They say Franti is most beautiful: "Hmph. Clearly, they do not have the proper appreciation of beauty. Iomedae Herself thinks I'm most beautiful, and Her standards are all that matter."

They say Karas is most beautiful: "Ugh. They must have a thing for beefcakes."

They say Anarya is most beautiful: "I mean, the demure shrinking violet certainly has an appeal, but they probably only find her attractive because she's so unthreatening."

The phrase, "The beautiful die first," is part of a longer aphorism that continues, "Their loss wreaks havoc in the hearts of those who love." Rovagug is all about destruction.

“Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty only because there is ugliness. All can know good as good only because there is evil.”

DM, looks like with the difficult terrain, it would take me a double move to close with the little critter. Does that look right to you?

You can get to the square with Librarian 3 in 20'.

Reminder to everyone: Tiny creatures do not threaten the squares around them, so you can move through the squares surrounding it without provoking AOOs.

Added new loot to party loot sheet. If anyone wants any of Chaleb's mundane things, feel free to take them.

Just to clarify, as I want to make sure of something. The scroll given was for Dimensional Lock, the 8th Level spell? Just want to make certain it was supposed to be that and not Dimensional Anchor.

Dimensional Lock is the scroll specified in the AP. I expect there will be a use for it and a way for someone to use it, either through an NPC or UMD rolls. Or it could be sold for something else. Your call.

Agreed we should keep the scroll. I think it might be more useful to ensure enemies don't escape rather than arrive.

If an important demon wants to escape a fight, it's pretty easy for it to Teleport out, relay our positions to its friends, inform them of our abilities. If we locate an essential target of the demon army, we might want to lock it on place and make sure we take it out.

I am always glad to keep arcane scrolls until I can add them to my spellbook.

Map of the Marchlands | Wintersun Hall

I doubt it will be important in the short term, but someone probably should invest in Use Magic Device skill to be able to cast the scroll. High Charisma helps. Since the DC to cast a spell from a scroll is 20 + caster level, that would require a result of 28, so it may be a number of levels before that is possible.

If it's on your spell list, you just need to make a caster level check, not a UMD check.

Either way, Avelina is buffing her UMD as much as possible.

And the caster level of an 8th-level scroll is 15, not 8. So UMD would be even harder if a non-spellcaster tried to use it.

Sorry if it wasn't clear. When we are at the top of a new round, I usually don't bold anything, since it would show everyone bold. I can adjust that if it will be less confusing.

I will be away from the boards for a couple of days (Friday-Sunday morning).

Map of the Marchlands | Wintersun Hall

I'll update the Gameplay thread later but If Avelina wants to take a different action this round she can because she learned last round that the swarm cannot take critical damage and it takes half damage from attacks that are not bludgeoning. The undead aspect imposes additional damage reduction, so normal weapon attacks will be less effective.

Contratulations, Anarya! Hope it's a good job, or at least good enough for now.

Franti: I moved Frani's icon back. Sorry.

Just a quick formatting question. When speaking in sign language, should I be using italics, italics and bold (like in my last post), bold like regular speech or spoilers since it is a language not everyone knows? Should I handle it differently in and out of combat? Should I always assume that I am able to get Anarya's attention to see that I'm signing to her? I haven't done PbP with a deaf character before, so I want to make sure I'm conforming to any practice that might have been established. :)

Map of the Marchlands | Wintersun Hall

I think everyone is pretty good at roleplaying appropriately if you just treat it like regular speech. For example, Anarya did not act on the information that Avelina gave the first time because her player recognized that she would not have understood. I think everyone is doing the same thing when sign language is involved. I think since people using sign language in the presence of others who don't sign usually provide a verbal translation as they sign, it's not necessary to make any special font when speaking this way.

You could use bold italicized text when you sign but do not also speak. The only time it might need to be under a spoiler is if you are trying to convey a message to Anarya that you don't want others to comprehend.

I usually reserve non-bold italics without quote marks to indicate mental speaking or thinking.

If others have a preference, I'm fine with whatever the players can agree on.

