Axhammer seeing Aolis come out of room, shakes his head and motions to the others to walk with him if they choose, looking up at the elf he gives a frown.
"Aolis, seems we have a problem." and proceeds to hand over the letter for him to look at.

There delivered the message to everyone in my group now.

Actually, everything WAS under Alysandra's alias - it was Coalhouse's actions that were under hers. (Though that was really just a 'repeat' of what he'd been doing before ...)

"Please stand, I am still not comfortable with all this ceremony and pomp."

Nonetheless aware of the etiquette, and keeping alert for movement by the king, Alysandra manages to catch his move towards her and rise before he can commit what would still essentially be a faux pas - he might have been made king, but he's still walking a fine, fine line between needing to make the locals not want to kill him on the spot (tough job) and needing to make sure he receives the courtesies of the royalty he's become. "It will be up to you to determine how much of it you accept in the new lands, Your Majesty," replies the half-elf woman, "but for now cetain courtesies are expected - especially from one of the commons. Always difficult trying to figure out how the vast majority of your people view you." Although she knows that this is probably not the best place to lobby for a form of government different than what Brevoy possesses, she seriously considers it; she isn't likely to have the king's attention all that often.

"What's the problem? That's actually good for us Sir Axhammer."

That's ... weird, Coalhouse thinks, brows furrowing as he starts to drift after the two - or rather, after the girl, because buttonholing Aolis would probably be counterproductive. When she makes a beeline for the exit, Coalhouse slips through the crowd like a wraith, completely failing to give offense to anyone as he ducks out the same exit she did. Picking up the pace, he hurries after her, determined to pin her to the wall and find out what the hell is going on.

Diplomacy: moving through the crowd: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Perception: spotting the girl: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

Yes, I am aware that this may (probably will) make Coalhouse late for the dinner itself; in this particular case, he may well be able to pass that off as a 'gauche half-orc commoner' thing, couldn't find the bathroom or something. In either case, he's willing to take the heat in order to satisfy his curiousity.

Looking up towards the elf, an eyebrow raises. "You do not think this some sort of trap that may have been raised by certain leaders of certain places that would like nothing better than to make this a puppet nation?"

Aolis arches an eyebrow in turn with amusement on his lips.

"Come now Sir Axhammer, do you really believe they are capable of destroying not only our own group but multiples without letting a single one of us escape or cause havoc in the process. The distance and time is not great enough for that. Not to mention I would like to think we all have competent seconds, Sacha would certainly not let my sudden disappearance go unanswered. More so when she is fully aware of those I met with. Frankly the same could be said about my family and other friends. No, such a play would be incredible costly on all fronts both in the short and long term. That sort of gambit would end a budding nation before it began and tear apart another. If their position was so stable and solid, they would not have a need for another nation from the start now would they."

He leans over slightly to clap him on the shoulder.

"You should not look for enemies in ever action. You will only create them endlessly and miss out on opportunities that way."

Your call. The girl will get out before he can catch her. And maybe he won't be able to find her, or take some time to find her.

So, does he risks to skip dinner?
If you ask me, if he was going to skip it, he could have not gone to it in the first place.

Risk being late to sit down, yes. If a five-minute thing like this (40' movement helps?) is going to cause me to miss a two hour long socially-critical dinner for some reason, then yes, skip the five-minute thing. If, on the other hand, it makes me five minutes late for 'going in to dinner' (which might barely impinge on the first wines being poured, much less the first course) then yes, I'd risk it.

If, on the other hand, you really don't want to run it, then sure, we can skip it. Up to you as to how you want to run it.

