I'm thinking through purchases Anarya would like to make now. I'm great with feat builds and character progression but I never know what items to get, heh.

Glad everything is looking up Anarya!
Thanks for the legwork avelina. I'll peruse the list soon.
Ellena is good to take the bow. I don't have the strength to use it normally without penalty and would normally only use a bow outside of rage rounds
Karas Argentus |
I'll take the unclaimed ring of protection +1 from the loot . Nothing else is great for me so I'll look into purchasing from the gold figure avelina provided

As far as selling the poisons and drugs, since I don't imagine any of us are that keen on selling them to be used, perhaps we could sell them to temple healers who are looking to use them as materials for creating antidotes?
That is fine. The healers also might use it to help someone who is having a bad reaction to drug withdrawal, which is very possible given the usual supply sources will be unavailable.
Ellena Lovain |
You can add the scale mail I was wearing to the kitty as well.
Clebsch GM |
If we sell everything I've marked for sale, each of us (minus Raine) will get 2287.35 gp. We also currently have 6 unclaimed Cure Light Wounds potions, so I'm gonna say we just give one to each of us.
I couldn't find any pricing data for Waters of the Whispering River (one of the drugs/poisons), since it's apparently from a module.
Based on the effects, I'll say each dose is worth 500 gp. Poisons with a similar effect but a higher save DC sell for 2000 to 5000. The lower DC makes this less expensive, but still pretty lethal. The leadership is probably not too keen on using poisons, but they'll buy them just to keep them out of the hands of the enemy and with an eye toward situations where their use might be justified.
I don't think poison use ought to be viewed as intrinsically evil, any more than any other weapon or spell that causes harm. Poisons are evil when used to assassinate good people and similarly evil ends. But if used on demons or other evil enemies, they don't represent any significant moral concern, except perhaps to certain paladins who might view it as dishonorable to use poisons rather than relying purely on ones own strength and skill at arms.

Ellena and I both can use the wand of ghostbane dirge but she's much less likely to want to pull it out in combat. I'll take that one.
The scroll of eagle's splendor would do the most for either me or Avelina. My strongest spells are save-reliant, so an additional +4 cha could make or break a fight. I'll call dibs if Avelina doesn't want to fight me on it.
Scroll of consecrate is also only on my list, so I'll take that one. I'll take the wand of glyph of warding for the same reason.

Let me add my emotional and moral support to Anarya regarding the issues mentioned with the 'rents. And add my wishes of good luck to Avelina on finding a good place in SF. [Go Giants!]
As for selecting items, I had to go through the process of finding over 500k worth of equipment for an 18th level character I'm submitting for a high level game recruitment.
Since Anarya wears armor, I would consider a +1 enhancement to her armor first off.
After that, since she doesn't use weapons, I would recommend a Cloak of Resistance.
Speaking of the Cloak of Resistance, the GM who set the build requirements for the 18th level adventure PBP said he did not think it fair that the only way to get the highly useful benefits of across the board bonuses to saves was the cloak of resistance, thereby making the shoulder slot pretty much taken. His solution was to grant everyone a +5 bonus as a character bonus, but I would prefer to just say that if you want the effects of the Cloak of Resistance, but you want the shoulders slot available for something else, you can find an item that uses a different slot for cloak of resistance effect for the same cost.
After taking obvious things like that, I found it helpful to go to the page on wondrous items and work through the different slots, considering only items that one can afford. I found a number of useful items that way that I would not have known about otherwise.

Okay, thank you for the advice! It would be great to get a non-cloak for the resistance bonus - there really are a lot of awesome cloaks out there. I'll probably go for a ring to free up the cloak slot.