Hey, I was looking through Magic Tactics Toolbox, and I found quite a lovely new rules option for sorcerers and bloodragers that I wanted to run by you, GM, to make sure it's okay (as well as to bring it to the attention of Karas, who can also use them).

I would most likely just take them instead of my bloodline feats, since I find them underwhelming for Avelina. Since the info from the book is not up online anywhere yet, I copy-pasted it here for you to look over

Bloodline Mutations:

Although heirs to similar arcane bloodlines may share commonalities, the unique circumstances in which a bloodline enters a bloodrager or sorcerer’s lineage can result in the manifestation of particularly strange or unusual bloodline powers known as mutations. Whenever a bloodrager or a sorcerer gains a new bloodline power, she can swap her bloodline power for a bloodline mutation whose prerequisites she meets. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed, and a bloodrager or sorcerer cannot swap a bloodline power that she has altered or replaced with an archetype for a bloodline mutation. A bloodrager need not be in a bloodrage to use her bloodline mutation powers. Alternatively, a bloodrager or sorcerer can select a bloodline mutation in place of a bloodline bonus feat, provided her class level is at least equal to the level of the bloodline ability the mutation normally replaces.

Blood Havoc: Whenever you cast a bloodrager or sorcerer spell that deals damage, add 1 point of damage per die rolled. This benefit applies only to damaging spells that belong to schools you have selected with Spell Focus or that are bloodline spells for your bloodline. This ability replaces the sorcerer’s 1st-level bloodline power or the bloodrager’s 4th-level bloodline power.

Blood Intensity: Whenever you cast a bloodrager or sorcerer spell that deals damage, you can increase its maximum number of damage dice by an amount equal to your Strength or Charisma modifier, whichever is higher. This otherwise functions as— and does not stack with—the Intensified SpellUM feat. You can use this ability once per day at 3rd level and one additional time per day for every 4 caster levels you have beyond 3rd, up to five times per day at 19th level. This ability replaces the sorcerer’s 3rd-level bloodline power or the bloodrager’s 8th-level bloodline power.

Blood Piercing: When you cast a bloodrager or sorcerer spell that deals damage, creatures affected by the spell reduce their energy resistance and spell resistance against the spell’s effects by an amount equal to your Strength or Charisma modifier, whichever is higher. You can use this ability once per day at 4th level and one additional time per day for every 5 caster levels you have beyond 3rd, up to four times per day at 18th level. This ability replaces the sorcerer’s 9th level bloodline power or the bloodrager’s 4th-level bloodline power.

I lost power from the same weather but it's been restored now. That was one heck of a storm. Tore down all the plants my apartment complex had hanging from the covered areas near the rental office, knocked down a tree, and absolutely drenched a completely covered, sheltered breezeway between buildings.

Map of the Marchlands | Wintersun Hall

I was driving for home, trying to beat the storm, but I got caught in it for the last mile. I was seriously concerned I was in trouble as the wind was blowing rain and leaves completely horizontally and I could hardly see five feet in front of the car (it was at night). Had to dodge around a fallen tree limb in the road and as I was a few blocks from home, I saw the flash and heard to boom of an exploding transformer. Heard the weatherman say the winds averaged 70 mph. I looked at the radar (on my phone since power was out when I got home) and it had the bow-shaped look of a Derecho storm.

Power was back for us yesterday, so we are doing okay today.

Is it possible to have the locations we are to go to, as well as this woman's home location put on the map? If her home is really far out of the way, we might need to think things over a bit.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Map of the Marchlands | Wintersun Hall

Her home is in the general area, so it's not an issue to get her home and move on.

Locations you may want to make for are now marked on the city map. It takes about 10 minutes to go 750 feet, but the whole city is only about 3000 feet from east to west and 5000 feet (about a mile) north to south, so there is no real time problem getting around. The main factor is that as you move, you will encounter dangers. You may run out of magical resources before you run out of daylight but you should have plenty of time to move about otherwise.

Thanks DM, that makes things really clear. I think it's easiest to just take them in the alphabetical order as marked. That seems the quickest and most prudent way to hit all of our marks, so to speak. Getting Gwerm home next seems the way to go at least to me.
