It is a hot day outside. And for some reason, it feels like a good day...

As another " satisfied" customer leaves the shop, Sarcon picks his teeth with his tattoo needle.
hhhmmmm...It's starting to taste funny, maybe I should look into that whole sterilizing thing.

He calls out to no one important, as he sets out to find tasty treats.

Whistles for himself as he shoves a fine layer of dirt unto a seemingly new coffin, he pauses for a moment to greet some passing citizens. He pauses for a single moment to wave to a passing group of cheering villagers, flashing a small grin to them as they bumble forward. His eyes runs over the streets before he jumps down into the grave and swings the coffin lid open. His nose wrinkles in an expression of disappointment as the corpse appears to be missing both arms. "Unfit, this will not do at all." He mumbles something under his breath about doctors and their relentless mutilation of perfectly good stiffs before returning to his work.

"This heat is going to speed up the decay, this will not do at all."

Crystal looks up at the man striding beside her fondly, her left arm swinging with his right, their hands interlaced. They talked of The City, of its history, its future, current goings-on. She turns her head to look at the large castle that dominates the city's skyline.

"What a beautiful castle! There must be a goodly king who lives there with all his court. Who lives there, do you know?"

She puts on her best smile for the man, a member of the town guard, as the two walk. She makes note of the differing shops and merchants. Trade was a city's life blood. Control the trade and you control the city. Of course, to pump blood, you needed a heart. Crystal's gaze drifts back to the castle as the guard turns to her, the walk at an end.

"It looks like this is where I leave you for now, love. Please do be careful on your watch." She reaches forward, giving the man a kiss on the cheek. He probably had hoped for more. She turns away, a sly smile on her face. Perhaps she would give him more, later. A night he would never forget.


They stood together around the open fire just as the sun set beyond the City wall, each with a bag of hard biscuits and a tankard of mead. The Commons around them was alight with other dancing fires and lamps held by shuffling figures, families and other companies taking advantage of the free open-air fire pits and local food vendors. The recent sugar shortage left the biscuits tasting bland, a fact that elicited more than a few grumblings.

The City's problems were relatively minor as compared to some; few went hungry, and bands of roving orcs and rumors of terrible monsters from the deep had become nothing but folklore and tavern talk. Thus, the people grew in prosperity, building up stores of salt, grains, and even gold. All this ripe for the taking, but for the ubiquitous town guard.

And so, here they gathered. A true ruler held legal right to tax and control the City, most people understood. But the Finders' Keep was guarded by ancient magic, the dark and dangerous halls claiming the lives of many naive adventurers or power-seekers over the years. Yet the old tales of abandoned mines and haunted towers holding locked-away treasures offered the prospect of hope; perhaps somewhere in those ruins beyond the City lay artifacts powerful enough to overcome the dangers of the Keep and allow a small band of brave and strong adventurers to finally reclaim the throne and tap the City for its dormant riches. Thus, with bland biscuits, strong resolve, and a common interest in controlling the City, they stood circled around the open fire just as the sun set beyond the City wall.

Crystal finishes her biscuit impatiently, the bland food making her impatient to get done. Rising, she stretches, her hands laced above her head as she slowly arches, feeling the tension ease out of her joints as she surveys her surroundings and companions. Her eyes immediately seek out Finder's Keep, or where it would be beyond the wall of the City.

That was where she belonged, she knew. She was destined for it, she knew, her dreams had lately been punctuated by images of herself upon the throne, the city on its knees before her. Still, she was not a fool, and would not rush headlong into disaster. She turns to her companions, crossing her arms in front of her breasts.

"What say you all? I have heard of the ruins nearby, and the treasures that they likely conceal. I suspect we shall need more power than we currently possess to assault the Finder's Keep. Shall we perhaps seek out one of these ruins and exploit it? A wand that could immobilize foes would be quite useful!"

Crystal would be gunning for a wand of hold person.

"I think it rather impolite to ignore the fact that I just had proceeded to the discussion you seem ready to have, good Doctor. Be that as it may, what do you suggest?"

Ahh sorry. I did not mean to invaladate your prior comments. Please excuse my lapse of atrentiveness. I was referring to your earlier talk of. Liberating some of the surroundings of their unneeded wealth. Wealth we could put to much better use.
Hmmm. How best to do it indeed. In the event of defending an area, i could set up bear traps laced with poison. Set up a corridor filled with Bayleaf incense and a trap set to cast murderous command.. Hmm much to think about indeed. I will have to experement in my basement. I believe fred is still alive...

Instead he merely resigns himself to taking generous heaves from his tankard. His eyes seemingly flickering back and fro between the peculiar gathering of individuals and the swaying flash of the fire pit. “You may accuse me of being overly pragmatic, nonetheless, additional intelligence on this topic would be greatly cherished.”

Sarcon silently chews his biscuit while staring into the flames. He suddenly straightens, and begins digging around in his pack.

"So I'm hearing agreements and long term goals, anyone have any short term ideas to get the ball rolling?

The priestess nods at Victoria. The woman had vision to match her own. Crystal sighs at Sarcon's comment, running a well-manicured hand through her blond hair. "Well, we could search through one of the nearby ruins. See what it might have to offer."

