Cosmic Nightmare |
Hello everyone! I've been on pbp sabbatical for nearly a year while I worked on my personal RL mental health. But I'm back, feeling much better, and ready to play again if you guys will have me!
So the atmosphere of the Strange Aeons AP is “Lovecraftian Horror”. If you’ve never read any Lovecraft you should at LEAST read Call of Cthulhu, found free here. You won’t be disappointed. Unless you ARE disappointed. In which case you probably don’t care about Strange Aeons! We will commit to Book 1, then see if we are still having fun. In order to create the atmosphere, here are the guidelines…
We’ll take up to 7 players as 2 always drop out after the first month. Never have figured out why. I mean, it can't be me that's the problem, right? haha!

Dotting.
First thought is a Medium, with a base personality not unlike the dolls in Dollhouse.
What's your thought on the availability of spirits? Can they only be found at appropriate locations, or can you pretty much get any type of spirit you want anywhere?
Volreg Sundek |
Personality Blurb: Volreg, dear dear Volreg. Why, he's gotten himself in trouble again. Maybe mother should have him stay with grandmother a bit longer? Grabbing his head, a man whimpers slightly, occasionally hitting himself, "Go away, go away. I don't know...." A noise brings him out of his fit, and his eyes widen before he scurries towards the bed in his room. Noises were bad, especially unfamiliar ones. Friends would help though..... They would keep away the nightmares, right?
Abandonment issues, alongside with the nightmares may be fun!

Changed my mind, went with a Foresight Wizard. No background, as request. Manfred von Stahl, ready to go.

appealing.

Oh sir it hurts! Silence Trevor! I need to record this.
Trevor shudders in his bed, almost spilling out of it unles she curls up in a ball. So chilly.

I have a human sorcerer (aberrant) made that was not picked for another Strange Aeon AP. Here is Ichabod, a strange young man with even stranger abilities.
CrusaderWolf |
I have a concept for a skinwalker Inquisitor of Chucaro (Empyreal Lord of madness, dreams, and visions). It would work just fine with a human, but may I ask why the racial limitation? Ustalav can pretty hard on non-humans but is there another?
Cosmic Nightmare |
@CrusaderWolf: Well, in Lovecraft, if you run across anything magic, arcane, monsterous, or alternative races, it's a big sanity-shattering thing. But if the party is full of merfolk/goblins/catfolk, then it seems like it would be harder to create that atmosphere? But if the group really wants alt races, then I am but a humble Cosmic Horror and shall do whatever the group likes after recruitment, sound good?
@Wilken: Let's make the deadline Monday 12/12, high noon Eastern(that's 9am Pacific)
andygal |
Personally I feel like "just the core races" would be reasonable, but "humans only" is kinda boring.
But if the GM and group want to go with "humans only" then that's their call and I am willing to go along with it, even if it's not 100 percent my style (I like groups with some unusual races in them)

I have a character made up. No alias yet, as I'd rather not have unused aliases cluttering my account. will make it post haste if I get accepted.

Sephira is cautious. There is a process for everything, and by following that process, we achieve the best results. Though this wars with her innate curiosity in learning about strange objects, she approaches them with a “measure twice, cut once” mentality. This way, she can avoid catastrophic issues that may cause problems down the road.
Sephira has pale skin and dark hair and eyes, like the majority of the citizens of Ustalav. She’s of average height and weight, with a semi-athletic build. She dresses in plain clothes, suitable for moving around in.

I just got into a different game, so I'm withdrawing from this one.
Highly recommend someone pick up medium, if you can. Low point buy, occult focused game is exactly the niche for that class to shine.