The First Dinner
You all take your seats, and Lord Mayor Ioseph Sellemius or Restov stands and greets all of you.
"Tonight we celebrate the start of a new adventure. Tonight we celebrate the recovery of the lands stolen from us by bandits, monsters and fey. Tonight we celebrate the triumph of Brevoy against our enemies. But more than anything, we celebrate the brave souls that will go to recover those lands, and will carve the prosperity of those lands with their sweat and blood. Tonight we celebrate all of you."
He raises his goblet to toast with you:
"Brevoy! Rostland! Restov!"
After the toast he continues.
"And tonight we have another motive to celebrate. Our dear Regent Noleski Surtova has chosen to support our efforts, and has sent to us, to lead this expedition, his own cousin, his Royal Highness Rupert Surtova!"
Applause starts to sounds from the "conservative" merchants, and soon all the room is applauding (some more than others).
"Not only that, our beloved Regent has provided us with an official charter and plenty resources to start this colonization. He has gift us with a shipment of gold, tools, craftsmen, laborers, and colonists eager to make a new life in a new kingdom! I will let His Royal Highness Rupert Surtova continue with the good news."
The Mayor lets himself fall on his chair, and then Rupert Surtova stands.

Sense Motive DC 20:
The Mayor is devastated. What would become a change to Rostland to gain an ally for its push for independence will now be on the hands of the Regent, and he has no way to avoid it.

Screams of "Ours Is the Right!" starts to sound from some guards and the conservative merchants. The rest of the people politely applaud.
After half a minute Rupert raises his hand to ask for silence, and starts to read from a very ornate scroll.
"Be it so known that the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne, has granted to his highness Rupert Surtova the right of exploration, travel and dominion, as King, of the wilderness region known as the Stolen Lands. He will be required to strive against banditry and other unlawful behavior to be encountered, clear the land of perils and monsters, develop the assigned territories and protect their new subjects with the help of his strength, courage and faith. He is also granted the right to choose his successors, and grant power and authority for administering and imparting justice in this new lands. So witnessed on this 15th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne. God save King Rupert the First!"
The Mayor Ioseph Sellemius stands and scream, as well as the other people in the room:
"GOOD SAVE KING RUPERT THE FIRST!"
If anyone does not scream, please let me know... so measures can be taken ;)
After the cheering ends Rupert starts to speak, now without reading.
"We have been chosen for a daunting task. For a test that many people before us have failed. To tame a land that refuses to be tamed. To unite what wish to be apart."
Sense Motive DC 15:
He is not only talking of the Stolen Lands. He is talking of Rostland too.

"In this new Kingdom, I will not be able to do all of this alone. I am not strong enough, wise enough, intelligent enough, pious enough. I won't be able to deal with every problem, help every subject, defend every town. I will need brave agents to enact my will. I will need noble souls to help me. I will need friends to counsel me. I will need heroes to defend my subjects, my lands, and my family. Today I think have the right persons for it in front of me, and I ask to them: Are you willing to stand by me? Are you willing to swear loyalty to my house?"
Everybody notices he changed his discourse from the royal "we" to a very "inappropriate" I, as if conceding his personal need for help.
He looks at Amavin Zephyra.
"Amavin, will you accept to swear fealty to my house, and us as King? And maybe, in the future, become something even more important to me?"
That is tricky. He started with a very formal royal WE, but the second part is back to the personal I.
He is expecting for Amavin to accept, and become the first subject on his new Kingdom, to come forward, kiss his hand, and swear fidelity to him as king. Normal procedure to become a noble and fief to the new King and his house. It is a solemn and binding oath. He is not proposing to marry. Yet.
After Amavin he will call the rest of your "main" characters, starting with Merus Lebeda (putting him in a tight spot), and then the male Cenobitic monk, Ignatius Digenes Akritas, Axhammer Rocknose, Titian Stagson, Rudolf Ferdinand Aldori III, Azrael the Avenger, Christian D Elagante, Elliomander Ostarian, Aolis Greenborn, Aramil Wellys, Alexander Dumonte, Trawets Aarock and Dagit Downhill. But that is not all. When everybody thinks he is done, he also asks for his oath Coalhouse Porter, causing a commotion.
The cenobitic monk and Rudolf Ferdinand Aldori III will swear the oath and kiss the ring, the whole 9 yards.
There is no "polite" way to refuse. If you don't do it will not only be a breach of etiquette, but almost a declaration of treason against the Dragonscale Throne. This was a very well played political move to bind you all to Rupert, in public.
When you pass to swear fealty you are expected to say a brief phrase as your promise. If you reject you are granted some last words (just joking!). (Maybe :P).

