone states that d20 is the site of the gods, it's still public, can be changed, and I get lost quick in trying to find specific tiny things that I don't even have a single clue about. And most the time it's things that are 3pp listed through there). That's just my input.

Grand Lodge

Hello Trey And silver prince :)

Greetings! I finally discovered this whole PbP malarky and I'm itching to find a campaign or two to keep me sated. With that said, lets roll some dice. ^_^

4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 1) = 12 - 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 2) = 11 - 9
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 5) = 13 - 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 1) = 9 - 8
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 3) = 17 - 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 2) = 11 - 9

.. Christ I have the worst luck with stat rolls. I might as well be a peasant. >_>;

@Lady Naliea Inceene Lorenzz thank you for the sheet I have either been linking to myth-weavers of doing the crunch by hand.