Addressing Victor, "I shall see what I can find out, and try to locate a suitable target."

Crystal uses her wiles and charms to gather information about a nearby ruin that may contain something of use. She thinks that perhaps a suit of magic armor might be something worth finding, or barring that, reagents for the Doc to transform into useful potions.

The eternal circle of existence proceeds, each flash merely a surge or ripple in the greater pattern. To depend upon mere monetary rewards seems quaint, nevertheless, the world acts and revolves with the promise of golden chains, and so I have been limited by this desire for wealth.

Victor’s robe prattled in the stiff wind, his long salt and pepper hair bellowing behind him as his narrow, haggard eyes are fixed upon the flames that dance so energetically in front of him. His figure seems to shudder slightly in the cold wind, his wrinkly hands shaking lightly from the exposure.

“Insufferable and yet pleasing.” He draws a small notebook from his black leather satchel, his frail hands running hungrily over the pages. “I think I might recall the location of a ruin in this very region.” He flips through the notebook, more as a relaxing ritual than to search for any real information.

Surely somewhere in this damned place would grant him a fair shard of golden coins.

I know of a mysterious place that holds untold riches. All I need is a tracker and we will be able to continue on our merry way. Without another word he throws his tankyard aside and lifts his gaunt hands towards the horizon.

Now hold on there Victor. I was loath to bring it up, but I also have some news. You see, just the other day, Konrad, the guard, you remember him? Well he came into my clinic the other day, had a nasty case of toe fungus. Sadly the only option was to amputate. take it off at the knee. Well the operation was a success, but thats irrelevant, whilst he was chained to the slab, he seemed to slip into a delirium, and he started raving, it was something about great wealth and potential for either great knowledge or mind control. It was kinda hard to make out.
But, Hmmm. I dont know, it was the ravings of a man on the slab, but it was lucrative.
Shall I tell more?

So, it seems riches are to be ours either way, but since mine was a different one then Victors, are you going to roll a second "rumor" for mine and let us choose which one we will go on?

As I was saying, Konrad had let slip that there was a tower, due south. Much riches were to be had in that tower, but alas, a terrible monster has since taken up residence. That was where Konrad was stationed and where he managed to get the fungus.
Hmmm. should we take on the lone madman, or possibly the lone monster. Hmmmm. Indeed it is quite the conundrum!

Crystal rolls her pretty blue eyes as the mad doctor carries on about his successful surgery. Between the two of them, the necromancer and doctor have better group treasure than the armor she had managed to uncover, so she lets her discovery remain silent.

She taps her chin with a delicate nail, pondering. A pile of gold would be nice, but mind control!!! That would definitely edge them closer to their goal. She looks around at her companions...between them, what monster would stand against them? She grins greedily, "I think this potential mind control would yield us better long term results. I believe we should investigate the southern tower and it's monster." She chortles at the end, showing what she thinks of any potential monstrous encounter.

"I vish that we will find some more suitable armor on our expedition." You can hear a frown in her voice. "Something that offers more complete protection." She gazes at her gauntleted hand and flexes it. "Steel is the only worthy raiment for Fate."

Wow, a natural 1 lol. Fate would like items to make her harder to hit and kill. She will probably be taking Heavy Armor Proficiency next level (Doom has to have full plate after all), so Heavy Armor would be an option she would like.

Crystal glances askew at Fate, silently agreeing. A magical breastplate, perhaps a ring that could deflect blows, something that would make her skin harder to penetrate, any of those things would suffice. However, the troves both the Doctor and Victor mentioned seemed more valuable to her group than armor for any one individual. She files this information away, however, as a possible alliance between the two could be started by just such an agreement of choice and style.

So far two for monster (I think), 1 for madman, 1 for other. Victor seems hellbent on gold (madman), from what I could gather. Fate, care to play tiebreaker?

"I am not one to disregard potential arcane lore, I suggest that we first investigate the good Doc's lead and then see if we have the time for mine at a later date, does that seem agreeable to the lot of you?" Victor scribbles eagerly in his notebook, writing down both the location and possible treasures of his own suggestion. "Wait, a tower to the south? I think I happen to know where it is."

Victor inclines his head respectfully towards the Doctor, Crystal and Fate and shakes Sarcon’s hand. After having wiped his hand furiously with a handkerchief and cleaned off the half-orc grease he mutters: “Alas, I must bend for the frailties of a mortal body. "It is agreed, then." The right side of her lips curl up slightly in response to the Doc's gesture, and she nods to him slightly. She pivots and starts to walk home to her small abode. Once inside, she secures the door and changes into her vestments after she draws the curtains.

Prying up the trapdoor in her kitchen, she descends into the darkness below. A quick prayer to her Patron lights up the small area, highlighting a wooden slab with a form resting atop it. She approaches the slumbering man, with a quick glance ensuring his bonds were still secure. The man obviously wouldn't be here if they weren't, but there was always the off chance that he might desire revenge more than freedom.

