"We are explorers, but not pillagers. Union's Blade, there, and I, Silver Warden, are protectors of the people. We wear masks so the world does not know our true names."

Blood Eagle |
I'll go ahead and help out.
Diplomacy (+10 if he counts as being from Absalom): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 <I hate this character so much!!!! :P>
"Indeed. Even historians of a sort. I am called Blood Eagle, (the crier), and we are simply admiring the mysteries we are discovering here."
GM Gwenn |
guess we didn't improve his attitude via the Diplomacy check?
You did. He's actually back to neutral again. That doesn't mean he's not cranky about that scare you gave him.
The gillman raises an eyebrow at this. After pondering Blood Eagle's words he says, "If you are historians, then decipher the mystery before you." He motions at the city diorama in at the edge of the pond.
The Lightning Agent |
Diplomacy Aid Another: 1d20 ⇒ 4
The Lightning Agent comes back to the cavern. He walks up and starts touching the miniature structure. What is this?
Yea my diplomacy is horrible also.
GM Gwenn |
Rising up from the pool is a column of rock with steeply sloped sides and a flat top, as if someone had sawn off the top of a massive stalagmite. A miniature city carved from this same stone occupies nearly the entire surface. Tiny trinkets such as ancient coins, polished semiprecious stones, and ornately braided loops of string are scattered throughout the diorama, and pale cave frogs clamber atop it. The smooth cavern floor is covered in gravel and pebbles along the edge of the pool, and several foot-long centipedes prowl among the gravel in their search for prey.
Blood Eagle |
I'll take out a coin to add to the collection, dropping in a GP.
Based on my rolls earlier, I basically know or found nothing. Well, besides my fondness for the chaps on my Parade Armor.
The Wasp |
We are utterly ridiculous when we try to be diplomatic...
"The Fisherman is depicted hauling in an enormous catch of small fish to take back to Absalom, illustrating Aroden’s declaration that a great host of creatures could accomplish a great task, whether that be taming the wilds or feeding a nation. "
The Wasp looks for some little fish to haul to the diorama.
Orlesk Hrathsyn |
Finally catching his breath after chasing Blood Eagle, "O" starts to speak to the man in the water. "I am so sorry about that. I just met these people, and don't understand why they scared you, or each other. I sincerely apologize."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Silver Warden |
ha ha. I wanted to say that too. "I'm only barely associated with them..."

The Union's Blade |
Union peers at the city, curiosity taking over.
I wonder what city this is...

As he inspects it, he muses
Do you believe the carvings we found earlier have anything to with this model?
Silver Warden |
"I bet they do."

GM Gwenn |
The Gillman nods at Orlesk and leaves the Pathfinders to their task.
On the other hand, the merchants in the carving were trading coins back and forth. There are some coins in the city diorama that you could trade out.
Secondly, the merchants in one of the other carvings were trading coins back and forth. There are some coins in the city diorama that you could swap out.
Lastly, there are small semi-precious stones in the representation of the city that remind you of the thief carving you were able to suss out earlier. In the carving the thief was stealing one of the gemstones. Sleight of hand check
Oh, and the Wasp just mentioned something about fishing. Who knows? All you can think of is barbarian magic users in chaps. It's quite distracting.
Try a craft check to make something out of clay, stones, and fish bones; a sleight of hand check to steal something from the diorama; or a maybe an unarmed attack roll to grab a fish from the water. You could just daydream about chaps, but that's unlikely to help the current situation.
The Union's Blade |
Union's Blade thinks back on his memories of the teaching of Aroden, and more specifically, the Thief. He looks down at the gems, and as his friends are all looking at their own trials, he attempts to palm one of the stones.
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

GM Gwenn |
The second one.
The Wasp reaches into the water to grab a fish, but the fish darts away quickly. On a second attempt, he reaches in and deftly snatches a fish in his hands. It wriggles as he carries it wading in the pond and drops it in the city causing another pulse of holy light pass through you all.
This grants to everyone a +2 insight bonus on a single combat maneuver check made over the next 24 hours.
The Lightning Agent |
It seems that there are some stones, clay and fishbones here to craft something with. Perhaps that will assist with the Craftsman picture.
I do not have any ranks in a craft. Perhaps someone else does?

