Hello everyone! I've been on pbp sabbatical for nearly a year while I worked on my personal RL mental health. But I'm back, feeling much better, and ready to play again if you guys will have me!

So the atmosphere of the Strange Aeons AP is “Lovecraftian Horror”. If you’ve never read any Lovecraft you should at LEAST read Call of Cthulhu, found free here. You won’t be disappointed. Unless you ARE disappointed. In which case you probably don’t care about Strange Aeons! We will commit to Book 1, then see if we are still having fun. In order to create the atmosphere, here are the guidelines…

Creation:

  • Level 1; 15pt buy. No stats below 10.
  • Races: You should be a Human from Ustalov. I might allow a single PC to be an alt race. I’d like a mixed gender party just in case humorous PC-PC or PC-NPC romances want to develop, that’s always fun:)
  • Classes: should fit the atmosphere. So it’s your chance to play an Occult Adventures PC instead of another Barbarian. No Ninja’s, Samurai, Monks or Summoners please.
  • Starting Gold = 175
  • Traits: 2, +1 campaign from the Players Guide
  • Posting: I will post 1/day on weekdays, and you can do the same or more. I won’t bot PCs, it’s too much work. You’ll just stand there soul-lessly until you get back, haha!
  • Statblock will live on your character profile, and Vitals in the Class/Level input box. I don’t really want to bounce to Mythweavers to get a Ref save number, I gotta keep GM workload within reason, and every click counts!
  • Personality: Strange Aeons characters begin as amnesiac asylum patients, so you do not need a backstory. Instead, give us a Personality blurb. I only ask that you not create a “grim” character, ‘cause they never post anything:( I do not like characters that just say “Herbert grunts and says nothing” and “no i’m here, it’s just that my character doesn’t say much in these kinds of situations”. Boring!
  • Alignment: It’s unusual to say so, but I think any alignment will work, even E, in this AP. I can see a LE occult-artifact collector or even a CE schizo patient, as long as you are creative enough to go along with G party goals.

  • We’ll take up to 7 players as 2 always drop out after the first month. Never have figured out why. I mean, it can't be me that's the problem, right? haha!

I'm trying to read the post but the arcane sigils left by the eldritch horror OP cost me some sanity points.

    In other words, submission incoming.

    Dotting.

First thought is a Medium, with a base personality not unlike the dolls in Dollhouse.

What's your thought on the availability of spirits? Can they only be found at appropriate locations, or can you pretty much get any type of spirit you want anywhere?

    Grand Lodge

    Dot!

Will have a profile set up in a few hours.

What would starting health be? Max+CON or roll?

    Rolling with an Aether Kineticist.

    dotting.

Definitely thinking about those occult classes.

    I'm putting together a Psychic.

Will try to get a Mutation Warrior in, plenty of body warping weirdness.

Personality Blurb: Volreg, dear dear Volreg. Why, he's gotten himself in trouble again. Maybe mother should have him stay with grandmother a bit longer? Grabbing his head, a man whimpers slightly, occasionally hitting himself, "Go away, go away. I don't know...." A noise brings him out of his fit, and his eyes widen before he scurries towards the bed in his room. Noises were bad, especially unfamiliar ones. Friends would help though..... They would keep away the nightmares, right?

Abandonment issues, alongside with the nightmares may be fun!

Changed my mind, went with a Foresight Wizard. No background, as request. Manfred von Stahl, ready to go.

Doting for interest. Will get a submission up here in a day or two. Very interested!will most likely be making a rogue or sorcerer type.

    appealing.

Trevor shudders in his bed, almost spilling out of it unles she curls up in a ball. So chilly.

I have a human sorcerer (aberrant) made that was not picked for another Strange Aeon AP. Here is Ichabod, a strange young man with even stranger abilities.

Awww, I love the summoner I've made for this that was in a game that died. Guess she won't get a chance to play in this one either. Are you sure you don't want to check her out? The info is in the alias, though I would obviously have to adjust the stats.

Haha! Yes, when I created Cosmic Nightmare all the other alias's on my alias tab gasped in unknown terror at the eldritch maisma that just should not be!

    Dark Archive

@Ratlus, no Background Skills just yet. We can add them later if the group wishes it.

    Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I have a concept for a skinwalker Inquisitor of Chucaro (Empyreal Lord of madness, dreams, and visions). It would work just fine with a human, but may I ask why the racial limitation? Ustalav can pretty hard on non-humans but is there another?

    Dot!
    Do we have a deadline?

I would like background skills also. I really love them.