She drags her fingernail across his exposed side, watching him tense in his sleep. She smiles down at the man as his eyes slowly open, terror quickly replacing confusion on his face. She says in a sweet conversational tone, "It turns out I am not nearly as pleased with the information you gave me earlier as I once thought. I believe our arrangement will have to be...altared." She grins wickedly at the man, letting her gaze drift to the large altar before the hearth.

At a leisurely pace she walks to the prepared kindling and logs, crouching sideways to give the poor man a good view of the flames as they started to crack and sizzle the most dry fuel first. Crystal smiles again, in rapture, as the flames continue to grow. Her Patron would grant her the power she needed for this weekend's work. She cuts her pretty blue eyes towards the doomed man. She was sure of it.

Ready to quest whenever everyone else is.

Sarcon wonders as he heads to his home, a little place across from the main torture hall. The lovely symphony of pain and desperation lulling him to sleep.

The party departs from town in the morning, Sarcon expertly guiding them across the harsh lands south of the City. They arrive without incident, finding the old tower doc spoke of leaning at a startling angle, clearly in utter disrepair. The area is thick with brambles and undergrowth, with seemingly no foot path in or out. Nevertheless, before the party at the base of the tower stands a lone door, weathered wood braced with iron cross-bars. Luckily, it stands open.

"It looks as though we have arrived. How do you want to go about getting inside? Stealth? Boldly and with speed? I can cast a magic light on the inside to improve visual conditions, but we would lose any surprise we might have." Crystal unslings her bow, carrying it in her left hand, keeping her right hand free for spellcasting needs. She turns to her companions, awaiting the group consensus.

"This is supposed to house some kind of beasty right? so if we're lucky, any leftover traps are already sprung and we just need to mop up and collect the loot."
Sarcon draws his falchion while he's talking and begins attaching a weapon chord to it. When he finishes he looks at Crystal.
"I say light it up and lets get started."

Crystal nods at the half-orc's words, agreeing. Her brow has a slight crease, lovely features gaining a focused look as she steels herself to battle what might be inside. Still, she holds her spell, waiting for more confirmation before announcing their presence.

Victor Von Ravenport staggers out of the undergrowth, red-faced, rasping and struggling to recuperate his breath. His robe, once the very representation of well-cared meticulousness, is now encrusted with mud, water and less delicate liquids. “Never,” He pauses to cough up a mouthful of spit, salvia and gob; “Never again. I am getting a horse for the next expedition.” He tosses the primitive walking stick he was supporting himself on away and leans against Sarcon. “I hope you don't mind helping an old man out, laddie?”

"Vessels, temporary distractions and hinderances. Only destruction and rebirth remains as the permanent solution to the ailments of this twisted world."

He turns towards Crystal, still too winded to reply properly. Instead he merely replies with a nod and gestures frivolously towards the open door.

The Doc, now in light adventuring clothes and a wide brimmed hat stops and ponders a moment. What kind of monster could it be? Would it really set off all the traps? Well i guess that would depend on how smart it was. Still, prudence was a virtue

The Doc takes a cursory look around the tower from his point at a distance. Trying tovsee any signs of the monster or possibly other entrances.
Doc then takes out a sunrod and hands it to Sarcon.
Here. As a backup. I imagine you will take point? I would prefer to be somewhere in the middle, so i can quickly reach those who need aid.

Doc has his Saw in his right hand, at the ready, leaving his left free for whatever he might need...

Crystal stoops down and picks up a small rock or thick stick. Calling upon divine aid, the item starts glowing as she tosses it into the maw of the tower, lighting up what is inside.

Hmmmmm...for now she remains near Sarcon, ready to call on her deity for aid or nock an arrow.


The doctor is able to tell that the tower stands in front of him.
There's nothing else to see here. No evident danger or the like.

Sarcon puts the sun rod in his bag and pulls an ioun torch from his pocket and activates it.
"And away we go."
Sarcon heads for the entrance, a smile growing wider as he sets foot in the tower.

Victor quickly toddles after Sarcon, grasping a small pebble from the road as they head inside. With a quiet arcane incantation, the pebble springs with color and life. Illuminating the room around him.

"What do you see, Sarcon?"

Ravenport narrows his own miserable old eyes together but they are currently still adjusting to the new light level and he is unable to make anything out.

Crystal follows directly behind Sarcon, glad to have the meat shield between her and possible danger. As they step inside the tower, she scans the immediate vicinity for danger.

As the party sets foot inside, they see scattered straw and rotting woodworks, probably old benches and weapon racks. There are also several broken and rusted swords, daggers, and other implements of war scattered about. However, with ivy snaking up the cracked stone walls and flowers blooming in spots of sun, the 30ft-wide chamber looks far removed from any signs of battle. The tower appears to be one single chamber for most of the height of it, a broad circle with an iron spiral staircase leading upward on the inside.

Knowledge Engineering DC 12:
This appears to be an old guard tower, though it clearly outlasted whatever farm or settlement it once protected by probably a few hundred years.
Knowledge Engineering DC 15:
Though it leans several degrees and sags in places, the tower does not appear to be at risk of collapse.

Just to be sure. Crystal calls upon her deity once again, scanning the tower for traces of magic.