I just remembered seeing Clebsch's character in a PFS game use a battle aspergillum and I thought that was super appropriate for Anarya. I think she's gonna pick up one of those, since it won't be that pricey, even though she doesn't often use weapons.
...I keep noticing cool little upgrades I could apply to it. I think I might make it a consecrated weapon, which would allow me (or someone else I gave it to) to do a half-power Channel Smite through it. That way, even if Anarya isn't a devastating melee threat, with the right preparation she could land a serious blow on a demon or undead, and it's not gonna cost me much.
Purchases list (2,717 gp total):

If nothing else is claimed that is marked for sale, then the adjusted number we will each receive is 2547.35 g. If we keep the wand of ghostbane dirge, that number goes down to 1419.35 gp
I personally think we would be better off selling the wand of ghostbane dirge. Undead tend to have good will saves, and a wand DC is going to be pitiful. After all my time playing PFS and playing through all of Mummy's Mask, I have seen it work ONCE when an allip rolled a nat 1. Combine all that with the action economy of having to draw a wand, and I'm definitely against it. We'd be better off selling it and buying ghost salt for our archer.
I have no particular attachment to the scroll of Eagle's Splendor. I'll be able to cast it myself next level (it's a bloodline spell), so I'm fine with Anarya taking it

Avelina doesn't really have much to purchase at the moment other than scrolls. I'm just going to make purchases based on the lower loot estimate and save the excess if we end up selling the ghostbane dirge wand
Rolls to See if Available (75% chance)
Low is always bad for me and high is always good for me on percentage rolls
375 gp Contagious Zeal 1d100 ⇒ 19
375 gp Dispel Magic 1d100 ⇒ 30
375 gp Fireball 1d100 ⇒ 16
375 gp Haste 1d100 ⇒ 35
Dispel Magic + Haste = 750 gp
Masterwork Nexavaran Steel Crusader's Cross x 6 = 300 gp (Avelina will explain these in a gameplay post)
Oil of Bless Weapon x2 = 100 gp
Scroll of Monkey Fish x2 = 50 gp
Scroll of Comprehend Languages x2 = 50 gp
Scroll of Obscurring Mist x1 = 25 gp
Scroll of Faerie Fire x1 = 25 gp
Antiplague x1 = 50 gp
Antitoxin x1 = 50 gp
Backup Spell Component Pouch = 5 gp
Sell Light Mace = gain 2.5 gp
Total = 1400 gp

Also, Elena has plenty of gold as I've really not bought anything, just found groovy items for a paladin. There is no real reason for me to be holding close to 4K in gold, if the rest of you really want something. I'm just saving up for a strength belt, but I know we will find plenty of gold between now and then.
If you need gold, let me know. It's yours.

I agree. Sell the ghostbane dirge wand.

Also go ahead and sell the Ranseur of the Gargoyle. I don't get any real use from it and we'd be better off with the gold.
I will also sell my +1 Scale if I can find +1 Agile Breastplate
+1 Agile Breastplate 1700gp Low is bad: 1d100 ⇒ 26
Just makes it. So Swapping +1 scale for Agile Breastplate +1.
+1 scale mail sells for 675gp

Wait a second. I just remembered there's new armor options in Adventurer's Armory 2. Let me go find my copy of that and see if I want to try something unorthodox with Anarya's armor slot... Edit: Looks like nothing in there is particularly good for her. Ah well. Though I am considering bumping her back up to medium armor. I just like the 30 ft movement speed from having light armor.

Alrighty! Selling the wand and the ranseur brings up our total per person to 3409.35 gp
Additional Purchases

It's too pricy now, but soon you can get medium armor made of mithral, which behaves as light armor and is half the weight. It adds 4000 to the cost of medium armor.

Yes indeed. I merely took the old one and imported it back into google docs and then added on the new items. It still has all the old information.

Good idea, I wasn't thinking of mithral. That definitely seems like a good investment once I can get the cash.

DM, as a +2 Strength belt costs 4000 gold, my assumption is it would not be available in this war torn town. Does that sound correct?
Avelina of House Galfrey |
I'm just holding it. If you need it more, it's yours. You probably will need consumable access more than me, and I can get my own later.
You can keep the ice spears wand if you want, too. We are at the levels of low spell slots for wizards, after all. Tauni is more into conjuration anyways, so it makes more sense in-character anyways.