(PS: I changed my mind and went for an occult mystery Oracle rather than a full on occult class. Coming soon as soon as I finish the fluff. Besides, it appears the thread is short on divine casters)

    Dark Archive

@CrusaderWolf: Well, in Lovecraft, if you run across anything magic, arcane, monsterous, or alternative races, it's a big sanity-shattering thing. But if the party is full of merfolk/goblins/catfolk, then it seems like it would be harder to create that atmosphere? But if the group really wants alt races, then I am but a humble Cosmic Horror and shall do whatever the group likes after recruitment, sound good?

    @Wilken: Let's make the deadline Monday 12/12, high noon Eastern(that's 9am Pacific)

    Grand Lodge

I think sticking with Humans or the base classes would be best but whatever the consensus wants.

Personally I feel like "just the core races" would be reasonable, but "humans only" is kinda boring.

But if the GM and group want to go with "humans only" then that's their call and I am willing to go along with it, even if it's not 100 percent my style (I like groups with some unusual races in them)

    Dark Archive

Alrighty! Then by popular request I ammend the creation guidlines:
    *********************************************************************
Core Races Only instead of "humans only"
    *********************************************************************

    Liberty's Edge

I'm dotting, I have an Alchemist that would be appropriate. I'll try to get him up to snuff in the next few days.

Just curious, now that non-humans are available. The "no stat below 10" is after racials? (I'm going human, just wondering)

    Dark Archive

Oh, well, I suppose racial mods can drop you below 10. A dwarf's extra str from his 8 chr will not save him from the galactic terrors of this adventure anyway... *grins, waggles tentacles*

Already had this guy made up for another strange aeons game that I didn't get into. All the details are in the profile, though I need to adjust some of the skills to reflect this game being only a 15 point buy. I'll probably wait to see if I get in before doing that though.

I have a character made up. No alias yet, as I'd rather not have unused aliases cluttering my account. will make it post haste if I get accepted.

I've been up and down, trying to decide whether or not to post into this recruitment, but I'm going to throw my hat into the ring. I am going to submit a human Occultist. Will hopefully have the character up later today.

    Dark Archive

Why the hesitation? Were you scaaaaaared??? :)

Having a hard time deciding what to play, actually. I had several ideas bouncing around that I couldn't decide between.

Though this wars with her innate curiosity in learning about strange objects, she approaches them with a “measure twice, cut once” mentality. This way, she can avoid catastrophic issues that may cause problems down the road.

Sephira has pale skin and dark hair and eyes, like the majority of the citizens of Ustalav. She’s of average height and weight, with a semi-athletic build. She dresses in plain clothes, suitable for moving around in.

I just got into a different game, so I'm withdrawing from this one.

Highly recommend someone pick up medium, if you can. Low point buy, occult focused game is exactly the niche for that class to shine.

How long is recruitment? I should be able to submit a character Monday.

    Dark Archive

Monday noon eastern. Plenty of time.

After selection we can pause so players can make tweeks to their builds, so don't stress too hard. Just get a good shell together if you are time crunched.

    Personality Blurb:

Tyrithe is one of the Forlorn--but even by the standards of that motley group he is an odd one. He believes that he has been blessed by Chucaro with a benign madness, for he perceives symphonies of light and sound that no others can. Far from obscuring his sense of the world around him, they enhance it--a secret door outlined here, a fallen object glowing with cerulean light there, a haunting refrain warning of danger ahead.

Tyrithe places less faith in plans and contingencies than most, believing that the Maiden of Whimsy's blessings guide to the where & when he is needed. While a peaceful soul who would rather dance or paint than fight, Tyrithe is resolute in serving his mistress's will, and has received some training from the small cult of Chucaro in hunting down nightmare creatures that crawl forth from the dark places of the multiverse or the nightmares of long-forgotten gods. Tyrithe sees the destruction of such creatures as his calling, and privately considers Chucaro's blessing a form of inoculation against their maddening forms. He is affable and generous but easily distracted by his visions, on occasion humming or dancing to a tune only he hears. His behavior can at times be erratic, which has grated on more down-to-earth acquaintances in the past.

I would like to throw my hat into the ring with Ungebrochen Dwarf Spiritualist with his ancestor at his side! Still some things to do!

    Personality:

What does not kill you, makes you stronger. But the pain and the suffering is still there. Ungebrochen does remember the past of his ancestors, it is whispering in his ears day and night. But this makes him just stronger, keeps his eyes sharp. He can see things others... do not.
Never will. And they can´t understand him. But that is fine. He is there. To protect them if necessary. He can see.
He is not rash, but methodic. If he makes up his mind, he will not hesitate to say what he thinks. He like to enjoy the life, but in modesty. And he has seen the worst one can see.
He is a matchmaker. No, not matches. He seeks the perfect partner for his customers!

Wow, nice character blurb, crusader. I genuinely enjoyed reading that. Fits the ap syle perfectly too.