The fidelity promise from Rudolf Ferdinand Aldori III is short ("On my honor!"), and the Cenobitic monk ("I swear not for me but for all of my brothers").
Fealty oath swear time!

Aolis took his seat, honestly he rather loathed the whole thing. His usual amusement was gone, replaced by a aloof and capriciousness. He not only watched carefully but noted every word. Half these people would be dead in a few decades, he doubted any would make it far pass a century. What did they truly know of loyalty, fealty, and legacy. Spending their days far from the test of such things and one's own soul. Much less the stamina and endurance needed for such a thing, more so in the river kingdoms where they rose like weeds only to be cut down or devoured shortly after. None the less he paid and observed the courtesies of the event. He clapped softly at the right time and spoke the words when needed, he did not scream as his self respect and sense of honesty out weighed such a boorish act.

When the time came for everyone to take their oaths, he took special notice of those that came before and those that would come after. When his time came he took an easy stride, his cane tapping softly with each step. If any had seen him during the earlier evening or even among his camp they would not think him the same person. His baring was no longer friendly, easy, or welcoming. In fact it was almost foreboding and intense, their was a great indifference in the mage as he approached.

His cane comes down on his last step, it lets out a loud crack. He bows slightly then bending far more due to his height he pecks the hand with his lips before rising to speak.

"I serve the worthy."

He repeats it in draconic, he had considered speaking solely in the tongue of dragons. Yet was not aware how many here knew it, despite it's common usage in Brevoy compared to other lands. His words were simple because they were just that, actions had more enduring effects. He was a firm believer of that for the most part. It was also a reminder, loyalty was not a chain borne alone nor was it a cage to capture someone. Many had made that mistake, some still did.

Take 10/20 on Sense Motive, my mod is +13. If I can't let me know.

Amavin listens quietly to the speech, attempting to notice reactions throughout the speech, whenever the king says something that directly affects someone noteworthy. What she isn't happy with though, when it comes around to her own turn, is the mangling of the interpersonal and the personal in his statement. On the one hand, she doesn't mind swearing fealty, but she also feels that the king has, deliberately or not, put her in a difficult position, and shes fully aware that informing the public that she might be even more important to the king, paints a large target on her back from the kings enemies, and probably creates unequal diplomatic relationships with everyone else. So, when the king makes his request, Amavin comes forward, and kisses the ring. "I swear fealty to your house, and you. I additionally swear that I will always do what's best for this kingdom", she swears, satisfied with her own answer.

Sitting down as dinner is called for, Aramil applauds for the Lord-Mayor's speech, and calls out, "Gods save King Rupert the First!" with the others (although not as enthusiastically). When Rupert asks for fealty, however, his face falls. This man was a Surtova, cousin to a weasel and a thief. He meant to have Rostland united with Issia as well, under the Dragonscale Throne. The pride of Restov and the Swordlords meant he could not swear fealty to such a king - could he?

As others went up to swear fealty, he racked his brain, trying to decide what to do. When he saw Azrael go, he thought, What is my best course of action? Should I swear to him? I will likely have to flee if I do not.

Then, he remembered an Elven proverb his father was fond of saying. "In stormy winds, you must bend as the willow tree, not stand as the oak."

When he was called forward, he slowly approached, then when he was close, he knelt and said, "I swear to protect and fight for a new kingdom, and for the people who will live there. I swear to protect you, your daughter, and any future queen or other children you may have. I swear this before these witnesses and the gods." He then lightly kissed the king's ring before returning to his seat.