Tyrithe is one of the Forlorn--but even by the standards of that motley group he is an odd one. He believes that he has been blessed by Chucaro with a benign madness, for he perceives symphonies of light and sound that no others can. Far from obscuring his sense of the world around him, they enhance it--a secret door outlined here, a fallen object glowing with cerulean light there, a haunting refrain warning of danger ahead.
Tyrithe places less faith in plans and contingencies than most, believing that the Maiden of Whimsy's blessings guide to the where & when he is needed. While a peaceful soul who would rather dance or paint than fight, Tyrithe is resolute in serving his mistress's will, and has received some training from the small cult of Chucaro in hunting down nightmare creatures that crawl forth from the dark places of the multiverse or the nightmares of long-forgotten gods. Tyrithe sees the destruction of such creatures as his calling, and privately considers Chucaro's blessing a form of inoculation against their maddening forms. He is affable and generous but easily distracted by his visions, on occasion humming or dancing to a tune only he hears. His behavior can at times be erratic, which has grated on more down-to-earth acquaintances in the past.
Ungebrochen |
I would like to throw my hat into the ring with Ungebrochen Dwarf Spiritualist with his ancestor at his side! Still some things to do!
What does not kill you, makes you stronger. But the pain and the suffering is still there. Ungebrochen does remember the past of his ancestors, it is whispering in his ears day and night. But this makes him just stronger, keeps his eyes sharp. He can see things others... do not.
Never will. And they can´t understand him. But that is fine. He is there. To protect them if necessary. He can see.
He is not rash, but methodic. If he makes up his mind, he will not hesitate to say what he thinks. He like to enjoy the life, but in modesty. And he has seen the worst one can see.
He is a matchmaker. No, not matches. He seeks the perfect partner for his customers!
Dervak |
In the basement of the asylum, Dervak roars and rattles his chains.
He thought he was close to escaping once, but that must have been a dream. That reality ended far too soon.
But what of it? He deserves to be imprisoned. He is a monster, cursed by his befouled bloodline and by his own weakness in giving in to the Dark Whisper within. He should remain bound in chains forever.
Unless... Unless he could be of some use defending something noble and pure. Though he himself would never be those things, if Gorum willed it he could die in battle protecting such virtues from the corruption of the beyond.
Lots more in the profile... Aberrant bloodrager with both the Aberrant aspect and the half-orc aspect from a bit of Lovecraftian back story (that he may not know).
As a player, one of my goals for this AP is to respect the horror elements, and have the character be actually disturbed by things that are supposed to be horrific.
TheWaskally |
Ichabod's profile is now statblocked in Class/Level slot.
Plus, I'm excited another character with the aberrant bloodline has been submitted! Dervak looks very cool!

Armor Expert When you wear armor of any sort, reduce that suit's armor check penalty by 1, to a minimum check penalty of 0.
Latent Psion You gain a +2 trait bonus on saves against mind-affecting effects.
Sensitive Mind You gain a +1 trait bonus on Appraise, Perception, and Sense Motive checks; Appraise is a class skill for you. In addition, once per week you can use the psychometry occult skill unlock even if you are not capable of casting psychic spells or have the Psychic Sensitivity feat.
Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
No Racial Subtype You have chosen no racial subtype.
Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.
Studied Target (Ex) A slayer can study an opponent to gain a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, and Sense Motive; a +1 bonus on Perception, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent; and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against 1 opponents at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target. If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll). At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the bonuses on weapon attack rolls, damage rolls, and skill checks and to slayer DCs against a studied target increase by 1.. In addition, at each such interval, the slayer is able to maintain these bonuses against an additional studied target at the same time. The slayer may discard this connection to a studied target as a free action, allowing him to study another target in its place. A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action.
Track (Ex) You gain +1 to Survival checks made to follow tracks.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency A slayer is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, as well as with light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).
Weapon and Armor Proficiency A stygian slayer is proficient with light armor, but not with medium armor, heavy armor, or any kind of shield (including tower shields). This replaces the slayer's armor proficiency.
When she is really curious about someone, keeping her new friend alive becomes a very important priority, and she will do her best to protect and help them; plus, she learned by experience that this often gives her a chance to encounter and disassemble many other strange, intriguing things!

Here is my Alchemist, Volco Sissorba. I may have borked a bit the crunch, will double-check later.
He's a bit of a mad scientist, LN crossing to LE. He could perform atrocities, but it would be For Science.
He believes in science and reason over all, acting with rigorous, logical analysis in every situation, no matter how ruthless it may seem. If it could lead to a discovery, to knowledge, to the improvement of himself and mankind, he has no qualms.
Human experimentation? If it kills ten people to save a thousand, why not? It's all for the greater good, after all.
SodiumTelluride |
Still working on crunch, but I'd like to submit Kili, a human spiritualist with a roleplaying twist: the spiritualist himself is little more than a Dollhouse 'doll'. My character is the phantom.
Kili, the phantom, has full control of Jex's body when the two are sharing consciousness, but when she's manifested, Jex is basically an automaton.