In the basement of the asylum, Dervak roars and rattles his chains.
He thought he was close to escaping once, but that must have been a dream. That reality ended far too soon.

    Personality:

But what of it? He deserves to be imprisoned. He is a monster, cursed by his befouled bloodline and by his own weakness in giving in to the Dark Whisper within. He should remain bound in chains forever.
Unless... Unless he could be of some use defending something noble and pure. Though he himself would never be those things, if Gorum willed it he could die in battle protecting such virtues from the corruption of the beyond.

Lots more in the profile... Aberrant bloodrager with both the Aberrant aspect and the half-orc aspect from a bit of Lovecraftian back story (that he may not know).
As a player, one of my goals for this AP is to respect the horror elements, and have the character be actually disturbed by things that are supposed to be horrific.

Ichabod's profile is now statblocked in Class/Level slot.
Plus, I'm excited another character with the aberrant bloodline has been submitted! Dervak looks very cool!

    SPECIAL ABILITIES
Armor Expert When you wear armor of any sort, reduce that suit's armor check penalty by 1, to a minimum check penalty of 0.

Latent Psion You gain a +2 trait bonus on saves against mind-affecting effects.
Sensitive Mind You gain a +1 trait bonus on Appraise, Perception, and Sense Motive checks; Appraise is a class skill for you. In addition, once per week you can use the psychometry occult skill unlock even if you are not capable of casting psychic spells or have the Psychic Sensitivity feat.
Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.

No Racial Subtype You have chosen no racial subtype.

Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.

Studied Target (Ex) A slayer can study an opponent to gain a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, and Sense Motive; a +1 bonus on Perception, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent; and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against 1 opponents at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target. If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll). At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the bonuses on weapon attack rolls, damage rolls, and skill checks and to slayer DCs against a studied target increase by 1.. In addition, at each such interval, the slayer is able to maintain these bonuses against an additional studied target at the same time. The slayer may discard this connection to a studied target as a free action, allowing him to study another target in its place. A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action.

Track (Ex) You gain +1 to Survival checks made to follow tracks.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency A slayer is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, as well as with light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Weapon and Armor Proficiency A stygian slayer is proficient with light armor, but not with medium armor, heavy armor, or any kind of shield (including tower shields). This replaces the slayer's armor proficiency.

    Personality:
Narcizia is very curious and energetic, she likes to know how things work and what they're made of, her prefered method of finding this out is by disassembling thing, and her favorite subject of study is people. When she can't employ her usual means of learning, Narcizia likes to converse and maybie befriend others, she has a knack for asking uncomfortably direct and intimate questions in her quest to find out about others, and also tends to report her "findings" in a monologue to herself.

When she is really curious about someone, keeping her new friend alive becomes a very important priority, and she will do her best to protect and help them; plus, she learned by experience that this often gives her a chance to encounter and disassemble many other strange, intriguing things!

I will have an occultist bubbling up...

.... first time I've looked properly at the classes from Occult Adventures ...

    Liberty's Edge

Here is my Alchemist, Volco Sissorba. I may have borked a bit the crunch, will double-check later.
He's a bit of a mad scientist, LN crossing to LE. He could perform atrocities, but it would be For Science.

    Personality:
It would be wrong, but not totally off the mark, to either call Volco a sociopath or unhinged. He prefers the word "pragmatist". He isn't going to enjoy doing the wrong thing for the right cause, but he's going to do it. And, of course, many people would argue with his definition of "right cause".
He believes in science and reason over all, acting with rigorous, logical analysis in every situation, no matter how ruthless it may seem. If it could lead to a discovery, to knowledge, to the improvement of himself and mankind, he has no qualms.
Human experimentation? If it kills ten people to save a thousand, why not? It's all for the greater good, after all.

If you decide to go back to the all-human party, I can switch Dervak to be human. Would probably use the bonus feat to retain some outward manifestation of his being a monster (Racial Heritage, Tumor Familiar, or something).

One thing all-human has going for it is that darkness is scary...

Still working on crunch, but I'd like to submit Kili, a human spiritualist with a roleplaying twist: the spiritualist himself is little more than a Dollhouse 'doll'. My character is the phantom.

    Personality:
Kili is a bright girl in her mid-teens-- slender with long red hair. She and her brother Jex, a strong specimen nearing his twentieth birthday, grew up together in a small house-- which is where her memories end. Kili is utterly devoted to her older brother, but with his mind broken and his personality gone (for reasons unknown to her), she thinks of herself as his protector now instead of the other way around.

Kili, the phantom, has full control of Jex's body when the two are sharing consciousness, but when she's manifested, Jex is basically an automaton.