An oath of fealty to Rupert, and not to Noleski. Perhaps I shall influence him to be more favorable towards Rostland and Restov. Porablum seems to be getting on well with his daughter - that may provide an in for me to influence his policies.

The calls of 'Ours is the Right!" make his gaze shift to those who are most vocal in that particular calling, and those who are, perhaps, least enthused. He himself applauds, but this isn't his bailiwick.

Sense Motive I:

Coalhouse: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Alysandra: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

He leans over to Alysandra, murmuring, "Mayor doesn't look too happy."

Alysandra replies, with a graceful smile for anyone looking, "Would you be, to get your shipment hijacked like this and have to try to smile while you ate sh!t?"

Coalhouse grunts and sits back in his chair.

The two engage in the classic commoner art of noble-watching (from surprisingly close quarters!) as they listen to Rupert Surtova's formal reading of the charter for the new land. Alysandra does expect what's coming, and though she doesn't stand, has timed picking up her glass to coincide with the end of the charter, and while lifting it in a toast calls out "God save King Rupert!!" with the others. (Yes, she omits 'the First'. She also takes a drink afterwards, then momentarily considers a drinking game on the cue of 'God Save King Rupert.' The idea is discarded due to the likelihood of being utterly schnonkered after twenty minutes.)

Everyone - or almost everyone - bounding to their feet to cheer and howl out their encouragement takes Coalhouse by complete surprise, though; he's in the middle of taking a drink when it pops, and almost spills the damn wine. Looking around a little wild at the corners of his eyes, then glancing at his now-applauding sister, he climbs to his feet and applauds - even cheers a bit. It clearly isn't something he was expecting to do, or feels comfortable doing, but hell, when in Magnimar ...

Sense Motive II:

Coalhouse: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Alysandra: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

At the Surtova's double meaning, Coalhouse glances to the side, to find Alysandra already looking at him. He gives a tusky grin, trying to look as innocent as he can. The two exchange a quiet chuckle, returning their attention to royalty. After his mention of 'brave agents, noble souls, friends, and heroes', Coalhouse again leans over to her. "You feeling brave, noble, friendly, and heroic?"

"I'll take friendly," comes her deadpanned reply. "The rest is your job."

He snorts and settles back in his chair once again. With the sharp eyes of the smart and experienced laborer, he watches those called up giving their oaths of loyalty, listening to how they phrase them - or, in some cases, how they try to dance around the issue. With a fair amount of frequency, he glances sideways at Alysandra, whose commentary is entirely non-vocal, but after working together so long, just as entirely understandable.

Sense Motive DC 36:
Call it -10 penalty to get across a non-verbal, but the standard roll to intercept it?
Bluff: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36

Amavin Zephyra: 'Can work with her.'
Aramil Wellys: 'Sounds honest.'
Azrael the Avenger: 'Straightforward.'
Cenobitic monk: 'Not sure about him.'
Dagit Downhill: 'Unpolitical, potentially useful.'
Ignatius Digenes Akritas: 'Good orc.'
Rudolf Ferdinand Aldori III: 'Duellist's honor, not soldier's.'
Titian Stagson: 'Archaic, but clear.'
Trawets Aarock: 'Too openly enthusiastic.'

For Alexander Dumonte, Elliomander, and Lord Christian D'Elegante, I'll add the subtext between Coal and Aly if/when those three post. For the three still to amend their oaths or take their leave, if they amend their oaths:

Aolis Greenborn: 'Arrogant; need alternate plans.'
Axhammer Rocknose: 'Obsessive - watch your back.'
Merus Lebeda: 'Shaky ground there.'

If they take their leave, well - no need to worry about them.

Trust but verify, and always keep a backup handy - just in case.