I just did a straight 5-way split without deducting portions for individuals taking items. We have been playing long enough that I trust everyone to be fair about item allocation, and it's easier to manage on my end. I can calculate averages and do basic arithmetic, but I'm just a humble English major who never had to do much else in excel. I'm sorry :(
I just trusted Franti to do it before without paying much attention to how it worked, so I did the best I could.

DM, as a +2 Strength belt costs 4000 gold, my assumption is it would not be available in this war torn town. Does that sound correct?
Right. Using the system for settlements and cities found in Ultimate Campaign (I think) they have a lower and a higher price limit so that whatever is below the lower limit is assumed to be available, while whatever is between the two has a 75% chance. Usually, there is some short list of more expensive items that are available or an indication of how many minor and major items might be available, letting the GM roll those randomly or determine them as desired.
But in this case, the city is occupied and so there is no list of more expensive items. A belt for +2 strength would probably be snapped up and used by its finder or allocated to higher levels if the item is turned in to the crusaders.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about any of that just now. ;)
A brief OOC note on Avelina and Raine: Avelina's player and I are okay with them having some friction, but that doesn't mean it's fun for anyone else. So if it gets to be annoying for anyone else, just let me know!
In a long campaign like this, it's good to have some low level conflicts and comic relief, since they can show how relationships develop and grow with time and shared experiences.
Franti provided much of the comic relief up to this point, so it seems an appropriate way to replace that while Franti is away.
I have been in games where I suspected some of the players were using in character rants as a kind of passive aggressive way of complaining about things they did not like about how some players were running their characters and that kind of thing bothers me, but so far I don't have any problems with the friction.
Clebsch GM |
Regarding the spreadsheet, I don't have much time now, but starting around line 79 the value column begins being filled with a number followed by letters, like "gp". I would replace those fields with just the number. It affects how things that add columns of numbers in a spreadsheet function. Later I'll double check some things.
I've done a lot with spreadsheets, so I might be able to make a few improvements.

I should have Tauni's gear finished tomorrow. I am thinking most of it will be saved to go toward a headband when we can acquire one. I will be getting inks to scribe spells from the two spellbooks she's found along the way; she'll only be doing first and second level spells, so she doesn't have to roll to see if the ink is available.

I'd like to get at least one more gameplay post up before we move on but I'm so exhausted tonight I don't think I have the energy to roleplay properly, haha. I am going to purchase another few items though while I am still conscious.
Ah well.
Any night when Anarya has enough uses of channel energy remaining when going to bed, she will spend one charging her consecrated weapon and one charging her vestments. If she only has one, she will prioritize the weapon if she expects combat the next day. That way, she will awake in the morning with the items available for use, and the channel energy daily uses refreshed.
Clebsch GM |
There is no deadline by which Irabeth needs to start this operation, so there should be plenty of time to charge up your items. No problem on posting. I'm near the end of my energy supply myself, so I'll probably not post much until Friday. This is the end of my term, so I'll be a little busy with grading and students needing last minute help, but should have time to get the operation rolling sometime over the weekend. Next week my schedule settles down a bit with work every morning, with evenings open.

Reading over the last part, I should warn you advancement is going to be rapid over the next section. You will level up once you've dealt with the majority of the challenges in the Gray Garrison. The book has that potentially taking several waves of assault, but I don't want it to stretch out that much, so barring unusual outcomes, you should be leveling up before too much longer (to 5th).
The events at the very end of the book will lead to your first Mythic Level and that will also include another regular level up (to 6th) by the start of the 2nd Book. So consider your options and enjoy the next part of the thrilling adventure that is ... [cue theme music] The Wrath of the Righteous.

Which 3rd level spells are you planning on picking up? Knowing what you are picking up will help me decide on what I go with. I'm probably going to delay my first evangelist level until after level 6 sorc, so I can get at least one 3rd level spell going before the dead level. I'm trying to focus on blasting and buffing spells, so Fireball, Contagious Zeal, and Haste are my top contenders at the moment.