The Gillman nods at Orlesk and leaves the Pathfinders to their task.

Grabbing a few of the pebbles around the room, spending a bit of time to gather just the right ones, looking at both general shape, coloration, and size, I'll make my way over to the diorama, I'll first study it for a few moments, trying to find the exact spot, though it's obviously rather outdated. From there, I'll pull out a little bit of lent, and other small trinkets from my pocket and begin to construct something, adding to the diorama a small detail.
Craft (any) + Guidance: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
"Ah, there, that's better." stepping aside to reveal a tiny little house, the lent a small smoke stack coming from the roof, a tiny door, etc. . .
Obviously there is one more thing on the long, long list of things he is not good at. It looks a bit ridiculous.
Orlesk Hrathsyn |
Going about the cavern, Orlesk gathers quite a bit of stones and clay. Quickly, the man starts to build a small shrine to the man god Aroden. After a couple minutes, and tedious work, "O" steps back and smiles at his creation.
"I hope this is sufficient."
Craft: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
GM Gwenn |
Orlesk begins to quickly and expertly build a shrine to Aroden. He uses all of his religious knowledge and inspiration from the carvings in the room. Just before he's about to add the finishing touch of this masterpiece of religious study and craftsmanship Blood Eagle says, "Done."
The other zealot has a lopsided little cabin made of clay, stones, and pocket lint. Another pulse of holy radiance blesses the party and promptly knocks over the miniature house.

This grants everyone a +1 competence bonus on Perception checks to find hidden doors and concealed objects for the next 24 hours.
Blood Eagle |
Having a strange idea, Blood Eagle decided to give something a shot. "I'll be right back."
Walking back over to the cave he was just in a moment ago, I'm going to see if maybe my costume is put on wrong. Refocus the mind a bit, polish the armor, and the like, before coming back to the party.
"Alright. Lets see if this works any better. I wonder if there are any other magic rituals around here to check out. And we should really record these."

Forgot to come back to something.
After a moment of people working on their own things, Union's Blade feels a blessing emanate from the small gemstone that he removed from the city. Although his act was seen, he apparently had gotten away with it as no one tried to stop him from committing the theft.
A final pulse of holy radiance bursts forth from the small stone.
Even though people saw it, no one commented or tried to make him put it back. That counts as a success.
This grants everyone a +1 circumstance bonus to AC against a single attack made while you benefit from cover within the next 24 hours.
The gillman claps his hands and says, "Apparently, you are historians and explorers. I apologize for the sleight. The masks are still odd, though." He walks forward and explains, "While my people are not worshipers of Aroden, this place is still sacred to gillmen for various reasons and we make pilgrimages to this place. However, the magics that keep it pure are beginning to fade and those that would harvest its powers or hidden treasures for their own purposes are beginning to make their way in."
The Union's Blade |
Union steps forward.
Beginning to fade? Perhaps it has to do with his death.... And what sorts do you mean that would come here to harvest its powers and its contents? A place like this must be preserved for its uniqueness and its troves of history and knowledge! It is our duty to protect it!
Silver Warden |
Silver Warden studies Union's Blade for a moment. He turns to the Gillman. "We would be happy to protect your holy site from its new encroachers. I apologize that we have interrupted your ritual."

Orlesk Hrathsyn |
"Thus making it our duty to keep this holy place safe! Nay, for if we don't, future generation wouldn't see or feel the goodness of this shrine!" exclaims "O" as he thrusts out his chest, hoping that his cape would flutter behind him.

Silver Warden looks at the others. "Let's be off."

Going down the east tunnel, you begin to smell death. The tunnel makes a sharp left turn at the end. As you come around the corner, you see four creatures made of bone standing above a dead figure on the floor. At the sight of you, they begin to walk forward.
These are undead skeletons. Disturbingly, it looks like these might have been made from gillmen. Slashing and piercing weapons aren't going to do much against them, but bludgeoning might work.
Cold magic doesn't work well on skeletons. While people might say they feel the cold all the way to their bones, come to find out that your skeleton doesn't really care if its cold.