When the summons for him comes, it's clear he's not expecting it, especially not as the last individual to be called up; there might be all sorts of possible reasons for it, but he's aware that social etiquette usually 'saves the best for last,' as it were. Standing slowly up, he is entirely all too aware of the facts that first, every noble is probably making the same potential 'the last shall be first' social connections as he, and second, that everyone in the place right now has a knife or at least a fork of some sort near to their hand. From his place at the table to where the new king waits is a potential gauntlet of death, and with his senses screaming 'threat' at every step he moves with the same predatory unease he'd shown in the ballroom while socializing, his eyes shifting from potential threat to possible danger every second or so - the guards along the walls, the local nobles in their seats, his 'fellow colonists' in theirs after all of their own oath- or leave-takings.

Approaching the new Surtova King, he gives a bow - practiced, clearly, but not with natural ease, and spoiled a little by that wary-eyes-up posture of the experienced close-quarters combatant and/or street criminal. Aloud, and in a voice for everyone to hear: "Your Majesty, I didn't expect this. A lot of others here have sworn by high houses, grand dreams, noble honor, and sworn brethren. Many have called upon the gods, maybe tried to avoid swearing by saying their loyalty depends on whether or not the gods favor you."

Coalhouse pauses to look around, feeling that itching between his shoulder-blades and knowing damn well that while he's probably not the most socially maladroit one here, he and his sister are definitely the only 'official commoners' invited - and considering the half-orc's current location, probably at the new king's insistence. He'd bet hard-earned money that most of them want him stuffed back into the wagon which they imagine he came in, or 'where he belongs', in the stables shovelling manure. Screw 'em, he thinks.

Turning back, he says in a carrying voice, "I'm a simple man, King Surtova. And it's on simple things I swear me and mine to you and yours, body and breath. On the land, the fields, the herds we seek to make grow. On the roads and bridges and relationships we hope to build. On the simple hopes for a good piece of farmland, for enough food to feed your kids and survive the winter, on living in peace and without fear long enough to see your first great-grandchild. Most of all, I swear on the common people - the ones who come with us, the ones we'll need to persuade to stay, the ones the gods give us to raise, the ones we try to protect, and most of all the ones we'll fail to save. That's who I swear by, Your Majesty: by the people, and since my sister and I are the ony ones here who are really of the people, I suppose I'm swearing for the people, too."

Deliberately, he meets Rupert's gaze, his own that wary one of someone who has seen far too many nobles and members of Great Houses ride all but literally upon the backs of the commoners who make the wine, build the chairs, grow the food, do the work: part challenge, part pleading, and all mutely desperate for this king to be someone who'll understand his last words, still spoken loudly enough to be heard through the room: "I beg you to prove worthy of our small hopes, our simple dreams, and our honest loyalty." The half-orc bows, missing the ring kiss (because he thought you only did that for high priests), but for once his eyes are not partly-up and keeping a watch out for inbound trouble.

A Simple Error:
KS: Nobility: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Silly orc. This is the most likely time ever for there to be unexpected incoming ...

Don't worry, she has a very memorable appearance.

He shivers a twitch of a wink at the man chosen to be king - a man that's showing himself to be surprisingly and gratifyingly human.

That jerks from the half-orc a snort of laughter, but also a blush that deepens the green of his skin; he kisses the ring, straightens, says an embarrassed "Sorry," bows again (this time that same eyes-open bow), and finally heads back to his seat.

So, we still need to sort out Axhammer and Merus oaths, and Christian D'Elagante has not posted yet...
Nate's Elliomander I will say swears his fealty, while he recovers.
Same thing with The Orc Next Door's Alexander Dumonte, and Jovich's Christian D'Elagante, which haven't posted on a while.
So, while we sort out what with Axhammer and Merus, we continue with what happens after Coalhouse swears.
Galahad and Grog, we continue with the swearing, and the answer from your characters anyway, we are just moving along for the others.

