Thanks for refreshing my memory. I am starting to look at what Tauni should get in the way of scrolls and wands. If Ellena is the only one I can reasonable target with enlarge person, then it probably doesn't warrant a wand, just a scroll or two.

The pitch-black descent into darkness over what seems to be a bottomless pit, carried by a man standing on a cloud, however... THAT was terrifying!

A new teaching term starts today, so I'll try for an update later today. If Tauni doesn't post anything about her action, I'll assume she will climb and make her rolls for her.

Thanks for the clarification on the Heroic Echo. If I had been editing the rule, I would have stated the part about sharing the effect first, and then added what changes at 9th level. My misunderstanding stemmed from the fact that the previous sentence stated, "At 9th level," and I interpreted all the text that followed as applying to that level.

As Anarya said, I misread the map. For some reason, I thought the pit pictured on the map was the shaft we were descending in.

Avelina can take the five foot step and avoid the pit for now. Since ropes usually come in 50' lengths and the shaft is 100 feet deep, the ropes don't quite reach the floor, since there are some knots in them for grip.

I'm sorry for the delay posting. My home internet was (and is) down. I am back at work for the week, so posting should be normal now, and home internet should be up again before next weekend.

Tauni cast see invisible back here. Has it been more than 40 minutes since then? If so, I'll probably go the hero point route to bring it back up.

Since there is not strict accounting for time, I'm going to make some random rolls to see how many minutes were spent searching various rooms. We'll start with the advice that taking 20 implies the most thorough option typically taking 2 minutes. Some cases might take more or less depending on the size of the room, so I'll assume a 1d4 minutes to search each room. There is also time to descend the stairs (assume 1 minute for the 2nd floor to basement and 2d4 minutes down to the lower area.

Search 6 rooms: time: 6d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2) = 10 minutes
2nd floor to basement: 1 minute
Search 6 rooms: time: 6d4 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 2, 4, 2) = 13 minutes
Descend to lower area: time: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 minutes
Search upper level of caves: time: 6d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 2, 2, 4) = 19 minutes

So the 40 minutes would have expired after the first fight in the upper cave area but before you finished searching those rooms.

I wouldn't use a hero point for trying to extend that duration, especially since the point to do that would have been at the point the spell was about to expire and you would not be in potential need of it until getting into the fight in the lower level.

I was actually thinking about using a hero point to cast it again, using a standard action. Right now the only spells Tauni has memorized are Web and cantrips, so she'd need the hero point to recall the spell.

My teaching schedule is changing again at the end of this week and this time I have an extra class which will mean an extra 10 hours out of my schedule, so posting time will be less frequent. I'll try to keep things moving as best I can but it might be a bit slow in the middle of the work week.

I'm also going to have some extra prep time needed this week to be ready for it.

I don't think the frightened condition would make a character climb out onto a rope dangling over a pit, especially if said character is unable to effectively climb. Would a scared person really seek out more danger and willingly subject herself to it when frightened of an enemy? I think it's a leap of logic too far to suggest the frightened condition is intended to influence characters to subject themselves to greater danger.

In any case, if a frightened creature can use spells to escape, Anarya would use the levitate spell and start ascending on a cloud long before she'd attempt a climb she already used magical aid to avoid just a few minutes ago. If retconning past events would cause too many problems, c'est la vie, but if you do decide to retcon it, her action would be as follows:

Move to the far side of the pit, look around her for a way out, spot the hole in the ceiling, and cast levitate from the scale, intending to use her move action on her next turn to start ascending.

I don't want to spoil the suspense, but it's been two weeks since Anarya's last post and her player is probably slammed. Let's assume Anarya uses what resources she has left (looks like 1 channel, 2 LOH, 3 CLW, 1 CMW) after you use what potions you've found (3 CLW, 1 CMW) to heal up. There is no more fighting, just exploring and a few surprises (good ones) in the remaining parts of this underground chamber.

I will be away from computers after Wednesday until Saturday night. So I would encourage those who can to role play moving on to discover what is beyond that door. It would be good to get this AP back on track.

It's also been a couple of months since any word from Franti/Goldstool Shroomshine. How do people feel about what we should do if the player is going to be out indefinitely? My inclination would be to first make the spot available to the players in the Roland Aristocrat Campaign and any good players you might know of before going to general recruitment.
