Godwyn Blaecwulf |
With his heart sinking, Godwyn goes to inspect the child size corpses. Though ashamed of it, he hoped that the corpses were of halflings or the like, rather than children. While he knew that either death would be a tragedy, the idea of children being murdered was too terrible to contemplate.
Ojore |
Ojore follows Damiel up. Once up he inspects these corpses, refusing to allow the closeness of those dead to impact his performance. Death was part of nature and he worshiped nature.
Heal Check, body 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Heal Check, body 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Corsario |
Godwyn and Ojore approach and start to examine the bodies, making a relief sound at finding them to be halflings (Song'o probably) and not children.
Damiel climbs up last, and soon starts turning around, as if confused or looking for something.
Damiel Morgethain |
Looking around furiously, shivering like he did down the ladder, and seemingly confused, "don't you hear that? They are whispering." Putting his arms out for balance, "the floor and those shattered holy symbols are shaking, Gundar." with almost a desperation in his voice. "Don't you see it!"
Corsario |
You indeed notice the idol fragments in the floor are shaking.
Each of your characters roll a Will Saving Throw DC 11.
Gundar Ironbeard |
Will Save DC11: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Gundar has a fleeting thought of violence that he quickly suppresses. He looks at the broken statues that Damiel seems adamant about trying to figure out their significance and why they might be shaking.
Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Let me take a look at those statues for you Damiel.
Damiel Morgethain |
Damiel Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damiel Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
"Let me help you with that Gundar" as he tries to help the dwarf figure out what the fragments were from, but his knowledge of religion is not up to what it should be.
Godwyn Blaecwulf |
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Godwyn sadly gets up and walks away from the halfling bodies. He let the others talk, he instead leaned against the wall and tried to catch his breath. He hasn't realized that he had lost it. A fleeting desire to grab a crossbow bolt and stab himself with it went through his mind, but he shook it off. Not knowing where the effect came from, he instead assumed that the horror of the place was just getting to him. His green skin looked paler than usual.
Corsario |
You all saved!
Ojore has it right. The bodies where put like this after dead, to make them look as if died fighting against the human garrison. And, in their custom, the Song'o Halflings would expect a haunt to appear at this place.
And Gundar felt it. The impulse to hurt himself.
This place is now cursed.
Ojore |
We must take action to allow these spirits to rest. But what action? Should we remove the arrows and bury the bodies or must they be returned to their tribe? Of something I cannot guess.
Corsario |
Damiel knows that sometimes, when the murdered corpses are available and in the place of the curse, the haunts can be destroyed by taking the bodies to their home and performing the proper funerary rites to the dead involved.
Sometimes.
Damiel Morgethain |
Damiel Knowledge(local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Where their home would be located
Damiel Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 Listen east door
Damiel Perception (Trap): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 Traps east door
Damiel Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 If needed
"We need to take these corpses to their home, and have them buried properly" Damiel says.
Damiel then steps over to the east door and listens and looks for traps.
Corsario |
The Song'o are nomads, and their burial grounds not very well known. The easiest way would be to deliver them to their tribe.
Godwyn Blaecwulf |
"Let us respectfully lay the bodies to rest here, and then once we finish our search we will carry their remains to the tribe."
Corsario |
You lay the bodies respectfully, and use some cloth to cover them.
Where to now?
Corsario |
You are right, sorry.
No traps or locks, it leads to the parapet on the south side of the fort, stopping in the top part of the now ruined door.
The north door is also "free" of surprises, and leads to the west side of the fort's parapet, finishing in another door in the North West fort tower.
Damiel Morgethain |
Damiel Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damiel Perception (Trap): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damiel Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 If needed
Damiel heads up to the north door after checking out the walkway, and listens at the door, checks the door for traps and disables it if need be. He then steps aside and lets Godwyn or Flavius open the door and go thru first.
Godwyn Blaecwulf |
Godwyn walks next to Flavius, holding his axe at the ready. After a moment of reflection, he could feel his anger rising. Somebody had done these atrocities, and he wanted to know who...
Corsario |
The jungle sounds are ominous after witnessing so much dead, and the smell of decay is strong here, downwind.
The door is also clean, so you can enter unimpeded.
Strategy Room
A long wooden table covered in scattered paperwork fills much of this room. A decapitated female human corpse is slumped across the mess. Doors exit the room to the south and east, while a ladder in the southwestern corner descends to the first floor of the fort.
Godwyn Blaecwulf |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Godwyn walks into the room and does his best not to look at the decapitated corpse. He starts looking through the paperwork strewn about.
"Just mundane reports...local weather...animal migrations...plants. Nothing here looks too relevant."
Gundar Ironbeard |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Gundar stands on his tippy-toes trying to peek at the paper-work as Godwyn and Flavius read it.
Yep! Looks mundane!
Tired of standing on his toes, Gundar instead tries to examine the corpse.
It looks like she was kilt with a spear! Gundar announces as he notices the puncture wounds.
Corsario |
Gentle reminder: You can roll to "Aid Another", with a DC 10, and if you make it you grant a +2 to other character roll.
For example:
- Gundar makes an Aid Another Perception check granting Flavius a +2 bonus, so Flavius beats the Perception DC 18 spoiler.
- Ojore tries an Aid Another DC 10 Heal check. If he does it Gundar makes the Heal DC 17 spoiler check.
Team up!
PS. Yes, you can read the Perception DC 18 spoiler.
Godwyn Blaecwulf |
aid another heal check: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Having found the footprint, everything started to slowly come together. A a single footprint left in the victim’s blood on a piece of scattered paperwork was found...the footprint was human-sized with clawed toes! This, combined with the severed hand and the scale...Godwyn suddenly yelled out "Lizardfolk! It has to have been them. But why would they do this?!"
Corsario |
You needed a Knowledge (Local) or Survival check DC 15 to know that... :S But what the hell! Yes, the Lizardfolk butler did it! :D
Gundar Ironbeard |
And we didn't even have to interrogate anyone!