His Majesty Rupert Surtova stands tall, and a ray of light seems to emanate from his face.
"Today my kingdom are Stolen Lands. Not stolen from Brevoy, and not stolen from us. They are Stolen from the people that lived, and still lives, there. Tonight, as we dine surrounded by safety and riches, the people in my kingdom have no arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and their life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short."
He seems sadden as he speaks that last part, but then his face takes a hard and strong look.
"Tonight I swear on my life to recover that lands, not for me, but for them. Not for my safety, but for the safety of my daughter, and all my subjects sons. And if I die defending them, I will die with a smile on my face. Because tonight I become one with the land, and the land becomes one with me. And with the help of this strong and valiant heroes, I am sure we will win the land back. Not for us, but for them, the common people, and their children."
All the nobles and merchants and swordlords of Restov and Rostland keep still and silent, not knowing what to do of Rupert's outburst.

Applaud; that's what you do.

It starts out with a single clap; one. Then another; two. Then several more, picking up speed, and the lean-solid form of the commoner half-orc Coalhouse Porter stands up from his seat, his expression almost grim as he decides that y'know, a man who makes an oath like that is a man he can follow, and that he can be confident in leading his own people to follow. This is a king who has sworn to dedicate his life to exactly what Coalhouse asked of him.

And Coalhouse would be a hypocrite if he did anything but cheer him on.

Smoothly, a bare heartbeat after Coalhouse stands, Alysandra Janus rises to her feet, applauding as well. It doesn't matter if they're the only ones who do at all; they'll applaud, for long minutes. And if they are the only ones, then screw the nobles, the entire lot of 'em.

Then, for the first time, the half-orc hammers out, "Long live King Rupert!!" And y'know, he actually means it.

Amavin also claps in vague support, although public screams of admiration she tends to avoid at all possible. Volume, she feels, does not make words more or less important, nor truthful, as far to often in her experience, it is the people that yell the loudest, that are the most ignorant.

So she defaults to clapping, and smiling in admiration, as she quietly observes the crowd. She appreciates the general feel of the speech, although she feels the wording could be tuned better, feeling that it comes accross as slightly superior to the people already living there.

Aolis politely claps but that is all, his usual amusement had not returned. The party was very much over and this king was only making more enemies as the night drew on. He had watched and taken the measure of those that swore, it seemed he was not alone in his opinions or reservations. Nor did it seem that he was alone in a great many things. He could see a multitude of outcomes, every time the king spoke more of them were bleak for him indeed. A new king with no wisdom tended to be the last king of his line, more so when they acted like scheming nobles. His words rang hallow to his ears, he did not know the land or the people. The river folk were not like those of this land, if he came across them and imposed his rule. It would not go well for him or even his kingdom, for the river kingdoms were full of kings and lords. All of which proved themselves by ruling in a land that cut their kind down by the score every year. Enemies behind you, enemies before you, and enemies around you. Only to add more by placing yourself in affairs that only moments later you claim are not your concern. Earlier he may have felt pity for this lone king, perhaps he would gain a good advisor and listen to them to repair the damage wrought. He certainly did not envy the task. Yet now, this king would have to prove very much later tonight why he was worth the effort. He claimed he was ready to die time and again, that was easy. Living was hard, he knew that better then any human ever would.

Turning to Sacha he speaks softly.

"Pass that plate please."

Aramil glances at Porablum, and remains silent as those remaining swear. We'll see what we find out later tonight. At hearing Coalhouse's name called, he gives a small start, not expecting the king to ask fealty of the leader of his baggage train. He gives the half-orc a closer look as he moves to the front, noting the other's blatant discomfort with the situation. And no wonder. He has to feel like everyone in the room is dissecting him and plotting to stab him in the back at first opportunity. Still, he moves with more combat grace than I would have thought. There is more to him than is readily apparent.

As King Rupert gives his speech, Aramil politely joins in the applause. Words were easy to say, and their meaning could be shifted. He would see if King Rupert's actions matched them before he celebrated.
